I paid Mark Atkinson (Mountain Top Appliance) $376 on January 5, 2026, for a freezer part and installation. Every two weeks I'd check in on things. I got 'Do in anytime.' as a reply. After a month and a half of no part and various excuses related to health of a family member, I requested a refund. Communication was difficult throughout. After pressing for my money, I was told a refund check was mailed on Feb. 25. I waited seven days, but no check arrived. When I followed up, Mr. Atkinson offered to "stop payment" and bring a check. Based on the pattern of behavior, I informed him I would only accept cash. Provided a partial refund because he decided to keep the diagnosis fee. Would not recommend. read more

Mark came to my house 8 days ago to look at my fridge. He said it needed a new fan. He ordered the fan and said it would be here in two days. Here I am 8 days later with no repair work done. He hasn't called me or said a word to me since he came 8 days ago. Every time I call or text he either ghosts me or tells me he is running the tracking number on the part. As has been said in some of the other yelp reviews, Mark also charged me for the part AND installation right from the outset. It is dishonest to charge a person for the install when the install is not yet completed. This guy is a complete fraud and con man. Stay away from this guy. read more

I paid Mountain Top Appliance for a dishwasher sensor. Service technician told me he would order the part and he would let me know when it got in. Never heard back from him. After several calls he texted me back and said he was unable to get the part so I asked for a refund. Had to send him my mailing address twice. Still no refund. Now he claims it was lost in the mail. read more

Mark at Mountain Top is honest, knowledgable, reasonable, and Covid-safe. Highly recommend! When my fridge died and my home warranty service wanted to send a repair company that had a no-mask policy, I decided to go out-of-network to find someone who would wear a mask in my home. I turned to Yelp, and found Mountain Top. Mark was able to fit me in within a day and a half and he confirmed that he would wear a mask while working on the appliance. He and another gentleman came, were quick but thorough, explained the issue, and even did a final diagnosis for me to provide my home warranty company. Although I paid out-of-pocket for the service rather than going with someone in-network, the total price was reasonable and I was happy to have someone be able to tell me right then and there what the issue was and what to do if it happened again. I hope we don't have any other appliances kick the bucket anytime soon, but I'd call these guys before anyone else. read more

I called Mark at Mountain Top. He was very responsive and courteous. He knows what he is doing. He did what he said he was going to do. He showed up when he said that he would. He fixed my dryer when he said that he would (as soon as the part came in). Excellent service in my book! Don't waste your time with other repairs shops. Immediately talks a lot of negative about his competition. However he isn't any different in the fact that he he doesn't show up, doesn't communicate , and won't set an actual time to meet. Most importantly taking your money is his bottom line. So if you are not ready at the drop of a hat when he can show up then your effed. He won't communicate and when he does he is absolutely awful with insults and condescending and demeaning words and behavior. He left me waiting for 2 months and took money for a service fee with no service. The best part of the story is that the hundreds of dollars in repair that was quoted was a scam ... because it turned out nothing was wrong with my unit at all. So the months of hell this man put me through was for nothing except free cash for him. I really don't know how he gets good reviews on here , this man was the opposite of his reviews. He is a liar and and fraud. He has anger issues and truly frightens me the way he flies off the edge and attacks when he is faced with being held accountable for his behavior. We have a close-knit neighborhood and Mark was recommended twice to me with high marks. He ran right over when my dryer died just before the grandkids came to stay, put a loaner element in it to get me through the week, and just showed up to put in a new element--no charge. Mark and Bill provided excellent service as well as being Covid safe, friendly and courteous. I called them at 9am to repair my dryer vent and they were at my house by 10am. Very very pleased with Mark and his team. We needed repair for our expensive Samsung dryer - it ran but had no heat. I called many appliance service companies in vain, because they did not service Samsung. I got Mark on the phone immediately, while the one other company that would service a Samsung "couldn't get to us" for at least 5 days. Mark came to the house the day that I called diagnosed the problem, and ordered the part on Friday PM. It's Monday, and my dryer is working again ... My Property Manager responded to a call that my A/C was not working and called Mark Atkins Mt. Top Appliance Service. When she went to the property to meet the repair person, he had already serviced the unit by filling it with Freon- stating that there had been leak. The next thing I know is I'm being billed for $1100. for 12lb of R-22 Freon that was never approved in the first place. I have a small unit, the house is small. The line is not that long. This seemed absurd. I checked around several appliance service vendors in the area and asked if this was accurate- a few said that particular R-22 was not used much anymore because it was hard to find and there was new and less expensive R-420 that could have been used. Who knows what this guy used because I never got a chance to decide for myself or ask any questions about the work he planned to do. So, I tried to make it right by asking why he did not consult first and why he used R-22? He did not say why he did not get approval and did not admit to any wrong doing as far as the Freon- just that he could understand why I was upset. I asked if he would reimburse me on the cost and he said would he for $300. and would send a check in the mail. It was been 2mo. and no check. I have called and all he gives are unprofessional excuses about his personal life or surprised that the check was sent but not cashed as if he send it. He has pretended to not have my address several times and is clearly giving me the run around. He is not an honest man and I would warn anyone against using him. read more

Three days before Christmas and our oven stopped working. Found Mountain Top Appliance Service online and sent them an email and Mark responded within an hour. He stopped by the next day to assess the oven and needed to order parts. No oven for Christmas dinner but promised to be there early the week after Christmas. He was true to his word and repaired the oven - and the price was so reasonable. Better than Lowe's who tried to sell us a new oven. Unfortunate that these other reviewers are so negative - Mark rocks! As a newcomer to the Waynesville area it is great to find an honest, reliable repair person. read more

If I could give a business less than a 1 star i would. Unresponsive; unreliable; even wrong phone numbers listed to reach them to follow up. He only came the first time to evaluate a hood stove/exhaust fan covered under home warranty service and never called/followed up again. Got his $125 evaluation fee (we already knew it was not working and owner Mark Atkinson had to just confirm that..geez!) and after that we called him for over 3mos. to get ball rolling so another unit could be installed but he either didn't answer his phone or he had every excuse in the book from a car blowing up, vacation, a death in family!! This has been going on since end of Jan and now its May 30. His registered address as well in Waynesville doesn't even exist as a storefront and he is so deceitful and not worth the time to call. It will be the beginning of a waste of time and frustration beyond belief. Incredibly disappointed and would say 'save your money and time' and find ANYONE else but him for your appliance work. mark came out to see what was wrong with our samsung refrigerator. i called yesterday, and he came out within 24 hours. he is very honest and fair. i asked him about the one bad write up, and he told me that he was in the hospital and could not complete the job. glad i did not listen to the one bad write up. we are waiting to see if the fridge has a problem with the freon, which he said was not worth fixing, or if it is only the control panel, which is not too expensive. i feel that at least i know what to do with the refrigerator, praying it's the control panel. read more
