We flew into Detroit and our driver said we have to swing by this place for lunch on our way up north. This is the type of place you go for value and total mid-west comfort food. The plates are overflowing with turkey, biscuits, corn, and mashed potatoes with gravy. We looked at other plates in the restaurant and made a list of things to get next time we are in town. The service was prompt and we were back on the road in no time. We had to observe the etiquette though, didn't know if we paid the waitress or on our way out. No thrills at Turkey Roost, except great food. I love this restaurant. Their speciality is obviously Turkey. I usually get the all white turkey plate, which comes with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, a vegetable, gravy, role and cranberry sauce. The prices are very reasonable and the service is amazing. We never have to wait longer than 15 minutes from when we sit down to having food on the table. Turkey Roost gets busier in the summer months when people are traveling up north. I understand with the virus going on and everything is crazy, but we went to do a curbside at turkey roost and the parking lot was full for curbside! I mean did not know where to go to park to place an order and then sat there for 20min and still did not get order placed so we left, there was no organization at all on what we could see, needs to be more organized when something like this happens, another lady in a car said they have been there for 35min and still did not get their order taken. The Turkey Roost is almost tradition if you're traveling north. It's local, not part of a chain and it's a throw back to earlier times. The menu is basic with not much variation. As you would expect, their specialty is Turkey. However, since I was there on Friday I opted for the Friday special, fried fish. The perch dinner was as I remembered it. Three pieces of breaded, fried perch, french fries, and a roll. While it isn't the best tasting fish dinner I ever had it was good and brought back fond memories. read more

I have been stopping into Turkey Roost since the mid 60's. My parents would stop on our way down to Grandmas house. It was always a treat. I still continue my parents tradition I just stop anytime I'm driving through. My favorite is the delicious homemade soups and strawberry shortcake. The Friday perch dinner is wonderful. The breakfast are simple but whose complaining when they serve homemade bread. If you get their early you can get your Turkey club on homemade bread. Did I mention the service? Well it's wonderful. Faster then most fast food places but a heck of a lot better food. All the wait staff work together to fill your orders and your coffee. You never hear, " that's not my table!" So if you haven't tried it, that's your loss. No complaints from me, just no I'll be parking in your spot. read more

Not too bad. This place has definitely been here for awhile. It looks a bit outdated but has a sort of charm. You can't miss this place. It is like feminine product pink. I'm not huge on turkey dinners unless it is homemade on Thanksgiving but it wasn't bad. Pretty decent tasting. I can't believe how quickly our food arrived. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Remember the movie, Forest Gump? Remember how in one part Forest kept naming off shrimp dishes? Honestly, it's just completely perfect road food. One of my favorite travel destinations, period. I was just there this past Sunday when my job actually had me travel to Birch Run, and since that's only 30 minutes south, I *had* to go. I love it here. I think that what they do here basically epitomizes the phrase "Do one thing, and do it well." Granted. They are turkey heroes to me, and as long as they keep the quality and service as high as it always is, they'll always be welcome to my hard-earned cash. To those who just *cannot* get over the fact that the potatoes are instant, I'm sorry: I am staunchly in the "Real Potatoes Only" camp, but this place is the exception that proves the rule. Yes, they're instant, but they're very, very good instant potatoes. Had I not asked them, I never would have really known. I eat them all, anyway. They're that good. The only minor complaint I might have is that sometimes the items on the plate (specifically the dressing and potatoes) might get a bit too soggy from the water the veggies have been cooked in, but that's about it. Turkey Plate is just a winner with me. Never had to send anything back for any reason. I've heard about how wonderful the desserts are, but I've never had room for them. Whatever time of day you're passing by, if they're open, and you're hungry, do yourself a favor and stop on by. Quick, delicious, friendly, clean, inexpensive. Win. read more

We got takeout turkey dinners, which come with pulled light and dark meat (diners can opt for either/ or, or smaller sized dinners), real mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, coleslaw, and biscuits. People who don't care for turkey can opt for roast beef, and fried fish or shrimp in Friday's. We were also happy to see the staff all masked. Good old Turkey Roost. Its pink presence is like a bear hug just waiting for you with open arms. I've been coming here since I can remember, and it always hits the spot. This is a plain Jane kind of place that serves up hearty plates (turkey, beef) of home cooking on the cheap. Hot biscuits are served with meals, and there's always jam and honey on the tables. We recently went for the Friday fish fry and got some fried cod / perch dinners that were served with big baked potato halves and coleslaw. Eat Here! Yummy turkey! Menu has a small array of turkey options and fish for Friday's. Chicken Pot Pie on Wednesday's only. We had an all white meat turkey plate (with a load of dressing covered in sliced turkey with a scoop of mashed potatoes covered in gravy, served with a side of coleslaw, cranberries, and canned green beans) for $8.50 and a hot turkey sandwich for $7. Next time we'll totally get the hot turkey on the amazing biscuit rather than the white bread. And of course a slice of pie which was finished before sharing and strawberry shortcake a la frickin' delicious! SAVE ROOM. We'll be back for both turkey and dessert. We had the 'under 2' with. The fastest service in town! Although the menu is basic and obviously revolves around turkey, they have other good choices. They are my favorite place to get breakfast. Seriously, great turkey and they've expanded since I was a kid, so not as much waiting for a table! The turkey dinner is served piping hot, in fact you may need to wait for it to cool down before you start, but that's okay because that gives you more time for the awesome, hot from the oven biscuits and honey on your table. My kids are not huge turkey fans (we're checking into the alien abduction theory) but there's plenty of other options inluding hot roast beef dinners, and the turkey noodle soup passed my older son's taste test - or heck they were stuffed on biscuits before our food came on one visit! We were very disappointed. We had heard about this from friends and thought will give a try. We both ordered Turkey and they give you plenty of food. It came with canned peas. Need I say more about that? The meat was tender but the gravy tasted like it was from a jar. I'm not sure the potatoes were fresh either. Service is so fast that the food must be prepared ahead of time and they just plate it. We have had turkey at Cracker Barrel better than this and that is a chain.
