I think in every city, there are things they are known for or things that are just iconic about the…read morecity and are truly spots you must visit in order to fully get a true picture of the soul of that city. In Sacramento when one brings up the golfing scene, the true mecca of golf in Sacramento begins and ends with Haggin Oaks Golf complex and Driving Range. In this review I wanna talk specifically about the driving range. My history with this range goes back pretty far,all the way back to 1996 when I moved to Sacramento from the Bay Area and didn't know a soul-so after work, especially on weekends with not much to do,I spent many a Friday and Saturday nights at the Haggin Oaks Driving Range working tirelessly on trying to perfect this game that is truly impossible to perfect. Over the years many things have changed at this range but a lot of very important things have remained the same, including a quality practice facility with well maintained mats and tees, along with quality balls to use when practicing at this location. Some of my favorite things today that they have that for sure didn't exist back in the 90s is the Top Tracer displays available at every practice stall which provides you with endless options for however you want to practice-be it golf games or serious data tracking to evaluate how far and straight you're hitting the golf ball. This facility is extremely popular,I would say it's the most popular range in Sacramento-if you come here on any random Friday or Saturday,no matter the hours,I guarantee this place will be packed, though there are so many practice stalls available,a spot will open up pretty quickly. Another thing I love about this spot is the ability to try out clubs in the pro shop before you buy them for free-you just go into the pro shop and find a club you want to try, then register with the pro shop guy and then just take the club out to the range for a quick practice session before deciding on purchasing the golf club. Haggin Oaks also has both a food truck on the premises and a bar stand where one can buy various alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy while working on your craft. Personally I've never bought any food from the truck but I do see people rave about the quality of their food offerings. This facility also has 3 separate putting greens one can use to practice their putting game-along with a separate area one can use to work on their chipping skills for free. I will admit this place isn't the cheapest place in the area to practice when it comes to the price of the balls, but I would say their prices are competitive with most golf courses and when you include the quality of this facility,I would say Haggin Oaks is unmatched. 25 balls cost around $6,while a large bucket of 100 balls run around $22. In closing-if the idea of trying out this game I love so much has ever crossed your mind and you want to come to a family friendly, skill friendly, wallet friendly environment-Haggin Oaks is your spot. Come on out and try this beautiful game of ours called golf.

I want to start by saying that Haggin Oaks Golf Course and its facilities are fantastic. The…read moregrounds, range, and overall experience of being at the course are excellent. I truly enjoy being there. However, the quality and professionalism of some of the golf instruction staff need serious attention. I've participated in multiple group classes and had experiences with at least three older male instructors. While I respect their years of experience and knowledge of the game, the teaching environment has often felt outdated and, at times, inappropriate. There have been repeated "good old boys" style jokes, dismissive comments, and remarks directed toward women that felt unnecessary and unprofessional. One instructor, Don Pottle, even told several of us that he would "cut off our hands" if we held the club the wrong way again. While I understand that this may have been intended as humor, comments like that create an uncomfortable and intimidating learning environment -- especially for newer golfers. Golf is evolving. The culture of the sport is becoming more inclusive, welcoming, and diverse. Instruction should reflect that shift. Many new players -- especially women and younger golfers -- are looking for knowledgeable coaches who can teach effectively without relying on outdated humor or intimidation tactics. Haggin Oaks has an opportunity to lead in this area. Expanding the instructional staff to include more women and younger instructors, or investing in professional development around inclusive coaching, would make a significant difference. The facilities are great. The teaching culture just needs to catch up with the times.

This was just a quick stop before a comedy show with friends, nothing serious... or so I thought. At first glance I'm like ehh, maybe not today. Then I slow it down, start actually looking, and boom--same shoes I've seen online for $150 just sitting there for $40. That's when the mission changed real quick. Next thing you know, I'm stacking boxes like I'm prepping for a season, not a night out. I pass a guy holding six pairs and think "that's wild"... then I catch myself with three like hold up, I'm not much better . That's the kind of place this is--you go in casual and leave doing math you didn't plan on doing. Deals just keep popping up if you take your time and dig a little. Gotta give credit to the crew too. Everyone was polite, easygoing, and helpful without hovering. And the checkout? Moved faster than a NASCAR pit stop, no exaggeration. In and out with bags in hand and still made it to the comedy show on time. Yeah... I'll definitely be back.

