Great customer service, the guy who took care of me was sweet, funny and knew his stuff. Yes, I walked into the Montblanc store trying to find a gift for my Dad and only wanted to spend $100. I honestly didn't know how much one of their pens cost (starting at $325) but wanted to see what else they had. My sales guy showed me some wallets that started at $165 and said that was pretty much it. I appreciate the honesty and not trying to up-sell me OR make me feel like an idiot because I didn't know how much their stuff cost. read more

I bought a pair of Montblanc sunglasses about a year ago and accidentally scratched one of the lenses. When I called this store to ask if they can repair it, they said that they could mail it in to the repair center for me. So yesterday, when I came here I was surprised when the salesman told me that they do not do repairs and that I should go see an optometrist instead. I walked out of the store, and then made a phone call into the store asking them if they did repairs. Another salesperson, Syan, answered the phone, said yes, and quoted me $135 for it after talking to someone else in the store. So I turned around and walked back into the store to confront them. Syan told me that he didn't know the policy very well. The original salesman who denied me service told me that they don't do repairs, but they can give me a 20% credit on a new item if I returned the old item. I challenged him on why they told me different things on the same day. He then went to the back to call his manager. Syan asked me how come I came back into the store. He asked if I thought that I was being lied to. I explained to him that I checked because when I called initially I was told that they did do repairs. It never crossed his mind that it's bad customer service for them to be contradicting themselves. When the original salesman came back, he told me that the policy stays and that they do not do repairs. Syan added in that sometime they would send in the items and it would come back unrepaired. I left the store. My issue with this store: * They present mix messages to their customers. I don't know if this is due to a lack of training (poor management) or they just want people to come into their stores (dishonest salespeople). My issue with the Montblanc brand: * They do not provide maintenance on their expensive products. This was my first and and will be my last experience with the Montblanc brand. read more

Montblanc certainly got their fame with their sophisticated and expensive pens. This shop has a slew of other products that you may not have known with the brand name, such as watches, luggage, cuff links, etc. Whether or not the value is correct, you will pay dearly for anything with a Montblanc tag. The shop staff seem to be knowledgeable about their products or other brands as well. Some of them give you the impression that they judge a book by it's cover. When I walked in with my shorts and flip flops, I didn't think some of them would give me the time of day. Their lost. Meanwhile, if you are fan of the brand, then this is the store to go. It's embarrassing when a brand like Montblanc cannot hire quality people in their stores. I'm still waiting on someone to call me back to simply tell me the price of fixing my back shoulder strap which nobody seems to know. It has been over 6 months. I've called three different times. This place is terrible. I never had a bad experience at South Coast until I walked into this location. First, we walk in and two men are chit chatting in the back. The other customers, Chinese nationals, walked out because they were not getting help. After browsing their pens for at least 10 minutes they finally acknowledged my wife and I, but that was it. We finally asked them some questions about the JFK pen and the nitwit didn't know anything. We ended up buying the same pen at Paradise Pen around the corner. I mean seriously? These guys make what per hour? Seriously, don't waste your time in there. I take my Mont Blanc pens to Paradise Pen for ink refills and they have EXCELLENT customer service. They also have a great selection of Mont Blancs and other brands from all over the world. read more

