We hired Payless movers thinking they were a good and honest family Moving co. We were so wrong. They broke a Cadenza and never offered to pay for it. They lost or stole so many things. We needed movers and were super limited to our choices but Payless was at a reasonable price. We hired the company to help us move everything but clearly the 3 skinny guys weren't going to be able to do that. One look and I knew it wasn't going to be good. Each were very polite to my face but obviously were not happy about walking up our stairs. That's why we paid them though and we definitely made it clear what the job entailed beforehand. They frequently took smoke breaks or times to eat/drink and complain away from us. Which was fine...we didn't care, but not when the clock was running. I needed to continually keep going outside and tried to get them moving by offering water. It felt like herding angry lazy teens and it felt like I was stuck being friendly so that we could just get going. The worst was that we had to move things up on our own. We moved out boxes as if we were part of the company. Sweaty, tired and totally fed up was the best way to summarize our experience. I'm convinced we moved the same number of boxes. We were vulnerable and needed this done so it was not a choice. Honestly, that day was hell but I knew I'd have to get through it even if it meant carrying out boxes on my own. All our furniture arrived fine, somewhat professional but due to miscommunication they would need to return the next day. We had only half our boxes finished. The icing on top? The quote we were given turned out to be "wrong" according to our movers but luckily we had it on paper. They tried to charge us more. A phone call to the owner helped. The owner was super polite, understanding and set up a day 2 move. Since we knew it was pretty much going to be us moving with hired help we had low expectations. Day 2 was worse, they had 2 people and would only handle large items and big boxes. Even if we moved small stuff we weren't allowed to put it the truck. It was really not worth arguing bc we NEEDED them at that moment. We were helpless really. The 2nd trip movers still didn't get the job done. Luckily we had friends as a back up plan set up. If I could give this company a zero I would on March 3rd the owners husband Neil arrived at my door on time I had boxes in the living room, the kitchen, the hallways and in the garage. I had spoke to Lisa the wk before and advised her that I wanted my heavy furniture moved 1st then my boxes I had one storage unit 10×30 and if I needed another for my boxes I would get it. I walked her husband Neil around and I told him that I wanted my heavy stuff moved in and the boxes to be toward the front so that I would be able to get to them and he said that is what they would do and I told him that the boxes in the kitchen were not going he smelled like he had a taste on his breath early in the morning. He said he would let the guys know well I left to get more moving blankets and during that time they loaded my boxes and a couple of heavy items on to the truck even the boxes that I told him not to take. I didn't know until we are at the storage unit and I see some of the boxes with kitchen details on it so I am speaking to the little guy Oscar who has a lot of mouth and he kept asking me what difference did it make because they were all coming anyway and I told him because I specifically stated that I wanted my heavy furniture moved in 1st and my boxes to be near the doorway he just kept repeating the same thing what difference did it make and I asked him if his mom wants something done a certain way does he do it like that and he said yes and I said well what I am paying for I want it done the way that I requested. I even treated them to breakfast an that lil bastard wanted to talk junk. He called Lisa and she told them to stop moving my stuff because she felt that I was not going to pay so I called her and asked her what was going on and she said it was confusion and she didn't want no problems so I told her to send her husband back because he knew what I said to him that morning about my stuff and she said he couldn't come back! What the hell is he a lil kid or something he probably had more to drink, so she agreed to send another person out to get it done quickly. The guy she sent was very quick and good but Oscar became more mad because Lisa was going to credit me time so he was talking crap in Spanish thinking that no one knew what he was saying and he called the word Puta which my niece heard him say to another Spanish worker Jose and then he even spoke against Neil and said he wasn't even the owner because he is not really with his wife Lisa but he was the one in charge!! Well Lisa needs to get his lil ass in line and fire him for telling her business and how he treats a customer who is paying for their service. Needless to say I can't get to any of my boxes and they left multiple boxes just sitting out in the storage building. Hi ^^^^^^update***** MY BEDROOM SET IS RUINED BECAUSE OF THESE SLOPPY MOVERS!!!! N the owner is nasty!!!!!!! I used this company yesterday to move me from a one bedroom apartment across the street IN THE SAME COMPLEX. I figured it would take 2.5 hours 3 TOPS!!!!!!!. They charge by the hour. Well it took 2 guys 2hours to just LOAD THE TRUCK UP. Then 3hours to move me to second floor apartment. So