I was driving through town to pick up my daughter when my engine light came on and smoke came out of the engine compartment. I found your shop through a Google search looking for shops that were still open at 5:15pm on a Thursday. I saw that you were open until 7pm, so I lumped my SUV over. I spoke with Ty and his team, and they were so friendly and concerned for my situation. They said it may take 1-2 days to diagnose, get parts, and have it fixed. Turned out it was a cracked radiator. They were able to get parts by Friday afternoon and have the repairs finished before closing time. They proactively started disassembling the radiator and related parts to expedite the repairs and get me back on the road back to Nashville. Although I probably won't need your services again, I would highly recommend Ty and his team to anyone local or driving through. read more

First of all when you call the store to set up a appointment it sends you to a call center in who knows what state, talk to someone who you can barely understand. Needed a tire plugged l, pretty basic.. I leave work early, loosing out on pay mind you . So I show up for my appointment and the kid looks at my tire then says sorry we don't have any plug kits in stock , you can go somewhere else. Huh ?! It says on your sign " service and tire centers" I just wasted my time , you knew I was coming to get a tire plugged. I'll never go there again! read more

Well took care for brake work. Car was returned with brakes in worse shape than dropped off. I was informed were to het the parts needed to finish the repairs myself and charged for labor. I did purchase the part as directed and had brakes bleed again. With in three days we suffered brake failure on all tires. Took to garage this time. They were unable to get brake fluid out of rear calipers. Turned out the master cylinder was shot. I feel as if their work almost cost me lives. I returned later in the year with a problem with the tires being cupped bad and they told me there was nothing they could do because I didn't get the road hazard. tire warranty has nothing to do with road hazard. Absolutely horrific experience. Had exhaust leak in intermediate pipe (pipe between catalytic converter and muffler). Manager Josh said $150 to cut it out and weld in a sleeve. "Do it", I told him. He assigned the job to one of his guys and then left for the day. When the mechanic started welding, I could hear the arc welder sputtering and coughing. That meant there wasn't enough power to fully melt the steel of the of the intermediate pipe and the sleeve. IOW, the welder wasn't strong enough to do the job CORRECTLY. "Maybe I'm wrong", I lied to myself and let the kid finish the job. My inspection proved my fears. Nothing was properly welded. No proper weld puddles (bead). Instead, 1/4" to 3/8" sized balls of weld rod. Neither sleeve nor the intermediate pipe was actually welded to each other. Worse yet, the exhaust still leaked. The guys brought the arc welder back but it was useless. Only caused more balls of weld rod. And exhaust still leaked. When I said the welds were cold the guys got an attitude. One said to the other "If he doesn't like it he can go the f--K someplace else". Being the 65 year old adult, I patiently explained how the weld was wrong and why the job was wrong. It took a while but the guys calmed down and then told me the truth. "The welder hasn't been working right for a few weeks. We keep telling Josh about it but he hasn't done anything." The guys said yes, the welds were wrong. And the young man who did the welding showed me pics on his cell of other exhaust welds he'd done on other cars. They were all perfect. "So, you admit I'm right and these welds are wrong?", I asked. The young man said yes. It wasn't his fault. It was the welding machine's fault. The asst manager Damien called manager Josh at home. He told Josh "The customer isn't happy with the welds." That' wasn't exactly the truth. The truth was the welds were done wrong, the job was done wrong, and the exhaust still leaked. Josh never asked to speak with me, the customer. He shoved it off on Damien and told Damien if the job didn't fix the problem to bring it back. The problem is, the job ALREADY DIDN'T WORK, but there wasn't a WORKING ARC WELDING MACHINE TO FIX THE BAD JOB. Damien then said a welding machine was "on order" and when it came in he'd redo the job correctly. BUT he didn't know when the machine would come in! I considered not paying the $138.26 bill because the job wasn't really done and certainly not done right. I asked Damien to let me pay half now and half when the job was done. He refused. I considered not paying at all but didn't want the hassle. Damien put in writing that he'd repair the bad welds when the welder came in. So I give Damien credit there but I had to work very hard to get them to admit the welds were very, very poor and the job not done right. ** It wasn't THEIR fault. It was their manager JOSH'S FAULT. ** The exhaust leak got worse on the ride home. I called Winsted Monro. Tyler answered. "Can you have the Canton Monro shop fix the welds?" I asked. Tyler called Canton to ask. Canton said they'd fix it but the Winsted manager had to request it. That's fair enough for me. Canton has 100x better reputation than Winsted. But, Canton is a 24 mile round trip out of my way. So that adds MORE TIME TO THIS NIGHTMARE. ***** NEVER, EVER GO TO WINSTED MONRO. ***** read more

