    Thai Mussels

A fabulous small seafood find in the heart Westerpark. Not a big selection, and best you like mussels, but top quality food and service (yes, it is possible in Amsterdam!). And where else can you get gin infused-Mayo!? I can't wait to take my son and friend their when I return in Aug and Sep.

I thought this place would be very highbrow, but obviously I can't pass up a concept like seafood and G&Ts so I decided to check it out anyway. It was actually the opposite of what I expected - extremely laid back, with a wonderful relaxed terrace and very friendly staff. Although the clientele is exactly as impeccably groomed as one would expect. We ordered 1x mussels and with two G&Ts it made the perfect light summer meal. Four stars only because it took us ages to get any servers to pay attention to us (but they were wonderful once they did!!)

I was looking for a restaurant which had outdoor space for date night because the weather was awesome. We have been hearing about Mossel En Gin from many people and thought we should check it out because 1) their outdoor space looked good, 2) we love mussels, and 3) who doesn't love a good G&T? Food: We ordered the following: 1) Oysters - Not very good and the mignonette was not a traditional one you get with mussels, but was more like a chutney - Odd. 2) Pulpo - Not very good. The dish seemed very 1990s. 3) Classic Mussels - Although the Mussels were small (not their fault, it's technically still not true mussel season yet) the broth was pretty good. Drinks: We ordered two half Bloom Gin drinks. FYI - you can order a half or full glass. Price: €55.50 Service: It's a very young serving staff. Our server was super friendly and helpful. Ambiance: Very cool and laid back in the terrace area. Would I go back? Yes, but I would only go back for classic mussels during mussel season and for the casual outdoor seating.

From top left, clockwise: fish cookies, sardines, Thai mussels, octopus, mushroom mussels. Enough for three people.

One of the best food experiences in my three months in Amsterdam. Sat outside on the picnic tables in the beautiful weather! (Got cold after sundown.) Cocktails were all on point - we ordered (forgot the real names, sorry) basil, raspberry, and Bloody Mary. I would absolutely recommend the mushroom mussels and the pulpo octopus. SO flavorful!!! The Thai mussels were good, but overshadowed by the mushroom mussels. Sardines were large and came with crackers..they were ok, a little too fishy for my taste. And the fish cookies...not memorable :(. I do know they were made of a mixture of fish meat and potatoes and fried...my friends said they tasted like falafel, if that helps :). Free tap water, and a whole roll of paper towels if you need napkins!

When I called last minute before the kitchen was about to close, I was greeted with an amazing friendly service and they prepared our mussels while we were on the way to there. Anyway, as we arrived this friendliness remained and we were treated in the best way possible. And then the mussels we ate... this is by far the biggest portion of mussels I ever had. It was the one with mushrooms, and it is a bigger portion than the classic one that my girl ordered. But both were big enough for a full meal. And the taste was perfect. Really, their chefs know how to make amazing mussels, and together with this kind of service, I can only give it 5 stars. Thanks to my girlfriend to bring me here.

Moules frites! What's not to like?? This place is a little bit further than the city center, and when I say city center, I mean those depicted in the free map that you get from your hotel, but fret not - there's a tram line and bus line going here and it's totally worth it. This place is located in a park with an old gas factory building that makes it look a little bit of Eastern-Europe-ish but it's a pretty surrounding, especially in the autumn like where we went. The place doesn't have much menu, apart from the one described in the title, but that makes it all better no? They do have oysters apart from the mussels, but we got our mussels and gin alright. I chose the Roquefort moules frites and the gin from the new menu (since they no longer had the one with the mango). I couldn't remember exactly the name but it was super refreshing (from the flowery side). My Roquefort mussels were to die for and it was just perfect size that left us satisfied but not like we needed to roll ourselves out (uh, maybe just a little bit). It's a great place!

Super delicious mussels for a great price (1k for 16 euros). I would definitely return. I shared with my husband and the meat in the mussels was the biggest I have ever seen. Also a very nice atmosphere and service.

If you want the best Dutch mussels in Amsterdam, you go here. The food is beyond amazing and the service is great. The patio outside is really nice on a Summer day. And the gin menu is excellent.

Roquefort Mussels and Peach Gin Cocktail. BF has the Mango gin cocktail but mine was the clear winner ! (Apologies for the blurriness...)