I'm total I paid $545 to move across the street!!!! Do not use this company. I talked to a woman who told me her guys were fast. She sent two young kids and they had no meat on their bones so it was painful to watch these teens struggle and take Hoooooouuurrrrrsssssss to move me. I had a lot of boxes and it took them just 1.5 hours to load boxes. WTF? I don't know what else I could do. I looked these people up and saw great reviews and unfortunately I was taken advantage of. Think about how long it would take them to move anything bigger then a one bedroom APARTMENT with zero miles! You will pay what a $1500 to move across the street? I don't know. I'm not a professional mover but this is horrible. If you have lots of time and MONEY AND YOU want to see two adolescents move your furniture around???? be my guess. I was ok with most of the movers and they worked efficiently but when it came to dropping off my stuff they lost all the hardware of mirror shelves ect. I didn't have one hardware. They put my bed together wrong some case they didn't put any of the beds together. There was also a very creepy guy who kept following me around giving sexual comments. It was so uncomfortable I kept asking my husband to stay with me during the move. At one point he ask me in the bathroom with him . I felt the mercy of getting my stuff off the truck so they wouldn't leave. The owners were nice. And the woman which I think she was the owner. And Joe was good . Scheduling was easy, especially since I called with short notice (2 days prior) and was even able to accommodate me again after I had to push back the time originally set. The movers arrived on time and very friendly. They shrunk-wrap all of my furniture, and we're very conscious of making sure everything was secure and would not break. 2/22/2018 I had 10 boxes and 4 high-backed stools to ship from Cherry Hill, NJ to Miami, FL and was looking for a reliable moving company. After being quoted extremely high rates due to the distance and not the contents of the move by several movers, as well as UPS, I passed by a home in my neighborhood who was moving out with Payless Moving. I called the number on the truck, and received a fixed price quote that was a fraction of the price of other movers. Neal arrived an hour early, carefully loaded up the shipment, and delivered it to the hi-rise apartment in Miami. A month later, I had to move the contents of a one bedroom apartment from Knoxville, TN to Cherry Hill, NJ. Once again, this was a fairly small amount of items and Neal gave me a flat rate price that was far below any of the other moving companies that I had contacted. I gave Neal the keys to the apartment with instructions. He carefully wrapped the mattresses in plastic, and wrapped the wall hangings and small items in either paper or a blanket. I packed all of the storage boxes for both moves. He arrived in Cherry Hill an hour earlier than expected, carefully unloaded the contents into a storage unit, and then dropped the remaining items at my home. With both moves, Neal kept in contact via phone & text while on the road. We have moved many times, both long distance and local, and the care that was taken in this move far surpassed any of the other moves. Unfortunately, I have to give a very low rating. I guess you get what you pay for. I called the day before and the woman told me she could only give me a window of time 12-2. I said that's fine, because she had assured me that the movers would call me on their way, so that I would be able to get home from where I was. Therefore, I assumed I could be out and about during this time, because is get a call when they were on their way and I could get home. This is not what happened at all. I get a call at 11:30 that the movers were at my apartment. I told them that I happened to be at my new place unloading some stuff and I would leave as soon as a could, but that I was told I'd get a warning call. The mover sounded very frustrated. I called him multiple times on my way to give him updates about where my fiancé and I were. He never answered. 15 mins before 12, he called me back and although frustrated, he knew where I was and how long it would take me to get back. Then, I get a call from the owner (the mover was angry and called him). He owner asked me if I was on my way and I explained the situation. My fiancé and I got there at a few minutes past 12 and the movers were literally pulling away. My fiancé had to pull his car up behind the truck to stop them. They were actually leaving!!!!!! Then, we get them to stay and the main mover was superbly rude, even after explaining that we called the day before. He was very angry. He told us he was starting the time from 12. We said we wanted the time clock started when we arrived. We called the owner and he vouched for us. The actual move - the movers were very quick and efficient. We were locked into 3 hours and paid for that. We did not want to go over this time, because of money so we took a car load of stuff over to the new place as well. The movers finished well under 3 hours and we asked them to help us take stuff out of our cars, because we paid for 3 hours. He said no because we made him late for his next job. He said if the stuff had been in the truck, he would've helped us. When the movers left - we realized our glass kitchen table had a missing piece!! We called the owner to explain the rude