Now they took a deposit for tires and its been 4 days and the tires have still not arrived and they wont refund the deposit. Employees run through there like water through a sieve. My daughter came in for a simple oil change and left with a $377.70 bill. She was told that her battery needed to be replaced soon so they replaced it. The battery that was replaced was only a year old and still under warranty which, had they told her, could have had a warranty rebate on the remaining life of the battery. They also charged her$45.00 to replace it. Most parts stores will replace the new battery at NO CHARGE. What is this $32.26 fee? Profits to go to the repair facility. Glad she did not use the bathroom because the fee would have been higher! Waste disposal was already charged for the oil. I was upset that she even went there because these courtesy inspections are nothing more than a way to "pad" the bill. I know because I have been there and have seen how it works. read more

Dishonest I went to the Monroe Muffler store in Winsted for the first time for an oil change. I had a coupon which I had downloaded from their website. The owner refused to honor the coupon saying it was a 'misprint'. I have used these coupons on many occasions in the past at other Monroe Muffler locations and I have never had an issue. Even if it was a misprint, any business owner with integrity would have honored it because the mistake was done on their part, but not this guy. He flat out refused to honor the coupon. I've brought my jeep down here a few times recently and have dealt with George almost every time. The service at this location has always been a 5/5. The people are more than helpful and do quality work. Unrelated to today's visit, earlier this year I witnessed an encounter between George and a "less than desirable" customer. Words can't describe the level of professionalism shown by the employee towards a downright disrespectful customer. George has shown on numerous occasions that he's the definition of professional. Bill goes out of his way to strike up a conversation with any customers in the lobby waiting for their cars to be serviced. Did I mention they're open until 7pm? Super convenient if you book an appointment, and work during the day. Customer service is excellent, and this Monroe makes a huge effort to save customers money. I witnessed a hands-on demo of Bill explaining to an older couple how they tried to salvage an old muffler in their car, but it broke. Instead he got them a brand new one and didn't charge for extra labor! I could tell there were many regular customers. If you don't have a ride, the plaza it's located in has a stop and shop, Chinese restaurant, liquor store, At&t outlet, and a pizza joint to keep you occupied while you wait. I honestly wish I could rate Monro with 0 stars. I have owned 2 cars in the past and own a new one right now. I have brought my previous cars here to be worked on many times (mainly because I had a cousin who was a manager at many Monro's in the past) and they have screwed something up every single time. When you make an appointment, they don't put you in the computer right or no one knows you're showing up. When you get an oil change they don't use the right oil for your car engine, even after signing the paperwork of what you have agreed on. So, after time and time again of being disappointed, I decided to stop coming here altogether. Now that it is warming up, I need to swap my snow tires for my regular summer tires. I call Monro (yesterday) to get a quote since I did not purchase these tires here. I spoke with Mike, and he said there would only be a $20 charge and to come in around noon the next day. I thought, wow that's really cheap, and even said something on the phone with him and he reassured me to come in. So here I am today, I walk in and the guy behind the counter looks at me like I am some idiot because I believed Mike when he said it would only be $20. Now I'm being charged over $80 to swap out tires (that I already own) on my car. I also mentioned how Mike on the phone did not know what he was talking about and they should work on not quoting someone a lesser price than they are really being charged, and whoever this guy behind the counter is, did not care that he quoted me wrong. No one here wears name tags and it is clear that there is still NO COMMUNICATION throughout this facility. I gave them one more chance because they are local and I thought it was just a simple appointment, nothing they could really mess up, and now this is the absolute LAST time I will ever step foot in a Monro shop. read more