This place is AWESOME. Can't believe it took almost a year for me to finally visit ! The Gin cocktails on offer are incredible, try the peach one ! And definitely get the Roquefort Mussels, can't wait to revisit, best on a sunny day sitting in their adorable courtyard filled with apple trees :)

Have you tried the new place Mossel & Gin? That is the question I'd been asked at least a half dozen times. Finally I went with a group of 6 and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We sat outside on their lovely terrace and enjoyed our meal with drinks. We started with Gin and I ordered the one with basil in it. Not overly powerful with the fresh basil in it. It was perfect. Refreshing and the right amount of basil flavor. We also ordered the shrimp bitterball. One of the best I've ever had. It had a perfectly delicate crisp shell and moist gooey yumminess inside and they weren't shy with the amount of shrimp in them. My friend and I shared the Thai Mussels and the Mackerel. Mussels were good but the Thai flavor/sauce wasn't truly authentic but definitely more than good enough. The mackerel was incredible! Thick, moist and perfectly salty. I enjoyed every bite! Last but not least, their fries were quite tasty. Crispy and moist inside. On top of all the food and drinks I was so happy we had good customer service. Yeah I tried to holler our server a handful of times with no success but hey, they were busy. We didn't have to wait too long compared to some places in this city. Added plus, our server was such a friendly guy. Word of warning, if you don't like seafood, your stuck with only fries. If you don't like gin, they have beer and wine. It's a great hidden location, tourist free ( except for my friends from the states, haha). Put this place on your radar and go!

When you walk in, you're greeted by their in-house fish market, where everything is visibly fresh and beautifully displayed. You simply choose the fish or shellfish you want, they assemble your order, print a ticket, and you continue on to the wine shop. Before going any further, I want to highlight how impressive the fish market is. It feels almost like stepping into a wholesale seafood market, complete with checker-tape pricing. The staff will tell you exactly how each item can be prepared. For example, when we ordered a dozen mussels, they explained all the options and recommended a coconut curry preparation--an excellent choice and absolutely delicious. Once you have your ticket, you head into the wine bar. The team already knows how your meal will be prepared and offers thoughtful wine-pairing suggestions based on your selections. From there, you're taken to your table, where the outstanding service continues. We were served a beautiful basket of fresh bread almost immediately, along with our chosen wine. By the way, did I mention how beautiful the place is! For starters, I ordered a dozen oysters, and each pair was prepared in a different style. Every single one was outstanding. The mussels in curry sauce were so good that I needed extra bread just to savor every drop. Finally, we had monkfish--an impressively large piece, perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and absolutely incredible. From start to finish, the entire experience was exceptional. The team at Pesca, and truly the people of the Netherlands, know how to do it right. Hats off to this outstanding restaurant. I only wish we had one where I live--I'd be there every day. Actually, it would be dangerous to have Pesca too close...I'd go bankrupt:)

We had originally booked the Damrak 213 location but had to cancel due to a flight delay. Determined to make the most of our short time before heading to Paris the next morning, I chose this location because it was close to the areas we wanted to explore after dinner -- and I'm so glad I did. After reading on their website that they keep tables available for walk-ins at most locations, we decided to try our luck. As soon as my best friend and I walked in, we were not disappointed. The ambiance felt right immediately -- warm, inviting, and full of good energy. There was little to no wait, and the fresh seafood display at the front looked incredible. Vanessa was our lovely server and truly a whole vibe throughout the evening. She, along with "Mr. Champion," gave us great suggestions on where to walk and explore next -- and we absolutely took their advice. I love a menu where you can order and split a little bit of everything with a friend, and every single dish was perfection. The shrimp croquettes, king prawns, asparagus, roasted carrots, and fish and chips (kibbeling) were all served hot, fresh, and packed with flavor at a very reasonable price. The kitchen was run by a Black chef who was clearly putting in serious work and completely understanding the assignment. I wanted to personally commend him, but he was fully locked in and busy creating magic. Even the espresso martini stood out -- easily one of the best I've had. Great, relatable conversations, amazing food, and the evening ended on a sweet note with a complimentary lemon crème brûlée served with sparkles. This spot is truly a neighborhood gem. I'm so glad we chose this location -- it turned a rushed travel day into a memorable night dining with some true champions. We can't wait to return with more time to fully enjoy the experience.

Everything, from getting a drink to ordering food, felt like a struggle, and the staff didn't make me feel welcome at all. The location and ambiance - well, that is what everyone writes glowingly about in their reviews. The space is uber urban and super cool and inviting. Complete with old industrial equipment and ceiling riggings. The food . . . good, but not great. I guess the best description I have for the food is - unremarkable. It was a decent meal and we enjoyed the variety of offerings on the menu; however, the meal was not the sort of "I need to get back there" kind of dining experience. As for the service - I think the place is just so large - there must be one hundred tables - that it is easy for tables to get lost in the shuffle. We were one of those tables. We just got sort of forgotten. When the servers did present table-side, they were kind and attentive . . . but the times we actually saw our server were few and far between. One note, the servers for our table changed three times over our two hour dining time slot. This may have been the reason we got "lost." My take away - give Café-Restaurant Amsterdam a go. It is worth it. And, make certain you have a reservation - they are a very large dining space that is popular and the tables fill.
