Super cute place. Great wine. I ended up buying a bottle of the chaos theory. Very bold blend. Delish. Patricia and Rae very welcoming. Come and enjoy!!

I found this place after the fires. I really needed to be with my community and walked in to have a glass of wine. I made friends with the people at the bar. It was truly comforting to be around others going through the harsh realities. I have to say, the owners are like family. I've been coming here since and started a membership. Now I'm fully stocked and know 1000 more facts about international wines. I enjoy all the live music and artists that come by. It's always a pleasure to visit. Best part about being a member are the tasting parties. You get to hang out on the mezzanine.

If you're looking for an unpretentious atmosphere to enjoy some good wine, Monopole is the perfect place to visit. Every staff member we have met has been kind and knowledgeable. Even when the place is super busy, they never make you feel rushed or like you're interrupting them by asking a question, asking for another pour, or submitting your answers for the blind tasting. We've been here twice on the Blind Tasting nights and we were very nervous the first time but they provide a good guide and let you discover the wine yourself with your group. In addition to fun events, they also have a wide variety of delicious and unique wine! I would highly recommend a visit to Monopole and expect it to be very casual, chill, and fun!

It was such a great surprise to visit Monopole. It had only recently been in my bookmarks via yelp, but i'm happy I took a chance and had a great time for the bit of time I spent there. Arrived during the day at around 2pm on 4th of July and surprisingly they were open with limited hours so i took advantage of the holiday and headed in. I took a seat at the bar and hung out with the bartender and other patrons (who were already having a GREAT time). Everyone was super friendly and was even offered a glass of champagne by a couple who had bought a bottle. This place definitely has a Cheers -esque vibe. People mentioned that they come on a normal basis and I can totally understand why. Totally chill and comfortable vibe. I had a little orange wine (very different for me, as Im a red wine girl, but it was hot + I wanted to try something new) totally delicious and refreshing. Super cute little hour spent at Monopole! One of these days, I want to head in and experience the fun all over again.

Phenomenal place right next to the Pasadena Playhouse! The owner and employees are SO WELCOMING! If you want a low key place to grab a glass and try some wine, this is a great place to visit. The inside is so comfy and the wine selection is good! No name brand, holier-than-thou nonsense going on here with either the wine brands nor the people who work here. You can also rent this place out. Ask the owner how! It's reasonable and a fantastic value!

Ask the Community - Monopole by WineRx

Do they have a good selection of sweet wines (dessert wines)? Also, do we need to book a reservation for wine tasting?

I asked the same question this past Thursday. The wines are organized by regions, so the sweet wines were within each region. The helpful store staff pointed out the individual sweet wines for me.

This bar is tucked inside Vroman's Bookstore (already one of the most charming and iconic bookstores in the area) so the entire experience feels like stepping into a warm, literary universe. You can browse for a new book, take in the bookstore's atmosphere, and then walk straight into the bar. Honestly, it's the perfect outing. What makes 1894 truly special is how intentionally it celebrates literature. Everything in the bar pays homage to the bookstore. The drink menu is full of clever, book-inspired names. You'll find cocktails like Pride and PearJudice Pride, Fifty Shades of Earl Grey, and other fun literary twists. Every drink feels like a little wink to readers, writers, and book lovers, and it adds such a unique charm to the experience. The vibe is super quaint and warm, dim lighting, and a creative atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The wine is on the pricier side ($19-$21 per glass), but the quality delivers. Customer service was excellent. One of the bartenders spent time chatting with us. He pointed out a chalk artwork behind the bar a dramatic portrait he drew himself featuring expressive, literary-style faces, like Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, etc. It fits perfectly with the creative, bookish aesthetic of the bar. If you're into books, wine, and unique experiences, 1894 is a spot you absolutely can't miss. Perfect for a date, a solo unwind-with-a-book moment, or a fun night with friends who appreciate a good story and a great drink.

Being in a party of 4 girls coming from high tea, we were dressed in elegant dresses, first comment was asking if we were coming from church, followed by eye flutters, short "okay" with an upward inflation to a joke about the day, an impatient comment about hurrying up and trying the wine while we were talking, asked for water when we were out, were left to pour the rest of our wine, didn't ask how the food was all the while was attentive to the table behind us, the cherry on top comment was when we were discussing the bill at the end, he was hovering at the table behind ours, then when we were ready, we asked to split the bill into 2, my portion on mine and the rest on another card, he then said "this isn't like a drive through, we can't do it that way" so I asked him to explain his comment, cause it was passive agressive and rude. After he wasnt able to becuase he wasnt expecting me to call out his rude comment, I had to then break it down and specify what I had ordered, he then sold "okayyyy....so how much, cause we don't itemize?" I had to again express for him to specify how they do it cause he has still yet to explain where his attitude is coming from and explain how they do their check splits, from my understanding it just felt like he wanted to play dumb and make me to the math, one I did he was like "ohh, okay" should have asked for the manager but we paid and left, I hasnt had this experience before being a returning customer, but he needs an attitude adjustment as his attitude was completely out of pocket. Do better Manuel, you alone got your place of work a 1 star. The rest of the staff was kind, facility beautiful and food and wine was good. This restaurant is not reflected in the 1 star.
