I've had a deeply disappointing experience with Montclair Auto Repair. Over the course of one month, my check engine light came on three separate times. The first time, they replaced a spark plug, costing me about $200. Two weeks later, the light returned. This time a $687 repair for a completely different issue. Less than two weeks after that, the light came on again. On my third visit, even though their posted opening time is 9 a.m., the technician, Randy, didn't actually show up until after 9:08. He was rude, didn't greet me, and dismissed my concerns instead of offering any apology or empathy. He handed me a paper with another new code and quoted labor costs of $160, with no parts even required. Despite their supposed warranty, I've had to return repeatedly. Each time, a new code, a new cost, and dismissive treatment. Randy even remarked that my car is old and implied I should expect ongoing issues. Yet this doesn't excuse poor service. If I could give zero stars, I would. I can't recommend this shop to anyone looking for accountability or respect. read more

I've always been sketched out about taking my car to places that were not pep boys or sears auto (when it was around) and I was always unhappy because the ridiculous prices and the bad service. I gave this place a shot for the first time last year to fix my bearings, and I was I happy with them. For the same problem pepboys wanted to charge me double. Employees here are professional, patient and understanding, and more importantly they actually know what they are doing. Got a problem under my hood recently, and I didn't bother shopping around, brought it straight here to get it fixed. Started off with a conversation on Yelp quoting out brake pads and rotors if I supplied both quoted $165.00 for installation. Appointment was scheduled in advance. Arrived a hour early to be told they only quoted the pads that the person doing the yelp quotes does not communicate with the shop. Received an onsite quote for $265.00 I drove a hour so upset and feeling deceived I was reassured by Randy he would do the repair and that it was a good price he was nice and apologetic so against my better judgement I agreed. My appointment was at 11:00 am and I arrived at 10:00 he said it would take 2 hours. Around 1:30 pm I called and checked status he said he would just now get started on my car other cars had come in. What? I had an appointment why would you take other cars after I dropped mine for a "appointment". Called back at 4:00 pm to be told it wasn't done yet needed to be drove around. At 4:30 pm I arrived to pick up my car and was told the credit card machine didn't work and I needed to Zelle him directly. After this small project turned into a entire day affair I was over it and wanted to get on the road with it being the day before to 4th so I agreed and got all his contact information. When I left and got on the freeway my car started squeaking so loud when I hit the brakes I called and texted Randy right away no reply. I called and wrote this business on Yelp and still not reply. It's still squeezing horribly loud days later and no responses from the shop or him. Something extremely shady is going on with this business avoid at all costs. I have given them days to reach out to me and still nothing. This is not okay to scam people like this! Do not trust this place at all read more

Very disappointing i that I took my car in for an oil change and to check the AC which I was told what is not working even know it turned on before I dropped it off. I think it needs some Freon or maybe recharging by and just to conclude the whole compressor needed to be replaced for $1600 because it won't turn on when it clearly does. Unfortunately as a woman, this happens often and I think for myself I know for sure he is upselling me the service because I know some things about cars and how much parts and labor cost so if you try to and charge a whole of $800 profit is insane so women to wear as the shop they will try to overcharge you read more

I requested quotes through Yelp and received a response from this "business". I called them and confirmed prices and set an appointment with this person who answered. I show up to the location at the appointment time. There was no one at the front desk and it appeared only one person was working. I wait for 5 minutes and finally I get this person's attention. He asks me "Can I help you?". I say, "Yeah, I know you're busy, but I've been waiting 5 minutes and I'm here for my appointment. " He asks " Who did you make the appointment with?" I told him I didn't remember the name. He replied, "Then you didn't make an appointment. " I tell him I have messages thru Yelp. He said, "I'm not Yelp." Funny, for a "business" (debatable from this interaction) that has a sign at the desk asking for "honest" reviews to be left on Yelp for 10% discount. It is convenient when you want bribed reviews but when it is used to confront your bad service, "I'm not Yelp". No $hit. What YOU are, is a "business" going via the sewer. He says everything is recorded. I hope that it is. See your failure to get business even when they make an appointment to give it to you.