I don't think I have ever been without seeing a reseller walking around. Bags filled with shoes. But I think that shows they have good shoes and good prices. Recently picked up some Jordan cleats. They were just released and at Dick's for $165. And we picked them up at The Nike Clearance store for $80. Staff is always nice. So consider checking it out.

This is such a beautiful, peaceful, and tranquil golf course…read more Growing up in Carmichael, Ancil Hoffman Golf Course was the jewel of the community. And it still is. Thankfully. It has been lovingly taken care of and highly maintained to its present day perfect state of being in my opinion. Golfing at Ancil is truly a walk (or golf cart ride) along side nature and beauty. Having sooo many relatives and friends who call Ancil Golf their home course is no coincidence. They all love the Ancil history, appreciate the landscape of the course and yes the competitive spirit of the game. I have had the pleasure of walking the incredible fairways and being a ride-a-long with many a golfer. So I know the special nuisances and ambiance of the course. I was recently reminded, again, how blessed the Carmichael community is to have Ancil Hoffman Golf Course as their own very special place of joy! I returned to Ancil recently to purchase a gift card as a Christmas gift. Even though it was cold the sun was shining and the golfers were out in numbers. Turkeys and deer grazing about. And amazingly... I saw a flock of magpies flying from tree to tree. Such rare birds since the Nile virus took its toll. Made my day! The Golf Shop employees are such welcoming and professional people. I think Sam helped me with my transaction. Friendly, engaging and helpful. He thanked me for supporting Ancil Hoffman with my purchase. That is amazing! A thing of beauty is a joy forever certainly applies to Ancil Hoffman Golf Course. Come and enjoy!

The holes were challenging just enough for myself (novice golfer), lined with trees, great tee boxes and not a lot of areas to lose balls. Which helps my game. First thing first,I like this golf course. This golf course has an exact purpose and it fills that…read morepurpose perfectly. This golf course is for beginners-In my lifetime I have probably taken 10 different golfers who had never played a round on a course or maybe even never even touched a golf club before.Thats what this place is here for and I love it. Recently my son wanted to finally play a real round of golf and though he has been to the driving range many times over the years,he has never actually played a round,so when he told me that,I knew exactly where we were headed-we went to Foothill Golf Course in Citrus Heights. We showed up around 930a on a random weekday and it was empty minus a player or 2 at the far reaches of the course. So we paid our green fees of $20 each and were told to go ahead and tee off whenever we were ready. That $20 gives u access to play 9 holes at this short par 3 course and if u want and there are openings you can pay another $7 to play another 9 holes. This is a true no frills golf course-they have an area you can practice putting but that's about it,no driving range,no chipping area, and it's perfect that way-it's just a course you go to when you want to introduce someone to golf in a judgment free spot, etiquette can be taught but people aren't hung up on it here,it's a place where the love of the game can be born and I'm happy it exists. So if you are ever looking for a spot to take a new golfer in your life or maybe you want to try golf for the 1st time,I would fully recommend this golf course to give our lovely sport a shot-u never know,u might love it.

October 4, 2025. The…read moremorning started perfectly -- my mood, just like the weather in Sacramento, was phenomenal and full of positivity. Everything was going great... until I went to the Big 5 store on Elkhorn Blvd. At first, the saleswoman was polite, but after she called the manager to handle the return of a defective inflatable mattress, the situation changed completely. The manager was extremely rude and disrespectful -- he kept snorting, interrupting, speaking in an irritated tone, and showing open aggression. I couldn't argue or raise my voice -- my English isn't strong enough for that, which can easily be confirmed by the store's security cameras. So I calmly and respectfully called my daughter to help explain the situation over the phone. The manager spoke to her rudely and irritably, getting upset when she referred to the official Big 5 website, where the return policy is clearly stated differently from what he claimed. He even tried to intimidate me by threatening to call the police, as if the police were some kind of punishment force that would come and "throw me out of the store." I never raised my voice, never acted rude or aggressive -- I was simply trying to return a defective item, staying calm and respectful the entire time. In the end, the manager grabbed the box with the mattress, carried it outside, and ordered me to leave the store. I was completely shocked by this treatment. I never expected that a well-known retail chain like Big 5 could allow such behavior toward a customer. I sincerely hope that the company's management reviews the security footage, investigates this incident, and ensures that such behavior never happens again. Im really interested to see if the same behavior continues from that manager and if anything action will be taken towards stoping it.
