Staying warm before the sleigh ride!
    Jamie G.

This was one of the most amazing Christmas experiences of my life. I just read an article that they closed their doors after 35 years and it made me so sad. I am so grateful that we were able to experience this as a family. The memories from that night will last my entire life. It was just like we were in a Christmas card. The scenery and the lights and the way they made you feel the Christmas spirit the entire time you were there. The jingle bells jingling as the sleigh ride approached to take us to the barn was so exciting. The entertainment was fabulous, the food was great. We've talked about it for years. I just wanted to pop on here and say thank you for your hard work and for giving us such a wonderful experience.

Y'know the old Dr. John tune "I was in the right place, but it musta been the wrong time?" This was one of those instances. We were visiting Ririe for work and the place our employer usually recommends was booked. The management of that property recommended Mountain River Ranch since they were right across the street, and close to where we were working. The price was right, so we said "OK." MRR is in a beautiful forest setting and the property is just adorable. Tony and Cherry, the camp hosts, are really nice people, as is Annie, who I spoke with on the phone to make the reservation. We had reserved the Buffalo Bill Cabin, and were taken aback upon our arrival to discover it was a rustic cabin, which in and of itself, we don't have a problem with. What did give us pause was the lack of fans or air conditioning. Hubs is one of those guys who sweats when it's 60 degrees out, and our visit was in June, so he was pretty uncomfortable when we were there during the middle of the day. Night wasn't so bad since temps dipped down into the 40's. I found the bed to be perfectly comfortable; him, not so much. Don't get me wrong, I am not slamming Mountain River Ranch in the least. I would definitely stay at this place again at a different time of year and under different circumstances, i.e., an actual vacation, where we could chill and take in the dinner show, which I hear is wonderful. As I said before, the grounds are lovely and the location is perfect, just up the road from Heise Hot Springs. This time around, though, the nature of the property was not conducive to the purpose of the trip. Live and learn.

This is the cabin I stayed in.

I was doing some traveling last summer and found Mountain River Ranch. It was a little hard to find but a fun adventure. If you follow the signs on the surrounding buildings in the local community you will drive straight into their main entrance. Upon arrival the camp hosts Tony and Cherry greeted me and got me checked in. I stayed in Cattle Kate's which was one of the little cabins available for renting. There were many options to stay in including; a lodge, multiple cabins, teepees, a covered wagon, lots of tent space and over 60 trailer spots. When arriving to my room it was very clean and comfy. They don't have running water but they are all conveniently located next to, what appeared to be, brand new restrooms with several toilets and two showers. Very clean restrooms which were well kept and the best part was the water stayed warm for a long time! There is also a handicap accessible bathroom. I stayed for 5 days over the weekend which seemed to be a real hit for family reunions. There were two different ones going on. Lots to kept the little ones busy, MRR had nets available, horseshoes, a covered pavilion, and there was a stock fishing pond that I caught dinner on for the night! I cooked the fish over a fire in the many fire rings. Every camp space had their own picnic table as well. The hosts even offered little pony rides for the little ones which the kids enjoyed so much! Walking around the campground it was kept up to date with watering and mowing. Never seen any garbage laying around! The owners Tran and Annie King were extremely friendly always around keeping the place in the best possible condition! Along with the camp hosts. Everyone was friendly and always making sure my stay was the best possible. There was also dinner shows going on during my stay so around dinner time I got to watch horse draw wagons taking people out to eat. I decided to investigate so I booked a night for myself. Started out with a little shoot out skit in the little town. Then horse draw wagons take you out to the Meadow Muffin where we sang for our food, which was some of the best I've had, and then watched a great musical show. Finally ended the night by being taken back to the little town. The entire area seemed to be a tourist involved community. Just up the road was a pizza parlor, golf course, zip lines and a ski resort in the winter. Driving just past the ski resort it seemed to turn into the real wilderness for hiking, horseback riding and utv/atv riding. MRR was great and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone camping or doing a family reunion! It was such a fun time I will be taking family out next year!!

    Catchy little tune!

Due to the fact that someone was there "first" we were without 50amp power for 5 nights with temps in the high 90's-100. We had reserved and paid for a 50amp spot. When the "buddy" left we plugged into the 50amp plug, but then another "buddy" pulled in!! Well, we had our RV plugged into the 50 amp and our new neighbor was NOT happy. He actually threatened to unplug us! The front desk and maintenance personnel were very friendly and nice. After complaining about paying for 50amps and not getting it, I was reimbursed $10 a night for the five nights we didn't have the 50amps. The laundry and bathrooms were clean. The location was perfect for our itinerary for the area. I wouldn't recommend this place based on our experience with the electricity as stated above and the daily outages of power. I don't understand why they would keep putting people in the "buddy" spot knowing they can't provide the electricity for it, just seems they are asking for bad reviews and unsatisfied customers.