behavior, how we were skimped on time and how our table was missing a piece. He was 'nice' but didn't do anything for us. He kept telling us that he couldn't find the piece, he had to ask the mover when he came back and that it was a small piece (implying it wasn't a big deal). We explained that it was imperative that we got this piece because the table was a gift, the table wasn't usable without it bc it was on a tilt and the table isn't made anymore. He assured us he would get it to us that night. Nothing. Called the next day, assured us we'd get it then. Hadn't heard anything about time so I called multiple times, as well as emailed. Finally, calling on a coworkers phone, the owner responded. He acted as if he never told me Id get the piece yesterday or today. It was not a priority to him and a whole lot of lies. Finally, I said I want to come get it myself. At 9:30 that night, we had to drive a half hour to pick up the piece in his mailbox at his home. He was home and left it there - never once apologized or anything. They had our money and that's all that mattered. read more

The movers were great guys, really professional, speedy, and effective. I have nothing but positive things to say for Mark and Nate-- these two guys really know what they're doing. They were about an hour late but called in advance. Once they got there, they really worked hard. The move could not have gone more smoothly, and it's because of them! I was slightly annoyed with the company itself. First, they refused to give an estimate in writing and insisted on being paid cash. Fine... except I'm pretty sure that's because there were many fees that Payless "forgot" to mention to me when I called for the quote. I was not told that televisions HAVE to be wrapped/packed by the movers (for $45) or that there was a fuel surcharge of $15. I paid the entire amount owed, no problem, but there was no good reason why this wasn't disclosed in advance. I also think Payless severely underestimated the time needed for the move-- on purpose, to give me a lower estimate. I was estimated for a 3 hour move. My old house and new house were 30 mins apart (so minimum 30 mins of driving time). So really, 2.5 hours of moving time. Which equates to a little over an hour on both ends. I had a 2 bedroom house but moved all the boxes on my own before the move. I was 100% organized with everything dismantled, wrapped, labeled, and ready to go. The movers commented that they had never seen such an organized house or such a smooth move. They were working HARD and fast without a break and it took 3.5 hours. My boyfriend and I also helped carry/move the entire time. So really, there's absolutely no way it could have taken 3 hours with all the boxes and with only the 2 movers working. That 3 hour estimate was hugely unrealistic. Had we not been super organized and helped-- this would have been a 4+ hour move, easily. Payless is in the business-- they should know that. I think they probably DID... but wanted to come in as the low bid estimate. Overall, I'd use Payless again-- but I'd ask several times about the "fine print" and fees and I'd add time onto their estimate. I have no complaints, only raves about the actual movers-- they saved the day for the company! read more

5 hours late, rushed and complained the entire time. When they finally loaded up my things and headed to new place, they got stopped by police for a broken tail light, then the driver had a suspended license so they had to call for another driver. I guess the other 2 movers did not have a license. It was raining and they brought the boxes in and just stacked them anywhere in living room. I had all my boxes labeled with what room they belonged in, and was told "I'm not looking at what is written on the box". They tracked dirt and grass in on the carpet, and could not be bothered to brush off their feet. I had called 3 different numbers and left multiple messages, and still have not heard back. I am sure they don't do customer service surveys. I was afraid to not pay them when they finished up about 11pm, but I did not tip them. read more

I set up my appointment with the OWNER Neil and he quoted me for 2 hours and 3 movers, going from my house to an apartment on the third floor which was LESS then a mile away. He said he put me in the books for 8am...day before I spoke to Terry and she said he probably didnt have the book in front of him and that they book well in advance. ( scheduled it 3 weeks prior). New time was now between noon and 2pm......Mark and his crew did not show up until 5:15!!!!!!! Are you kidding me?!?! Mark had kept me in contact with running behind and at first it was only an hour, but an hour turned into 3 hours LATER!!! Had I not been making settlement on my house two days later I would have found others to help me move. When they did arrive I was informed that there is a charge for wrapping my furniture - $45....they wouldnt take any furniture WITHOUT wrapping it! Then there is a fuel charge...