Our AC went kapoot on the first hot day this year. We called the company from a sticker on the unit left some time in the past. They arrived and determined within 10 minutes that we needed a new system which they would gladly install for $6500. But hey, we'll throw in a Nest thermostat for your troubles. Alex came out and spent over an hour diagnosing the problem which even included going under the house to check wiring. Replacement contactor and one pound of charge...BAM we wchilln! Our A/C stopped working and I contacted Monteros to see if they could come out and diagnose the problem. They were super responsive and I got the confirmation for service right after confirming the date and time via email. What I liked was that they gave us a half hour time window. Saturday morning, February 11th, our furnace stopped working, it needed a new heater motor. Called + emailed 5 places (recommended from Nextdoor & Yelp), with all information, everyone wanted to charge $75 to $179, to come out and look. I said it would be best to see if they could get the part, as we knew what we needed. Thankfully, we found Claudio Monteros, he came to our home, took the old motor, and said he would find a replacement. So he did, it was express shipped from San Diego, to SF Bay area, and when it came in earlier than expected, Claudio came to our home 4pm (instead of 11am next day) and did the installation with professionalism, and the kindest personality. This is a 50 year old furnace, from the days they were made to last, and Claudio never mentioned to get a new heater, he knew this could be fixed... Amazing... Michelle in the office is kind and helpful, and their prices are Great. I had water leaking from my Air circulator unit and received different diagnosis including $12k by a different company who flat out told me to replace the entire system. Claudio Monteros came out to my residence, asked me some very specific questions to understand the issue, walked me through what he thought the problem was and why, and proceeded to remedy the issue. He also found that the blower speed was suboptimal and reconfigured the blower motor wiring which a previous company messed up years ago. Alex diagnosed the problem (blown capacitor) and replaced the broken part. Picture this. It's (California) cold (so like 50°) and your significant other is freezing. While you believe in the virtues of long sleeves, he believes in a sauna experience. So you finally crank up the heat (by 2°), hoping to surprise and delight him when he arrives home when all of a sudden you get an error message from the nest saying the RH wire is disconnected. UGH. Flash forward to the next day, I call Monteros Heating and Air and Michelle is able to send Claudio out the next day. Claudio arrives impeccably on time -- I do not (thanks last minute meetings!). He graciously waits for me until I arrive and inspects my unit. He pops open the wires. Everything fine. He checks the wires and hoses. Still great. Then he checks the switch and ... it's off. Wait, there's a switch?! He flips it back on and lo and behold, heat has returned once again. So let's recap. I'm late and this service call is just to flip a switch! He generously waives the fee and when I ask him if he'll ever come back if my AC goes out, he replies "of course, but you're now the 8am call!" I highly recommend Monteros Heating & Air. My furnace started making a loud knocking noise at startup, and Claudio was able to come out to visit my house on the same business day as my initial call. He helped me to debug what was going on with my furnace, and he figured out that my newly installed thermostat was configured to control the fan instead of leaving that to the HVAC unit. The fix was simply changing this setting. He also explained why this setting was causing the noise, and I now have a better understanding how my furnace works. He also refused to accept any payment for this consultation, despite having taken the time to drive to my house at the end of his workday. I highly recommend Monteros Heating & Air. Working with Claudio and his team has been an absolute pleasure. My wife and I replaced our furnace and added a central AC unit to our ~2,000sf home. After securing quotes from 5 local HVAC companies, we went with Monteros Heating & Air. Claudio and his team gave us a thorough explanation of the work that would needed to be done, our options, and when his team would be able to start and finish the project. It's worth noting that in order to have an optimally running HVAC system, we needed to increase the bandwidth of the return air line running to our heating/AC units. Claudio pointed this out to me while other vendors did not. When his quote came in, even though he was offering to perform more work than the other vendors, it was at a competitive price that was lower than many of the other quotes. During installation, Claudio and team took great care to have a minimal impact on my family. We barely noticed the installation was happening. Everything was kept clean and they were very careful moving units into/out of the house. Most importantly, the HVAC system works incredibly well. Temperatures reached 100F the other weekend and our house was kept nice and cool. The house cools very fast too. I notice that if I forget to cool the house, I can still get temperatures down very quickly (compared to other homes my wife and I have lived in). For context, I have made extensive renovations to my home and have had to work with a wide variety of contractors / vendors over the last 2 years (roughly 15 of them over the last 3 years). I've found it almost impossible to find honest, reliable, AND reasonably priced companies to perform home improvements in the Bay Area. Monteros Heating & Air is the exception. read more

After my AC failed, I called several vendors for estimates on a new one. Out of all the vendors, Claudio was the only one who said "maybe we can repair your unit. It can be something simple and it would be much cheaper than a new unit". He double-checked electrical and tried a new capacitor. Unfortunately the compressor was broken and replacing it too costly. Since we had the hood above our stove installed five years ago, it just was not extracting smoke and fumes - it seemed to be doing the opposite and almost every night our kitchen living room would smell! We were considering to replace our hood, which would have cost over $1,000. I met with 3 other HVAC companies and they just didn't seem like the right fit. Claudio and his team are very professional and very thoughtful for his customers. Do make an appointment though! He is quite busy, and I know why his customers love them! During this year's summer heat wave, our A/C was just not cooling. I made an appointment and Claudio came on time to check it out. I was thinking perhaps we needed a top-up of the coolant gas and he helped put it some, and guess what. The condensor coils sprung a leak!! Claudio took out the parts, and checked with the stores for replacement and found out that it was so expensive, and he actually took it apart to repair it himself! Saved us quite a bit from having to buy a replacement part, and also did not even charge us for the leaked gas that he put in! Now, we have great air-conditioning that kept us cool the rest of the summer.
