This place is absolutely incredible. One of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. All of the seafood is cooked perfectly. Like some of the best cooked seafood I've ever had. The veggie dish was not an afterthought like at many seafood places, it was actually one of the highlights of the night. Service was friendly and impeccable. Outstanding seafood. Fresh, reasonably priced in a great location. If you want to sit outside with a glass of wine or sit at the raw bar like I did enjoy a very welcoming, relaxed experience of excellent food in a casual but Parisian bistro like setting come here. Wines pair very will with the menu and they have some very reasonably priced but excellent selections. Great people from the chef to server and oyster shuckers, you will enjoy. I had a selection of different oysters selected by the shucker and they were each different flavor profile but each outstanding! Sweet, mineral tasting, creamy and saline. Good selection. Just a bit of a squeeze of lemon tartness all that was needed to accentuate the flavor. I followed with mussels in a Gorgonzola sauce. I was a bit put off thinking the Gorgonzola would overwhelm the flavor and sweetness of the Mussel but I am a convert. Only thing was I had to ask for more of that delectable sauce and crusty bread to sop up all that delicious sauce. They were happy to oblige and I was in heaven. I woke up late today and by the time I was ready for my breakfast it was way past 3 pm. I craved metallic aftertaste of an oyster complimented by the glass of wine. Was comparing few seafood restaurants and the brut de mer won, since it was just 10 min away from my home. Walked over and was greeted by the lovely bartender, while waiting for my handsome date I ordered the oyster taster (6 oysters) when he arrived we got him his own oyster platter as well. Then I wanted to taste the scallops that were divine and a half of lobster. All of this and 3 glasses of wine was about 100 euro. Loved the intimate atmosphere and attentive service. Highly recommend to avoid the evening rush and just skip the work to enjoy the gifts from the sea. Live a little. Have an oyster! read more

Definitely miss this place. I did a good amount of walking (from Jordaan to De Pijp) as it was a beautiful day and I wanted to explore. I went to the markets and browsed around for quite some time and worked up an appetite. I luckily noticed their sign for oysters outside and immediately went in on the whim. Not a huge establishment (about 30 seats inside including bar; outdoors seating available too) but perfect environment for what I wanted. I came a bit too early for dinner so I enjoyed oysters at the bar which were heaven. If anyone was watching me I probably looked crazy but I was appreciating the taste and the moment. :) I love the restaurant scene and have frequented my share of oyster bars and the gentleman behind the bar was knowledgeable and full of charisma; embodying the true fashion of The Oyster Man. As the dinner rush started to come in, a couple locals beside me asked where I was from and what brought me to the restaurant. (3 week trip from New York to Europe solo). I simply just said "I wandered and just came in. It's totally up my alley." This is a local gem and in the heart of the neighborhood and I was happy to know my afternoon journey led me here. I treated myself with a couple glasses of bubbles and then I decided to indulge in their Steak tartare with caviar. Beautifully presented. Sat at bar in small restaurant . Started with dozen French origin oysters. Maybe best flavor and quality I've ever had. Barman was super helpful with recommendations and wine pairing. Another good spot for fish fanatics. Had a dinner here last night with two and considering the location and hour (de pijp and busy), I was surprised by the level of service and quality of food, although the latter was better than the first. The appetizers were original and tasty (we didn't dare to eat the oysters at 32C temperature outside, but will back for that another time). The only two dissappointments were the lobster roll (which was 95% roll and 5% lobster and came almost an hour after the appetizers) and the pricing, which was challenging given the size and portions. The wines (we had the viognier and vernentino) were not out of the ordinary, but not extremely expensive either. For about the same price, you could have a multicourse meal at John Dory for instance which I still think is a far better option. Finally, we had to walk to the bar for the bill after desperately trying which in my view translates to zero tipping. Nevertheless, I would definetely recommend this place to anyone in the neighbourhood looking for some good fish and seafood (the oysters looked fantastic!). read more

When we were turned away by a near by Korean restaurant, this place caught my eyes so we walked in feeling very hangry. We were immediately served by lovely staff who were very busy with this packed place. Surprised by so much flavor in oysters and mussels, we couldn't help looking around what ladies next seats were eating; a giant seafood platter made me drool. Love this quaint little restaurant! It does not have a very extensive menu but it's my go to place in de pijp for some food seafood! I love their razor clams. They're often very packed during the weekends so book in advance! One negative side if that they only have one toilet/washroom which is at the very end of the restaurant (being a very small restaurant). When someone uses it... in a bad way, it starts to reek. So I'd advice you to sit near the entrance where some fresh air may flow in once in a while... I speak from experience.. and we did lose out appetite... But nevertheless, we still would come back. Have you already met The Oyster Man? This tall boyish man will charm you with his enthusiasm and knowledge. I told him I like my oysters fleshy and he gave me the right stuff: huge, 'fat' Gillardeau oysters with a rich taste. The sensation of something that pure is unbeatable, especially if you drink a glass of chilled Viognier with it. If you want to be pampered too, just go to Brut de Mer, a new intimate seafood bar/restaurant close to a street where seductive clothes shops prevail: the Gerard Doustraat. The menu is concise but attractive. Home-made shrimp croquettes and calamares a la plancha are on the list together with a damn good lobster roll. Picture this: toasted slightly sweet French bread (brioche), some home-made lemon mayonnaise, thin cabbage slices and chunks of juicy lobster straight from the province of Zeeland (Oosterschelde). Of course this roll is served with a fork and a knife - hello, this is a decent place. But it's much easier and nicer to turn the roll into a decadent 'burger bun' and to eat it without cutlery. Sat at the bar. The bartender gave perfect recommendations and guidance for both food and wine. Delicious oysters and all around excellent food. The clam Tartufo comes with a delicious broth. Even if you get fries you'll still want bread for the broth. Staff is friendly and look like they may have been selected from a modeling agency.
