I have to say that after reading the reviews posted I was a bit skeptical about making an appointment. I was delighted that when I called I was able to get in the same week. The exam process was explained to me by the scheduler and I was told to allow at least an hour and a half as they will be doing a full vision and and medical exam of my eyes. This seemed reasonable to me as I had just spent 2 and half hours at the MD getting my annual physical. When I arrived the staff was friendly and efficient, my insurance benefits were explained to me in detail and I was taken back by a tech to do the vision portion of my exam and to be dilated. At this point, because of my family history of glaucoma and macular degeneration, they took some scans and images of the inside of my eyes. This took about 20-25 mins for the "vision portion" of my exam. It was explained to me that the dilation drops take about 15-20 mins and that while I was dilating, an optician would explain my new vision prescription and give me my options for glasses or contacts. After purchasing my contacts, I waited in the waiting area another 10 mins before the Dr. came out. The "medical exam" consisted of the Dr. going over my eye scans and images with me (which was interesting to see), looking at the inside of my eyes for any signs of disease, and making recommendations for nutritional guidelines to ward off my family history of macular degeneration. I felt the Dr. really cared about my eye health. From check in to check out my visit took 1hr and 20 mins. I think that it was well worth my time as I feel like I got my money's worth and wasn't rushed in and out. For those who are looking for a quick and easy contact lens prescription or glasses, go to Costco, but for anyone with a family history of eye disease or who wants to know that their eyes are really being taken care of go to Morris Eye Group! read more

I was referred to Morris Eye Group by my Primary Care Physician due to my recent diagnosis of Type2 Diabetes. I waited until my referral had almost expired to try to get an appointment and they were able to accommodate me. I found the reception staff pleasant and inviting. I had been advised when I made my appointment and reminded when they called to confirm that my visit would be approximately 2 hours. Shortly after I completed the paperwork, I was taken to the first "station" where the standard test were performed by a pleasant and knowledgeable woman. Upon completion I was escorted back to the lobby and was told I would be going on to have the next set of tests performed shortly. I only waited a few minutes when another very nice and professional woman came and performed her exams. Once again returned to the lobby and then a woman from the frame/contacts office looked over the recommendations and confirmed the previous decisions that my prescription was current ( I had just gotten new glasses a couple of months ago). My longest wait time was for Dr. Katzman and that wasn't long. He explained thoroughly how Diabetes effects vision and that my eyes looked good. I had some questions about LASIK vision correction. I am not a good candidate but would greatly benignity from lens replacement. I don't have cataracts yet so insurance won't pay for it. I had questioned him about self pay and he checked with his staff to find out the self pay costs. This office visit made me feel important and that they truly cared about my eye health. I liked that I met with several of the staff members and will not only return but highly recommend to my friends and family that they take their eye health needs to Dr. Lee Katzman and his lovely staff!!! read more

This place is great. Don't listen to the disgruntled people complaining on here. If you have ever been to a doctors office before you will know when you walk in here, this is one of the best. They are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Everyone from the check-in to the doctors are top notch. For those complaining about wait time- there is a reason- they are the best! If everyone wanted to go to the best restaurant in town, don't you think there might be a wait?? However, I rarely have a LONG wait here and when I do it's because my eyes are dilating and need to be dilated before I see the doctor. With the advent of the internet people seem to always be in a hurry and want everything at their fingertips- sometimes good things take time. I wouldn't want my doctor to feel rushed when taking care of me- they have a big responsibility to get everything done correctly and I would rather have that happen then rush through an appointment. They even have the Food Network playing to entertain you and tons of magazines. They also have a huge selection of glasses so if you do have a wait- just shop! Dr. Morris is big on technology and always has the latest and greatest ways to help detect eye disease and has actually PREVENTED me from having further progression with my eye disease. How about that, prevention rather than trying to fix things down the road once it is too late! I would say if you are looking for a place that is friendly, up to date, and knows what they are doing- this is the place for you. read more

Arrived early for an appointment, the door to the office was closed, and a sign was posted out front. The sign read "Call if you don't have an appointment." I observed one of the employees calling a patient in to the office and the door closed again. I followed the instructions on the sign, and sat down in the elevator / lobby area. I patiently waited in the lobby for 40 minutes (no exaggeration.) I fully realize that they're swamped with everyone trying to maximize their insurance before the end of the year. Instead of them making it up, they told me I could not be seen today. I elected to take the last seat in the lobby because the hallway was jammed with patients without proper delineation on the floor to observe the established 6 feet social distancing protocol. I confirmed the appointment via text on Saturday, so there shouldn't of been any confusion as to if I was going to show up. The staff was good about coming out to clean the arms on the chairs in the lobby room but "comprehensive eye care" is lacking communication and proper signage. Staff, it would be a great idea to check to see if the patients waiting in the lobby have an appointment before moving on to the next person or out right canceling their appointment they made a year ago. I get that you can get away with having bad signage at an eye place, you expect people not to "see" it. Please "see" to it, that you update your signage: "Appointment only, Check-in here. No, appointment? Call ... ... ...." It could go a long way! read more

