Th8s place hasn't been reviewed in quite a while, but I can confirm it still is in business! As a Buffalonian, heading out to Medina for tacos is a bit beyond off the beaten path. I firat found out about this Mexican Store and Taco Truck from locals while I was at an art exhibit that was in town. This place may very well have the most authentic taco experience in Western New York. The taco truck is parked outside of the grocery store, and you can order single tacos in steak, chicken, carnitas, chorizo, and al pastor, or buy an order of tacos, which gives you one of each! Each taco has tons of meat, along with diced onion and cilantro, and comes with lime wedges and pickled onion. Bottles of Guacamole, Roja and Verde sauces are also available, I personally love the Verde. There are a few tables outside, and a few indoors in a side room of the Store. The taco truck seems to only be open on weekends from mid May to mid October. The store is interesting as well, with a lot of fresh produce, snacks, clothes and more that you can't find at most grocery stores. read more

Monte Python met up with Dr. Alban, the singer of "It's My Life", who already had a city named after him (Albany), and they came up with this awesome Mexican grocery store with all kinds of trinkets and boots and such. This is a review of the actual store. The taco truck, which sits outside, has very limited hours, and is only open in the summer, so I will do a separate review of that when I finally get to try it. Hopefully Yelp will move the Taco Truck reviews over to the new listing once it exists. The people running it are lovely. The Mexican drinks are dirt cheap and authentic imported. Try all of the Jarritos, or try some of the Mexican coke which is made with real sugar and therefore actually tastes surprisingly... good! You can see from the pictures that the place is full of all kinds of amazing stuff. If you're ever in Medina, you must stop by. It's not a town you'd ever expect such a marvellous extensive Mexican store in, and yet, here it is. I hope they stay in business. I think they're connected to the Monte Alban restaurants in Rochester and the burbs of the 585. And of course if the taco truck is open, stop there and have a taco. You can always call this store and ask if their taco truck is open, and if not, then when. Speaking of tacos, would you like to see mine. Oh wait, I have the other thing. The Chorizo. Crazy great. I launched out to Medina with my mouthy teenagers hostage in the back seat and a friend from NYC riding shot gun. The store has hundreds of pointy sparkly cowboy boots for sale. And Mexican food imports like Abuelita hot chocolate - it's cinnamony - and chile lemon salt and a stone molcajete (mortar and pestle) shaped like a pig. I wish there were things for women in the store, I am always officially in search of my perfect white cotton embroidered shirt, and I really wanted to find hand-painted chairs. Oh well. But, the best part is the food truck that functions as a restaurant kitchen. It only has tacos and tortas and Jarritos soda. There a couple of picnic tables and a screened lean-to with picnic tables and plastic flowers and a TV showing futbol. The tacos are on chewy corn tortillas and come five to an order. They are perfectly assembled and handed-over sprinkled in fresh cilantro, and with a lime wedge and red and green sauce on the side. They're in all the regular flavors but also brain and tongue. The choritzo torta is a perfect soft, mildly spicy, cheesy unit. The hostages were silent on the way home. Full (of two rounds of tacos and orange Jarritos) and happy with nothing to complain about. And, the town of Medina is so cute! I heard from the bartender at O'Brien's that the family that owns Monte Alban also owns a restaurant in town. And that they are a mariachi band! My friend and I agreed we want to bring our husbands and go back for a sleepover so we can drink Coronas with our tacos and listen to mariachi in Medina. read more

A seriously excellent Mexican import grocery and clothing store. You name the type of product and they probably have it in this place. It's not huge by any means, but it's crammed full. They have many different kinds of dried hot peppers and every herb needed for any kind of Mexican recipe. If you don't want to use a substitute in a dish, you can find the exact thing you need here. There are coolers and freezers filled with meats, cheeses and pre-made tortilla's along with various soda's, juices and beer. Dry goods of any kind including shampoo & dish soap. Hungry for conchas (Mexican sweet bread)? They've got them. Decide to grind your own spices by hand and need a mortar and pestle? They have those. Need a pair of dressy cowboy boots? Cowboy hat? Fancy belt? Suit? Yep, they have them here too. Leave the United States and go on a mini-trip to Mexico. All you need to do is go to Medina and walk through these doors. Please note: all the reviews and pictures that mention/show hot food are actually from the food truck next door, not the grocery store. They are separate businesses. I think at one point there was only the grocery store page on Yelp so people entered their food truck reviews under the store, but each business has it's own page now. read more

Broke my heart that the taco truck was closed this weekend. If I had read Fox's review, I would have seen that it's only open in the summer. Shoot! Joley & I shopped the small store here. It was chock full of interesting things! Huge bags of corn tortillas in the freezers which was really cool! I bet they're delicious. Some produce here too, snacks, drinks, etc. The clothes and boots were awesome to browse! Not a place I'd personally go out of my way to come back to, but really interesting to scope out if you're in the area. And I'm hoping at some point, I'll get tacos from here! read more

I have driven by this store for over years, and finally decided to stop in. I was surprised to see how large it was, and the variety of products! The people are friendly, and the prices are good. My personal favorites are their juices; with the cantoloupe/melon drink mix being my all time favorite. read more

On our way home from our Buffalo experiences Saturday over Labor Day weekend we made a stop off in Medina to try one of the very few true taquerias in the WNY area. Taqueria Monte Alban is located on Rt 31 in a permanent trailer next to the affiliated Mexican grocery store and they specialize in tacos and tortas instead of the typical Mexican American fare. There are a few tables outside and a nice seating area on the side of the store with a TV trained on a Spanish station and drink cooler full of Mexican Coke and Jarritos bottles floating in ice. We ended up eating our meal in there since all the tables outside were occupied by people during the post work dinner rush. That day they had chicken, beef, al pastor and chorizo meats available and we got 6 total tacos to split between the two of us along with a Tamarindo Jarritos pop from the cooler. From what I read on the Nittany Epicurean blog out of Buffalo, they often have some of the more exotic meats like lengua and cabeza but the day we were there were only those four selections. The meats were loaded on small single wrapped corn tortillas that were a bit on the tough/dense side for us and topped with fresh white onions and cilantro which is exactly how I like them. All the meats were well salted and cooked well done although lacking some of those high end browned flavors and crispness I look for in the best tacos. My personal favorite was the chorizo which was spicy and chock full of paprika followed closely by the al pastor that was just a touch sweet and in reasonable sized chunks. Both the beef and chicken needed the supplied tomatillo salsa verde and lime squeeze to accent the meat. Even with the faults I mentioned, we really enjoyed our tacos and you can't beat $9 for 6 tacos and a drink! We also made a quick stop into the store to see what they had and although the store was pretty large, the selection was a bit less than Lorenzo's Mexican Products in Brockport. They did still have a bunch of hot sauces and a large chill cases with tortillas, cheeses and a good variety of packaged meats. We'll be coming back again to try one of their tortas and hope that the have some tongue and head meat on the menu next time.
