The best seat in the house is probably the few tables outside overlooking the cannel. We got in around 6pm on a Wednesday night and we saw locals pouring in after work, super packed and vibrant.

We made a reservation to celebrate a friend's engagement, and so we got to say "one of each!" to every plate. They were so accommodating with dietary restrictions, and carefully mapped out which plates I could have, while adjusting others as possible. Every plate had amazing sauces, so we really put "fare la scarpetta" to work with our bread. Some standouts that we all loved were the langoustine with sweetbread and the eggplant with miso. They brought me the mignonette sauce for oysters, instead. Better, but not much. Everything else I sampled was good, but I would go back many times over and simply gorge on artichokes. So would everybody else, from what I could see. Every single table ordered one or more. Gertrude's encourages family-style sharing, and the focus is on dishes that showcase the flavors of a few simple ingredients. There is room for improvement. With just a few tweaks, this place might deserve a Michelin star.

Explore everything here! We came to Dutch Delicacy on pure accident, as we were walking around and saw that they had a ton of different goudas for sale. In the front part of the store is a take-out counter where they sell hot items, like sandwiches and baked pastries and desserts, like cheesecakes and cookies the size of your face! It all looked appealing and would've totally purchased a food item, had we not had lunch beforehand. Throughout the store were the cheese samples of the many different various kinds. It goes beyond what you thought gouda could be. There are sheep's and goat's cheeses for many of the different types. There are pesto cheeses that come in different colors like a bright blue and pink. There are cheeses that pair well with the dips that had me thinking about my next dinner party. There's Dutch chocolate here for sale. There's different knives for cutting cheese. There's truly everything here you could imagine for your gouda-filled meal. Staff was super friendly and asked if we needed any help or wanted to know more about any of the different cheeses. For sale, a lot of the goudas are pre-packaged for a pound and meets airline security measures for taking it home with you. I'm glad we stumbled upon Dutch Delicacy. Since it's my favorite place, I looked it up on maps and saved it. When I was there a month or so later, I was riding my bike in the afternoon and saw someone sitting near the front window working on his MacBook with a nice glass or white wine. I immediately slammed the brakes and parked my bike! Fortunately I had my MacBook so I could get some work done and drink some great wine at 4 PM (16:00 hours). Bottom line is you simply purchase a 20-30 euro card (or whatever you want) when you get there and can just choose from any wine in the restaurant. It's awesome. The notable thing is, the bartenders are wonderful and very helpful. They don't just let you fend for yourself, they assist you, give you advice, even free samples! Awesome place. Also, great food too! Try the oysters! They have bitterballen (of course) all day - then dinner and food all night. My favorite dinner place in Overtoom. Don't be afraid as I was the first time - when it was really crowded. Friendly and warm place - gezellig!
