Being a Brooklyn native I have long been aware of Moshood and passed by his Fort Greene location plenty of times. Although not being one at that time to wear African print, I always admired his designs and the pride I would see in the people wearing them. Having his store become a part of Restoration Plaza was been a delight to see as Restoration has been a solid pillar of the the Bedford-Stuyvesant community for generations. As part of my efforts to spend more of my dollars within my community, I decided to finally purchase a Moshood creation and bought a mask. An unfortunate necessity of the times, but a perfect opportunity to support his business. I met Moshood when I entered his shop and like most if not all people can attest to, he is a very friendly and welcoming person. He definitely engages in a manner which makes coming into his store more than just a business transaction. The mask I bought is a great looking design and has received numerous compliments. Its quality also make the price more than worth it. My only disappointment is that the mask is a bit tighter than is comfortable for my face. I was hoping that it would stretch a bit over time but it hasn't seemed to do so yet. I guess that's also a testament to the material's quality and durability. Making the ear loops a little longer would be best for extended wearing. I'm still going to get another pattern though. All in all, a perfect addition to the Restoration Plaza and to Bed-Stuy. I brought back some fabric from Accra and I'll be taking it to Moshood for a dashiki and a matching mask. I look forward to his shop being an even more prominent fixture in the years to come. read more

Moshood won't let you down. As an African I wanted to see a larger variety of fabrics and materials. Majority of the store is decked in linen but I must say I was impressed with the simplicity yet adequacy of the items in this store. Not overdone, no attempt to be pretentious. The owner and staff are very friendly. We laughed the entire time I was in the store, they both made every effort to cater to my specific need. I had to be in Michigan for a concert and because I had lost a lot of weight over the past few years I needed something that looked right. It was all last minute so I hopped to Brooklyn from Manhattan just to grab whatever I could find but yelp helped me find Moshood. If you are African you know we don't just throw something on, its gotta look right and fit the event. I was going to be on stage singing so this outfit would be literally front and center because I stand 6.4" in the center of a singing group. The outfit worked better than I expected. I was pleased and so were my friends and fans. Thanks Moshood. I think I'll be back for the white one. If you want something specific made it can be made with no problem. If you can dream it Moshood can achive it. If your really lucky you might me Moshood himself. This business is nothing as described online. Very limited selection. Absolutely no customer service. The one sales person/owner or whoever that was behind the counter never moved. I asked for a top to match a skirt and he simply said oh we can find something to go with it. Yet he did not move an inch. After being ignored for another 15 minutes I left. I drove 45 minutes because of the website and reviews on yelp. It was a total waste of 45 minutes. Yelp needs an option for zero stars. read more

Moshood is the goat. He has a history in African fashion. He's a very nice guy, welcoming, and client centered. The clothes are hand made with great quality. These clothes are cheap at all but they're worth to spend for an investment. I look forward to seeing more clothes when this pandemic is over. read more

Very, very nice fashions- all African themed, and most are contemporary. Nice shop, and GREAT photos on the walls. I would LOVE to be able to buy a piece or two here. However, I'll have to save a few paychecks to do so. The clothes are WAAAAAAY OVERPRICED. Ridiculously so. SUPREMELY, RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Really. I love the clothes! Today, I'm wearing a dress I bought in 2003. I have already received four compliments on the dress and it's only 1:00 pm. The lines are clean, great fabric and well made. When you buy a Moshood, you know you're styling and going to look good. So it wouldn't make sense for him to all other people to use the Moshood' "label" on home made clothes. Allowing others to use his label would dilute his brand completely. The fourth woman commented on the "brand". She too, loves Moshood. I agree, depending on your expensive, the line may seem pricey. I love this place the cloths are unique and easy to wear. If something dose not fit you they will make one for you. As for the price if you live check to check and cant find a clothing item in your closet that cost more than $100 buck or think Walmart and Target is top shelf clothing store. I was trying to figure out what should I wear for my upcoming graduation and here my co-worker walks in with a show stopper outfit. I seen the emblem and immediately recognized it as Moshood. I checked the website and seen an outfit I wanted (Linen top and an A-Line Skirt) and the best part...it was in my size. =)) The total price of the outfit was in my price range (thank goodness). I went to Moshood on a humid Saturday morning, I was greeted by Moshood with his pleasant demeanor. I talked to him freely about what I wanted and what I wanted it for, he more than willing to help and I tried an outfit (but could not fit all the way, so he measured me (I have never been measured for anything in my life). I placed the order on Saturday and the outfit was done on Tuesday. I want more outfits from Moshood great customer service and nice custom made outfits are so hard to find. I will be back. My only small gripe is that I wish Moshood had more colors in dresses and shirts. read more

