Beef pho
Anna C.

Well, this certainly is reminiscent of pho. But it's not. Of course I didn't expect this to be authentic pho anyway. It's exactly what one should expect from a fusion Vietnamese restaurant in a New Orleans airport. Good enough to eat, but not quite enjoy. Service was very lovely though!

Dropped in while at the airport and I'm happy that we did. Seat yourself however, there are waiters to take orders. We both ordered the Chicken Pho and glad that we did. Oh my goodness it was served heat hot with lots of flavor. I could not believe we were at an airport. If you ever in the area of the airport you should check it out.

I had been to New Orleans since 1987 to attend JazzFest until my near death and rebirth in 1999 with Celiac disease about 6-7 times. After I was diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance as a foodie I thought my culinary life was over and one of the many, but not only joys, of going to Nola is the food. I was reluctant to go and then a bit later 20 years ago Katrina hit this great city. When I did return my reluctance of going due to my food restrictions was born out, but the fact that the people in New Orleans fry everything, including water. Besides jambalaya and some fresh fish, I couldn't eat anything. However, due to a friend who was born in New Orleans, grew up in New Orleans and lives half of the year there with her family involved in the restaurant business, Pat introduced me for a number of chefs and one in particular, Michael Gulotta, who modified dishes or even made me specially dishes that were gluten free. Every time I went to New Orleans, I tried to go to his two Vietnamese Cajun restaurants, MoPho and Maypop. Michael Gulotta, chef-owner at Mopho and Maypop was born and raised in New Orleans. Michael began cooking in local restaurants at a young age. After graduating from the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, he joined the newly opened Restaurant August. Gulotta then took leave to train in the Italian Riviera and Germany's Black Forest. When Hurricane Katrina hit, Michael returned home to help rebuild and assist with August's re-opening. He was named chef de cuisine in 2007 and led the award-winning kitchen for six years, while establishing relationships with local farmers and purveyors. He opened his first restaurant, MOPHO, in January of 2014 with his brother, Jeffrey Gulotta, and high-school friend, Jeffrey Bybee. Located in New Orleans' Mid City, MOPHO was a true neighborhood restaurant and a destination for Southeast Asian inspired cuisine utilizing the Louisiana pantry. In its first year MOPHO was nominated for America's Best New Restaurant by Bon Appétit magazine and named Restaurant of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2016 Michael was named one of Top 30 Chefs to Watch in the nation by Plate Magazine, A New Orleans Rising Star by Starchefs, a Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine, and Chef of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2017, his team opened its second full-service restaurant, Maypop, in the Central Business District of New Orleans. Maypop was named a Top 5 Best New Restaurant by The Times Picayune, A Best New Restaurant by New Orleans Magazine, a New Orleans Top 20 Restaurants by Condé Nast Traveler, and a New Orleans' Top Ten Restaurants for 2019, by Brett Anderson. Michael has also been a semifinalist for The James Beard Awards Best Chef South for the past four years. Most recently, his team opened a second MOPHO location in the new Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. On my trip to New Orleans this past May, I was saddened to learn that Michael was closing MoPho and Maypop, casualties of the so difficult business of owning a restaurant I know all too well. After JazzFest one evening on MoPho's second to last day, Pat and I went to pay our respects and I got to thank Michael for his kindness showing me there was culinary life after my diagnosis not only at his restaurant but when he catered the main stage at JazzFest, but he also introduced me to more fusion possibilities which I have incorporated in some of the food I make. On the last day of Maypop, my brother Jeff and I dined at Maypop, Michael's more upscale joint which served delicious food and not to be undone, after both closed on that Sunday in May, I saw the MoPho at the airport right in front of my terminal and gate to fly home and I got the greatest wings on the planet to fly home with: CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS WITH NUOC MAM CARAMEL. I have no idea what exactly that is except Cajun chicken spices with a Vietnamese caramel sauce that is unparalleled in it's flavor, bite and marriage of cultures that was so good Pat would always ask for more on the side. I'm sure Michael will get back in the game at some point but I write this with gratitude to Pat for introducing me to this great Chef and to Chef Gulotta for taking the time to show me what I could eat and what modifications he could make to his food for me.

