Absolutely wonderful food but horrible server. I'm a huge foodie and regularly go out to eat, but this was hands down one of the WORST experiences I've ever had with a server. We were out to celebrate a big change in my life and while the food and drinks were superb, the server tainted the atmosphere and experience. Best hostess ever, super sweet! Worst server I've probably ever experienced. She repeatedly told us to "hold on" while she was typing in our order, mind you we were in NO rush, so to hear that was quite alarming. She never looked us in the eyes while taking our order and acted like we were an inconvenience when the restaurant was not busy at all. I've honestly never been treated this way in a restaurant environment and was highly disappointed simply because of her. When ordering, I sometimes like to ask for their opinion, I ordered a Bloody Mary and was given the option of mild or spicy, I asked how spicy is "spicy" and was returned with "it's either mild or spicy" and was taken aback by that response, especially with the tone it was presented in. Food-phenomenal. Timing-outstanding. Server-horrible. We tipped well, which I'm big on, simply for the other staff interactions we had and food but I HIGHLY suggest this restaurant consider looking for another server bc it ruined our experience when the food, hostess, atmosphere, and other staff were phenomenal. I had tried to eat here several times while visiting the area but each time it was way too busy due to open mic nights or bands playing and I don't like having to wait for an extended amount of time to be seated. So a month or so later after enjoying a long day of all this area has to offer we tried our luck once again but a little earlier than previous times and also not on a night they have a band or open mic, which seems to get super busy from what I had previously seen. First off, walking into this place it looks like the kind of place most people would want to enjoy a meal or drink at because it's very welcoming from the exterior and the interior as well. The hostess was super friendly and the wait staff was as well. The inside decor of this place is very charming and makes you feel right at home. The people eating on the day I was there were particularly happy and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The people at the bar also seemed to be happy and upbeat. So we started off with a couple waters and a hummus platter which was very good. I ordered the KING OYSTER MUSHROOM RISOTTO. I am vegetarian/vegan(unless I decide to have some sushi) so this dish was the perfect balance of what I was looking for. It had a wonderful balance of freshness and earthiness and tasted very clean. I would definitely order it again. I also enjoyed a couple craft beers that I let the bartender pick out for me and she did an excellent job because they tasted great with my dish. My friend got the CRISPY BUFFALO CHICKEN and said it was just okay but they weren't too impressed with it and didn't finish it and for a to go box. Later on after we left they got sick from possible food poisoning from it. I don't know for sure but that is the only thing they had ate since the morning. So there is a good chance it was. Personally, I like this place other than my friend getting sick from either spoiled chicken or contamination. I'll definitely return one day and give them another chance and maybe my friend will too. I think it's a nice option for people who really enjoy the area during the winter months at Wisp or the summer months on the lake but who are also looking to eat something on the healthier side in the Deep Creek area. read more

We were looking for a unique place to eat for our first getaway in Deep Creek and this joint didn't disappoint. (Oh yeah- rhyme time). Once you finally make it in the door (the door sticks, and it was a hilarious farce to sit at the bar and watch customer after customer struggle to get in, just as we did) the atmosphere is very chill. We particularly appreciated the "be kind to everyone" sign in the front of the property. We ordered the cauliflower wings with the Sweet Heat sauce and loved it so much we bought 16oz of the sauce to take home. Even tho we ate at the bar, I was really taken with the awesome outdoor seating. A fire pit with chairs surrounding it, picnic tables and plenty of space for kids to run; this area creates a very "backyard" homey feel and I look forward to bringing my kids there when we return to Deep Creek. Our meals were delicious (steak and Brie Sammich and the shrimp po boy) and our bartender made an excellent suggestion for my drink when I wasn't fully satisfied with my first choice. Not to mention, the draft prices were extremely good considering it's a tourist town. I also want to mention the positive reinforcement pictures in the women's bathrooms. Sometimes a woman needs an extra boost. And the bathroom floor has awesome pennies on it: Ok: I think that's it. OH! We went there on a weekend night for the live music (there was a cover). We had the cauliflower "wings" (pretty good), the risotto (meh), and the pork cheeks (also pretty good). Service was good, though at times challenging because of the music. However, the live music was excellent and thoroughly enjoyable. Expensive meal of almost no food! One of us ordered a salad that was supposed to come with peaches. It came with nothing more than a few leaves of bib lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes, some garlic and a Big chunk of fried cheese (didn't even come close to filling the container). Almost no food! I ordered avocado toast with two eggs. I got nothing but some barely toasted avocado toast and no eggs. And it took 35 minutes! We got the food to go so couldn't get a correction on our order. This is a really cool and quirky spot. There's an expansive outdoor dining area with strawberries growing everywhere. They have a window to order from and pay at. This was my only complaint. Once you ordered and paid, there wasn't much incentive to go back up if you wanted something else to drink or eat from the menu. You also add the tip when you order your food, which is such a service based thing and you kind of go into it blind when you haven't received your food yet. Having said that, our food was good. Quite good! It's served in takeout containers and you're given plastic to eat with but this is all to be expected. The brunch menu isn't extensive but there was a decent selection. Low key, casually appointed with eclectic table and dinette sets, comfortably spaced. Considering they were understaffed the service was surprising prompt , very helpful and friendly. The Buffalo cauliflower is a MUST!! Perfectly cooked to be tender and browned just right. Not too hot but flavorful. Yummy! Good selection of draft beers -the Venom IpA was right on. We shared a Gasto burger with Tomato jam and grilled onions and sharp cheddar cooked perfectly and the buns were fresh. Reasonably priced as well. Would definitely return! read more