It's not every day you spend $3,000 on a briefcase, notepad and pen. After a few years in practice I decided to splurge, with encouragement from my amazing wife. I've owned the gear for three years now with minimal only a few issues. Service has been generally good at the boutique, although I will say the associates are an eccentric bunch, to say the least. The briefcase: Meisterstuck Double-Gusset I searched everywhere for the right briefcase: Fendi, Gucci, Ferragamo, Bally, Coach, etc. I picked this briefcase over the competition because it had the most modern design, sleekest look, and best construction - the super soft leather contrasts well with the platinum hardware. This was the only briefcase that had the double stitched seams that are folded in on themselves for extra strength instead of just being bonded together. The briefcase goes everywhere with me M-F, and sometimes Saturday: office, court, depositions, lunches. The platinum has some minor wear but still polishes nicely, and the light scratches can only be seen upon close inspection. The leather is so soft, however, that I have unwittingly scratched it with my fingernail and wedding ring - truly tragic. One flight attendant on Southwest was so obsessed with it that he poured me several free drinks on a flight back to Orange County from an all day mediation in northern California. The first briefcase was repaired under the warranty because the lock broke after about a year - just came right off the briefcase in court one day - embarrassing. The briefcase came back from the warranty repair with a huge ding in the front. How they missed that is beyond me. So, they replaced it. The process took longer than I would have liked because they were out of stock ( a week or so). Also, the repair process took a long time and no one could give me an estimate and there was no way to obtain status - you just wait for the call. The handle on the replacement case broke a few days later, and they replaced it again. So, I'm on my third briefcase now for about a year-and-a-half. The pen: Meisterstuck Platinum Rollerball Classic It's the pen that goes with everything, and people will notice. People will ask you if it is real. People will ask you if they can use your pen. The rollerball doesn't necessarily write better than other pens, the deep blue ink is distinctive. The fit and finish of the pen is sleek and solid. Replacing refills is easy. After a few years the resin is starting to show some minor scuffing, but the platinum looks great. The notepad: Meisterstuck Portfolio Hey, it's a shiny super expensive notepad. It holds paper, and a pen. Although sometimes my pen falls out of the pen holster and into the bottom of my briefcase. Keep paper clips, stapled papers, binder clips and any other sharp metal objects away from the outside of the notepad. I scratched it with a binder clip and I'll never forgive myself. It has the same construction as the briefcase. Sign up for the emails and get VIP treatment at the boutique for customer appreciation events. They filled in my engraving on my pen last time for free and threw in a refill. It is a lot of money to spend on a briefcase, notepad and pen? Absolutely. Do people take me more seriously as a professional because of it? Absolutely. I give four stars not just because the products are great, of how the staff handled the issues with the briefcase after the associates did a great job of selling the products. read more

They have their fans, but they are over priced and fragile. Their plastic shatters. They call it "Precious Resin", but it really is just some cheap plastic they devised that's as fragile as glass - and there is NO reason that it should be. They claim its for the lightweight and scratch resistance, but there are other plastic compositions that can be that plus durable and not shatter like glass when dropped. If you're in that range, personally, there are better looking and writting pens. My favorite pens are Japanese made fountain pens due to how pragmatic they are, but they're also durable and smooth. If you must have your pens clad with gold and jewels, I would recommend visiting Paradise Penshop and looking for "urushi lacquer" pens. They are 4 times as beautiful as a Montblanc, but cost about as much. Each one being hand made, but completely unique. Montblancs aren't unique to me. They're cookie cutter. I also don't like that they nickle and dime you - very petty. They consider themselves a "life style brand" but I consider them yugos with BMW tags. Their ink also stinks - they feather easily and fade fast, but they design pretty nice bottles. As for MontBlanc's service? Let us put it this way: Are you an enthusiast? Well, they aren't. Got questions? They don't know the answers. Most of the sales people have minimal knowledge and are just trying to do a job for a company and for items they have no real interest in. read more

Seems this place has been getting some bad rep lately, but my experience has always been stellar. I've owned a couple of their standard pens (meisterstuck) and a friend turned me on to the watches. The gentleman who helped me, sorry forgot the name, was really helpful and knew a lot about the watches. I was really tempted to pull the trigger, they have a little play on the price, but I ultimately decided not to, saving for that rolex :) Overall great experience, I was dressed business casual, not sure if that made a difference but always a pleasure visiting this store. read more

I bought my Chopin fountain pen here and the service was good. The guy who was helping me didn't rush and gave me time to play with a lot of pens. However, they are not pen crazy like i expect them to be. Their penmanship is mediocre and they lack a lot of passion towards it. You can tell that they are nice sales people; but not pen collectors. I also got my ink well here, the ink is more watery than I would like, but over all it's very good. It drys quickly and the colors are vivid and deep. If you buy something (pens), they will give you free refills, just ask, you might score around 3-4 of them. I gave them 4 stars, because they lack passion towards their brand. read more