I wish I could give this place a negative -100. Never ever bring your business to this establishment. We bought tires through USAA as there are discounts to veterans. Show up to the appointment and no one has any idea of the order, how to find it, or basically how to do anything. We leave and call USAA and get the confirmation sorted and schedule a new appointment for the following Saturday. Show up to this appointment and the tires are "not in stock" and need to be ordered. No one has any record of the confirmation, and the tires were never ordered. The excuse's were short staff and new untrained staff that didn't know what they were doing. So again we leave, call USAA and report the experience. We received a call Monday and were told in fact they did have the tires in stock and they had been there for over a week. No one could explain why we were told they weren't in stock and no one ever called as they said they would to tell us they had arrived. And at this point no effort by this establishment was made to try and make it right by customer. Now we schedule a new appointment on Saturday for the tire installment. Flash forward to the end of this appointment where we leave with the tires and find out that the tire pressure sensor they used was faulty. So we call and explain and are told they can't accommodate to fix that day and have yet again have to come back the following Saturday for 9am. After being at the 4th appointment for 3 hours we are told that the sensor is not registering and they can't fix it. And then are also told that they have been receiving other complaints as well and they are faulty sensors that they just keep installing into peoples cars. And even after 4 separate inconveniences there was not ONE accommodation offered from this poor excuse of a business. We asked for a refund and were told that they don't know how to process a refund and were given a phone number to call. A little side note when we got there this morning they couldn't figure out how to bill customers and had to sit on hold with their IT to figure it out. So apparently the people who work here don't know what their doing, and when they do they're installing faulty parts that they know are faulty but simply don't care. Monro Winsted CT appointment install to TireRack tires. Employee does not want me on his property. Will not provide any service to me. Said I was rude to him when I asked him to break down the price and subsequently asked him for my tires. No one was available at Tire Rack. No one was available at Monro corporate. When I went back in to ask him to do the work, he refused, in front of customers yelling at me. I am an old man asked for assistance to get the tires into my vehicle, and employee continued to berate me in the parking lot, I felt very unsafe and humiliated with service he said he's doing very well here and doesn't need my business. He said he's been very successful his years as manager. I see he just received his training in March 2023 on the wall. I have been coming here for five decades and I'm baffled, how I was treated today. I am new to Tirerack and this process is a learning experience for me and the pricing. Did not want to listen to me. Or answer pricing questions. Tire Rack also discussed installing my tires with store today and he refused. Canton store is closed. I have nowhere to go to have my tires installed today. My tires are illegal at this point and I do not feel safe on the road or entering Monro Winsted with that employee there. I would like Winsted to install my tires. I would like Monro to call me before hand and apologize to me. I never raised my voice or said anything lewd or disrespectful at Monro. The manager seems thin skinned on a busy tire shop Saturday. I have been going to the Monro Muffler and Brake in Winsted, CT, store #308 for many years with my vehicles and I have referred many people to this store to get tires, oil changes, etc. up until recently. Currently my wife and I are not happy at all with MM and quite frankly not with MM in general after this past incident. Ok, let me explain, back in late fall-early winter of last year, both my wife and I had our snow tires that we purchased at MM and installed there along with our typical oil changes, front end alignment, etc. at the time we had our tires installed they, the current Manager Greg at that time had offered to store our summer tires there ( that we also purchased for my car in the spring at MM and my wife's car had new all season tires on it when we purchased it a month prior) as we were long time great customers. Well I made an appointment to get my oil changed and tires changed over from snows to my all seasons that were stored there for Friday March 29th 2019 at 9:00 am. I went to this appointment and when I arrived the current Manager, George, said "Dude we don't have any of your tires here". I said what? Not just my tires are here the tires off my wife's car are here!! He had me go upstairs to look with him and low and behold none of my tires were in the stock room. At this time I was livid and said what is Monro going to do for tires for mine and my wife's car? George told me that I had to call MM customer service to talk to them!! I said listen, this is not my issue and that he need to call customer service to see what they can do for us. I stayed there as George called customer service. He explained the situation to the girl on the phone and she said that she was sorry for this and that she would talk to her supervisor to see what they would do for us. She then asked if I could obtain a receipt for my wife's tires that the dealer had put in her car the month prior to getting our snows out on? I said yes and I left at that time to head to the dealer. The following Monday, April 1st, 2019 I arrived back to the Winsted Monro with the receipt and George faxed this over to customer service. He said that he would follow up with a call in 15 minutes or so, so I waited. George proceeded to call and spoke with a different customer service person and they said that the receipts never came through. So he resent them and they finally went through. The customer service rep said that they would talk to their supervisor and get back to him. So I left and returned to MM later that afternoon. At that time, George informed me that MM was going to do good on the tires and give both my wife and me the Kelly tires like what I previously purchased and they were just going to have to adjust the warranty time frame which was fine. George said he needed to finalize this with his Regional Manager Chad and then we were good to go. So I waited a couple of days as I was away for work and I called George on Wednesday April 3rd 2019 around 4:45 pm. He said that he was waiting for a return call from Chad his manager but we should be good to go by Friday and that Chad was going to be at store #308 on the following day to double check for himself to be sure that our tires were not in the store anywhere and that Chad would call me Thursday afternoon. So Thursday rolls around and no call from Chad, George or anyone from MM. So on my way back through town from work, I stopped into the store 308 around 4:45 pm to see what time Friday I could stop and get our tires installed. Well the manager George was not there and I was told the him and his manager Chad had a big fight and he left early. So the worker Dave at store 308 called George and told him I was there. At that time George requested my phone # from Dave so that he could forward this to his Manager Chad so he could call me. So that's what we did. And still no phone call. Well I went back to the store Friday April 5th 2019 at 8 am to see what was up. I saw George the store manager out in the shop. As I approached him thru the bay door George said " You are not getting any tires! The District Manager Chad said that we never stored your tires here do to liability so your tires were never here and we are not responsible for the lost tires!!" So here we are out of 8 tires that we paid for and someone either stole or sold. I went to the Winsted police department directly from the Monro store #308 to file a complaint. This is not going away as we are owed what is our property, wherever it be our original tires or new replacements. This is the only resolution to this matter. Above message was sent to MM Customer Service on April 6th and I received no response.. Civil case is pending.. Done with the whole Monro organization. Very unprofessional to say the least!! The only reason I'm even giving it 2 stars is the price. I scheduled an appointment online but no one from the store even bothered to check their online system. When I called to double check they said they could still do it, so I went. I wait nearly 20 minutes just for them to take my car in. I was there for an hour for an oil change that has taken everywhere else I've gone 15-20 minutes tops and that's when I do a walk-in. I sat in the waiting room with my daughter, 15 years old, listening to men scream at each other about balls and bring shitty f**** workers. They weren't even remotely pleasant to customers. People who arrived well after me were done well before me. I will never go back to any Monro after this experience. If they hire this badly at one store, I don't want to know what any others are like. They also have a sign up for an oil change for $14.99 but won't honor it because it is expired (you can't see that though) and he said it's because the new sign hasn't arrived. took my truck in because it was running louder then usual. As part of their Inspection they came back telling me that my truck was unsafe to drive, needed an A/C compressor and 2 ball joints. They quoted me $3600!!...Then when I called them out for working solely on commission and trying to rip me off, they said they can't get the parts anyway! Just got my A/C compressor done by a dealer for $550 and they said my ball joints were fine! Don't trust machanics that work on commission - they will rip you off!! read more

