One day was scheduled for packing and late in the afternoon the two packers decided it was the end of their work day, even though there was much more to pack. Their response as they left was, "The movers can finish packing." Outrageous. Olympia sent over two new packers the next day, but I also had to pitch in packing. The loaders were also bad, such as when they dropped a large wooden wall sculpture, breaking off a corner. They didn't tell anyone nor did they retrieve the broken piece for possible reattachment later. The damage wasn't discovered until delivery halfway across the country. The wall sculpture was ruined. There were also problems getting my sofa through doorways. The sofa and front door frame both sustained damage in moving the sofa out of the house. At the destination house I strongly suggested to the movers that the front door be removed prior to bringing in the sofa. They declined to do so and more damage to the sofa occurred as well as breaking off the original doorknob of the 1880 house. Those are some of the worst examples. Between the packers and the loaders, a disheartening amount of damage occurred to my contents, some of them antiques. I had expected, and believed I had paid for, better results. I will say that the move coordinator, Jennifer C., was excellent and worked hard to resolve problems. The moving van driver, Paul S., also clearly wanted to deliver excellent service, but was hobbled by poor helpers. Although their good reviews encouraged me to select Olympia, I had both bad packers and bad loaders. Other people have been luckier. But the outcome of your move shouldn't depend on luck. Also, at the destination, inspect your most valuable items for damage and record it on the Bill of Lading before signing it and returning it to the driver. It will be very difficult to collect for damages if you don't note damage at the time of delivery! One final word of advice: To minimize chances of damage to your biggest furniture, strongly consider removing your entrance doors before the movers arrive. They are very reluctant to do that, from my experience.

When I initially called to get a quote, I was given one number by one person. I agreed to that rate and received my confirmation after giving my down payment. The day before my move, I still hadn't heard from them regarding what time the movers would arrive. When I called to inquire, I was told that my original quote was wrong and that I would have to pay around $200 more. I was irritated, but was already set to move the next day, so I agreed to the new quote from this new person. The movers arrived 2 hours before the scheduled time (not their fault, once again the fault of the company), and they were LOVELY. Such nice men, friendly, and did an excellent job. After they had finished, I received a call from yet again a different person asking to settle my payment. This time, it was FIVE HUNDRED more than my initial quote. I was baffled. I explained to this new person my situation, what the previous two people had told me, and why I certainly wasn't going to agree to pay that much more. She understood, talked to someone else, and lowered the price back down closer to my 2nd quote (still higher than the original). I would never recommend this company. Getting all the bins delivered, with zip ties, labels, and moving dollies, made packing and unpacking a breeze. You can adjust how long you need the bins before and after the move itself. MakeSpace IS A SCAM…read more After being told my movers would arrive between 8-11am I received a text message at 10:50 from the moving team saying, "we'll be there in 20-30 depending on traffic". 50 minutes later, nothing. I so texted them and received a message saying, "we're en route". At this point it was 11:45 -- 45 MIN LATE FROM THE LAST POINT OF THE TIME WINDOW. Then about 20-25 minutes later, I received a message from a customer service agent - not the movers who had been texting me - saying there was nowhere to park, so they left. Interesting, because there were places to park, including where I parked my car to ensure there was a designated spot. The customer service rep was very apologetic and said she'd call the team. She called them, and called me back maybe 40 minutes later only to say she couldn't help cause they had nowhere to park. WHO DOES THAT? They could text updates on their arrival, but when they didn't see immediate parking, said nothing. Keep in mind, this was the last day of the month. I was moving from Philadelphia to Boston that day. So I now had to engineer a move to Boston the same day (now at about 1:30pm). Needless to say, no moving company could help. I looked at a previous Uhaul quote I'd gotten when I was considering moving myself -- the truck rental would have been $450. Uhaul, Ryder, and Budget all had no trucks within 150mi. of Philadelphia on the day of the move. Penske did -- so I drove 45 minutes to pick it up, paying $1200 for the rental. Of course, I was moving from a 3rd floor walk up apartment, which was too much to move myself with the time crunch. I was forced to hire people off TaskRabbit since no actual movers could accommodate the same day scheduling. Like the truck, I paid a significant premium for same day help. The two gents, who were far from professional movers, with me, were able to get my stuff in the truck in 3 hours. All in, I paid $600 for those two helpers. Worst of all, I went back and looked at the quotes I'd gotten for a full-service move from Philly to Boston (all in the $1,400-1,700 range). Instead, I ended up paying just over $2k, because MakeSpace is a SCAM. Maybe a bad outing, you say? Just bad luck? I thought so, too. Don't get me wrong, under no circumstances would an experience this bad be allowable, but then I met my friend's new girlfriend -- who HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE. As did her friend, who moved the same week she had from NYC to Philly. They often DO NOT SHOW, do not call, and leave you to figure it out. I paid just over $2,000 to move myself! Not leaving Philly until 9pm and arriving in Boston to my new apartment at 3am. Thankfully I was able to get out the same day and avoid having to deal with my old apartment and property manager to pay additional rent. All-in-all, the worst experience ever. Whatever you do, do not risk it by using this "company".