I joined Yelp so I could review my experience here. I came in to get some help with a Montblanc bag I purchased elsewhere. It was not a discontinued model. Just something they do not carry on the shelf. Anyway, I asked about some of the features of the briefcase and they started guessing what they may be. Maybe it is this? Maybe it is that? Shouldn't you know about your own equipment. I also asked for any documentation and they stared at me with a blank expression and could not even offer assistance. Mercedes Moussavinejad went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable with our shopping experience. After a misunderstanding over some products purchased at the store, there were some issues that happened with the staff when bringing them back. Customer service was rigid, unhelpful, and with a tinge of snobbery. 2 days ago I received a wallet for my birthday and went into the store to exchange it for a different design. I was expecting that whatever I pick out would of a different price point and I would either have to pay the difference or end up with a small credit that I would then use towards another purchase, either way a modest up-sell to the store. However, the associate informed me that the store has a 14 day exchange policy and since my wallet was purchased 16 days ago, "because of their computer" (whatever that meant) there was not nothing she could do. Having worked in a luxury fashion store in my prior life, I have never turned away a customer no matter what request without trying to find some resolution and offering a positive experience to the customer,often turning a return or exchange into an upscale opportunity and a loyal, satisfied client. Now being on the other side of the transaction and not receiving the level of service which I considered a bare minimum for a high-end retail, left a bad taste in my mouth. After today's experience my appreciation for Montblanc has not diminished, but when I buy the next Montblanc piece, it will be from the department store instead. read more

I am a fountain pen enthusiast. I have desired a Mont Blanc writing instrument for 5 years I have the catalogs and I have purchased medium end writing instruments to prepare me for my grand pruchase of my Mont Blanc writing instrument. The exciting day came December 16, 2017. I went to Mont Blanc Coasta Mesa. I know myself well and I didn't need much help finding what I wanted, yet the sales woman went out of her way to show me writing instruments that I had no interest in. I requested a new sales person and got Jordan Simms. I chose three writing instruments and quickly made my way to one. Mr. Simms is eager but lacks experience, not his fault, he is very young and interested in making a sale not on the experience. This will come in to play more as the story continues. I looked over the writing instrument that interested me and two other replicas they had slight variations due to the years they were produced. Roughly 3.5 hours later I had decided on my writing instrument and was ready to purchase. I was told within the first 30 days I could have the nib size changed as well as engraving on the clip, I told them I wanted engraving on the solid stainless steel body, Jordan told me he would ask his Boutque Manager Mercedes Moussavinejad. Over one thousand dollars later, I took the writing instrument home with a date of January 2, 2018 to return it for the nib size change and engraving.I had two weeks with the writing instrument it was a dream come true yet I found other anomalies. When the pen cap screwed closed the nib of the instrument was 60°+/- off from the clip of the cap. This would be important so the engraving on the body ( That was approved by Mercedes) would line up with the nib and the engraving would line up with the clip of the instrument. I was assured everything could and would be done. I was told the instrument would be traveling to Texas were the repair shop was... Texas I thought. I didn't want my instrument going to Texas. They explained that it was a certified Mont Blanc service center, that it was Mont Blanc. I accepted uneasily and without options. I was told the work would take 6 weeks I said I'll give them three months because quality was more important than speed. Two months later I receive a voice mail from Jordan saying that the instrument has returned the engraving is beautiful come pick up the instrument when I'm ready. I called saying I would be in the following day after work around 5pm. When I arrived, neither Jordan or Mercedes where at the boutique to greet me. An Asian woman whom I had never met and spoke very little English explained that Mercedes was not working. She brought my instrument out and I could see that the body had been engraved so I looked for alignment. It was not aligned. The engraving lined up with the nib but the clip was still 60°+/- off. Then I looked at my signature through a jewelry loupe and the "T" in my last name was not crossed! I was devastated and frustrated. I left the Mont Blanc and was 30 minutes in to my commute home when I received a call from Mercedes saying she was eating when I came in, that she is now at the Boutique. I returned and she explained to me how the work couldn't be done. I asked when did she relay that to me? She apologized that she didn't and that she made decision on my behalf based off her assumption. I didn't believe what she was telling me because I got a call saying the instrument was looking great by Jordan. A few more minute of fumbling for excuses she suggested altering the instrument to align the clip with the signature and the nib. I was mortified. I wanted my instrument out of that boutique as quick as possible. We ended with her promises that the instrument would be fixed she would send it back to Texas with a new body to fix the engraving. Worried about unauthorized alterations, I called Mont Blanc customer service, I spoke with Ray in Texas. After our conversation I felt my ordeal has ended. I retrieved the instrument from Mercedes and sent it to Texas without the body Mercedes offered. I was mistaken. A few days after Ray receives the instrument he insults my intelligence by saying that the Mont Blanc service center can not engrave the body of the instrument even though I returned a writing instrument with body engraved by Mont Blanc service center. I requested for Ray to complete the work that was promised. I received an invoice today with very little information, I called Mont Blanc customer service and demanded to speak with a supervisor, none where available so I am expecting Mont Blanc Customer Service Supervisor, Davisha to contact me today. I was excited to experience the Mont Blanc craftsmanship, quality and elegance, instead I have endured a nightmare, poor showing Mont Blanc! Please fix this issue as you promised!! read more

