Brian told me it was the logic board, and also the battery needed to be replaced. Since I was only in town for the holidays, I thanked him, paid the very reasonable diagnostic charge, and figured I would get it repaired when I got back home. Big mistake. After suffering through two weeks of no laptop, I arrive home in Davis, California to learn that no one has the parts, or it will cost hundreds of dollars more than what I was quoted by Astoria's Best, and that I should just "get a new MacBook." I am so over this disposable tech culture, and if I can save hundreds of dollars repairing my existing hardware I'm going to do that. So I called AB, they happily agreed to fix it if I shipped it up, and they probably got it done faster than the times I was quoted at home. Overall I had a great experience and would happily use their services again for larger repairs that made sense with shipping cost. My laptop came back well packed, clean, and working.
