I unfortunately was unable to find one key ingredient (gochugaru) and so I put my kimchi fermentation dreams on hold. I could've asked around instead I was overwhelmed and gave up. I did grab the viral Japanese fruit ice cream (peach & mango) and well...they were good but I guess I was expecting something more intense. It didn't quite live up to the hype or the $5.99/ea price tag. My friend got the biscoff Dubai chocolate. We should've taken our time but instead we ate too much sugar too quickly and the outcome was not positive. Overall, I enjoyed the adventure and I plan to come back here with a recipe and a list of ingredients!

The owner was very short tempered and not at all pleasant in answering the most basic questions about the products in his store. This is a huge turn off. If I was in the area again, I would stay clear of this little store.

I found this medium sized jackfruit to be a good start for me and the gentleman at the register was extremely helpful in explaining it to me. I've seen YouTube tutorials already but I didn't mind getting more insight. If you've never had this fruit before, it's a must try. For starters, in preparation, please use gloves and any kind of cooking oil before cutting this thing as it's sticky beyond measure. However, once you cut into it, the tropical scents of pineapple and banana hits you hard. This fruit has a lot of health benefits that I'll share after listing the parts of the fruit: first let me say, you can yield about 100-500 pods from one jackfruit depending on size. Mine had about 240 pods.: Costs $1,39lb and mine weighed around 20lbs. The core has a thick, fibrous, central column running down the middle of the fruit. The bulbs or pods aka the yellow, orange fleshy petal-like parts are what you eat. The rags or fibrous strings weaves around and separates the bulbs. This is what many vegans use to make "pulled pork,." The seeds are edible when cooked and have potential antiviral lectins:in as selective inhibitors of viral entry. I'm a clinical researcher ;) Lastly is the latex that is the sticky, white, glue-like sap that oozes out when you cut the fruit. As far as health benefits, this fruit may support heart health, lower cholesterol and blood sugar, fight inflammation and boost immune function. You can put it in smoothies or eat it plainly. Such as the kind we put in our gumbos, or stews, on the shelves. There,s soda called GUINESS" that is to die for.
