Great, cozy, quiet location, great wine (and wine recommendations), delicious food and (I thought) very reasonably priced. I met a friend for an after-work drink which turned into grabbing a quick bite, and our two generously portioned dishes and two wines came out to something like 13 euros per person. While we were in an out (the service is fast too!), this is definitely a place I will come back to linger, as it seems like a great spot for hanging out and drinking lots of delicious wine and eating delicious snacks as the days get shorter and colder. My favourite part is that the small plates menu is highly creative while still being simple and not compromising on taste.

Wow! What an amazing place. Love the shared plates and the variety of the food. Excellent friend service. Will definitely be back!

One of the best meals I have had in Europe while on my vacation. The wine list is great and varied. There are quite a few types and countries to choose from. Walter (the owner) was an awesome guide for my my wife and I who don't speak or read the language. He was extremely patient with us and really knew and had a passion for wine. The food was really well prepared. Everything tasted great. From the octopus to the oysters, the stuffed avocado, veal meatballs, charcuterie and salmon tartar. Plenty of outdoor seating in a quiet area. He even went out of his way to offer me allergy medication when he noticed I was suffering badly from the local allergies. To be honest - my wife and I felt like we were having dinner with a friend. He has another restaurant right across the street and my wife and I cannot wait to come back to Amsterdam to try it out.

We made a reservation to celebrate a friend's engagement, and so we got to say "one of each!" to every plate. They were so accommodating with dietary restrictions, and carefully mapped out which plates I could have, while adjusting others as possible. Every plate had amazing sauces, so we really put "fare la scarpetta" to work with our bread. Some standouts that we all loved were the langoustine with sweetbread and the eggplant with miso. The atmosphere was cozy and made us reluctant to leave at the end. Thank you, Gertrude, for an amazing dinner. We'll definitely be back!

We were seated outdoors on their charming terrace, facing the street, which is jammed with fun street-side restaurants. Plenty of people watching! We were having a great time and it was clear that the rest of the guests were, too. It felt like a chic and delightful party. The absolute highlight of our meal was the fresh French artichoke, which was nearly as big as my head. That I could have one served to me this minute! It was the BEST I have ever had, and I'm crazy about artichokes. Lamentably, it was served with a bland mayonnaise (or was it a bland Hollandaise?), while it was begging for something acidic (artichokes are alkaline in flavor), so I asked for a vinaigrette. They brought me the mignonette sauce for oysters, instead. Better, but not much. Everything else I sampled was good, but I would go back many times over and simply gorge on artichokes. So would everybody else, from what I could see. Every single table ordered one or more. Gertrude's encourages family-style sharing, and the focus is on dishes that showcase the flavors of a few simple ingredients. There is room for improvement. With just a few tweaks, this place might deserve a Michelin star.

Explore everything here! We came to Dutch Delicacy on pure accident, as we were walking around and saw that they had a ton of different goudas for sale. In the front part of the store is a take-out counter where they sell hot items, like sandwiches and baked pastries and desserts, like cheesecakes and cookies the size of your face! It all looked appealing and would've totally purchased a food item, had we not had lunch beforehand. Throughout the store were the cheese samples of the many different various kinds. It goes beyond what you thought gouda could be. There are sheep's and goat's cheeses for many of the different types. There are pesto cheeses that come in different colors like a bright blue and pink. There are cheeses that pair well with the dips that had me thinking about my next dinner party. There's Dutch chocolate here for sale. There's different knives for cutting cheese. There's truly everything here you could imagine for your gouda-filled meal. Staff was super friendly and asked if we needed any help or wanted to know more about any of the different cheeses. For sale, a lot of the goudas are pre-packaged for a pound and meets airline security measures for taking it home with you. I'm glad we stumbled upon Dutch Delicacy. We were able to try so many different cheeses, which I found a few for home. I recommend for anyone visiting Amsterdam to make a stop here; there's a lot of items you'll want to take home with you.
