No contractor's or handyman's license. Not bonded or insured. Quotes a cheap price, then keeps asking for more money. He'll destroy your garden hoses and spray nozzles because he uses YOURS, not his. His crew broke a glass patio table and wooden donkey cart and then Jose acted like they didn't. In March, he told us he would paint our very small rental property for $5,000 (labor only; we spent over $1,000 more on all the paint, brushes, tape, plastic, etc. We paid for it all. Then 5 days later he asked to "borrow" $2,000 to pay his workers. We trusted him and gave him the money; afterwards, he acted like he didn't know what we were talking about. When I sent him a screenshot of our Zelle payments, he ignored us. Now he's blocked our number. Oh! And one day while he was working with his crew, he called and told us he "forgot" his wallet and didn't have money to feed his crew. So we spent $50 on sodas and lunch and delivered it. Always asking for ice, coffee, donuts, etc. Jose and his crew left a mess when they finally finished; cigarette butts and trash all over. They broke a fixed lock on a gate; just left it lying on the ground. Wires left dangling up high on the fascia, left the address tiles lying in a heap. Completely unprofessional. I feel terrible that I recommended Jose to a neighbor. He left a mess there, too. Cigarette butts. Metal decor falling off the exterior walls. My neighbor took a pic of one of Jose's workers sound asleep under a tree all afternoon. Just horrible. Do not hire this guy.

I hired Stan with StoneRidge Home Improvements to do a bunch of handy work around my home and it…read moreturned out to be one of the biggest mistakes I have made in awhile. After obtaining quotes from several other companies, Stan's hourly rate seemed competitive and he also had a few 5-star reviews on Yelp. After reviewing them, it seems people have hated him for simple small jobs. When I submitted the request through Yelp, I submitted pictures and provided a detailed description of what was needed: installation of door hardware on cabinets, a TV stand, and a chest of drawers, assembly and installation of a fandelier, adjustments on my dishwasher and refrigerator, and relocation of an electrical outlet. After submitting the Yelp request, Stan contacted me through Yelp and we scheduled a phone conversation where I explained everything to him. He stated what his hourly rate was. On Monday October 16, 2023 I text messaged Stan to ask how many hours he thought it would take to complete all the work and he replied with, "A few hours." On Wednesday October 18, 2023 Stan arrived at my house at approximately 10am with just a drill in his hand. He stated that he needed to go back to his truck to get more tools. I'm not quite sure why he didn't arrive with his tools ready to go, other than to milk the clock and drive up the cost. I showed Stan the kitchen and explained what needed to be done. I also had him install a knob on a dummy "drawer" by my kitchen sink. Now, on my kitchen cabinets, the owner had installed knobs, so one hole was already drilled. All Stan needed to do was measure 6" from that hole, drill, and install the pull. With the hinges, those holes were already drilled and he just needed to install a soft close hinge over the exising one. Other companies I obtained quotes from said this work would take them 1-2 hours. I work from home so I left the door unlocked for him and went upstairs to get back to work. About 90 min. later I went downstairs to check on him, thinking he'd be almost done. When I went downstairs I saw Stan was only about halfway done and several of the pulls were crooked. I also saw his tools laid out right on top of my granite, not on a towel or drop cloth. I did not see a level, template, tape measure, or blue tape displayed and it seemed he was just eye-balling things. I pointed out the crooked handles to him and he tried to say that it was because of the shadow. I ran upstairs to grab my level and showed him that several were WAY off. How do you show up to someone's house and drill permanent holes into their expensive cabinets and not measure or use a level to make sure things are straight?! I find that to be highly unprofessional! --It gets worse-- A little before 1pm, he still wasn't done (after three hours) and he said he had to leave and pick up his son and would be back in about an hour. About 75 min later he arrived back and got back to work and finished the kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets at around 4pm. Yep, 5 HOURS TO INSTALL PULLS AND HINGES and more than half the work was already done for him! Not to mention, he said ALL the work would take a few hours and he didn't even get to the other 7 things on the list. HE ALSO CHARGED ME FOR THE TIME IT TOOK HIM TO CORRECT HIS MISTAKES! I find this to be an extremely poor business practice and highly unprofessional. Additionally, THE KNOB ON THE DUMMY DRAWER IS NOT CENTERED because he didn't measure anything and it looks awful. Lastly, one of the kitchen cabinet doors doesn't shut and is way higher than the one next to it. Several of the kitchen cabinet doors are not level and he told me he would level everything. How do you level something when you show up without a level? He also left a huge mess for me to clean up, saw dust was everywhere and he said he'd clean up. I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED and do not recommend this business at all. I attempted to work this out with Stan and he offered no reasonable resolution. I have to hire another handyman to fix his work and complete the rest of the work that he didn't get to. He purposely milked the clock as 5 hours to install cabinet pulls is a complete and total rip off. Plus he charged me to fix his mistakes, which is not right. He is not equipped for this type of work and was grossly unprepared not having basic tools like a level, a tape measure, and blue tape to mark things. His response below is full of a bunch of inaccurate info and mistruths.