Well my first review got buried because the dang internet connection died and I didn't know it, what a waste of time, so nowl, I'm going to leave a real brief review, lol. Today was my initial intake, everything went smooth, these health care people are real professionals, friendly, informative about the procedures they preform, and the general costs associated with each procedure from laser surgery to the basic surgery, depending on what you can afford. I actually am having the VA pay for mine through the CHOICE PROGRAM, and I'm very thankful that the VA is going to foot the cost for removing my cataracts. The office is nicely laid out, with soothing colors of blueish and greenish background on the walls holding the different frames. Met Dr. Morris, very nice fellow, and he has set me up with one of his best surgeons Dr. Katzman. Ive read some of the other reviews, the ones that are negative, they were yakking about either there HMO or some other Insurance that didn't inform of what information was needed and other stuff, basically they were WHINERS at best. Not one of them talked about how bad the surgeries went or the Doctors who preformed them, most of the reviews were statements of being satisfied with the work done on them. I'm looking forward to getting rid of this cataract in my right eye, that is, having the lens replaced and get back to seeing clearly again. I am not connected to Morris Eye Group in any way nor am I receiving any compensation for my review. I had the good fortune to have been seen by Dr. Ardalan Aminlari as a walk in new patient. I have avoided cataract surgery for over 12 years as I had a very bad experience at my first cataract approximately 14 years ago. Dr. Aminlari put me at ease immediately plus listened to my complaint of severe sensitivity to eye drops used at regular exams. This was one of the reasons I seeking a new practitioner. He not only solved that problem and has made subsequent visits so much more comfortable. In addition he recommended laser surgery for my very dense right eye cataract and performed the procedure masterfully and delivered a stunning success. I am extremely happy with my results and with Dr. Aminilari and highly recommend him not only for his skill as a surgeon but for his ability to instill confidence and dispel fears and at same time answer all questions of risk. I found the technicians in both the Encinitas office and the Vista office professional and experienced. I am giving a 5 star review in spite of some clerical staff that at times i felt good have used better judgement regarding logistics and planning of availability. Perhaps a more thorough orientation and more knowledge of purpose would help make clerical (front desk) run more smoothly and without undue waiting. Yesterday my visit with the Morris Eye clinic and for the past many years have been very rewarding. Every tech I was assigned to were well trained and proficient. Later I got to see Dr. Butler for my final exam and progress report. Remarkable woman, Dr. Ashley Butler, as I can talk with her on a more professional level. I spent 29 years calling on Doctors for a pharmaceutical company and learned much through the years. I never studied vision but Dr. Butler made it much easier to grasp what was going on with my eyes. She would show me the computer images and explain what each one meant and how the healing progress was progressing through the past years as a patient. I am 86 years young and take no RX meds. My Sister is now living with me, as both our mates have passed. Her father in Law was a Master Chief and she was trained in cooking & using spices to enhance the flavor of of the meals she cooked. My sister cooks recipes from most countries throughout the world. This gives a great variety of food that she cooks for us each meal. Good food helps build a healthy body! With proper nutrition and well trained Physicians, mankind can now live into their 100's. I will be around well into my 90's +. I am Blessed in so many ways. I just had cataract surgery and the new Tecnis Multifocal IOL from Dr. Morris and Dr. Ku. The experience was absolutely the best it could be. I agree that Morris' "process" is a little cumbersome for regular eye appointments...getting different eye tests/exams from multiple technicians, etc...but getting the best laser and lens implants is much more important to me than saving a little time. And while the pre-op and post-op Morris "process" can be lengthy, the fact that they are so careful and want to make sure they understand their patient's needs completely is more than worth it. I did the research and Morris is not more expensive than their competitors and they do have the latest and most expensive equipment. All of my friends who have had cataract surgery have the Crystal lens because their eye doctors do not offer the Tecnis Multifocal. These friends are still using glasses to read. The surgery center on site in Encinitas is also awesome and go out of their way to make patients feel comfortable and confident. Just an example...I was very nervous on the first eye and consequently a little cold while I waited to go into surgery. The nurses hooked me up to a heated blanket even though I only waited about ten minutes. I am completely satisfied and for the first time in 52 years I can see distance, mid-range and read the paper without glasses or contacts. It's life changing! read more

