I used to go to the original spot. This location has been here for some years now. Spacious. Nice decoration. Prime location at South Shore. Thumb up to that. They still got good prices for lunch. I mean still a little pricey, but still worth going considering where it is. Speaking of the lunch special. It got busy & there was only one server at the time, so we waited for while this last visit. Finally, got our meals & everything was big portioned. I still really like their pad Thai here.

I'm really between a 1-star and a 1.5-star review. This place was disappointing beyond means. We visited during a Sunday, just 20 minutes after 12-noon. This place had one table and a server was taking orders. Note here that the waitress saw us and didn't even acknowledge us or say that someone will be with us, just kind of ignored us. But come to think about it, only 1 worker during Sunday lunch rush? After about 6-7 minutes of just standing around and another party arriving, someone else came out from the back-where were you the whole time? As that someone came out to greet us, she said something to the effect of, "oh we seat as you'd expect, sit anywhere you'd like!" Uh, no where was there a sign that said sit anywhere we'd like. In fact, I'm pretty sure I saw a sign that said wait to be seated. But what's your excuse for your incredible inability to staff properly or even acknowledge patrons trying to give your restaurant a chance? We were seated and water was brought out-no cups. We ordered and we never heard from the wait team anymore. Mind you, there was only ever 4 total tables at any given time we were there. 1 server and 1 hostess are more than sufficient for this number of tables. But it's inexcusable for us to never hear back from either the wait staff or hostess ever again until we ask for the check, especially if the tables next to use were attended to on multiple occasions. What's up with the hate? Why were we treated differently? When we went to pay, the hostess kept giving excuses about how expensive the rent is, but what does that have to do with your lack luster service and failure at your job? Now, let's talk about the food. The food was below average. Yes, I was already in a rather unhappy mood, but the food couldn't salvage it. The Pineapple Fried rice was very soggy, where some parts of it was more "slop" than rice. The fried rice had no hints of pineapple and just large (not bite sized) chunks of pineapple. The fried rice base was more of what you'd use in crab fried rice. Disappointing. The Pad See Ew was lackluster. The food tasted bold, but not in a good way. It was bold in the sense that it felt like the oyster sauce was used too liberally and other sauces were skipped to make room for more oyster sauce. There was no depth of rich vibrant flavors like you'd experience at other Thai restaurants. The Penang Beef Curry was also a bit off. The flavors were rich and didn't have depth. It was also just a smash you with over powering 1 type of sauce. While it definitely was a Penang Curry, it just wasn't there. Also, the beef was cut in a way I wasn't used to. Three slabs of beef with too much bay leaf. I actually do try not to give 1-star reviews, but I absolutely regretted this visit.

Came here for dinner and it looks like new owner is here. The service is friendly. The food is okay. The ambiance is casual. Would say this is average for Thai food.

The food is very delicious and services is great! Prices are affordable and the restaurant atmosphere is very family oriented. It looks like the place hosts a karaoke night with the screens and microphones. The bar makes some very good drinks! I was dizzy after two AMFs so good luck!

We visited last month during a short trip to the Bay. I was excited to find late night eats in Alameda, and I had dined and karaoke'd here before and loved it, but this time, Monkey Thai severely missed the mark. I had to flag a server down to be seated and our drink orders were not taken for a good 20+ minutes. Thankfully we knew what we wanted to order by then because service was so slow. The drinks were nice and the food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Pad See Ew - fresh but lacked flavor. Chicken Satay - Arrived lukewarm though the sauce was delicious. Chicken Wings - Ok. Previously I have enjoyed the Tom Kha. Late hours are nice but not if you don't have the staff to accommodate guests and you are not able to provide an acceptable level of service.

The service was quick, you can sit wherever you like. A friend told me to try the oysters during happy hour. My friends and I got 3 dozen oysters. The sauce was very good. Unfortunately 2 of my friends got sick from the oysters.