Chicken bahn mi - spicy and messy but good

This was located right next to our gate. Thank goodness, because if my gate was out of eyesight I would have been very nervous about the timing of it all. We waited a long time for everything including service. There was only one poor server running around taking care of everyone. Once she came around she was very friendly and accommodating but it was impossible for her to keep up with the demand. Food was great - I highly recommend the "sober me up" pho. The egg was perfect and Jammy just how I like it. Broth was flavorful and satisfying, The decor was cute and clean and offered good visibility for gates and signs. I'm hoping things will be less hectic next time, I would like to try it again but not stress about the timing so much.

Sober Pho

Near B6 Gate, sitting in the middle of the walkway. Sit yourself and menus on the table, service was very friendly and passed by regularly. Ordered the Pho Ga, the 2 Poboy/banh mi, and the sober me pho. The pho's weren't traditional by any means, the soup broths were mushroom based than typical broth. Flavors were still good, our son enjoyed the pho ga and the sober me pho was actually really good. My wife enjoyed the spicy sausage but they drastically lacked the veggies across all items. Part of the reason we were looking forward to eating there.

Chicken vindaloo mo mi

Had the vindaloo chicken mo mi. Was a really good sandwich. Wouldn't say it tastes like vindaloo but still a good sandwich. Was tempted to give 3 stars due the my server. She was pretty unfriendly and rude to people. So the 4 stars is strictly for the food.

Two bowls of pho and banh mi

Food was very good and well seasoned. I got pho. The broth had lime added to it that was quite nice. The meat is already cooked but not overcooked and nicely seasoned.

This restaurant is located near gate B6 where most of the southwest flights are departing. We shared one bowl of the beef pho. It's just perfect for a light meal to share it. The beef balls have a nice spicy kick to it and it has a decent amount of beef slices and mushrooms. The soup base also has a nice spiciness to it. Give it a 4 out of 5.

Had a great dinner before my flight. The staff were amazing and so friendly. Really enjoyed the Crispy Chicken Vindaloo Po-Mi. Definitely recommend if you're at the airport.

Spicy sausage banh mi

I only had their banhmi and I thought it was delicious . I don't think this place is authentic though. They threw on spices giving it some Cajun kicks lol

The asian in me made a pit stop cuz i was craving noodle soup. I knew prior to coming here that it was nowhere near authentic. I just needed my asian soup broth!!! You seat yourself and the waitress will come around to get your order. There was only one waitress when I was there so she was running around alot. Be patient. Ordered the beef pho. Again, it's not your authentic pho. But it was what I needed at the moment.

Pho at the airport...... heck yeah. So the price is pretty comparable to what you pay out in town. Little disappointed that they don't have spring rolls or egg rolls, but they have fried green beans. Not to bad with the special MOPHO mayo sauce. The star of the show was the pho, I eat a lot of pho all over the country and world so this got a 4/10 score. Not very flavorful with the provided herbs and had thin-sliced top round, meat balls, mushrooms, and shaved onions. I really enjoyed this dish. The meat balls have a weird texture but I broke them open and the broth in and it wasn't as bad. It is almost like they didn't drain all the water off of the noodles before combining them with the soup. Come and give them a shot you will be happy with a different take on airport food

I ordered the shrimp pho and was pleasantly surprised. The broth was light but still packed with flavor. It didn't feel heavy, but it still hit the spot. They were generous with the shrimp. They were a good size and there were plenty of them. I left full and satisfied. The space itself is cute and tucked into a tiny strip mall, nothing over the top but still a nice vibe for a casual meal. Service was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The only downside was that they were out of quite a few items. The staff mentioned it was because we came on the later side of the early evening (around 4 pm), which felt a little early to be running low, but not a dealbreaker. Overall, a solid find and I'll return the next time I'm in town.
