We ordered a Texas spud to go, and it was hearty. Two of us shared it. A baked potato with a lot of cheese and some cut up brisket. Not that great though considering it was $15. For a baked potato! It wasn't very busy on a Friday night. Waitress was nowhere to be found after we placed our order despite not many diners. The atmosphere was very somber, kinda depressing. We love BBQ and were surprised to find this place along the highway before heading over the 108. We both had the brisket sandwich which was delicious, moist, tender and not too smoky. We came to the Bridgeport area over labor day weekend to get some r&r. After arriving at around 8, we needed a place to eat. Our neighbors at the motel recommended this place so we gave it a try. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it came with fries. It was delicious and hit the spot. The portions were generous, the food tastes great, and the service was good. As an appetizer, we got the chicken wings - really good and full of flavor. Other people in our party got a variety of burgers I don't remember the names of, and also the ribs, which were juicy, tender, and seasoned to perfection. The food was ok tasting. I actually got a tummy ache all night and into the next morning after eating here which is very unusual for me. The thing that really bothered me was they gave me the wrong change. I was short changed by several dollars which made me feel really uncomfortable. If you like barbequed tough brisket and chewy pork loin meat the thickness of a baloney slice and paying too much for what you get then this place will meet your needs. The sauce poured over the meat destroyed the smoky flavor of the meat. They need to use a dry rub or perhaps serve the sauce on the side. The baked beans side dish were just like the ones that come in a can but they added a slice of jalapeno to them so they could call them their own. If this place was in a city it would be out of business. But when you are 50 miles from population centers and nothing else around you cannot be picky. Just eat it or remember to carry a baloney sandwich when passing through . Better yet go to Walker burger up the street they are great. read more

I had never been here before, but I read about it on ADVRider. So after riding around Calaveras county for a while, then making my way over Sonora Pass, I thought this would be a good place to stop and grab a bite to eat. I wasn't disappointed! I had the pulled pork, and it was great. The serving wasn't too big, and the price was about what I expected for a small town restaurant. Make sure you bring cash; they don't take plastic! I'll be stopping here again when I'm on the 395 corridor! read more

Not bad . We would have liked a drier BBQ sauce . The fries were good the artichoke rice was ok it has a mild curry flavor. A little unexpected . Not bad but our meal was not overly impressive . I wish I could say that eating here was worth the scenic drive down but unfortunately it wasn't. We first ordered the Texas toothpick appetizer. There was little to no flavor other then the dressing they give you to dip. We then ordered the sample platter...not impressed at all. The meats are flavorless...the ribs over cooked...and everything was cold. I also had an issue with the fact that I had a dog sitting at my feet scratching my leg begging for food. Don't get me wrong...I love dogs...I have two of my own at home...but I don't think dogs wandering around a restaurant while people are eating is appropriate. read more

My goodness, this is a tiny town that you drive through on Hwy 395 driving south from Lake Tahoe. I had read about the BBQ and the review was right on. We arrived at 11:30 am and I think w were the first customers of the day. We had the sliced brisket with an amazing sauce that we took leftovers home, it was so tasty. The owner is the nicest guy! He let us bring in our dog, which is amazing. The place was super clean, with a wood fire stove burning. The bathrooms were immaculate too. If all of that wasn't enough, the food was spectacular. We has the brisket, which was the best we every had, as well as potatoe skins. They were amazing as well. I stopped off on my way back from Tahoe and I'm so glad I did. There seems to be a mistake on yelp because I've had BBQ up and down the 395 including copper top who is supposed to be the best. Mountain view is superior by far. The meat is outstanding perfect smoke melt in your mouth goodness. The portion size is large the baby backs were fall off the bone. The sides were great. Stopped for a late lunch/early dinner on the way to Mammoth. OH WOW. I am so glad we spotted this place and took our chances. The draft beer was cold with a good selection. The menu had a nice variety of BBQ meats and sandwiches. We ordered onion rings to start. Fantastic. Nice and crisp and hot, and the onions didn't slide out. Three of us shared one of the sampler type meals. The ribs and brisket were some of the best I've ever had - better than anything I've ever had at the Sparks Rib Cook Off. The brisket was melt in your mouth. The sauce is tasty too. Seriously, I kid you not. The seating was comfortable with a rustic charm. We chatted with Jeff the owner. He is so friendly. I wish we'd stopped by for take-out on the way home. Don't pass this place up. It is well worth the stop. read more

This is such a great bbq joint. Right off of Hwy 395 in Walker. They have a big menu with something for everyone. I like the bbq sauce cause it's not too sweet. Nice and light. Vinegar and sweet at the same time. Very fun inside and lots of seating outside when the weather is nice. We try to stop here anytime we pass through. The owner could not be more friendly. I traditionally judge BBQ places by the quality and moistness of the brisket and Mountain View really does it exceptionally well. My wife and I finally stopped for the first time yesterday afternoon on a return trip to see family south of Yosemite. It was recommended by friends from Dayton, NV, who stop there on trips up/down US 395. It appears to be a favorite among motorcycle enthusiasts as there is almost always a bunch of bikes outside when we've passed previously. Yesterday was no different -- just as we were arriving, a troop of eight or nine guys on expensive bikes were leaving. There were a half dozen or so other cars in the dirt lot. We did take out rack of baby back ribs and half a chicken, with small sides of artichoke rice and macaroni salad. Overall, the restaurant ranks high on my list of great bbq places -- particularly in our region. It's a different style of smoke bbq from my other Northern NV favorite, Carolina BBQ in Reno. Ribs were exceptional -- lean, meaty, dark smoked coloring without being overwhelming or overly rubbed. Chicken was equally excellent. I'm pretty picky about smoked chicken as it too often can be overly dry, or too smokey, or not smokey. This chicken, however, was downright succulent, particularly the breast. The artichoke rice (a cold side salad) was a new and wonderful taste sensation. The owner, who said he has been in the location for 20 years since moving from Houston, explained it's an old family recipe that appeared a bunch of years ago in Parade magazine. It has a pleasant curry flavor and an interesting texture. The mac salad was good/OK, a bit too much mayo for my preference. I'm spoiled, tho, by a recipe that I make from Cook's Magazine. Still, much better than most. Service-wise, it was friendly and efficient. We waited maybe 15 minutes tops for our order to be ready. The owner Jeff was very friendly and engaging, as has been noted in other columns. For travelers, they don't take credit cards, but there is a sign that says they have an ATM in the house. We've been meaning to try this place and finally had the chance a few weeks ago. We were staying in the area and made our way here for lunch and dined in. Everyone that worked there was friendly and made you feel at home. Nice cold beer, with some good ones on tap which is always a plus in my book. And the burgers where pretty darn good too. We happened to stop at Mountain View Barbeque before crossing the mountains and are so glad we did! The service was attentive and friendly. The BBQ chicken and ribs both moist and flavorful -- with one of the best BBQ sauces I've tasted. Crunchy french fries -- YUM. I took the leftovers home and literally made 3 meals out of one dinner. Our server was kind enough to pour me a cup of (good!) coffee for the journey through the mountains to the Bay Area and also provided helpful route advice for the drive. The prices were extremely fair. My son loved the two dogs, Chopper and Coco, as well as the ribs and fries. If we're ever passing through Walker again, we will make a point of stopping here! read more
