First day in Chicago we dropped our stuff off at the hotel and ran over to Monk's for a late lunch and a beer. The atmosphere on the outside and inside was so fun. You definitely felt like you were transported to Ireland. Since we were eating junk on the plane we decided to eat something semi healthy so we got a side salad and their Mediterranean flatbread. They were both super good, light and fresh. Would highly recommend to someone trying to be slightly more health conscious. Price was a little steep for what you get but it is downtown. Service was friendly and quick. read more

It is a mix experience but overall, I like it here. Good food, friendly staffs, and fast service.

Very good beer, excellent service. I had the fish and chips, and the best part of it was the cole slaw. The fries were pretty good, too, but the fish was terrible, clearly just frozen fish nuggets, reheated. read more

This is one of my favorite bars in the Loop. I used to come here all the time during my lunch break when I worked on N. Wacker about 6 years ago. Back then the lunch crowd was heavy but we always got a set within a few minutes. Nowadays I just stop by when I'm in the area. Most recently, it was the other Friday evening. It was much less crowded but still have a good number of people inside. The drink selection is really why people come here. Every time I look at the beer I'm surprised. I usually ask the bartenders for a recommendation since I'd never be able to choose. One of my favorite things is the number of Belgian and other exotic imports. If my memory serves me, the Buffalo Chicken Salad was my favorite dish here, so check that out if you're into it! They also used to serve you peanuts and let you throw the shells on the floor. Not sure if they still let you do that. I definitely recommend this place for the beer selection and atmosphere! read more

I loved this place. The food is solid pub food. My son got a burger that was excellent. My BLT was good. Fries were great. Service was prompt. The ambiance is what you are really going for. Wood beams and booths. Glass bottle wall. Vintagey feeling, but also clean. read more

This pub is right across the street from my job, so after work we go often. My go to is any sandwich with the tater tots, amazing. But if you've never had the pickle fries please give them a try. The space is cute a little too dark but spacious. I love the ambiance of this space. Great customer service also read more

I really wish that I could condense all of the great experiences I've had here into a single review. We lived a block away for several years and this was our GO TO place. Initially it was because of the convenience but it quickly and entirely turned into a place I go even if I have to travel there. The bar staff is AMAZING! Once they have your taste palette down, you can expect beers that you'd never ask for because you don't know. But THEY do. The burgers have been consistently rated as some of the best in the city and I won't disagree. I've never had food from Monk's that was disappointing. The ambience is so low key yet usually buzzing with activity. Yet even when they're busy, the staff rarely if ever let's you get to the bottom of your beer/drink. Anytime you are close to this place, stop in! You won't be disappointed. read more

Monk's is my favorite pub in the loop. The quirky lighting inside and tables everywhere make it so that you come for a drink and not a rowdy time. Even on St. Paddy's we managed to snag a table and the service was AMAZING! There was always someone checking on us and bringing waters. We ordered loaded tots and cheese curds and wow the curds were divine. The tots were crispy but needed some more toppings for sure. They have a good selection of beers on draft and even have a seltzer if that's more your vibe. read more

My wife and I, along with a group of friends visited Monk's Pub in Chicago. We were immediately greeted and quickly seated. Great place to hang out with friends and great selection beers. Their food was pretty delicious as well. Dash, our waiter, was such a cool guy, helpful, friendly and super funny. We will definitely return to Mo k's Pub. read more

Food was great. Server was great. Only issue was they will not do multiple bills at a table. They will take two credit cards and charge a set amount to each though. When traveling on business trips, it becomes an issue if not broken up. read more

Oh yes!!! Food was not ordered but the beer list is great! Some terrific unusual drafts put together with a great number of locals. The bottle/can list is a serious tour of exploration. For those a lil on the richer side or apt to splurge for a one of a kind...they have several 16 oz vintage bourbon barrel goose island beers. At $50-100 a piece. The other beers are well priced. Terrific selection and Uber nice server!!! They knew their stuff! read more

Have enjoyed burgers here in the past but tried the grilled chicken sandwich on this visit & it was great too. Our server was very personable and laid back, very efficient. Fries are good. I'm not a beer drinker so had their version of a regular soft drink & it was good enough. Love the atmosphere and decor & it's a little off the beaten path so I've never had to wait for a table or seat at the bar. read more

Solid bar. Great ambiance to enjoy a beer. Many beers on tap. Friendly service. It was well attended on a Wednesday night.