Date: 12/28/2024 Time: 3:40 PM 60° Partly sunny. After a stop at the post office lobby to send off a few bills, and I was hungry, what better time than to stop in at Monkey Thai for late lunch. I have been to their other restaurant on the west end of Alameda several years ago. Restaurant was not busy. Ahh...just the way I like it. It's quiet and I'm by myself on a solo act. After perusing the menu, I decided to have the eggplant dish with jasmine rice and lychee iced tea. I enjoyed the eggplant dish. The veggies were not overcooked and the level of spiciness was perfect. The iced lychee tea was refreshing and not overly sweet. I also like the extensive selections they offer on their menu. So many choices of items and so little time to decide. LOL. One thing I heard about Monkey Thai was they serve up pretty good garlic noodles. I will have to order their garlic noodles the next time I visit them, along with their chicken wings. The portion is generous, and as always my eyes got bigger than my stomach. I only ate one third of the meal for late lunch. It's leftovers for dinner. Customer service was very good. The waitress checked on me to make sure I was doing fine. Yes, I will return with my sister for the lunch specials or happy hour.

After doing some serious damage shopping at TJMaxx I was hangry. I came across this place. I got the lunch special and it came with the BEST garlic chicken noodles I've ever had!! So much garlic it was amazing. It also came with 2 veggie spring rolls, salad and a Thai iced tea. All for $21.95. What a deal. My husband got their salad. They also have HH all day so I took advantage of that and got some Thai beer. This place is great and I can't wait to back again.

I've eaten here several times over the years and recently ate here for lunch. Gosh, it feels like it's really gone downhill. By the peeling paint and outdated decor this place is in great need of a refresh. There were only a few tables occupied on a weekday, and no one dining outdoors. The service was dismal, our waitress seemed like a family member who wasn't at all into her job, and she wasn't able to answer any of our questions about the food. One other server, perhaps an owner, was much more friendly. I ordered a lunch special which was around $22 with a drink included. The food was tasty and the serving was generous, but unfortunately they were out of Thai tea of all things. Not sure if I'll be back, there are simply too many other local choices. Might be a good place to get food to go.

Came here for a team lunch and it was a great find! I got this confused with the other Monkey Thai where I didn't have the best experience, but this place is completely different. The waitress was busy but prompt. Super friendly and sweet. Their lunch specials are the way to go! You get an app, meal, and a drink for about $20. It's plenty of food too! Everything was tasty. Service was fast. The music was a bit loud, but they must have noticed and turned it down midway through. Also, it got busy and poor waitress didn't have any help so it took awhile to get our bill and some boxes. All in all, it was a great experience and I wouldn't mind coming here again for a good portion lunch plate.

    Jazlene T.

One of my go-to spots for takeout or Thai any time of day. They have a bar and have a wide variety of options for appetizers and entrees. I personally love their noodles & rice dishes but this time we ordered chicken gyoza & pad ka praow with beef. They don't have a lot of change for cash so I would opt in for using your card, they don't take large dollar bills. A lot of seating arrangements indoor & outdoor. Everything came out quickly, there were plenty of portions. I couldn't finish this alone lol.

It's ok Came mainly for the $1 oysters, and honestly not bad! They were definitely the highlight of the visit. We also ordered the papaya salad, which was unfortunately a miss. Even after asking for it spicy, it came out pretty bland and lacked the punch you'd expect from a Lao papaya salad. Service was a bit inattentive, though to be fair, we were the only table there, so maybe things were just slow that day. Overall, 3/5, we'd come back for the oysters, but probably skip the rest of the menu next time tbh.

