Came in on a Friday night as a larger party of 8. My friends and I agreed the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant felt like we were in a boat! It was charming and dimly lit, but in the right places. We were directed to two 4-top tables and asked if we could push the tables together, and our server was so friendly and kind about it! I didn't catch their name, but they were pleasant and energetic throughout. I will say that they did not check in with us as much, but I've worked in food service before and understand how busy it was!
Moru is BYOB, but they also seem to have a deal of some sort with a nearby liquor store, as there was a menu & number you could call to have some liquor delivered straight to your table! So nice when you haven't had the time to pick something up, but our party was hoping the server could've recommended something to pair our meal with rather than just tell us to call the store.
Onto food! We started with the cucumber seaweed salad, tuna tataki, salmon avocado tartare, beef tartare, and a Berkshire sausage & rice cake kushi-age.
The cucumber seaweed salad was slightly acidic and a delightful mix of crunchy textures.
The tuna tataki was decent, but I prefer my sauce slightly more citrusy. Glad I tried it but probably won't get it again next time.
I'm allergic to salmon, so unfortunately couldn't partake in the sampling of that.
I always love a good beef tartare, but seeing as this is a Korean & Japanese fusion restaurant of sorts, I ordered this expecting something closer to yukhoe. I wasn't getting any miso as the menu suggests. It was still delicious and worth a try nonetheless.
The sausage & rice cake skewer's flavor was like many others I've tried and made, standard with no faults. You really can't go wrong with this dish as a whole. Crisp outside & chewy inside the rice cake paired with a snappy & salty Berkshire pork sausage with sweet & spicy sauce...
We also shared the creamy rock shrimp and sweaweed uni pasta which were the most underwhelming dishes in my opinion. The shrimp were sizeable and meaty, but I didn't taste any lemon as the menu described and felt it was just sweet. Perhaps serving a fresh lemon slice on the side would be a good idea! As for the uni pasta, it is served cold and was a bit plain but the uni was fresh. If you like uni, I'd try it at least once. I will be asking next time if I can add on extra uni
I ordered a handroll set with the blue crab, creamy scallop, negi toro, and wagyu. My favorite by far was the creamy scallop. The wagyu handroll was nice, but just know it's a very thin slice of wagyu! I'll probably be trying other handrolls next visit to find more of my favorites.
My friends also shared the seiromushi and kimchi donkatsu nabe, which I unfortunately did not try as I was too far away (haha) and was getting full! They looked delicous and I'll be sure to try those myself.
Overall, I had a pleasant experience and I'd love to visit again and look forward to seeing where Moru goes since it's newly opened. I'm a fan! read more