I was in need of finding an honest, prompt, and affordable Contractor…read more Travis was highly recommended to me by a friend who's used him several times for his studio design. I also had a chance to check out his Yelp reviews and thought they were pretty consistent and so I called. I own an airbrush tanning studio in Phoenix and needed to create more efficient lighting where I tan my clients to avoid any shadows on their skin, especially at night. I also needed to install an exhaust fan to help with the overspray of organic tanning solution that tends to spread throughout my studio. Speaking to Travis over the phone for the first time, I knew I had made the right decision. I was extremely impressed that he had already done some research on exhaust fans even before speaking to me thanks to my friend who had given him a heads up that I'd be calling! Not a lot of people would take the initiative to do some research even before speaking to their potential client, but Travis did. I felt like we were already off to a great start and within a few days, we met at my studio so that he could see how everything would flow. He showed up on-time, was extremely helpful, insightful, and professional. Within one afternoon, Travis had installed my lights, plus another set of unexpected track lights last minute, and though we concluded the fan he ordered wasn't strong enough for my studio space, he didn't charge me for it. He also covered my desk and retail shelves with plastic to avoid any dust getting anywhere and vacuumed the floors after he was done. Long story short, hire Travis. His rates are fair, he's prompt, clean, attentive, honest (had saved receipts for everything he purchased) and does an incredible job well done. Without a doubt, I will be using Travis again in the future.

I'm…read moregoing to copy/paste the last review I gave because it's still true and it appears (based on newer reviews) that Alex continues to do sub-standard work. He has also created other Yelp profiles in an attempt to evade the consequences of the negative reviews that keep piling up. As you'll see below, there is lots of effort put into avoiding consequences rather than actually dealing with the problems that Alex's sub-standard work creates. Here's my last review with some edits for clarity: Caveat emptor. Alex was hired to fix a flat roof that didn't drain. He quoted, was the lowest price (red flag missed), and we paid a deposit and agreed to a start date. That date came & went and we had to call and text before we got a reply with an excuse (2nd red flag missed). This was the first of many, many text/call attempts. Most were not returned. Those that were returned had lots of excuses (got a new phone, sickness, etc.). In the end, there was much more effort put into offering excuses than doing work or solving problems. Eventually, Alex's crew came out to do the work. They said they were finished about a week later than they promised when they showed up (more excuses and reasons instead of performance). Alex requested payment of the balance that day. I took a hose up on the roof to test their work and it still didn't drain. I sent Alex a video and he said he would come out to fix it. The next time it rained, the roof leaked. It had not leaked before - only didn't drain. So Alex's company left the roof worse than it was when they started. The next few months were full of many promises to fix the roof, but nothing changed. Alex eventually said it needed a drain installed and we agreed, hoping that was the answer. Now there's an ugly PVC pipe sticking out of the front of the house and the roof still leaks. Alex has stopped responding at all. The leak has caused $1,000s of damage to insulation, drywall, and left 1/2 the garage unusable. I hope this is a caution - it's a roll of the dice if you hire Spartan roofing.