All four dishes were cold, and had obviously been left for some time. The waitress most definitely forgot to bring our food and didn't apologize. The manager was understanding and apologized. Came on a Saturday night - 3 people without a reservation. We arrived about 5:15pm and was told it was "45 - 60 minute" wait. No problem, we sat at the bar, ordered drinks and appetizers. After almost an hour, checked again with hostess and told that it might still be an hour (!) All this time there were several tables that had been empty since we arrived. We ordered 2 beers and a glass of wine at the bar and, one friend, picked up that tab that came to $26. After two appetizers and another round of drinks, we decided not to stay for dinner after all so asked for check. Looking at my check, I realized I was charged $12 for a $10 glass of wine and asked for it to be corrected. On the way home, we figured out that on the first round, my $10 glass of wine was charged at $14! Whether this was truly a mistake or an opportunity to "pad" the bill I can't say but the fact that it happened twice makes me wonder. While the food has always been good here, the hostesses do not know how to seat properly and the bartender needs to charge for drinks correctly. There never seems to be a manager or owner present which may be the problem. In any case, I've bartended and managed restaurants in the past and Moonshadow is losing revenue due to not being able to efficiently turn tables. But, I don't think anyone really cares. Don't know if we will return - we are locals, by the way. read more

Please go visit MoonShadow! It's locally owned and sources much or all of its food locally. There are all sorts of options- GF, V and Veg. The food is great and the staff is thoughtful, professional and kind. You can eat inside- the tables and chairs are all funky and mismatched! They are dog-friendly and my Boxer and I have also eaten on the patio. There is also an area with some lawn games and Adirondack chairs. Really, just go! read more

We have gone here numerous times. We love the atmosphere but can't recommend it because the service is so slow and drinks are mediocre . The food can be very nice but tonight my veggie burger and fries came out cold and we had waited for at least 45 minutes . Saw some people leave who couldn't get service. This place could be a real gem if they can figure out their issues. I would never take friends here because it isn't consistent and I'd hate for them to have a bad experience. Maybe we came when the worst chef was making food. We came in right after the 10am opening for brunch. It was not busy so we got a table right away. The waitress was busy so the hostess brought some water and let me know my server was on her way. The service is why I am leaving 1 star. She was friendly and accommodated my request to take our food to go since my husband was not feeling so great. I waited almost 50min for the worst food I have been served in a very long time. Always wanted to try a Mexican hot chocolate. If it is supposed to have chunks of stuff in it I will never get it again. Plenty of liquor for sure but the texture was ewwwwww...yes texture of my drink! Shrimp & grits: My shrimp was over cook and the dish had zero flavor. Not one grain of salt or pepper or any seasoning. It was awful and the grits were runny with almost no cheese. Eggs Benedict was so so so sad. Where was the hollandaise sauce???? That is what makes the dish!! There was none anywhere to be found. WTF? The potatoes were well done with no seasoning! So disappointing. With plenty of options in the area, I suggest you avoid this one. I am typically a "grade inflator", but cannot give this restaurant more than 2 stars. The service from the hostess and server was not friendly or attentive. The food was priced a bit high, but we expected something tasty and different due to the Yelp ratings. My pork belly sandwich was underwhelming at best. My wife's "oat crusted chicken" tasted like a dry granola bar with a thin layer of dry chicken inside. Even the "rum butter" tasted like apple butter from out of a jar. However, the butter did help to offset the dry chicken. Her sides of squash and potatoes were very tasty as part of an otherwise sub-par meal. I'm not sure other menu item choices would be that much better. We originally had an outdoor reservation for a bachelorette party at Mountain State Brewery and they let us know about 2 hours prior to our time that they'd no longer be able to accommodate and would be moving us inside. Even though 5 out of 6 of us were fully vaccinated, we preferred to eat outside. A friend found MoonShadow and easily made a reservation. I'd never even heard of this place and we go to Deep Creek every year. What a nice little hidden gem! Outdoor seating with heaters was available and they spaced the parties out. There were also 2 fire pits going with chairs arranged around them. The menu is quite eclectic and we ordered a variety of entrees and appetizers. They gave us the cutest little dishes to use. My only complaint was the Dijon mustard Brussels sprouts was a small portion for the price. Overall we had a great experience here and I plan to go back when we return for our family trip this summer. read more

Ordered the moon burger and let me tell you what, it was cooked a perfect medium rare (most places under or over cook medium rare) and the sauce that was on it....I hope they sell it in jars cause it was FANTASTIC! We were going to skip MoonShadow this year but they are one of the few restaurants open on Tuesday. The outdoor seating is now a covered patio and leaves a lot to be desired. The back is actually somewhat messy. The food is overall underwhelming. The mushroom panini fell apart and was soggy as the mushrooms were huge and chewy. The portions are also in the smaller size.
