Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing based on all the other reviews. Ok first things first, they are cash only. Not a big deal as they have an ATM, but FYI if you are traveling and stop here. Ok so for the food. I ordered the combo platter which had brisket, sausage, and pork loin. The brisket had zero bark to it and was cut super thin. The pork loin also was so so. The best meat on the plate was the sausage, which isn't a good sign. Also got some Mac-n-cheese and a side salad (you get two sides). Overall not worth the $23 price tag. For $23 I expect a large portion of meat. The BBQ sauce was decent, but great meat stands on its own. The service was great, even though it was busy. Perhaps if I find myself on the 395 between Bridgeport and the C.A.-89 connection I'll stop back, but otherwise this was a forgettable experience. read more

The people here are very friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and relaxing. I would return here if I were in the area. Why only a 3? I can enjoy a restaurant, but I still want to be impressed with the food. I ordered a platter with different kinds of meat and thought the meat was cooked perfectly, but then completely ruined by the sauce. Good meat has a great natural flavor that should be appreciated only with a dry rub or light sauce. The sauce flavor, however, was strong. Yes the sauce tastes good, but they should sell it to restaurants that don't cook their meat as well. I also don't think I got the $21 value that I paid for. I probably got $2-4 of meat had I bought it at the store and made it myself. That's a huge markup. The side salad was a very non event, but not a huge surprise there with most restaurants. read more

The place is super cute. We ordered a brisket sandwich and a couple of turkey plates with fries. The flavor was good but unfortunately everything was just soggy, meat and fries. I don't associate juicy with soggy but I guess everyone's taste is different. Also order artichoke rice and that was a big mistake. Could eat one bite. Was an awesome experience. We have passed this place a hundred times and never stopped and I now know we were missing out! We all ordered something different and even took another order of food to go. The brisket, fires, and macaroni and cheese were my personal favorite. You should not pass this place by. The people are nice, the service is great, and the food is very good. The outdoor seating is very pleasant. We all got sandwiches, which were delicious. The fries are fresh and taste like how you imagine they'd taste at In-n-Out if the chain could get them right. My kid and I agree the onion rings are also delicious. This place is so good! Highly recommended! I go here every time I'm in the area. It is family owned and you can tell they put their heart and soul into everything they do. Jeff the owner is one of the friendliest guys I've met and his hospitality and support of veterans is amazing. I've always ordered ribs from BBQ restaurants in the past (and their ribs are absolutely fantastic) but after trying the smoked sausage I think I have a new go-to. It is one of the most flavorful things I've ever eaten. My mouth is watering just typing this. The BBQ sauce that they put on everything is delicious and sweet and according to the owner a secret family recipe. Each time I go I buy a jar or two of the sauce to bring home with me. Walker is probably a town of less then 500 people. My buddy and I were heading back to Mammoth from visiting some spots to see the fall foliage. This is a tiny place way out of the beaten path and it most definitely needs a shout out in this Covid era. Perched high in the Sierras near Walker Lake this Barbeque restaurant has survived fire, flood, and road closures with rustic grace and charm of a different period. Currently the tables are under the trees making for a very relaxed feel. The Barbeque is tender juicy and just enough bite without the heavy sweet. I had a pulled pork sandwich that was very flavorful. My husband had the brisket plate which he throughly enjoyed. Again, very flavorful and tender. If you are passing near this area it is well worth it to stop, breathe the mountain air deeply relax and enjoy an excellent meal. And good company as the owner was a delight as well. read more