I just moved to San Diego and have been wearing glasses and contacts for years. I was referred by my primary care doctor to Morris Eye for an exam and after reading the reviews, I was a bit worried about what I might experience... Although I've rarely ever been to any doctors office that runs on time, or where I've gotten in and out under an hour. Isn't that just how doctors offices are? I was completely blown away by how knowledgable and thourough the staff and doctors were. I had no idea so much technology was available for an eye exam and really appreciated the staff explaining the tests they were doing and what they're for. The doctor explained my prescription to me, the health of my eye, and recommended some drops that might help with the dryness I've been having. She was so friendly! I've been to doctors who shuffle you in and out, and I appreciated the time she took to understand the problems I'm having with my vision and the recommendations she made. I was able to meet with someone about my glasses prescription that day, and they were able to check my benefits through my insurance at the office! I've always had to call my insurance myself, and really appreciated them looking into it for me! The girl who helped me was so great at finding a frame that was fashionable and flattering! We went to Morris Eye Group (Vista Location) for the first time this week and I do not think I have ever had a more lovely experience in a medical office of any kind. My husband and I initially went in to pick out some new glasses. Michael was a tremendous help to us. He helped us find exactly what we were looking for in terms of frames and then made sure we got the maximum benefits from our insurance. The customer service we received from him was impeccable. We were so satisfied with our experience that we made an appointment for our 6 year old son the following day. I did not catch the name of the technician who did his pre appointment screening but, he did a wonderful job making my son feel comfortable through the whole process including eye dilation. His appointment was with Dr. Codner. Dr. Codner was kind, funny and patient. He listened to all of our concerns, answered every question and was also very through in the examination he gave our son. We did discover that he needs to get some glasses so after his appointment Michael helped us get him set up with a pair of glasses for him as well. Once again we were very pleased with the assistance we were given. From check in to check out every staff person we came in contact with was amazing. I wish I could give more than 5 stars! Everyone I interacted with at Morris Eye Group was friendly, courteous, and professional. I was immediately comfortable at Morris Eye Group, but I knew I made the right decision for my LASIK surgery when two staff members told me that they wouldn't trust their eyes to anyone more than Dr. Katzman. So far, I have had my LASIK consultation, pre-op appointment, surgery, and one-day post-op appointment. At every visit, I met with Dr. Katzman and had the chance to ask any and all of my questions. I never felt rushed or dismissed. On the contrary, I always felt valued and respected. I also interacted a lot with Brittney Kilian, who was in my corner every step of the way making sure I felt comfortable and that I had all of the information I needed. On the day of my surgery, everyone went out of their way to ensure patient comfort, including providing freshly baked cookies! I'm extremely satisfied with the process and results of my surgery. The procedure and post-op went exactly as it was described to me. Also, there were no hidden fees. I paid one lump sum that covered all of my pre-op, surgical, and post-op care (for one year), including eye drops. I'm glad I found Morris Eye Group, and I will be making sure all of my family and friends go to them for LASIK too! read more

