So far I've had nothing but trouble and excuses from this place. I initially called to get a quote for a disk break conversion on my '65 mustang (inline 6, 3 speed manual transmition) I was originlly told the job would take aproximately 3 days. When i dropped the car off i was told two weeks, because it was the end of June and show season. Fine, I get it. It's a specialty shop, of course they do shows. About two weeks in I call for an update because I haven't heard from them and i'm told that they hadn't realized that the car has a manual transmission and needed a special kit that had to be ordered out of state. Ok. Thought I said that. But ok. So long as things are done properly I'm a reasonable person. So a month later at the end of july I get the car back. A week after I pick up my car my brand new supposed to be safer breaks FAILED causing me to crash through my garage door. Pedal to the floor zero resistance or stoping power, break fluid spilled out in the street.... it's really lucky that I wasn't on the freeway when it happened. I had to call off work that night because I didn't have a way of getting there. Next day I call the shop and speak with the owner Jack (who I've been in contact with through this whole ordeal.), to let them know what's happened and of course I'm told nothing like this has ever happened before, they've installed dozens of these kits, bring the car in we'll take a look. It took me about another week to arrange things (rental car, time, tow...) to get the car back to them. So I call asking if I can bring it in and get told all about how they're supposed to be on vacation but they're so busy they can't leave, and call back later we'll see if we can make room. See if you can make room? I don't know but I think if it were my shop I'd be pretty concerned about what went wrong, and cause a customer to be involved in an accident. Alright. Starting to get annoyed, but still I understand. You're busy. I call back and they've found space and I have the car towed in. Here we are over a week later, in to the middle of August, I havn't heard a peep from them. When I call and ask for an update. I'm once again told about their delayed vacation plans and how they're inundated with "supposed emergencies" that they haven't had a chance to really look at it. But "we've parked it on some clean cardboard and the leak doesn't seem that bad." So clearly they haven't bothered to put it up on a rack and just press the breaks pedal to find the leak? I guess backing up their work isn't a priority. I'm asked to call back the next day. Which I do. A couple times.... but low and behold no one answers the phone. Have fun on your vacation guys. It's been about two months now with out a functioning vehicle. I'll just be here trying to figure out how much longer I can keep this rental before my insurance stops covering it, how I'm going to secure my garage door in the mean time, getting quotes to repair damages. read more

As others have said, if you own a Mustang, this is the ONLY place you should take it. Stop looking for anyplace else. I own a 2001 Mustang convertible and have taken it to 2 Ford dealers and another shop (good - but not well versed in mustangs) over the years. What a waste! Jack is SUPER nice, SUPER accommodating (I had to reschedule twice!), SUPER honest, and pretty gosh darn cheap. TL;DR: Hands down one of the best shop for Mustangs and more! Very knowledgeable; if I need an honest and fair appraisal of any issue with my car, I take my car to Jack. I've taken my car in a couple times here for major engine work (replace headers/manifold, clutch, etc.), they always do fantastic work for a great price, and get it turned around in a hurry. I can't speak highly enough of everyone in the shop. Funny, Friendly, and knowledgeable, they'll explain things to you simply without being condescending. When ever I've gotten a quote that seems dubious or I have a problem I can't fix/figure out on my own, then I ask them. After making the rounds of several other mustang "specialists" and having pretty mediocre experiences, I was directed to Mostly Mustangs by a dear friend of mine Mr. Blue. Simply Put: It doesn't get any better than this. If you want excellent repair for your mustang then go see Jack and Sir Richie and your pony will end up purring. Every time I chirp second in my 73 Mach I I say a thankful prayer to Mostly Mustang. The dealer's quote was through the roof, moved the car over to Mostly Mustangs because of their good yelp reviews and now I see why they got the good reviews. So I bought a 1970 Mustang with a 347 stroked out, supercharged beast of an engine. 525+ HP and some guy runs a red light and hits my bright grabber orange loud Mustang. After getting screwed over for two whole months from this guys insurance, I finally get approval to take it to Jack. I got hit so hard, it knocked me onto the median and a bush saved me from hitting a tree. Needless to say, major damage to steering/undercarriage. The guy hit me so hard, it ripped my right tire off and dragged on the concrete. He had to replace everything from tire to tire and I mean everything, for what I thought was a incredible price. I was so worried the insurance would try to salvage it out. I went in twice while my car was in the shop and both times Jack was by himself working on my new dream car. I wouldn't trust my vehicle to any other shop/person. Like most say, they don't talk in a condescending tone or make you feel stupid. Even if you have a stupid question to ask them. Much appreciative of this shop and I'm glad to call them my neighborhood mechanic. 5/5 stars for sure. read more

I took my 2005 Mustang over to Mostly Mustangs and the service was phenomenal. They will drive you to the bart when you drop off your car and pick you up when your car is ready, which was very convenient. I took my car in for a battery replacement and they checked & fixed my tire pressure and lights in addition to replacing my battery. The staff there is very nice and friendly and really care about your car. Not to mention the service is quick! I brought my car in this morning and it was ready by the time I was done at work the same day. Overall, I am very satisfied, and will come here again if my Mustang needs some more TLC. Lastly, you should call and make an appointment first, they do fill up quickly. read more