$15...oh and that I would need to pay for an additional 2 hours cause when they scheduled me they underestimated the time needed. (I was told they do this alot!) I was able to get those wrapping and fuel charges waived since they were 3 hours late but I still ended up paying MORE than I budgeted for with the extra 2 hours they tact on! And did I mention that both Neil and Terry NEVER MENTIONED ANY OF THIS?!!?? What kind of "business" is this? To me its like a bait and switch.... These guys were great. Totally reliable, courteous and ready & willing to do as asked with a smile. They also called to confirm times and didn't flinch when we had to schedule a couple of hours later due to our apartment not being ready. They were also very fast. Buyer Beware! Let me start by telling the positive.... Really liked Neal the manager when he was at our house for an onsite estimate. Great price for all the stuff we had... was really excited to use movers as I've always done it myself. The office person called to confirm the day before and the crew showed up early. Was really excited to work with them. Before I share the negative, I'll share another positive... the 4 man crew worked very hard on our move and they were very nice and respectful. Again, they worked very hard and were great guys. So here's where it went south. Five minutes after they arrived they took down the cable wires in the street with the truck and the hardware ripped out of the side of our house. My husband was furious and I assured him that everyone makes mistakes and to relax. Was dissapointed that No one apologized to us for the mistake and then worse instructed us we had to take care of the down lines laying through the yard and in the street... 20 degree weather. Next issue is that I was quoted for a 7 hour move and it took 12 hours... and that included us instructing them to stop moving stuff out of our house because we already exceeded the 7 hours and hadn't even left our current home. . We are local so decided to move the rest ourselves and at least get what they already had out to the new house. At the end of the day the bill was almost double what we were quoted because they underestimated it. It gets better...... I sent Neal an email telling him I was dissappointed in the move, highlighting the positives above, but also stating I thought it was a bait and switch. I gave him the opportunity to change my impression. I did not mind paying the money but felt like as a moving professionals he should have been able to provide a better estimate.... and they should have apologized for the mistake he made with pulling down our cable wires. He contacted me a few hours later and proceeded to scream and curse at me blaming it on me and calling me profane names. He said I added things that were not included but we clearly asked him to move it all and he assurred us it was no issue. I cannot type online the profanity and personal insults he screamed at me but they were the worst curse words one can use and he used them repeatedly. He would not let me speak and then hung up on me. Whats worse is I feel bad for the crew .....because of the bad estimate by Neal I only had enough cash on hand to buy them dinner and then tip them $60 each for a 12 hour move in 20 degree weather. read more

So we get a letter back after we submit all the claim information that we still owe a balance of $290 before they'll even start the claim process for damaging close to $3,000 worth of furniture... Yet we were told by Mark the day of delivery while this was all happening, who is the point of contact we had with the company the whole time, that we wouldn't have to pay another dime until someone came out to look at the furniture... so not only is this a horrible company with horrible movers, they also don't honor their word... And regardless of whether my name was on the contract or not, I was there, and the furniture is in my name, and your movers had no problem subjecting me and my kids to their foul language and bad tempers the whole time... So I AM involved regardless of my name being on a piece of paper... It would seem Neal, as though you need to be a little bit more informed about what your coworkers discuss with clients and what they agree to with regards to things like this before you post negatively without knowing the whole story... read more

I'll start out by saying moving day was just shy of a disaster. There were scheduling and communications issues galore that resulted in our move being several hours later than I'd originally scheduled for, and it made for a frustrating and difficult day for what should've been a small, straightforward move of a one-bedroom apartment. It was an incredibly frustrating day all around with what I felt was not great customer service from the office staff. That said, the movers themselves were nice guys, really efficient and friendly despite what was apparently a day from hell for them (and one of the hottest days of the year, which I'm sure didn't help anyone's temper). They did the move in less time than quoted, which was awesome especially considering how late it was. They got in and out quick, despite some fairly tight spaces. Can't say enough for the professionalism and service of the crew themselves. There was one piece of damaged furniture after the dust settled, and I was still pretty frustrated over the timinig issues, so I ended up emailing the company a couple days after the move. I got a call back within about an hour of sending my (admittedly very long) email, and he was apologetic and worked out a solution for me that I felt was very satisfactory. I think we caught these guys on a bad day; like I said, it was hot as anything, and they did mention the morning jobs had all gone sideways on them. I get it, it's a tough industry. The fact that they made a point of making good on what went wrong really resonates with me; it shows me they care about their customers and they want repeat business. I was honestly really impressed by the level of integrity it showed for them to call me back so quickly and work it out; they could've just ignored the situation (they got paid in cash, after all). All told, I'd definitely give them another chance, although I might pick a day in the middle of the month when it's less likely to be a crazy moving day. read more