Bought my husband a Valentine's Day gift and when I brought it home, he didn't want it. I called the same day to see if I can return it and I was told they only do exchanges. I can understand maybe a week or two, but literally within a few hours of purchasing, I wasn't able to return. That's a crappy policy and definitely deters me from wanting to purchase here again. There were 4 people behind the counter, none of them acknowledged me or greeted me even when I asked for help. I stood there patiently for them to complete their transaction with the first customer. The 2nd customer was shocked to find that her Valentine's gift that she placed an order for was never even processed. The sales person told her that the worst time to shop at their store is Valentine's day and that she should come back another time! Another woman walked in and one of the salesman ran to her service walking right past me. Let me start off this review by saying that I RARELY go to Orange County and after a ridiculous experience at Louis Vuitton (my review is on my Yelp account) some years ago I have not been back to South Coast Plaza until two days ago. I think it is ridiculous this entire notion of "high end" luxury goods sales snobbery. It's an item that someone is purchasing and to be quite frank, should not be surrounded by all of this haughty pretense. All of that foolishness makes me nauseous. (went on a bit of a rant, but I had to get that in).... Anyway, I love to write and am a bit pen and stationary obsessed. A friend of mine gifted me a a Mont Blanc pen this past Christmas and I was in love! I always knew the brand existed, however was never interested enough to go in and investigate further. My dad always wrote with Cross and Parker pens and so those were the brands to which I gravitated. I was actually dreading the visit to this Mont Blanc store due to my aforementioned issues, however, I decided to go anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Jason Wang, a very nice young man who asked me how he could help me. I explained to him that I knew very little about Mont Blanc beyond my use of the beautiful pen I was gifted. All I knew is that I wanted a ball point pen. Jason was very professional, knowledgeable and patient as I looked at several different pens. I explained that I wanted a pen with a bit more weight to it that felt substantial in hand. He immediately brought over the JFK from the Great Characters Collection. After writing with that pen...oops sorry, Writing Instrument...I was sold. It was love at first sight. (Also, a very nice lady offered me sparkling water. I accepted. That was very nice). I made my purchase and had a great overall experience. I am by no means a "high end" person. I like what I like whether it be a gel pen from Typo for $1.99 (which I own several of and LOVE by the way) or a Mont Blanc pen. If I love it and it is within my budget, I simply purchase it. I am sorry that so many had negative experiences in this store, but I totally understand it. Maybe I just got lucky the day I went but when I write reviews I truthfully report how my experience was on that given day. Boooooooooooooo! Don't waste your time or had earned cash at this place. I give the inside of the pen I bought 2 stars because it never let me down. I give the outside of the pen - 5 stars as it shattered into a billion pieces in front of my eyes on day one of use. Gentlemen at the story listened to my tail of dropping pen from a height of 18 inches but insisted that they couldn't "accept" every story a customer had about breaking a pen. . . So their policy appears that their policy here is that the customer is always lying. . . If you're going to spend that much money on a pen you should be able to throw it as hard as you can against the ground and then pick it up unscathed.. This thing slipped off of a stack of court papers and shattered like a champagne glass. I understand the Mont Blanc crowd is looking for a much nicer pen but this place is terrible. A pen shattering shouldn't be classified as a cosmetic problem that i have to pay $70 unless these pens are for show only?? If you want a pen for writing go somehwere eles. There is also no return policy whatsoever. Bottom Line is this place is way overpriced and has terrible customer service. I'll give that guys 1 star for not being dickheads I mean they didn't make the policies . The pen was really great for about 25 minutes. The company is a sham though. read more