The most intelligent, competent Auto Repair, Restoration establishment for Mustang, Ford and actually some exotic non Fords as well. Jack, the master and ringmaster of this shop keeps a well equipped, state of the art and old school line of equipment to work on most any thing you can throw at these guys. They are the experts, well informed, and don't condescend to you. They do outstanding brake work, engine - tranny swaps, suspension upgrades, engine modifications, and restoration. Jack is one of the best tuners in the states, from carbs to injection. They have worked on 5 of my collector cars over 15 years, and each experience there, is as valuable as the extraordinary workmanship they place in your vehicle; also Rich is one kick ass brake god, no one is better, period! Concourse quality cars, race cars, daily drivers and rat rod 'stangs seem to be at home there; I once even saw an awesome fully customized AMC Pacer pickup truck there! They have an ethical quality about them, and don't advise anything to your car that's not needed. These guys are simply the best (anywhere), and are so reasonable, you'd be embarrassed not to tip them, even for just being there for over thirty years and providing a facility that deserves far more than 5 stars. This place is great. A lot of garages and dealership could take a lesson from Jack and the Crew on customer service. It says Mostly Mustang and they do just that Mostly, so when they welcomed my Ford F150 (may she serve someone else as she had me for over two turns of the odometer), I had no problem taking my Ranger to them. Never hurt me bad in the pocket and when it did hurt (because I'm tight and don't trust mechanics), I can imagine what the big guys would have done to me. When I get my fast back ( my dream car), I know exactly where to take it, but for now my pick up is their's. Mostly Mustangs remains great. Now I've had the Mustang for 19 years, and they're still my go-to guys. The previous owner also used Mostly Mustangs, so this car has been under their care for 28 years or so, and runs like a top. However, Yelp is "suppressing" my earlier review, and the only reason for this I can see is that they filter out posts from people who don't post a lot. So great, I've been using a business for nigh-on 20 years, think they're great and have had dozens of positive interactions with them. But because I'm not on Yelp all the time reviewing the latest nail parlor, my review is filtered out. Anyway, Jack & his crew are awesome. They do not overcharge, they know their Mustangs better than anyone I've encountered (have had to have other work done elsewhere in emergencies when I couldn't get the car over to Oakland), and can get parts that it seems no one else can get. One note: best to call in advance to schedule, don't just show up. Their work is highly cyclical and they can get busy (for instance, one time they were working on a whole bunch of police cars, so the shop was full). But there isn't ever a tremendous wait, maybe a couple of days one way or another. And their work is absolutely flawless. read more

I seriously adore these guys! They are really amazing and know their stuff. I have had serious issues with my '67 Mustang that no one has been able to fix, except them. Also, being a woman has been a big issue at other places, but not at Mostly Mustangs. They respect what I do know and are more than willing to explain what I don't without talking down to me. Long story short, my car, after almost 20 years of ownership and garage sitting, finally runs, and stops, like it should. The price was amazing! I expected it to be a lot more. had to have my transmission replaced here when my regular guy couldn't do it. they do great work and will drive you to bart if you need it. the only reason i'm not giving five stars is because there is a bit of that intimidating feel, especially from one of the older guys. i've been told he's like that with everyone though, so i try not to take it personally. read more

My husband gave me a 1966 6 cyl. mustang as a wedding present. I took it into Mostly Mustangs for an estimate on any work that might need to be done immediately. I let them know that I was a first time vintage car owner and had lots of questions.... including how/when to check the oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and radiator. Jack, the owner, was nothing but patient, informative, and attentive. (It definitely helped that I had specific questions for him after having driven it for a few months.... so my advice would be to have a list of questions for the folks there to check out.) Their itemized estimate was free and it ended up that I had potentially $1500 worth of parts and labor that could have been done to the car. But Jack said "You really don't have to do any of it now... the car's in good shape." What an honest guy! Jack and I reviewed the list together and I prioritized it. I ended up having the oil changed, wiper blades replaced, and the locks cleaned and re-greased. I'll be sure to come back when it's time for the leaf springs and break pads to be replaced. I used to go see Jack when I was a brat in the late '80s, with my beat up blue '69 fastback. I knew damn well how to replace my own cap, rotor and spark plugs but these guys would make the car start up & run *sweet*, with a busted choke. Just posting a bit of an update - I haven't taken my mustang back to Jack's place in a while, as they appeared to have a bit of a space/availability issue that ended up causing a number of delays in getting my daily driver back on the road. I called over to get a rough estimate on some possible upgrades to a Gen1 mustang I was thinking about buying, and they provided the amounts easily as the work is fairly typical. Better than that, I was pleasantly surprised to spend about 10 mins on phone learning more about early Mustangs and why some of the upgrades might be a bad idea, especially for a 6 cylinder car. I did a lot of research before I took my 66' Mustang to them. They don't try to get you on work you don't need and the quality is great. If you have an emergency or something major they'll try their best to get you in and taken care of as quicly as possible. I'd rather pay a little extra to have someone who knows and specializes in what they're working on rather than some random shop that takes all makes and models. Been to a few other Mustang shops in the bay area and the service was ok. but I had a problem with my rear axle in my 66 coup and other places didn't have the parts/ couldn't find the parts to fix it and wanted to completely rebuild my rear end ($1200). Took it to Mostly Mustangs and they fixed it for a fifth of the price in less then a day. Couldn't be happier with the service, definitely the only place I am taking my Mustang now. read more

Saw these guys here on Yelp, and took my Mustang in 'cause the "check engine" light had come on (first time in 10 years). They got me right in and out in 30 minutes, and were marvelous. Told me what the problem was, what to do about it, and sent me out the door whistling a happy tune.
