Brian told me it was the logic board, and also the battery needed to be replaced. Since I was only in town for the holidays, I thanked him, paid the very reasonable diagnostic charge, and figured I would get it repaired when I got back home. Big mistake. After suffering through two weeks of no laptop, I arrive home in Davis, California to learn that no one has the parts, or it will cost hundreds of dollars more than what I was quoted by Astoria's Best, and that I should just "get a new MacBook." I am so over this disposable tech culture, and if I can save hundreds of dollars repairing my existing hardware I'm going to do that. So I called AB, they happily agreed to fix it if I shipped it up, and they probably got it done faster than the times I was quoted at home. The lead installer was described by one of my neighbors as "unctious" which I had to look up in the dictionary. It's good because I was stuck somewhere between condescending and rude. As bad as the install was, it took three times as long as the owner promised. So long in fact, that he drove out just to see why. When he was shown photos of the "finished" job and admitted it was bad and did nothing but threaten to send the same guy back. It is better to spend your money on an out of town, county or even state company to start with because for a viable system, you will eventually.