What a fun bar! So many beer options! I was not expecting just the sheer number of options; everything from cream ales to stouts...just so many! Came here for a random happy hour with some work folks. Even on a Friday night, bar wasnt packed and no cover. Service was attentive and awesome; would not hesitate to come back! read more

this is a great post work dive bar. I'm here w/ some good pals & it's very lively. Online it says it's medieval and that it is. The service has been very quick & apps look probably 2-3 star worthy but vibes are worth coming here & atmosphere bumps it to my 4 star rating. Advice from my friend: "be careful if you order a water because they might give you another beer" read more

our server was having a bad day and it showed. I asked for an old fashion and by the time it got to me it was off, I think it was made with rye instead of bourbon, (the menu said it was made with woodford reserve) it also had a chunk of an orange wedge and not just the peel, instead of a luxardo they used a ice cream sundae cherry. Which wasn't even whole, it was just sorry broken pieces. When I asked the server "Tiffany" if she could exchange this for just a neat pour of woodford(something they can't mess up) she said sure but she wasn't going to take it off the bill or the table and got defensive telling our table that the bartender there was the best bartender and she was "really good" At her job. She avoided our table for the most part After that. read more

Cool pub that primarily is known for its beer selection and the staffs knowledge on beer. I have never had the food here so I can't speak to that. Pricing is a bit high and this place is always pretty busy, so I don't typically spend too long here. If your into beer, mead, ales, etc you should give this place a try! read more

This bar is truly a hidden gem. From the outside, it looks like a small dive bar, but as you enter, you realize how huge it is. It is very popular in the area and is my go to bar for when I don't intend on spending too much and yet having a good time. The service can be a little slow if the place is crowded. The food is shockingly good for a bar. I trie the hummus plate and the pretzel sticks and liked them both. read more

Happened upon this place while wandering around. Drawn in by the look of the entrance and the "Chicago Poutine" listed on the menu. Enjoyed the atmosphere inside, everyone was super nice. Sat at the bar and was kindly recommended a beer that would pair well with said poutine (it definitely did). Speaking of beer, they have a ton of options on a wonderfully organized list (sorted, descriptions, etc) which is always appreciated. Positive experience overall. Would recommend and will definitely go back next time I'm in the area. read more

I had the turkey burger with slaw. I enjoyed the burger but the slaw was bland. I wish it had vinegar or something to it...it was nice that it wasn't so heavy on the mayo like how slam normally is. A burger and a soft drink sets you back around $20 so it is pretty pricey lunch in the loop. The staff was nice and personable. This is a good place to hide out from the heat. They have a huge beer menu. read more

I was here for the beer. As a confessed beer snob, I use Untappd to look at nearby places and their taps when we stay anywhere, especially large cities. While my wife and I were staying just south of the river, I found a few "meh" taps around. Expanding my search a little further north, just a block away from the river, under the L, I landed on Monk's. This trapist style belgian house is phenomenal for the beer lover in everyone. They offer a wide range of beers ranging from belgians, to ipas, and ba stouts. Because it was December, I decided to do a flight of 5 BA Stouts. I have to tell you that this place delivered. As someone who has had over 2k different beers/styles over the past 5 years, I find it hard to go to a place that offers things I haven't tried. This place delivered. They are able to serve the Miller Lite crowd as well as the snobs of craft beer. Bravo. read more

So awesome, I love this place man it's cool. Decorated very nice, excellent service, and nice selection of drinks

We came to Monks to see some friends, have some drinks and maybe a bite as well. And all of that was good. The best thing about Monks is the beer selection. Very impressive and all types and styles. You'll find something here you'll like for sure. The food is solid, especially the burgers. We also had the loaded tots, which were very tasty but definitely on the smaller side, so sharable if you're getting mains too. The service is good, though don't ask for split checks as they will give you no end to attitude about it even though you tell them before you order anything. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, like an old English pub. Prices are on par for downtown Chicago, meaning you're going to pay at least $50 for two, and that assumes like 1 drink each. Be prepared. Overall, worth a visit. read more

Great atmosphere and service. Went on an afternoon with wife for appetizers and a few beers.

What a burger. Not too big not too small. Cooked for the right amount of time. Definitely looks like a pub from the inside. Dim lighting and such. Thought there should have been more cheese curds. read more

Went for lunch with a group of coworkers. They were able to accommodate 8 of us with no warning. Our server was great - super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and everyone seemed to really enjoy the beer selection. They also had a great choice of meat and veggie options. I got one of the specials - a pulled pork sandwich with chimichurri and avocado on a pretzel roll with some waffle fries. It was great! read more

It's cozy and a little dirty here. But the beer here is very tasty, i advise you to come and try it.

Great drinks and vibe. Loved my brief time here and looking forward to another La Trappe quadrupel.

I would come back to this pub. I never tried mead prior to coming here, and I'm impressed by their selection. I favorite was the Grateful Head because it has a nice kick of spice. Also, I'm a fan of 60s and 70s music so all the music they played were to my liking. The food was alright just like any regular pub food. Overall, I'm glad to have found a chill pub downtown that sells good mead! read more

Hiya. This is just your friendly update. Good 'ol Monks. Like the other OG pubs on my list, so good and so 'ol. The bartenders always seem like someone from a softball team you've met. I realize that I have likely not encountered all of them. But I just bet they all do. This makes for a relaxed awkward casualness, which is pretty great. Anyway, the beer prices will stop you from drinking too much, so that's also good. We need this gem to stay here. Come on by and stuff. read more