Anyone remember the Jack London Village that they tore down to build this end of the development? Anyways - this is a fast casual type spot, where you order from the counter, place the little number sign on your table and wait for it to be delivered. The menu is your standard seafood joint by the water type, with all the usual suspects represented. Fried fish, shrimp, chowder, seafood pastas--if you've ever been to a seaside seafood joint, chances are good that the menu here is exactly like the one you remember seeing at the countless other places like this one. I noticed right off the bat that their pricing structure was on the high side - with a $17 burger and fries option, with the bulk of the fried seafood options in the $22-25 range. A cheaper choice might be the $16 fish tacos (two of them) but I kind of draw the line at paying $8 for a single taco. Our table ordered a few of the fried options plus a few soda beverages. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and I noticed that the silver metal trays that the food comes on is a bit on the small side, especially considering the prices for each dish. The fried shrimp dish was a big scoop of mega-salty french fries, and 3 average sized deep fried shrimp. Yes - 3 as in 1, 2, 3. That's what - $7+ a shrimp? The two fried fish platters weren't much better portion-wise. My deep fried cod consisted of three modest sized fish-fingers, and not the single luscious chunk of perfectly fried cod I had imagined in my head when ordering. They were fine - but very average and nothing that stood out as life-changing or something to write home about. As mentioned earlier, they must be employing the Little Rascals method where they over salt everything, in hopes that you'll order another beverage to wash down the copious mounts of sodium (I figure about 4+ days worth). The fried catfish platter that rounded out our order was more of the same - thin meager portions of fish on a large bed of mega-salted fries. Small plastic containers of generic pre-made tartar sauce and coleslaw can with each platter. The coleslaw was fine - just very forgettable and perhaps a tad on the flavorless/watery side. All said, was it okay? Yes. Was it anything outstanding that I'd crave and plan my return to have again? No. It is in line with touristy by-the-Sea seafood places that charge an extra couple of bucks because they're "on the water"? Pretty much. You're paying for the view and the 'scene' of sitting on the patio out front to people watch, and not for the food. I kind of hate these places and normally try my best to stay away from them, but every once in awhile, you gotta put on your tourist hat and join the mindless flock. A meager 2 stars outta 5 from me. Instead, I'd stroll around this area on a Sunday when they hold the farmer's market (again - is not what it used to be) and then drive through the tube to Alameda where great dining spots are numerous on Park Street. You can stop at Crab Cove and Crown Beach on the way, for more touristy sightseeing.

After scoping out the vibes of the place and the menu, I told myself to make sure to give this a shot. The place is in a redeveloped corner of Alameda right next to the bay. Probably used to be Navy base grounds back in the day. But now there's a couple of blocks worth of hip warehouse-y type of buildings, mostly restaurants, beer spots, some lofts and a little retail commerce. Very happening even though the surrounding area is a ghost town. Dining area not too big, maybe a couple of rooms that can hold about 20-30 heads each. Think there's another room for a private party/overflow. Decor pretty minimalist and stark. Service on the upscale side but in my stay, matched the decor, very minimalist and stark. Efficient enough but a little terse with little emotion. But I know service personality can differ from time to time or person to person. Just my obsy for one out. Daily Crudo ($20/4*) I think this rotates daily. Our choices that day was hamachi or a house smoked sturgeon. The sturgeon really piqued my interest but then it really wouldn't be a 'crudo' anymore would it, since I relate crudos to something 'raw-ish'. So I chose the hamachi. Very pretty plating, I love symmetry and balance. The thin slices of hamachi were indeed fresh, sitting in a stealthy pool of yuzu and olive oil. There are some fresno pepper slices and microgreens that garnish and a delicious nori cracker to break and accompany the crudo. This went really well with my glass of Fume Blanc. Caeser ($17/4.5*) We split this salad as their version sounded super cool. A miso-tinged Caeser dressing, lots of rustic garlic croutons and feathery soft grated parm and a soft-boiled egg. I love properly made Caesers and this was one of the best and unique versions I've ever had. The umami punch and the diverse textures just hit with me. A tad salty for a salad, but the crunchy and refreshing lettuce was able to absorb the salt blast. Huge salad too, like ideal for splitting and ridiculously large if for 1. Beef Short Rib ($43/4*) This was on special that night, and since I wasn't feeling Steak Frites (their only other beef entree option) this kinda fell on my lap. Very heavy and hearty dish. The short rib part was impeccable, super tender, gotta be sous vide. Perfectly seasoned with braising elements completely penetrated into the meat. There was a coarse gravy/sauce that covered which was okay, may have been the braising liquid just pureed. Served atop a huge pile of some risotto that I didn't inquire about. This risotto is what made the dish especially heavy. I ate most of it and it put me in a heavy carb coma. Lol. But there was a nice serving of perfectly cooked broccolini which helped balanced out the rich beef and carb heavy risotto. Chocolate Bar ($13/4.5*) Shared this for dessert as I really couldn't take more than just a few bites after the filling entree. But was this impressive, like high end dessert quality. Whoever does the desserts here definitely has some pedigree. The precision cut bar consisted of 3 layers. A brownie layer; a Bailey's mousse; and a salted caramel layer. I was loving the texture of all the different layers playing on one another. And every flavor was distinct without being overly sweet, which hit the right chords with me. A thick ganache garnished off to the side, which was good but just seemed a bit overkill with the already chocolate dominant bar. I think a cream element would have been a better contrast instead of rich chocolate on rich chocolate. But very minor quip on an otherwise skillful dessert. I finished the last few sips of my glass of Rhone with this dessert, and it left me one happy camper. I would definitely return as their style with flavors hits an accord with me. A little French, a smidge of Japanese and a lot of California. Rounding to a fiver, as this place made me more happy than not.

