I just got back from my very first trip to Canby, Oregon to discover the beautiful, family-run, organic agricultural business of Montecucco Farms.
Their fresh, organically grown, meticulously handled, gently washed, hand-packed vegetables are unparalleled. I tasted the beets, parsnips, cucumbers, and green beans. They were fresh and delicious! They also have rutabagas, turnips and rhubarb. I had heard about the fresh produce that the Montecucco's ship globally but to see their farmland at the edge of the Willamette River was a sight to behold. After 114 years in business you can imagine what a well-oiled machine their production process was. Unbelievable! My grandfather grew artichokes and brussel sprouts on the Northern California coast for many, many years and visiting the Montecucco Family's Farm reminded me of how important it is to support a long-standing and respected family run farm business by purchasing their produce, telling your community to also do so, and asking your grocer to buy from them. It's the American way. If we don't do this, there will be no active family farmland left. Three cheers for Montecucco Farms! read more