We had the chance to enjoy the BBQ of Mountain View at a privately catered event a few weeks ago (wedding rehearsal.) Driving up to the event, we could smell the smoker going, and knew that this BBQ had been prepared with care, and that the length of time this meal took to prepare was no joke. We knew well in advance that we were in for a special treat. We enjoyed St. Louis style ribs, smoked sausage, smoked turkey, and chopped brisket. Everything was fantastic. The smokey flavor was just enough without being overpowering (I don't like overly smoked food, and this was GREAT.) There was so much leftover food, that ribs and brisket were served along side pancakes for the mimosa brunch the day after the wedding. Let me tell you, it was EVEN BETTER the second time around. This is the best barbecue I've ever had! The owner came it to speak with us, and we even talked to the chef! We ordered the baby back ribs with spicy beans and coleslaw. Wow it was so delicious, the ribs had a really smokey flavor. My dad ordered Half chicken with potato salad and fries! He had nothing but great things to say about it. This BBQ was so disappointing. We were looking forward to it because it smelled so good and we LOVE BBQ, but the meat was terrible. We had a three item combo plate of brisket, pork, and sausage. Everything was very thinly sliced and smothered in BBQ sauce. The flavor was not good at all and the pricing is a bit high for the quality of food. I feel bad knocking this place, because the service was nice and it's a locally owned business, but this is honestly the grossest bbq I've ever had. We had the sampler platter, and all of it was bad. The meat was flavorless, overcooked, and slathered in sauce. The rice in the side dish of the artichoke rice was under cooked and crunchy. The fries were okay, if not a bit soggy. The sides came out lukewarm, and the meat came out cold. Now, I'm from Memphis, and my standards may be high, but there is really no excuse. This food was just plain bad. Very, very rarely in my life have I had a hard time eating the food that was brought out to me, but we both just quietly choked it down. Made a pit stop here before making our way to Mammoth Lakes. I was a little skeptical at first because it was basically in the middle of nowhere, but we decided to take a chance with this place. Maaaan, am I glad that we did! I have never tasted such delicious fries! That alone deserves the 5 stars. They were nice, thin, and crisp, as well as very well-seasoned. For entrees, we chose to try the bacon cheeseburgers, mushroom burger, bacon avocado burger, and a brisket sandwich. Usually, our group of ten NEVER shuts up. But once everyone took a bite of their burger, silence fell upon the room for a good half an hour as everyone savored their delicious sandwiches. The patty was cooked to a perfect medium, and a tasty pickle spear came with each sandwich. Even our pickiest eaters found the food to be stunning. Not only was the food delectable, the wait staff was super friendly and very attentive. They always made sure we had water and came by at least twice to make sure we were doing okay and that we were happy about the food. We made sure to give them a generous tip :) If you get a chance to visit this place, I would HIGHLY recommend it. They sure know their stuff! read more

We liked this place! We drove out from Gardnerville because we heard good things. I'm a vegetarian, and had a baked potato and side salad and I was full and happy. My boyfriend tried the pork loin, sausage and steak with rice and beans. He liked all of it. And it was cool that they had the pork loin on the kids menu too. The best part of this place is the décor and the service. The owner took our order and served us. He was friendly and accommodating. If you want to bring your dog, you can sit outside! This restaurant was a fantastic experience, even during COVID. The staff was friendly, attentive and our food was prompt. The food was amazing. We had the BBQ Brisket Sandwich, Grilled chicken sandwich and a Cheeseburger. The brisket was tender and so flavorful. The chicken breast is marinated so well, it was juicy and the bun was fluffy. The burger was fresh, with a BBQ flavor. The French fries were handcut with great seasoning. The home style Mac n cheese rocked! So delicious! They are cash only, but we plan for that on road trips. We had heard a lot of talk about this place so my expectations were maybe a little too high. We had the combo plate with brisket, sausage, and pork. They were all good, but nothing to rave about (also certainly not inedible as others have suggested), just ok. The sides however get a little higher marks, they have the standards like potato and macaroni salad, but they also have artichoke rice salad... I was intrigued... it's like a potato salad, in that it's served chilled, but the flavor was very different. Curry and indian spices, very good! They didn't have cornbread though and I thought that was law or something; if you own a BBQ place you MUST have cornbread. Another pleasant discovery... The Mammoth Double Nut (or something like that). I'm not a beer drinker (I'm not into bubbly drinks, don't know why, that's just the way it is) anyway, I may have finally found a beer I can drink! SO Good! Not too bubbly and it tastes like an iced coffee (seriously, I had to put in effort to stop myself from asking for cream and sugar for it). Anyway... Give this place a shot! Hidden Gem! While traveling, I'm always looking for a unique place for a meal - especially when on the road. I noticed this place on the way from Reno to Mammoth (who can't miss the smoker along the side of the road?), and thought that I wanted to stop by on my return trip. I was not disappointed. The chopped brisket was on special that day, and it was amazing. Best I've ever had. The corn was pretty good too, but the beans were lackluster (I'll try a different side next time).