I really like how they let you build your seafood experience exactly how you want it, from the type of seafood to the seasoning and spice level. The only thing was I think the spice level could've been kicked up a notch. Our table ordered a mix of oysters, garlic noodles, Cajun fries, shrimp, crawfish, mussels, which came with corn, potatoes, sausage and hard boiled egg! The seafood was fresh and the sauce coated everything nicely without being overwhelmingly salty, and the corn and potatoes soaked up all the seasoning. All for a very reasonable price if you get the combo, which comes in 3 different tiers! The oysters were a standout--fresh, briny & I loved all the different sauces like horse radish and cocktail on the side. I do wish the fries were a bit more crispy and could've gone heavier with the Cajun seasoning, but that's personal preference. The atmosphere is casual, lively, and perfect for big groups. If you're looking for a customizable seafood boil with fresh oysters, fun drinks, and plenty of options to build your ideal meal, Rockin Crawfish is definitely worth a visit

I was very disappointed with my recent takeout order. Before placing my order, I specifically asked…read morewhether the crawfish were live, and the waitress told me they were available. Based on that conversation, I expected fresh live crawfish, which was available Tuesday when I ordered from DoorDash the previous time. After I got home and opened my order this time. it was clear that the crawfish had been frozen. If the restaurant serves frozen crawfish, that's fine, but customers should be given accurate information when they ask directly about the product right? I feel misled because I relied on what I was told when making my purchase. Transparency is important, and I hope the restaurant does a better job communicating with customers about whether their crawfish are live or previously frozen. VERY DISHONEST BUSINESS SMH.

As a parent, I never knew how much I would appreciate a drive-thru at spots like Walgreens, Starbucks, and now, an actual restaurant! It's the little things sometimes that really help to take the heavy lift off, while giving back the flexibility and energy to the driver :) While I can't speak for the interior of the restaurant, we did roll through the drive-thru to test it out over the weekend while exploring Alameda and all of its charm. On a Saturday evening it seemed like they were pretty swamped, and no one was responding at the drive-thru window so we figured maybe it was closed. We pulled up and my husband got out of the car to confirm before we pulled away with a worker inside the restaurant and they apologized. Almost immediately someone came to the window and gave us printed menus because we had already passed the digital menu part of the drive-thru. We ordered hush puppies, a fried shrimp po' boy sandwich, mac n' cheese, and bread pudding. Oh wee, we had a feast when we arrived home and reheated everything! I think they may still be working out some kinks, but I'm open to trying the drive-thru again next time we're in town post brewery fun. A drive-thru in the East Bay for Cajun bites? Very cool! I've explored their menu before and wow, that bread pudding! Special. Would go back for that alone to try it hot from the oven!

This place is not it for Cajun food or food in general…read more Being from the south, I was super excited to try this spot, but nothing was good about it. I ordered to-go blackened fish platter with red beans and rice, and a chicken sandwich with fries. It took 30 min for the food to come out and when I opened the fish, it wasn't even slightly warm (mmm, room temperature fish!). What's more disappointing is that everything was severely overcooked and dry and nothing tasted remotely Cajun or appetizing. This place isn't exactly cheap, either. And all I can say about the ambience is it's got a cafeteria vibe. Anyway, I gave it two stars because the front people are at least friendly, but I in no way, shape or form recommend this restaurant.
