This review is long overdue, but I had a great time at Mother's Secret. I drove over an hour to shop here and I wasn't disappointed. Mother's Secret is the only thrift store I went to that had a LARGE selection of maternity clothes. Everywhere else I went mostly had baby clothes. The owner was very kind and accommodating. I tried every piece on in the bathroom before purchasing so I knew I loved every piece I bought. It wasn't super busy (I went in the middle of the day on a week day) so I didn't feel pressured to hurry. I spent about 2 hours thrifting and found my baby shower dress here. She doesn't pre-price items so she will tell you at the register and you can decide if you want to purchase or not. Her prices are fair considering she purchases items from others and it's not just free donations like Goodwill or other thrift stores. The quality of clothes is great. IT'S SO FULL. The owner really stuffed the place. I don't think I can stand straight without having the clothing racks touch both shoulders. I had to kind of turn as I was walking through the store. She's super friendly and runs the whole store herself. She really makes it a point to introduce herself and show each customer around her store. I think she's passionate about being a mother, as she tells some of her story as she's ringing you out. There's no price tag on anything, she kinda decides the prices when you're at the register and then you can decide if you still want the item or not. What a find! I stumbled in here looking to sell my gently used baby clothes, and was graciously greeted by the owner Kathy! She was a sweetheart. I showed up unannounced (you need an appointment to sell) but she didn't turn me away, she accommodated me anyway. I fell in love with this place! So much good stuff-- packed to the top! It's not quite cookie cutter neat, but it's clean and filled with unique items. I loved it. If you ever shopped at Buffalo Exchange, it's the same idea-- buy, sell, and trade in your items for store credit. I wasn't expecting to make a lot of money (for me it wasn't about that) I just wanted to declutter items I wasn't using anymore. The owner was so personable and sweet, you can tell she's a down to earth hard working woman. I work as part of management for a Goodwill so I was iffy about going because how I could betray my own work lol. But my daughter and I were excited to check this place out. When we got inside the owner, a beautiful woman, welcomed us and explained how her store works. She showed us where the 5T clothing for girls was located, and let me tell you, there is so much clothing for 5t. The dresses, omg my daughter loved exploring for cute dresses that fit her style. She found around 7 dresses, 3 sweaters, a vest, and bottoms. Before we wrapped up I spotted an area with cheetah print, I was in heaven! Do know that this woman is a dedicated, hardworking mom doing bada** mom stuff. She is running this store on her own, people. Items aren't tagged so once you are done she tells you the price of each item and you make the decision yes or no. She'll put back your no items, ring you up, and you'll be on your way with cute clothes for your baby. Like I mentioned she is a dedicated mom so sometimes she has to close up shop to be there for her baby. I heavily respect that and understand. Therefore, call the store before going. Sets aren't sold as sets. Each item is priced with a system that probably only makes sense to the owner. Aisles are very narrow so if you are fuller figured or well into pregnancy, it could be a stretch to manuever comfortably. Restroom is available in the back. Many hooks and a tiny table inside to try on items. All in all, I'm a seasoned thrifter and bargain shopper and this place is more boutique pricing than anything. At my local thrift, goodwill, I pay 2.99 for men's shirts-flat. I did buy a handful of things, but felt quite pressured at the end, since no prices are really mentioned before hand. And, employee said "prices depend on demand," a thought I understand. Supply and demand for certain styles I guess. I just know I could pay similar prices for new. Was so excited to come here it was beyond disappointing. Prices were ridiculous (10$) for Mickey Mouse pajamas used (not vintage either). Nothing was priced you had to ask her about each item. Searched a lot and she doesn't let vintage get in there you can tell it probably gets sold on eBay before it ever goes in her store. Not worth the trip in my opinion. Mother's Secret is one instance in which this is not the case. Every single time I have stepped into this store, I've been able to find what I'm looking for and then some. I've managed to pick up some really beautiful and unique dresses for my daughter (both formal and casual) and some great, high-end shoes as well.
