Both had a deliciously crisp crust, thin yet chewy, just as good as you'd find in a pizza joint. Next up was the dim sum from the Chinese stand. We tried several items including Har Gow, charsue bow, sesame balls, xiao long bao, and green onion pancakes. Everything was impressively cooked, with the steamed items cooked very nicely. It could rival some dedicated Chinese restaurants I've visited. From the Japanese stall, we ordered a salmon and avocado hand rolls, which turned out to be generously packed with fresh fish, avocado and other ingredients. The flavor balance was excellent, and it was clearly made with care. The venue itself is spacious and welcoming, with long communal tables that easily accommodate groups. However, on the day we visited, it was particularly hot inside, due to the heat wave combined with heat from the cooking stations. What I love the most about Foodhallen is the atmosphere. It has a cozy vibe to it. There are multiple street foods to choose from. Plenty of seats to relax and soak up the good vibe, if you are lucky to grab a table. Service is professional and fast. I love the fact that it's inside because Dutch weather is always unpredictable. I had such an amazing experience at this food hall! There's so many food options here and every stall I've tried was delicious. We decided to divide and conquer with some holding down tables and others getting their orders in. There is also some live music I believe too or it's just an overall loud atmosphere. Everything about this place is so mid. If you have been to food halls in New York, California, Canada, or London, this place pales in comparison and has the most lackluster food. Every stall from the bitterballen, to the oysters, to the sushi, to the chicken sandwich were all woefully lacking in flavor and seasoning. Amsterdam has a wonderful Cornucopia of food, but this place is not it. Don't fall into this tourist trap. The only thing I will say is that everyone is so wonderfully friendly here. Traveling with a picky six-year-old is not always easy. Therefore, we decided to check out this place because it would allow my husband and I the opportunity to eat what we wanted to eat and offered things like spaghetti and pizza which appeal to the six-year-old's palette. I walked my six-year-old around the food hall and he looked at the spaghetti and he looked at everything else and he decided on the pizza. So we promptly ordered him a pizza and then I began to peruse for myself. Every location gives you a pager to let you know when your food is ready. After examining basically every stall, I decided on the tapas. So, I ordered my tapas, and we found my husband at the oysters and local fish stand. Then we found a table. My husband's fish and chips was ready first. Then I went and got some drinks at the bar. Then I went and got my tapas. My tapas were incredible. I especially enjoyed the croquettes . The chorizo was excellent as well. My husband wasn't in love with a fish and chips so he decided to go to the Vietnamese stand and order banh mi. He loved the banh mi and talked about it for days afterward. He loved it so much we almost went back to De Foodhallen 2 nights later so he could get it again and I could try the Indonesian stall, but we weren't sure what we would feed my son as we were not going back for pizza. The pizza was a problem, which is why we didn't give this place 5 stars. We ordered my child's pizza first. We then ordered our food, got drinks, ate our food, husband ordered a second meal and ate that, and still no pizza. All this to say my husband ate two meals and I ate one and 45 minutes later my child's pizza still wasn't ready. There was only 1 gentleman taking the pizza orders, taking the money for the pizzas, and making the pizzas. That is problem number one. They need more staff. The second problem is he was unkind. I went back to check on it after about 20 min and was told just 2-3 more minutes. When it still never came my husband went back with our time stamped digital receipt (apple pay) and stood there until it was ready. He never apologized or explained what happened. Instead he was rude and unkind. It was very disappointing. After nearly an hour my child got his pizza and he ate it, but our experience with the pizza really soured us on the whole place and led to really our negative experience with people in Amsterdam. read more

This place is overhyped and I am not sure about the reviews here. The one great thing I can see about this place is it has all kinds of food so it caters to many types of customers. However, a big con is this food hall was over crowded with no seating and food takes a long time to get. We got the Bitterballen (Netherland street food) flights from De BallenBar since it was the only Dutch food stall we saw and they tasted just okay to me. The balls were lacking in flavors in my opinion. After we waited for half an hour to get our food, we have to fight the crowds to get out, and stand outside to eat our food since all the seating inside the hall was taken. Nice food hall to visit with a variety or cuisines and chill vibes. Compared to American food halls this one felt less rowdy and there's plenty of seating along the center hallway. I did like some of the food more than others. The bao buns (shrimp chili from Mer du Nord) were my favorite and most flavorful. The sushi (Mr Temaki) was also good - my hand rolled was prepared fresh and was delicious! We also tried the bitterballen flight (De Ballenbar) because it was a Dutch thing to try - did not enjoy how mushy it was on the inside but that could be a bitterballen thing I wasn't used to. One of the best food halls I've been to and our best bites of our Amsterdam trip. Highlights: - Bitterballen from De Ballen Bar: so crispy made fresh with mashed potatoes and different ingredients. Love the variety of 5 you could get to taste different ones. The beef was our favorite followed by the truffle, but also enjoyed the bouillabaisse, Thai chicken curry, and spinach. 5 stars - Cod fish bites from Mer du Norde: one of the best fried seafoods I have had. Crispy textured batter with a bit of seasoning and fresh fish inside. One of my favorite parts of my trip to Amsterdam was De Foodhallen (obviously a foodie) and it was pretty closeby to our hotel, we saved this for our 3rd dinner of the trip. This place is a wide variety of flavors, cuisines, independent restaurants, cultures, drinks and vibes all together was just really fun. We tried a little bit of everything, but the real reason we came down was Bulls and Dogs, because those hot dogs are really something to be believed, they were so good. From Chinese dumplings, Mexican tacos, Spanish tortilla, Vietnamese Banh mi, falafel, kebab, sushi, poke, bbq, etc. I had 2 specific stalls I wanted to try. One I couldn't find at all - I walked the entire foodhall and even walked outside just in case but I had no luck finding it. The other was De Ballenbar that serves Dutch fried balls. Plenty of tables and seats. Be prepared to share a table with random people or wait forever. I came here as soon as they opened and some stalls weren't open yet. By the time I walked around and got food (30 minutes from opening), the place was packed! Good thing was I went here solo so, I was able to secure a 2-person table. I got my food but I needed a drink. I left my food on the table and my jacket on my seat so I could get a drink - I was a bit leery about my stuff behind but I was more worried about choking on my food and not having a drink. Most food stalls carry only that: food. If you want a drink, you have to go to the bar or a natural juice stall. I saw people with bottled water and I couldn't find bottled water from the bar and the juice place. I gave up and just got a bottle of unknown local soda. I came back to my table and my stuff was still there. Whew! I was people watching as I was enjoying my lunch. Clean up after yourself when you're done.