I discovered Moshood Creations accidentally: I walked along a part of Fulton that was off my personal beaten track and saw a bag in the window that was so striking I backtracked a few times to stare at it, then I decided I ought to step into the store and check it out. The items here are distinctive, relevant, whimsical and well-made but some are a little over-priced. The latter may be due to the sudden change in the gentrification that has increased the rents for businesses in the area but I'm only guessing. Stopped by to shop for a few items before going on a trip overseas. Aside from the high-quality and attractive clothing, the place has a unique vibe that can only be felt in local shops. I've written a lot of reviews. I've reviewed concerts, restaurants and stores. I've warned and extolled. I have never written about an experience like the following. I guess the best way to do this is just to tell you what happened. I am getting married on October 2, 2010. Our celebration is Festive Casual Attire. As the groom, I really wanted to wear African clothing. There is nothing that celebrates like African clothing. Like African music, it extols joy. I got a recommendation for Moshood Creations in Brooklyn. I live in Boston so I went to their website: I saw a few things I really liked. In fact, I was having trouble deciding. By way of full disclosure, I am a white dude. A very big, white dude with a very big bald head. I love bright colors. I was having a tremendous amount of difficulty deciding if I should go with my favorite color, orange, and risk looking like a 240 lb. pumpkin or going with the color of royalty: purple. I was having trouble deciding between pants and a dashiki or a grand buba (essentially an African poncho). I couldn't afford all three. The pants and dashikis are $75 each and the grand buba is $95. The reason that I am going through all this detail is that I went through all this with the people at Moshood over several phone calls. I even placed an order and immediately changed my mind. They were patient and even called me to double check and tell me a certain color was unavailable. Ok, so I got the order: A purple dashiki and purple linen pants. BUT.... They included a complimentary grand buba and hat!!! Ok, am I clear here? THEY GAVE ME A GIFT WORTH OVER $100 ON A $150 ORDER!!!!!! I am totally blown away. All I can think of is that they knew it was my wedding and/or were touched by a white dude from Boston wanting African garb for his wedding. The only thing that I can think of doing to show my appreciation is to sing their praises all over the web. Have you ever experienced such an example of generosity with people you have never met??? My favorite spot for my Afro gear in the world. I got back 30 yrs in the beginning with no store,just a duffle bag and a smile. Fashion shows and where ever, he is a great person and has earn the respect of all. One of the first designer I know to create beautiful fashion for the full figure woman. Moshood is a business that treats all its customers like family. Their designs are African inspired (Nigeria to be exact) worn by celebrity and people from all works of life. The customers enjoy a warm friendly atmosphere while shopping and you get to try anything on before you buy it also alterations are done on site to your taste if you need it. I've known Moshood all of my life. He is such a great guy, kind and friendly. As a kid he would always give me free clothes.

I don't think the clothes are overpriced, if you can't afford the place...don't go. They even have a clearance rack! The clothes are beautiful, but you have to have the swag and confidence to pull them off. I visited the store while on vacation from Oakland and met the owner. I have been a fan and customer of Moshood since the 90's. I noticed they were making their famous color tees again and decided to order two of them. Each tee was about $40.00. I received my order and one shirt had a blue ink stain on it. I called the store and sent it back. I received my new shirt in a few days, wore both tee shirts, washed them and then the screen print on both shirts started to come off. I called the store again and had a conversation with the owner. I wanted to give Moshood one more chance to get it right. After a few weeks I got a call that a new batch was on the way with an extra tee for my troubles. I got the package and wore one tee ASAP for a fashion event. Washed it and the exact same thing happened. The ink cracked and some of it washed away. At this point it's not even about the money anymore, I'm just highly disappointed trying to support a home grown Brooklyn store and got nothing but over priced damaged tee shirts. They were very pleasant and did follow up calls, but that doesn't help the fact that I spent close to $100.00 and got badly made product. Being from the East Coast and in the fashion industry I write this with a heavy heart. If you can not even make a decent one color tee shirt, then everything else you make must be poorly made too.
