Went to check out Monkey's Tail for some drinks. They don't have the best beer menu, but they have a good selection of cocktails. I decided on the airmail-ish and it was a really good, refreshing cocktail made with pineapple infused rum. I saw that they had some bar food as well, so we decided to get a slice of cheese pizza for $2. It wasn't bad for the price. I saw they have a happy hour during the week which would be good to check out. The parking lot isn't huge and street parking is pretty limited. They have a large outdoor patio too which is nice. read more

First time here and the drinks were ok, asked for several mixed shots and they said they didn't know how to make them. I was supposed to only pay $58 which I approved and now I've been charged $48.22 and $38.22 on two separate service dates. Extremely lovely establishment. Their beverages are amazing. I had the "swimming pool", "tropic-like-it's-hot" (cute, right?), the "Mexican candy shot", the "pepino shot" and they were all extremely delicious. That pepino shot stole the show for me! They have a bar area to order the beverages and indoor seating but they also have an outdoor patio that is so cute and they have TVs outside as well! My friends and I sat on the cute, red swinging bench all night and had a blast. The restrooms were clean, too! We also ordered a pizza, but I was a bit drunk by then so my opinion on the pizza might be influenced by the alcohol but I thought it was great! They even gave us red pepper flakes. Definitely do not recommend. I and the group I was with were kicked out after 1 drink because I supposedly called the bartender a dumb b****. I was ordering a Hazy IPA with my friend at the bar and was given a Pilsner. I told her that it was not a Hazy IPA and she told that it was. I asked her fellow bartender to verify and he proceeded to pour the correct beer. We went about our business and as we were going to get our second drink we were asked to leave. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Monkey's Tail has your classic neighborhood/dive bar vibe with its pool table, living room furniture, patio, and eclectic decorations. The drinks are some of the cheapest in the city with quite a wide selection. They have rotating draft beers that are all less than $5, an extensive spirits menu, and wine (that I have yet to try). Though not marketed as such, Monkey's Tail is probably one of the best whiskey bars in the city with a great selection at approachable prices. They have a rotating "break-even" bottle that is poured at the cost of the bottle (check their instagram). The break-even pours, the main reason why I come, features *rare* or expensive bottles that I would NEVER be able to try on my own. The food is cheap, but don't let that that fool you of its quality. The $4 burger is quite delicious and beats burgers you'll find at "fancy" restaurants/joints around the city. Pizza slices are $2 each and still tasty. Best of all are the happy meal deals, $8 for a slice of pizza or burger + a beer + a shot?! I'm surprised they're making money! read more

This is a cute/small bar with great drink and food prices. I stopped in here with a friend and got a pour of whiskey and wings. The wings were pretty good and only $8. I can't stop coming to this place. I'm drawn to it. All the bartenders are helpful and if you have no idea what to order they will ask what you like and make a suggestion. This was my second time coming and I'm a huge fan of The Moscow Mule from here. Don't limit yourself to ordinary. Try No..Pos Ta Cabron, the drink in a pouch. I've also tried Just Wait Bish and the hibiscus compliments this drink perfectly. As for the food. I can not stress this enough but it's a must try! Came here for game 2 of the Astros 5th! ALCS run. The service was fantastic even though you have to go up to the bar to get drinks and food as they opened up the back bar to supplement the swell of crowds. This was an afternoon Saturday game that went awry when we had Garcia and Odorizzi completely fail at the mound. The stink of major media Fox Sports s*** is what put a taint on our ability to get started calling us out as villains. I leave no fault to this bar. This place feels like some joint you would find in downtown Mexico City. They have tremendous mescals as well as phenomenal tequilas to make wonderful cocktails and drinks with a Mexican flair. I had chilaquiles with migas as well as elote with chicharrones and tortilla chips along with hot queso. My wife had several different drinks and it was excellent. My 3 star rating is based on my very unfortunate ATTEMPT to go inside the bar at 9pm on a Friday. (NOT on the bar itself. ) Fiancé and I drove 20 minutes and struggled to find a near by parking spot only to get turned away at the door by the bouncer. The only thing he said to us as we were walking in was "hey you got any extra shorts ?" Directed at my fiancé. (Like if we lived in our car? -.-) We were dressed casually but not bummy. He then stated that they allowed shorts but not basketball shorts, which the fiancé had on. So to summarize, we did not get in because of the TYPE of shorts my man had on. Very disappointing. We ended up going to cedar creek. Don't think we'll be giving this place another shot even with PANTS on. Ps. I was so disappointed, came here for Years and invited all my friends after a concert. We arrived and hung out outside for 10 mins before we got kicked out of the outside patio. So I'll start this review by commenting that this place is definitely a bar with bar food, not a restaurant. I say that just because in the time we were there (a couple hours on a busy Saturday night) I'm pretty sure I only saw 2 other tables get food. Speaking of the food, we ordered a pizza and a chips and queso both of which were just meh. Fair warning, the pizzas are HUGE but fairly decent for Houston standards. They also serve all the food in to-go containers which I guess is the vibe they are going for, but just seemed a little tacky considering the ambiance of the rest of the place. The queso was decent but the chips were more pita chips than tortilla chips. As a bar this place is pretty cool. Great beer prices, the cocktails seemed a bit pricy but I didn't order one so can't comment on if they were a good deal or not. This place loses some stars mostly from the volume in the place. It is LOUD! I get it, it's Saturday evening, most of the tables are full, but for gods sake put something to dampen the nose on the ceiling or walls or something. It's impossible to have a conversation inside without yelling at eachother. Second complaint is from the busboys taking drinks before you finish. Happened two different times when I still had a decent amount of beer left. I get it, it happens sometimes but just kind of annoying when it happens multiple times with the same person. My new neighborhood bar! I recently moved to Lindale and this place is within walking distance. I've had about half of their "originales" and "viejitas nuevas." I've yet to be disappointed. The frozen drinks have also been very good, too. But the really pleasant surprise has been the food. I've had the chango burger, the pizza and the hot wings. Everyone of them has been delicious. Perhaps not the best bar food I've ever had, but certainly very good. The wings have been especially good - wet and hot! My wife and I have enjoyed walking over a few times a week. This is a great spot that has already become a go-to neighborhood bar The beer is cheap. The cocktails are slightly on the pricey side but they are delicious. We had the 3 Milks and the Mama Coco. Both were delicious. The latter sounds like it would be a bit odd with all the different herbs in it but it was really really good. I haven't tried the food yet but the menu looks interesting and the "Feliz Meals" look like a good value with food, a beer and a shot of tequila or whiskey. read more

Celebrated with friends for an important milestone in life last Friday and enjoyed myself as usual, however the server who closed out our tabs was quick to press their own tip selection just before she handed us the handheld to enter our credit/debit cards into. I don't know if she thought we were going to be too tipsy to notice, and I'm sure some drunk patrons have probably fallen for that. So people, beware, certain servers add their tip amount for you and shove the handheld in your face hoping you won't notice. I for one, would prefer you let me determine the tip. I pride myself in tipping well but I don't need someone else to do that for me. read more
