I was originally planning to visit another wine bar the next street over, but my timing was off and there wasn't room for me. I decided to wander down to the next street and came upon Wijnbar Paulus. This charming wine room transports you to your best friend's classy yet cozy living room, where you can enjoy unique varietals that aren't commonly found on wine menus. At the recommendation of my wine stewart, I let him pick the wines in my wine flight. He started me off with a 2016 wild fermented Assyrtiko from Gaia estate, followed by a few amazing reds, and ending with Blandy's Madeira "Alvada" Bual-Malmsey. Paul, the owner, also made a point to go to every table in the room, and we had a great conversation about how he goes about selecting wines for his room. You can also order warm snacks, such as braised pork belly, meatballs in tomato sauce, and mushrooms with goat cheese -- excellent small bites for pairing with good wines!

Situated in the heart of De Pijp, they are certainly not looking for customers, but the solid recommendation from our host, Melody, and the cute atmosphere drew us in. The wine list is large and while there Are flights of wine, I'd recommend a bottle as the most economical option. We shared a sauvignon blanc and a small plate of a Dutch crumbled cheese. Really great all around- us recommend all those that can go visit the area.

When we explore a city, we love eating and drinking! Who doesn't, right? Yelp assisted us once again in finding a lovely wine bar to spend our last night in Amsterdam. Not traditionally the style we gravitate toward - no dark wood, no traditional bar. The vibe here is more like someone's homey lounge or dining room for sharing delightful wines and chatting. There's a large selection of whites, reds, bubbles, and even port at an excellent price point. We settled in with some whites and reds we truly enjoyed! Paul, the owner, is incredibly knowledgable, friendly & extremely helpful. If you give him a sense of what you like, he will happily help guide you or he just may bring you a taste of something truly special! By the end of our evening, we were sad to be leaving Amsterdam because it meant we couldn't come back tonight!

Great evening spent here tasting three different red wines from three different countries along with some great local snacks (and happy they served some cheese from my Belgian town!). Particularly liked the little stories the waiter told us about each wine and the tips he gave us to properly smell and enjoy our wine! I will definitely come back!

We made a reservation to celebrate a friend's engagement, and so we got to say "one of each!" to every plate. They were so accommodating with dietary restrictions, and carefully mapped out which plates I could have, while adjusting others as possible. Every plate had amazing sauces, so we really put "fare la scarpetta" to work with our bread. Some standouts that we all loved were the langoustine with sweetbread and the eggplant with miso. The atmosphere was cozy and made us reluctant to leave at the end. Thank you, Gertrude, for an amazing dinner. We'll definitely be back!

We were seated outdoors on their charming terrace, facing the street, which is jammed with fun street-side restaurants. Plenty of people watching! We were having a great time and it was clear that the rest of the guests were, too. It felt like a chic and delightful party. The absolute highlight of our meal was the fresh French artichoke, which was nearly as big as my head. That I could have one served to me this minute! It was the BEST I have ever had, and I'm crazy about artichokes. Lamentably, it was served with a bland mayonnaise (or was it a bland Hollandaise?), while it was begging for something acidic (artichokes are alkaline in flavor), so I asked for a vinaigrette. They brought me the mignonette sauce for oysters, instead. Better, but not much. Everything else I sampled was good, but I would go back many times over and simply gorge on artichokes. So would everybody else, from what I could see. Every single table ordered one or more. Gertrude's encourages family-style sharing, and the focus is on dishes that showcase the flavors of a few simple ingredients. There is room for improvement. With just a few tweaks, this place might deserve a Michelin star.

Explore everything here! We came to Dutch Delicacy on pure accident, as we were walking around and saw that they had a ton of different goudas for sale. In the front part of the store is a take-out counter where they sell hot items, like sandwiches and baked pastries and desserts, like cheesecakes and cookies the size of your face! It all looked appealing and would've totally purchased a food item, had we not had lunch beforehand. Throughout the store were the cheese samples of the many different various kinds. It goes beyond what you thought gouda could be. There are sheep's and goat's cheeses for many of the different types. There are pesto cheeses that come in different colors like a bright blue and pink. There are cheeses that pair well with the dips that had me thinking about my next dinner party. There's Dutch chocolate here for sale. There's different knives for cutting cheese. There's truly everything here you could imagine for your gouda-filled meal. Staff was super friendly and asked if we needed any help or wanted to know more about any of the different cheeses. For sale, a lot of the goudas are pre-packaged for a pound and meets airline security measures for taking it home with you. I'm glad we stumbled upon Dutch Delicacy. We were able to try so many different cheeses, which I found a few for home. I recommend for anyone visiting Amsterdam to make a stop here; there's a lot of items you'll want to take home with you.