And for anyone needing a recommendation and why I liked staying here at the Jackson Hole/Snake River KOA, let me explain briefly.... I spent my final day at Yellowstone and before heading back to the Salt Lake City Airport back in Utah, I decided to spend the night here. Besides the fact that I love the outdoors and cozy log cabins, these campgrounds were located just outside downtown Jackson Hole, only 12 miles away. Being on the outskirts of Jackson made spending the evening here at my own little cabin pretty affordable. For $70, during the middle part of the month of May, I got to stay here. That was a great deal compared to resting in the heart of Jackson Hole where lodging was much more expensive. Also, the following day I was making the long drive back down south to SLC Airport almost 5 hours and 270 miles away. So for anyone looking to visit Grand Teton and Yellowstone....SLC airport is cheaper compared to flying into PRICEY Jackson Hole Airport. And this itinerary is the most common way to navigate getting to and from this spectacular section of the country. Finally, on my way back to SLC....I stopped along the way at the Wyoming/Utah border and explored Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Some of the scenery there was fantastic with colorful red backdrops and picturesque landscapes. I'd recommend stopping at Flaming Gorge if you have time on your way home...the way I did before my red eye flight back to Florida. Now onto KOA! I arrived during afterhours on the last day of my vacation. My cabin was already paid for so the owners/keepers left my keys in the front mailbox by the main house/front area with directions to my cabin. I had my own parking spot when I found it. It was not hard to find. Beside my cabin were rows of other cabins set up one by one and side by side to each other. The campgrounds were pretty large. Including mine, each cabin space had their own fire pit for barbecuing along with a picnic table. On the porch of each cabin, there were little swings on one side and a bench area on the other. This was accommodating in case you wanted to relax and look up to the stars at night before heading to sleep. My cabin also had a screen door to let fresh air inside. Inside my cabin, I had one double bed and although I was traveling alone, a bunkbed as well. In all, the cabin oozed rustic and quaint. I was happy I chose to stay here. My only slight issue was....(and although they warned me about it before making plans to stay here) they did not provide linens, pillows and blankets. I had to make due with what I had. My cabin had a good working heater because as I'm sure as is the case most nights....it gets cold. Just around my place on the left was the communal bathroom. There were 4 - 5 toilets with plenty of showers to use. I never really bumped into anyone while washing up. The bathrooms were clean and the water pressure was fine with good running hot water. Although my sleep was just okay since I didn't come with a blanket and pillows...it didn't deter me at all....I still very much enjoyed the quietness and peacefulness of the cabin and my stay. There's something about the great outdoors and campgrounds that always win me over! I think it's being able to appreciate nature that I enjoy so much. I grew up in a big city on the east coast and now I live in overpopulated South Florida. Also, I've became a real simple person the more I have aged. I'm someone who doesn't need luxurious accommodations. Ultimately...my experience here at KOA - Jackson Hole was more than suffice. It fit in perfectly with my travel plans coming from touring Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP's, making my way towards Flaming Gorge Reservoir, and eventually returning to Salt Lake City for my flight back home.

The grounds were fine, but the incident…read morethat occurred at Juniper Campground in Ririe, Idaho, on the evening of Saturday, September 13, 2025 left a very bitter taste in our mouths about the trip. What was intended to be a joyful family outing turned into a distressing experience due to the conduct of the camp host. My father-in-law and his wife had made a reservation at Juniper Campground for the weekend and invited my family to join them--myself, my two sons, and our grandchildren. We were all excited to spend quality time together and to try out our newly purchased travel trailers. As first-time trailer owners, this was meant to be a fun and educational experience before the camping season ended. Unfortunately, I had previously purchased concert tickets for an event at Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls scheduled for Saturday evening. My sons and I decided to briefly leave the campground to attend the concert and return afterward. We left in the early evening and returned around 10:20 PM. Upon arrival, we found the second entry gate--through which we had originally entered--locked with a padlock. We then drove to the first gate, which had rising arms and red LED lights, but it did not respond. I exited the vehicle to search for an intercom or manual override, but found none. While attempting to look up a contact number, a white truck with an orange cone in the back approached rapidly. The driver, who identified himself as the camp host, immediately confronted me in an aggressive and profane manner. He shouted, "What the hell are you doing at my gate?" I calmly explained that we were campers returning from a concert and were trying to re-enter the campground. He responded with hostility, saying, "The gates are locked at 10 PM. Didn't you read the rules?" I replied that we had not received any rules, as my 78-year-old father-in-law had checked in first and inadvertently failed to pass them along while we were focused on setting up our trailers. The host continued to berate me, accusing me of lying and using profanity such as "Bullsh*t, everybody receives the rules." When asked for our campsite number, I was momentarily unsure, as my father-in-law had directed us to our spot upon arrival. While I searched for the information, the host continued to question our motives, saying, "Why are you leaving and returning to the campsite this time of night?" I explained our concert plans, only to be met with further disbelief and ridicule. He mocked my Van Halen t-shirt and claimed, "Nobody goes camping to leave for a concert," and "Those bands sucked. The last time I saw Van Halen was in 1979." At this point, I attempted to clarify our situation, but the host warned me that if I raised my voice, he would not allow us back into the campground. After locating a screenshot of our reservation details, I showed it to him. He finally allowed us entry and handed me a printed copy of the rules, stating, "Next time, read the rules." This interaction left me feeling humiliated, belittled, and treated as though I were a criminal. The camp host's behavior was not only unprofessional but bordered on harassment. I understand the importance of rules and quiet hours, but they should be enforced with courtesy and respect--not hostility and profanity. I am deeply disappointed by this experience and will not be returning to Juniper Campground. I'm leaving this review to ensure others are aware of the treatment we received. Guests deserve to feel safe and welcomed--not intimidated or verbally abused.
