Great fried chicken and waffles! We we're there recently for a Father's day brunch. Good Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's. The kitchen was jammed up but we were in no hurry. Located in Woolwich. The food and service here never disappoint. Went to lunch here with friends. We sat in the bar area. Our server/bartender Beth was outstanding. She was friendly, prompt and professional and also quite busy managing the bar, mixing cocktails, taking and delivering food orders. I ordered a burger($14), cooked medium. The burger was 8 oz. mixing short rib and Chuck beef accompanied with LTO on a brioche bun and fries. The burger was superb, the cook was spot on and the meat flavorful and juicy. Not your run of the mill burger!! The fries were hand cut chips, crispy and piping hot. Every one ordered something different, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad encounter. Highly recommend!!! read more

The food was delicious and the seafood was fresh - highly recommend the crab cakes, fish tacos, and the fish and chips. The decor is cozy and spacious. The service is warm and friendly. The bathrooms were clean with good facilities for babies. All in all a perfect road trip pitstop. read more

We were very disappointed with the food on our recent visit and will not return again. Three of us ordered French Onion Soup. After waiting a ridiculous amount of time (midday/not busy), our soup was brought to the table cold and tasted like water with some onions added. We returned all three. Two of us ordered the exact salad but one salad was double the size of the other and the smaller one was missing half the toppings - it was a $16 salad with some lettuce. We are extremely disappointed, wasted good money on crappy food, and had our much anticipated lunch with family ruined. You'd think with complaints at the table, we'd at least have a manager or chef visit the table, but of course not. Keep driving down Route 1 if you come upon this place - McDonaids would have been a better option. read more

Don't sleep on this place! If you've ever driven by it on the way to... wherever you're going, stop here!! It's literally everything you want in a restaurant. Excellent service! Jewel our server is full of personality and took great care of us. The bartender is awesome, and somehow remembered everything we ordered the last time we were in (to be fair, it was only a week ago) The burger, chicken sandwich (fried and grilled) were both excellent. The bacon wrapped scallops were yummy. There was trivia one night and live music on another, it never swayed the ambience and always felt like we were still at a fine dining restaurant. When we left, 3 people thanked us on the way. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, it's clean and there's outdoor seating!! The bathrooms were consistently clean and well stocked. Located off Hwy 1 in Woolwich. Always passed by this place to/from Midcoast trips and saw lots of cars so we decided to stop. Food was good. Had garlic bites as appetizer and Scallop Carbonara and my husband had the boneless fried chicken. Service was lackluster. Took 45 min to receive garlic knots, hour for food. Saw others who came in after us receive food way before we did. I think something happened with our order. They had spaced out seating so restaurant wasn't full and plenty of staff. No drink refill. Desserts looked good, but after that nightmare of a wait for food and being the forgotten table (though we were in a highly visible table) we decided to pass. Nice interior decor, outdoor seating area looked cute. Maybe call ahead for reservations. Lots of hand sanitizer to keep people safe. It has been years since stopping here and I am glad we did. The Clam Chowder was very creamy and full of clams. The haddock and fries were very good and the service was excellent. It was a bit more pricey than I expected, but everything is going up these days. I was surprised that we were offered to swap fries for coleslaw, but for a fee. A few weeks ago we stopped in for a quick bite heading back to Portland and we were more than pleased! The interior is warm, cozy and unique. The onion soup was excellent as well as the fish and chips. We shared a yummy side salad to start. All of the food going by looked delicious. I had one of their signature frozen cosmos and is worth going back for. All of the staff was attentive and friendly. One of our new favorite places to stop as we travel Mid coast Maine! read more

We usually eat here when we stay at the motel up the street on our yearly vacation to Maine. It never fails to be excellent. Three of us shared two dishes...schnitzel and halibut and it was the perfect amount of food. With five drinks the bill came to a reasonable 115.00. Both meals came with bacon, deliciously crispy potatoes and enerything was very well seasoned. Service was attentive. I love that the food isupscale and the decor comfortably rustic. This excellent dining establishment has it all: stellar service; refreshing cocktails; delicious food; and a comfortable seating area to relax and enjoy your experience. Start with some fresh local oysters. Served simply with a mignonette and house-made cocktail sauce, these perfectly cleaned, briny beauties sing with the flavor of the sea. Slurp them down with an expertly mixed libation from the bar or a crisp glass of wine. While perusing the menu online, I noticed only two items specifically marked gluten free. When I inquired of our wonderful server, Dominique, if anything else on the menu could be made GF, I was overjoyed to find out that Montsweag Farm offers GF flatbreads and GF buns, which expanded my options considerably. Since I'd never seen anything like it on a menu, I ultimately chose the lobster and brie flatbread. What a luxurious treat! I can only imagine it's even better with the regular flatbread. All our party enjoyed their lunches. Highest praise came for the chicken wings, lobster stew, and the fried haddock sandwich, and the onion crisps and fries were deemed quite tasty. read more

This place is just great. The majority of places you can stop in on route 1 on the coast are overpriced toursit traps. While this place could certainly get on that train, they don't. They cater to the local crowd, and they have something on the menu for everyone. The staff is very friendly and the space is beautiful. As someone at the bar said to me tonight, you can find half the town of Bath in here on a Friday night. I've been here many times over the years when my travels bring me out this way, and I am always sure to have at least one meal here. Ownership has changed, and the menu changed, but the quality and the service did not. 5 stars all day, every day! read more

