My experience with Award Self Storage was nothing but superb. Rob, Tiffany and Norma were always there to answer questions or help me figure out the lock! It was always clean and well-kept. Sadly, they were recently bought out by something called MyPlace Storage--the service is nonexistent; not open when they say they are; secure entry gate is broken and remains open; the garage door where you unload and load your belongings is broken and remains up; and, worse, the doors to the hallways leading to all the climate-controlled units are open to anyone and everyone. I will be looking for another storage facility now that Award has left the building ... Not recommended. read more

While transitioning to my new place, Award Self Storage carefully stored my things into a reasonably priced and sized storage unit. This storage facility was perfect for what I needed for a few months. I rented a climate controlled unit that included storing my cozy couch! Once I removed my things out of the unit, the items were exactly the same. If you rent a climate controlled unit -- you can only go into your storage unit during their business hours. Award Self Storage offers: a truck to move-in (did not use), along with several boxes and 2nd month rent for FREE! The facility sells boxes and such for typical moving needs. They also have carts inside the storage building to assist with moving items. Overall, this establishment did it's job and I had no issues while there. Also, the staff are nice and helpful when needed. Award Self Storage is 20 mins from Philadelphia which was a major plus! read more

We rented a storage unit here largely because it was close to my dad's new place. However, we have been pretty pleased. This company offers both inside climate-controlled units and outside ones. The woman who has answered the phone every time I have called, Sue, is really wonderful. She has answered all of my questions and helped me get my dad into a unit that worked best for him. She gave me lots of options and even helped by telling me what they had coming up that would be available by his move date. She is very clear, very friendly and I really appreciated her through this process. I guess, reading the other reviews, that some people have issues when they move out, which obviously we haven't done yet. But overall so far I've been really pleased. On the day we actually moved our stuff into the unit, we had a moving company in tow. A gentleman (I think the owner maybe) saw us come in and asked me which unit. Then he directed us on how to get there and even came out to further guide us when I inevitably got lost. The unit itself was broom clean and ready to be moved into. My only real criticism here is that I think they could maybe have some more helpful signs to help guide you to your unit number if you are not familiar with where it is. I also feel like it's a tad bit pricey, but we did choose a climate-controlled unit, which naturally costs more. They do give the second month free as an incentive. Also, pro tip: I did not realize until we got there and the guy told us that they are only open till 5 on Sundays. I kind of thought you'd be able to access your locker any time once you had a keypad code to get into the facility, but it is seemingly not so. So plan accordingly. read more

Recommend this place highly for any one in the area. Easy to reserve online, no hassle with check in and have great deals for people moving. Personally want to thank them for helping with my situation. I was stuck between houses with my new house not yet completed and needed a place for storage. They got me an appropriate rental and worked with me to get the truck they use for free. A few hours after setting it up and paying, last minute I was then able to move things directly into my new home and would not need the storage unit. They were happy to give me a full refund and cancelled the account without any hassle. read more

I rented a small storage space here for a couple of months last year when I was getting a business up and running. I found the staff generally helpful and polite and the space adequate for my needs, although a little pricey. Located on a well travelled street rather than a back alley as so many storage facilities seem to be. I had none of the problems or misunderstandings about payment that other reviewers describe. read more

I have only left one bad review before and I wouldn't be leaving this one if I didn't feel the need to warn people before they make the same mistake I did by renting a unit at this facility. Everything went very smoothly with move-in and the ladies who worked the desk were super friendly. The unit was clean and I felt comfortable leaving my belongings there for a few months. The deal I found online was for a $100 per month with the 2nd and 5th months being free. Well, after the 2nd month I noticed I was charged anyway, so I called to have it removed. They apologized and gave me the 3rd month free instead. I reminded them the 5th month was supposed to be free as well and was told it would be fine. The 5th month rolled around and I was charged. I called again and they apologized and gave me the 6th month for free instead. At this point, I probably should have felt that the company was a bit shady, but I'm more trusting than that so I let it go. I called in July 2014 to alert them that we were going to move out at the end of August over Labor Day weekend. I said I figured they would want some advanced notice. The woman on the phone told me that since we were moving out after hours we would need to close the unit once we emptied it and leave the key in the lock on the unit. I thought this was a bit bizarre, so I repeated it back to her and she said yes. They would recover the key when the unit was checked the next morning. I gave her the date of our move-out and believed she was entering it into their system. Move-out went smoothly and I haven't given it another thought since. Much to my dismay, I was perusing my credit card statement last week and realized there was a $100 charge from Award Self Storage for January. I panicked. I checked back for every previous month and found the same charge. I MOVED OUT OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND!!!! Obviously, I should have caught this sooner. Side-note: I make a lot of big charges for work that I have to expense, so it's difficult to comb through my statements and easy to miss something like this. I called immediately and the young man I spoke with was very nice but said there was nothing in the system about my move-out and they did not have the key in their safe to my unit. I told him the woman on the phone gave me instructions to leave it in the lock on the unit and he said that was incorrect and not how they handle move-outs. He checked the pin-pad records and the owner checked the security records and found that the last time I entered my pin and was seen on camera moving out was in fact Labor Day weekend at the end of August. He told me he needed to talk with the owner (Alan) and would get back to me with a decision. I had to keep calling three days in a row before the young man was able to tell me that Alan only agreed to reimburse me for the month of January... which I had just been charged for a few days prior. First of all, I am not asking for a business owner to lose money. My dad owns a small business and I work for a small business. But, I really don't think it's fair for me to be out over $400 for the mistake of Alan's employee. I also understand that in their opinion I should have caught the charges earlier than now. That being said, if I make a mistake at work, my company has to stand behind that and make things right with our customers. Second, I wrote Alan an email explaining myself and how I felt taken advantage of and he didn't even have the decency to respond. Last, the fact that they tried to charge me for the 2nd and 5th months in the hopes that I wouldn't notice really should have raised some red flags about what kind of company this is in hindsight. read more

I thought they were great until it came time to get my stuff out. I had to store my entire house contents for 40 days. I was quoted one price and was told that there was a 10 day grace period before they charge you a new month. So I specifically asked "So If I move my stuff in on the 3rd, and took it out on the 13th, theres no charge?". They said "yes". Based on that I decided to use them for my storage needs. On Moving day I asked again, different staff member, same answer. When I went to move out I was told i would have to pay extra month. If I moved on the 3rd had to have stuff out by the 12th. How convenient to let me know that while they hold my stuff hostage. I was pissed that they deceived me. The manager was nice enough to give me a discount on the month, but still it was a few hundred dollars that I didn't expect to pay. I still felt deceived and would not use them again. The kicker is I could have easily moved in a day later if they just told me of the extra expense I would incur. read more
