Best hot dog in Seattle! Huge props to the guy running this stand. He was very personable, and you could tell he was really committed to keeping the line moving. I tried this hot dog when I wasn't even drunk or starving or anything, and it was amazing. It's sliced and grilled, which really bumps up the flavor. The bun is soft and a little chewy. It's hard to find good grilled onions. A lot of times they just don't have any flavor. These tasted great, and they also still had some crunch, so they weren't just goo. The Seattle Dog is all about the cream cheese, which sounds sketch, but it works, oh-so-well. The hot dog is split in half and cooked over an open flame and is placed on a thick stadium bun, smeared with cream cheese and sauteed onions. I personally like my Seattle Dog with jalapenos and Sriracha, as both of these accompaniments are here at the stand, in addition to other toppings like sauerkraut, diced onions, mustard, etc... Listen, I'm holding Monster Dogs up to an impossible standard: A summer of my life in New York when I met a boy and we went to Crif Dogs and hung out in the Village or had late-night uptown Gray's Papaya, and I spent a lot of drunken nights singing karaoke off of 14th Street. The only thing that Monster Dogs has in common with the aforementioned time in my life is drunken hot dog cravings. But unlike Crif Dogs they don't have deep fried hot dogs or dogs with crazy names like Jersey's Finest or the Spicy Redneck. What they do have is friendly, fast service, cream cheese on their dogs, toasted buns, and lots of drunken [fill in choice derogatory term for excessively wasted youngsters here]. If you are in the Belltown area, Monster Dogs is a must for a late night snack! It is the perfect craving after a night of drinking. It's even a great snack after a late night movie or anything past 9pm, since that's when they open. I'll admit that I was skeptical to having a hot dog with cream cheese, but it is quite amazing. The layer of cream cheese isn't a white blob on your hot dog, yet a slight layer added to a warm, toasted bun. I've only had the spicy hot link, but if you're into spicy food, then you should just opt for that. Everything is served fresh and there's many condiments to add onto your hot dog...they have the works. The only down side to Monster Dogs is that it's only available on Friday and Saturday nights. I recently discovered this hot dog stand while partying in Belltown. After a night of drinking and dancing, I can't resist getting a hot dog! The menu is nice and simple but all I really care about is the Seattle Dog. I love that this cart splits the hot dog and grills both sides. That's exactly how I do it at home! The grill-to-meat ratio is the best this way. Oh, and they also grill the buns! They don't have as many condiment options as other hot dog stands. Cream cheese, Sriracha sauce, grilled onions, and jalepenos on a hot dog sounds gross, but it's pretty damn delicious when you're smashed. In my non-inebrieted state, I'd say it probably has something to do with taste, texture, and temperature contrast. Note that not all Monster Dogs are equal. I grew up in Seattle as a kid, but moved down to Cali a few years ago so I never got to experience the bar scene here. After hitting up the Belltown bars with some friends, they told me that I am going to love what is coming up next: cream cheese hot dogs from Monster Dogs. What the heck are cream cheese hot dogs? I've never heard of such a thing. My friends assured me that it was a Seattle specialty that I had to try before I leave, even if it sounds gross. Being too drunk to pay for a hot dog myself, my friend bought me one to try. A polish sausage sliced down the middle, grilled onions, juicy sauerkraut, and of course cream cheese slathered onto the grilled bun. Wow... it was pretty awesome. I did not expect the different flavors to come together, but it was such a great and unexpected taste to it. The spiciness of the Polish sausage with the savory onions and sauerkraut, mixed with the texture and creaminess of the cheese was a knockout. I could probably eat this as a snack or full meal if I wanted to, but enjoying it in the moment after a night out on the town is the perfect way to end the night. Being from Chicago, I have to admit I'm very skittish and particular about my hot dogs. I also appreciate hot dogs that are different from "Chicago Dogs". However I was skeptical when told my hot dog would include cream cheese, onions, and jalapeno peppers. I should have known it would work out alright. Ordered that and a japanese dog that had chili on it. Both were amazing. I ended up taking it back to my hotel and devouring them.