For a premium retailer I can only express astonishment at the complete lack of customer care and service from the South Coast Plaza store location. I have had my writing device into the store on three separate occasions for repair. I have had the device repaired a fourth time at a Houston store, but as the person did the work on the fly, this fourth repair does not count toward my pens repair history from the Mont Blanc perspective. While the store has been gracious enough to repair my pen for the fourth (third time officially) time for no charge, what has been told to me would be a two week process has turned into six weeks. I cannot seem to get on the list for return phone calls for my messages. If I leave a message on the stores voice mail machine I get the excuse that "our machine was down" when I call in or stop by the store for follow up. Given that I live in Los Angeles, and return to the South Coast Plaza store as this is the location where I have had recurring repairs for my pen (recall the Houston item), I am just not satisfied with the poor excuse. Or, if by chance, as is the case today, I take a break from my own office work to dial into the South Coast Store, the person answering the phone requests that I call back in 10 mins when the store is open. Really? Why are you answering the phone in the first instance? To achieve status as a premium retailer it goes without saying that Mont Blanc in the first instance is recognized as a premium manufacturer of quality writing instruments. Given the quality of manufacture Mont Blanc is known for throughout the world I am at a loss as to why they Mont Blanc refuses to accept responsibility for a poorly built pen by way of replacing the device. Four repairs on a Mont Blanc pen strikes me as a bit absurd. I am not in the street playing stick ball with this thing afterall! Mont Blanc also refuses to get their customer support manager on the east coast, Brett Murphy, on the phone to have a conversation. When I dial the number the South Coast Plaza store manager provides to follow up on this issue, the person answering the phone will tell me Mr. Murphy is there, query me as to my issue, and suddenly Mr. Murphy is at lunch. I have never been so absolutely disappointed with a retail service as I have with Mont Blanc and the experience of foolishly purchasing my writing device from them. As I mentioned to this gentlemen querying me as to Mr. Murphy's potential call this morning, "I took the time to care enough about your product to actually purchase it. I surprised to know that no one I seem to encounter on my customer experience journey seems to care too very much for that". I am disappointed that I have to any star at all for a Yelp rating for Mont Blanc. Absolutely horrible customer service, shoddy product that they do not care to take responsibility for, and just a bad decision all around on my part to purchase this pen. I have been a long time Mont Blanc owner with a number of pens purchased over the years. So disappointing! read more

Uncommon example of exceptional customer service, going well above and beyond to fix a problem. I had a double gusset briefcase that was great, but the lock started slipping. Sent it in for a repair through this store. After corporate Montblanc had many-month delays in getting a part from Germany, Mercedes got word and stepped in. She found the same bag for me and worked a replacement within days. I couldn't be more impressed. It's great when a manager recognizes a problem, truly cares, doesn't give you the runaround, and does what it takes to fix it. I love this briefcase and use it every day. I will return to this place every time I need a gift or a bag! read more

Buyers Beware! Opt to buy on their website or another store that carries Montblanc, like Bloomingdales or Nordstrom. The store itself does not allow any refund for returns. They only offer store credit or exchanges. For such a strict policy, you would think they would communicate this to their paying customers. For someone who's never bought anything from the store, and the clerk knew this, I would have appreciated that information. Their online website has a 14day refund policy. But their boutiques do not carry the same policy. And per SA who assisted me with the "return", they're a different entity. It's the same company, so this is very deceiving. It is very disappointing for a well known company to have such conflicting policies on their website and physical stores. So please save yourself some time and just order online. read more