I started using this Monro just for an oil change, then came back to have them check a tire leaking air. The staff identified the issue swiftly and patched the area promptly. I have since come back for exhaust issues, and have come to appreciate the flexibility and speed in which I am able to be seen. Greg, the manager, has done a great job of taking care of my vehicle's issues, and one of the staff really helped me out when I accidentally left my purse there at end of day and he found me in a store across the street to give it back. I appreciate that they work to the best of their ability to problem solve challenging mechanical issues. Definitely recommend. read more

This place offers a good value for the money. Less than dealer cost and attention to detail. They found a drive train issue during an oil change that a local Chevy dealer couldn't after 2 visits. After more than 5 visits they have never tried to sell anything I didn't need and always completed the jobs without any issues. Brianna came right out and took a look and said they could take care of it and provided us great customer service. Hunter put the vehicle on a lift, took off the tire, and repaired it on the spot. Dave was also helpful in giving us some advice. Overall, the crew did a great job and served us very well, and at a very reasonable cost as we drove away in a little over 30 minutes! read more

I'm surprised to see the negative reviews of this place. I have patronized this location for over a decade, and have only had great experiences with the staff and the service. To be fair, I have only come here for oil changes and free diagnostics during those oil changes, so I can't speak to other aspects of this business. With that said, if you need an inexpensive oil change in Winsted, then this is the place to go. I have brought various Jeeps, BMWs, Nissans, and Hyundais here, and in each instance the oil changes were performed inexpensively, and without issue. I will note that if you have a vehicle with quirks, such as a BMW, it is necessary to inform the staff about those quirks before you begin your service. For instance, by design the BMWs hood was to be pressed shut, not slammed, and the oil pan and pug were aluminum, so the drain plug was not to be over tightened. I needed to make the staff aware of these quirks prior to each oil change so that hey did not damage my vehicle, and in each case they were accommodating and did as requested. read more

Had a very big issue with this location and it went as far as corporate and the BBB however finally spoke with someone at Corporate who put us in touch with the new manager of the Winsted location. I want to say that Carlos took the bull by the horns and helped with the problem and went far and beyond to the service we were expecting. He truly restored our faith in Monroe and I am happy to have experienced Carlos great customer service and management skills. Monroe Muffler has an exceptional Manager with Carlos it would be a shame if they ever lost him, all other locations should taking training from him. read more
