They discussed our wants and needs for the somewhat challenging space and came up with creative solutions to achieve them. They were a joy to work with! Taylor often came on-site to inspect ongoing work. He kept the project organized and the trades well coordinated. His communication with us was outstanding, and he was always responsive to our questions and requests. Having Callie on board as our designer was a game changer. She made the process very collaborative, taking great care to understand our vision for the space and to help us choose the perfect materials and features. Edward, the owner, stopped by several times to check progress and to ensure our satisfaction. And we appreciated crew member Carlos, who was a constant cheerful presence in our home throughout the entire project. This team created the beautiful and highly functional kitchen we were hoping for! They will definitely be our go-to company for our future projects. Edward Dean Design & Build completed a pretty sizable remodel for us last Spring in our 1920s…read morehouse. Initially, we had LOFTY goals of a second story renovation and an ADU in the backyard. EDDB helped us with design and permits for everything, but in the end, we could only afford the first floor renovation, which involved taking some walls down, a TON of fresh electrical, brand new kitchen, new floors, retexturing of quite a few walls, and adding in some pretty arches. The guys all did a great job and Edward/Taylor were very kind/funny along the way. One thing we really appreciated is that they didn't give up on us when we continuously changed the scope of our project due to budget. We all worked together to figure out what we COULD accomplish. Hopefully when we win the lottery, we can finally have them finish all of our other permitted projects!

So far we've had him replace a toilet along with all the flooring that had damage. He has always been fair and honest with his estimate in the time it would take to repair and determined the best way to fix anything we've asked. He is very straight talking ..no BS yet very polite and well mannered too! It took a couple of days to do the work (it went from a cabinet move to a drywall job because we unveiled a giant hole in my ceiling after the cabinets came down) but each time, scheduling a day/time with him was easy and he was prompt and hard working. My husband and I are really pleased with the work.. the ceiling looks flawless, nobody would ever know cabinets used to be there :) An added, important plus is that while he was working on my cabinets... he noticed and smelt gas in my walls in near the washer/dryer unit :( ... something I should have acted upon much sooner, I know! It turned out to be a loose flex pipe connecting to my dryer.....that I immediately had fixed So.. all in all, I'm very thankful to have the cabinets moved.......but even more thankful that he saved my life! (and perhaps my neighbors lives too...) I will definitely call Don again.. for any house work I need doing!

Mike and the team at Elevation 92 just wrapped up a large home renovation for me. The renovation…read moreinvolved all new flooring throughout the entire house, all new paint, a redesigned fireplace, redesigned stairway, a down to the studs kitchen remodel (which included a La Cantina pass through window to the backyard), removal of one wall, and a powder room remodel. We remodeled this house from out of town, so that added an extra level of complication. We were really happy with Mike and his team. He referred us to a designer, that we loved. He sourced and managed almost all of the trades that came through and they were excellent. This was our first home, and our first remodel. I have heard horror stories about remodels gone wrong, and we were so lucky to have found Elevation 92. The only minor headaches we had were supply chain related, and that can't be helped. 2 examples that I think show Mike's character and what it is like working with him: 1. There was a miscommunication over the automatic blinds that came with the house. We wanted to keep them, but some were misplaced or damaged during demo. When we raised this with Mike he immediately said he would cover the cost to repair or replace. I didn't have to ask, it was just a given that he would do this. I really appreciated this. 2. There was one small part of some touch up work that I was not 100% happy with. It was not up to the standard of the rest of his work (which was excellent). I expressed my concerns, and Mike had a different team come in and fix it. There were no denials or excuses, he just fixed it. We have additional work we will be doing on the house next year and we will definitely using Mike and his team.

I found Pat's Handyman Service through reading his reviews from a previous customer. He had experience in installing Shiplap as an accent wall. His quote was very reasonable and I'd hire him again for future "bigger" projects. He's not just a handyman but has construction experience and knowledge. I am so happy and satisfied with the finished work he had done for both bathrooms. To be able to add a bit more design look to upgrade it and make the bathrooms stand out more than other rentals. Thank you, Pat. I will be keeping your number in my contacts for vendors on my rental property.

Most people I asked were afraid of the job or would bombard me without any details. Andrew was a real human that got on a call with me, broke down his process, added details to help me understand (because there was a leaf and metal inside the table to complicate matters) and was fully transparent about his availability. He also mentioned a generous price because it was my grandmother, which he didn't have to do. He showed up at the time window I requested (time windows are best for contractors because job times vary). My kids wanted to watch and he was friendly and approachable. He requested to work outside so that he could keep my place as tidy as possible. I have a high-volume life and I was able to trust him to work on his own, go to Home Depot and back for more tools he needed unexpectedly (he was prepared but that table needed more maintenance), and lock up my house properly when he left. I would trust him with high-profile clients and really weird jobs. Andrew is a good guy, straight arrow, and a sharp shooter.

Thomas Sommer is a great contractor and a genuinely fantastic human being…read more My parents spent a large portion of their savings to purchase a home in San Diego to be closer to family. Soon after they moved to their new home which was built only 3 years before they purchased it, it became clear there was a signings that construction defect on the second floor with a large leak into the ceiling which was due to incorrect installation of a sliding door. This was a known defect which had not been transparently disclosed by the prior owner. We attempted to contact the contractor who had built the home without success. After months of meeting with other contractors to get this door replaced and reinstalled, we found Sommer Construction. Thomas met with us and was incredibly empathetic - he insisted that rather than repair it himself - he would help us contact the home builder and facilitate the repair being done under warranty. When we first heard this idea, we didn't really want to go down this path because we didn't think there was any way this could work. Given the long ordeal, we simply wanted to pay for it and have it repaired without the hassle of arguing and fighting with someone (especially given that Covid was ongoing). After speaking to Tom and considering how expensive the repair was going to be, we thought why not give it a chance. Tom was convinced that this repair should be repaired under warranty by the person who built the home. It seemed to good to be true that someone would go through all of this hassle and go out of their way to help us get this done. This just speaks to the kind of person Thomas is, he tracked down the original builder and held him responsible for the repair. He then guided us through the negotiations and repairs with the original contractor - taking time out of his busy schedule all because he is a genuinely good and empathetic human being. It is so refreshing to meet someone like this and we cannot express how grateful we are to Thomas Sommer. He gives contractors a good name. If you read the other reviews you will quickly see that this is just the way that Thomas is and how he runs his company. The more we got to know Thomas we found that he is simply a man of principle first and foremost. If we ever need any project done, he is the first person we would call for sure! Cannot recommend him highly enough.

There's only one person in the house and with the pandemic, nobody else has been here. There isn't much traffic in that room. I contacted Thomas on 1/11/21. I asked about a warranty and explained about the grout and that the floor was creaking. He was a bit defensive - he'd done the job right - but said to call him back in a week and we'd look into it. I called again on 1/20/21 as requested; no response. I called again 1/28; no response. Ghosting your clients when there is an issue with your work is really problematic. Even if the warranty is over, it's best to find out what has happened. For this, I'm going to hire someone else to regrout and I think the problem should be solved - I've since realized the creaking is coming only where the tiles are missing grout so it should be an easy fix. That said, you should think twice about using Sommer Construction; what if the situation is bigger? And, if it is, you can always claim against his Contractors bond with the State of CA to get resolution if he ghosts you.