I have had difficulties with Montblanc quality in the past, but I'm giving this store five stars because Mercedes has always done everything possible to assist me and provide me with the service one would expect for the price of the products. In searching for a nice gift for my son's college graduation, I called Montblanc at South Coast Plaza to see if this location offered engraving. I had just arrived from out of town and was passing this location the next day. Thank goodness Jordan Sims answered the phone. Not only did he help me select the perfect pen (color and engraving ideas), I was able to stop by the next morning and pick up this beautiful gift (engraved and gift wrapped) before noon. With my hectic schedule I was more than pleased. I received beyond excellent customer service and I highly recommend that if you are in need of a special gift ... this is the place ... ask for Jordan Sims! read more

Montblanc practices legal theft! Don't ever buy a gift there because your recipient will be unable to return it for the money. Everything is so expensive that it is overwhelming when you find out you have a $600 credit and can't buy anything but a pen!! Crooks. read more

I'm writing today about my disappointing and frustrating experience at Montblanc at South Coast Plaza. I came into the store multiple times, and I emailed about my inquiry and received no response to my needs. I had purchased a watch strap over a month ago, unsure of the size, I bought it and they assured me that if it did not fit, I would be able to exchange it for a correct size. The second time I came in, I was helped by a wonderful lady, I only had a half hour to inquire about a watch strap, but when she asked another colleague, Mercedes, she was VERY rude and snooty to me. A day before the "2 week exchange policy" I went in again only to be told by an incompetent man, who seemed to be either in training or completely clueless, asked his colleague, Richard, I believe to help me out. After about 20 minutes, he was able to place an order and said that the strap would arrive by December 17th, they said they would contact me with details. I even asked Richard, if it would be okay to exchange the watchstrap because by the time it gets in-it would be passed the 2 week mark. I followed up a few times over the phone, asking for the whereabouts of the watch strap. Again, was greeted with the infamous line, "we will contact you". I then went to the Mont Blanc store to gain information about the watch strap. I went in, and the same incompetent man said he remembered me and took out the paper with my watch information on it, and asked someone ELSE to help me out. The lady proceeded to help find my watch strap because "it may be in the back", she came out 10 minutes later and asked if I would be shopping around the mall, and that they would call me when they found it. Low and behold, no phone call was received. I found it quite quixotic that Mont Blanc associates are not aware of their intakes. After I explained my problem to the lady, she proceeded to give me all kinds of excuses that it takes months for watchstraps to come in because they are coming from Italy-this is understandable, but Richard had told me that this strap was available in New York and that it was coming from there. It boggles my mind, that she did not fact check and was making up excuses to get me out of the store. Furthermore, if a customer that is paying good money and wasting their time dealing with these types of associates, then I'm sorry my money will be better spent elsewhere. Mont Blanc should consider focusing more on customer satisfaction. It didn't stop there, I proceeded to call customer service about this matter after the day it occurred, and again I was greeted with a "we will contact you". After not receiving any information, I'm stuck here with a watchstrap that does not even fit and an experience that has tarnished the pedestal I kept Mont Blanc on. It used to be my go to shopping store, for my boyfriend, but after today, I'm beginning to reconsider. read more

The Montblanc store is symptomatic of what that revered German company has come to. Montblanc produces the finest pens in the world, but since pens aren't in demand as they once were the company has listened to the venture capitalists that may now control it and turned into a lifestyle company. Of course that means everything is an order of magnitude more expensive and further away from the core expertise. The response is then to hire a few attractive millennials to flatter the customers and massage their wallets, and you have the new Montblanc. If you feel like you need that validation then by all means patronize the Montblanc store, if not, then walk on by and avoid the feeling of moral superiority that the Montblanc minions will try to instill on you . I called in to inquire about a Mont Blanc portfolio for my father. The sales associate did not have it in stock but volunteered to call me back "within an hour" to let me know if it can be ordered. He called me back three days later. I appreciate the effort, but expect more timely service. I also went into the store a couple days ago to pick up a wallet for my husband. Service here seems very forced and fake. The staff was very unknowledgeable about their own products. I prefer the location at the Beverly Center in LA. I'd rather just research their products myself and order online. read more