I have been a customer at Morris Eye Group for more than two years, being treated for glaucoma and progressively diminishing visual acuity. My experience at Morris Eye Group has been hugely satisfying. Over the years, my observation is that the administrative staff is well trained, treating customers with dignity and respect, actively listening to our concerns. I needed to get my elderly mother in for some kind of eye exam quickly because it seemed a vision problem might be impairing her ability to participate in physical and occupational therapy, but wasn't sure what kind she needed. The woman who answered the phone for the Morris Eye Group patiently listened to me trying to explain why I wasn't sure what I needed, asked if I'd hold, so she could check with one of the technicians, and then not only got back to tell me what they thought, but got me an appointment at lunch time the very next day!!!! Two different technicians did the various machine-aided tests -- not easy when your patients is elderly and in a wheel chair -- and were super nice and cheerful, encouraging and praising my mother -- and they got very good test results. Then Dr. Katzman saw her, told me her close vision was really bad, told me she could use 2.0 reading glasses from the dollar store, and then spent some time telling me what kinds of issues might be causing her physical symptoms of being afraid to bend over or to stand up. It was very interesting. He also gave me a referral to a neuro-opthalmologist, who could check for those kinds of issues. Tomorrow will be one week since Dr. Aminlari corrected my 2nd eye (cataract removal + lens implant) and five weeks for the 1st eye. My cataracts, farsightedness and astigmatism were all eliminated with state-of-the-art laser surgery and the latest multi-focal lens implants available. I believe that my brain is still making software adjustments to the new hardware, but the overall result is phenomenal distance vision, excellent mid-range acuity and pretty much what we hoped for up close. I have resisted the temptation to put on weak "readers" to look at my text messages and I am typing this note on my laptop (small font) with no eye strain felt (and no contact lenses or glasses after 35 years!!). My narrow angles presented a challenge, but Dr. Aminlari and I discussed our agreed upon goals for improving my vision ahead of time and how to achieve them. This was Mission Accomplished! Yesterday was my first visit to Morris Eye Group in Vista CA and what a pleasant surprise. Upon arriving I had no wait just filled out a few forms and my exam began. Abe was very thorough and didn't waste his time or mine. He spotted something of concern and immediately stopped and consulted with the doctor before he proceeded with the exam. Dr. Marianna Samuels saw me next and explained everything as she did her first portion of her exam. Then I was handed off to Shannon who took pictures of the inner workings of my eyes. Then Dr. Samuels concludes my exam and gives me a very thorough explanation of the changes in my vision and the health of my eyes. She made a referral for a another examination of a condition she thought worthy of further review. My overall impression of Morris Eye Group could not be topped. From the time I walked in the door and throughout my very comprehensive exam, I was treated with respect, professionalism, compassion and friendliness. This was my first visit with MEG and I must say it was very positive. I had an emergency vision issue so I contacted MEG as they were recommended by a retinal specialist in Carlsbad (through a friend of mine). MEG was able to get me in for a same-day appointment within an hour of my call. The office is extremely neat, organized and the ambience gave me a sense of comfort. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. Once checked in, I proceeded through three stages of contact with different levels of service. First was with Abe G. who was super funny, yet knowledgeable and proficient with his portion of the initial testing. Then I saw a nice young lady (don't recall her name) who took photos of my eyes; she was equally professional and approachable. Finally, I met with Dr. Katzman who was beyond helpful, informative and made me feel as though I'd been a patient for quite some time. He explained what was going on with my vision and at the end of my visit, I determined that my choice of provider was the best I could have made. Dr. Morris is an excellent ophthalmologist. He has a gift for hiring extremely pleasant and competent staff. You usually get one or the other elsewhere. The office is well organized, as up-to-date as they get, and the service is worth the wait. I have had multiple surgeries and conditions affecting both of my eyes and I feel blessed to have selected The Morris Eye Group as my primary eye care office. There is usually a "no wait time", however there are occasions where there is a longer than usual wait. However, if you were ever unfortunate enough to have an "eye emergency" you would appreciate the wait knowing that they were more than likely facilitating an emergent appointment for someone who needed it. I have been one of those people and I appreciate the inconvenience someone else had to endure to have my needs met. You do NOT see people sitting around having long personal conversations, etc. If I had to guess I would think the people who were extremely upset and irritated and gave the bad ratings were "those kind of people who are never happy and always have something to complain about", but that is just my opinion. read more

I was referred to The Morris Group by my PCP for a followup on an orbital avulsion fracture after a fall. I was pleasantly surprised to learn The Morris Group was in network for my eye insurance, which primarily covers doc in a box type shops. However, after reading some of the posts here and having signed the requisite paper-work agreeing to pay for "uncovered" services, I am now a bit worried what I might be charged. So far, my personal experience with Dr. Aminlari was very positive. Unlike the back office staff who automatically scheduled me for a full "new patient annual" exam, Dr. Aminlari had read my paperwork and did only what was necessary to check on the fracture and eye health post-accident. He told me what to watch out for and to return in 4 weeks to check my eye health again. If his service continues to be as positive as it has been, I may give their optometry practice a try, only because they are in network and my current optometrist, as Excellent as she is, is not. But my prescription is complicated and will be a real test of their and their supplier's capabilities. I will give them a fair chance. read more

After my first cataract surgery on my right eye 11 years ago, it was time for my left eye so I went back to The Morris Eye Group who did an excellent job with my first. Once again the entire staff was pleasant, professional, and very helpful. I was so pleased that Fred once again was the assistant that took all the measurements for correction and checking my eye's health. It says something very positive about a business that has employees with such longevity! While performing his tasks proficiently, he still was warm and engaging. We even discovered that we had mutual friends. I was Dr. Morris' last patient however he didn't rush, took all the time he needed to answer my many questions. Then while I waited to speak to the surgery scheduler, Todd, Dr. Morris stopped and checked to make certain I was being helped. Again, I was Todd's last patient of the day as well and yet I didn't feel rushed. Again he answered all my questions and explained each step of the process. As with everyone, my vision is of the utmost importance and I know without any doubt it is in good hands with The Morris Eye Group. read more