This company is very unprofessional. I reserved a day and time to move. Got a call saying the truck wasnt back yet time to be delayed for later in the day, ok benefit of a doubt i said ok. Then i get a call saying they are running late and they would be able to arrive between 2 p. and 4 pm my original appointment was at 9 am. I said by the time you get here @ a 4 hr move it would be @830 pm. So i asked if they could do it the next morning...he said he would check with the office..ok got no reply call okaying the change. About an hour later i called to cancel them, the person was Very rude, and she hung up on me, i called her back and asked her is that the way you treat your customers..she said there was reason to continue the conversation..First ,you dont treat your customers like trash..the customers are your payroll...No customers, no pay...So I would definitely Not recommend this company. Well, I have witnesses and The owner, Neil came 2 days before and looked around and took 400.00 OFF the initial quote and his workers were given brownies I made for them and water while they moved things plus his worker commented to the owner on the phone when they realized they needed another truck,who never showed up as planned on moving day that he miscalculated the load. In addition, my daughter had no furniture at my home as she lives somewhere else. I removed a sofa, dining rooms set and her bedroom furniture as well as half of what was in my storage! On August Mark, Mark and Dustin moved me from Newfield to Pittsgrove, NJ and they were AWESOME!!!! They were courteous and respectful and overwhelmingly helpful. I had used Payless Moving in the past and never had an issue. I used them for my latest move which was literally 5 minutes from my current location. I have moved several times over the past few years including moving family several times so I would say that I am an experienced mover. I was well packed and had all my stuff stage. What I consider an easy move for a 2-bedroom apartment. I was expecting my friendly crew to show up and to my surprise the crew leader had an attitude. Our move time was 8am and they showed up at 2pm. They had billed me for a 3 hour move at $480 and a 3-man crew. I knew this was more than enough and the move should be competed in under 2 hours. The first thing out this guys mouth was "I have to tell you that this move is going to take you at least an extra hour and I have to prepare you that its going to be at least an extra $140 per hour. You're moving for the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor." I was thinking this guy is crazy and I had a bad feeling that they were going to try to "Milk" the move just to charge me extra. And boy was I correct. They were going sooooooo slow that I had to move stuff my self to get it on the truck. Only 1 guy was working and moving stuff. I got so frustrated that I had to tell them that I would move the rest of my things myself. I walked to my new complex faster than the truck drove there. Once there they started unpacking, again at a snail's pace. I asked the crew leader what my time limit before the extra charges was kicked in and he refused to tell me. I then asked them just to unload the truck and that I started bringing my stuff in the apartment myself. They began mocking me and making fun of me. The crew leader said it was my fault because I had not packed properly because I had to many bags and I should have packed more in boxes because they could only move 2 bags at a time, and they could move many more boxes. He made sure to make me feel bad about moving to the third floor (which was only 1 and half flights of stairs .... Hence why I hired movers at $500) I never had such a poor experience for such an expensive cost. I would have done better renting a U-Haul and moving my stuff myself. I went from recommending this company to all my friends and family to NEVER EVER USING THEM AGAIN. My recommendation to the owner .... Fire the 2 guys because they are ruining your business. Great great company and customer service!!!!! I've used this company in 4 moves. Most recently an out of state move. That should say something that I continuously use theirs service. They are reasonably priced, quick, efficient, on time, and etc. They take pride in their work and assuring safe and secure passage and moving of your items and take care of things if any mishaps happen on the spot. The owners are really really nice and accommodating. They make your move easier and less stressful taking one less thing off your plate.Their staff(movers) are very friendly and strong lol. I would recommend them for any move big or small, local or out of state. All my next moves or friends or family moves will be through them. As they say good help is hard to find and when I find it, I stick with them and pay it forward through reviews like these. So I hope I helped in your decision with your move.