I had dinner at this restaurant while visiting Wiscasset over the weekend on a recommendation from family who lives locally, we actually went twice!! So safe to say we were fans! The decor and surroundings themselves were so homey and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious, I am dreaming about the Haddock sandwich still! Truly the only complaint was the size of the salads which a few members of our party ordered was slightly disappointing. But they said that the flavor was fantastic and the shrimp they added was big and delicious! We also had the crème brûlée for dessert which I am also still dreaming of and probably will be for a while!! The service was fantastic, we absolutely loved our waitress! The whole atmosphere was wonderful; and I am sure we will be back next time we are in town visiting!! read more

Spotted this place while driving south and saw lots of cars. Decided to try it. Got a good parking spot and found the place to be nice inside. I opted to eat outside. They have a small outdoor space in the back that is inviting. Nice plants and trees. Unfortunately, you do hear the traffic on US-1 and there is a vent for the kitchen nearby. However, I was enjoying being outside on a nice day. The waitress was attentive. I was planning on a lobster roll but when I heard they cost 34 dollars I decided not too. The waitress suggested the whole lobster instead for 22. I went went that. The presentation was nice-see photo. I was wondering what the dark stuff was in the bottom of the melted butter so I didn't use it. There was a nice container of fried potatoes that was tasty but they were barely warm. There was a generous serving of bland coleslaw-tasted like cabbage with plain mayo. I ate the lobster claws that were good. Then I took off the tail and discovered that the lobster was undercooked! Wow so happy we drove here from Boothbay Harbor for an anniversary dinner tonight. First of all the interior is so nice. Our waitress was helpful, friendly and attentive. They have a nice outdoor patio with umbrella tables as well. We ordered the salmon dish over quinoa with grilled veggies and a slice of peanut butter pie for dessert. Our meals were incredibly delicious as was our decadent dessert. The manager asked us if we were happy on our way out. Yes!! read more

This restaurant is so pleasant to visit. They have several different seating areas. My friend and I came at lunchtime and were seated in the bar area. Very nice bar with plenty of seating. There are several TVs to watch sports. They have extensive cocktail options including wine and beer( many rotating options on draught). There are many options at lunch with a lot of value. I had the Montsweag burger. It was an absolutely perfectly cooked medium burger that was an 8 oz blend of brisket, short rib and chuck beef served on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato and onion. It was so juicy and flavorful. You could also add different types of cheeses and even bacon all for a nominal up charge. Their fries are thick slices of potato sliced like chips with crispy edges. I did also share the peanut butter cheesecake with chocolate drizzle. This was to die for. It was outsourced from a local bakery in Boothbay. This must be a popular option as I overheard another patron ordering a slice to go. The menu is extensive so good luck picking your meal. You can't go wrong with anything that you order here. We heard there was a new menu at what had become one of our favorite local restaurants and we were eager to try it. When we arrived, we also learned that a new chef had taken over. Even though our favorite dishes were gone, the menu sounded pretty good... that is until we got our food. If I had to use just one word to describe it that word would be greasy, really greasy. And if you let me have a few more words they would be lacking flavor, except of course the flavor of grease. I ordered the empanadas and a cup of the corn haddock chowder. The chowder was passable, but nothing to write home about. The only positive thing I can say about the empanadas is that it was a large portion for a starter. The empanadas spent far too long in the fryer, arriving to the table almost burnt. The filling lacked any discernible seasoning and the chimichurri sauce was a sad mix of herbs floating in oil. I only managed to choke down about half of one empanada. I love food, but I'm not a snob about it. I'm just as happy in a total dive as I am in a joint with crisp, white tablecloths, as long as the food is worthy of my time and money. The current owners had turned what had been an okay restaurant into a local gem, but these recent changes are so disappointing, I'm not sure we'll be back. read more

Montsweag has been in it's location for many, many years and I'd never gone in. My wife and went for a visit a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful time sitting at the bar. The crowd was a great mix of locals and tourists, there was live music, and the food was excellent. We will definitely be going back. read more

Went out to eat in January when I discovered my first two options were closed for the month. I thought Montsweag closed for the season and was thrilled to discover they were open. It was the weekend, they were really busy, but we were seated right away. Had GF vegetarian options - yay! Was very pleased with the food, ambience, prices, and service. read more

Wow. I mean wow. We have eaten our way along the coast of Maine. To the point where I feel like Violet in Willy Wonka, and I have turned into a blueberry, needing to be sent to the squeezing room. Between blueberry pie, muffins, cobbler, ice cream and scones, it's a lot of blueberries. They are so good though. And Lobstah! Lotsa lotsa Lobstah!! We decided to try this place out and what amazing staff. First off when workers are tired and understaffed and overworked, it's so nice to be taken care of by cheerful happy attentive staff! Great job to all that work here!! With all the lobster we have been eating I decided I wanted to eat some meat! I love Osso Bucco, so I tried the pork shank. Wow. It was sooooo tender and flavorful. It melted in my mouth! The mashed potatoes and veggies were fantastic! The haddock was light, flaky and not fishy, just full of great taste! I can't say enough good things about the fried chicken! I am from Kentucky, so, you know, we know chicken, and this was delicious. It's a wait to eat here, and it's worth the wait.
