Cute place but we didn't have reservations. Weren't given the option to wait for a table inside so we were told the only available ones were outside and it was HOT. So we were pouring down sweat. My time at Monkey 68 was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish! While it is situated downtown, where there is often limited parking, valet parking is offered for a small fee and the valet attendant was kind, quick, and the service was reasonably priced. The hostess was able to seat us right away, even though we arrived a little earlier than our reservation. We were seated in the back room, which doesn't offer quite as nice of an atmosphere as some of the other areas of the restaurant, but it was also much quieter and we appreciated this. Our waiter was attentive and made sure to check in when appropriate. Cocktails were consistent and delicious (get the Charming Snake if you're up for an adventure!). We got three sushi rolls and two appetizers; all of them were delicious. I don't think you can go wrong here. If you're looking to impress a date or really just treat yourself to a lovely night out, I would highly recommend you give Monkey 68 a try! read more

Have some friends who love this place & was doing a date night out on Canton St, so wanted to give it a try. Overall I'd give it a solid B. I agree with other comments on price of items for what you get. The short rib meatballs were fantastic but $18 for 6 quarter-sized meatballs on a crostini seems a tad high. Cocktails were enjoyable. Sushi was just ok - nothing memorable. Bulgogi cheesesteak was amazing but $15 for 1/2 of a sandwich with soggy chips & a condiment-sized container of kimchee was silly. The wild mushroom salad should have been described as mixed green salad with mushrooms. Very tasty but very lacking in wild mushrooms. We were seated in the back, lower-level of the restaurant at a tiny high top. With the cement floors & the high ceiling & no sound panels - it was really loud & not the ambience we wanted for a date night. read more

We were very excited to try Monkey 68 based upon recommendations from friends and the great reviews on yelp. The menu looks like a lot of fun, unless you happen to have gluten issues. First of all, it took 2 people to intelligently walk through what would be a safe option, and to our dismay their lack of willingness to substitute or offer ways to make items gluten free was astonishing, especially at that price point. So we had the She Sho Fresh roll (it was delightful) - but I expect more. We ended up at zest down the road and they adjusted as most restaurants do. read more

The sushi and appetizer were excellent. My wife and I eat a lot of sushi and we were surprised by how much we enjoyed our meal. Our server, Kaylani, was friendly and knowledgeable. She made recommendations for our drinks and the rolls we ordered and we were very pleased. The gentleman host who greeted us was rude but it was busy so maybe that's why. read more

I received the reco for this place from a colleague, and it def lived up to the hype. Made a same day reservation for the gf & I super easy, and we're seated right away. Some of the best sushi I've had in my life, top 5 easily. Warm, consistent and textured - not crunchy, crisp and overly spicy or even filling. Will def be back for specifically more sushi in January, when we can open our "Christmas gift" they give you, to open in front of their employees when you come back in January, for free gifts for everything from just a signature cocktail to a chef's dinner for valued over $200(!!) Service and selection were amazing as well - def so the yellowtail shooters and dumplings. Lots of good sake at good prices, not the hugely marked up crap. We'll be back! read more

Picked this place from the prior reviews. Wife and I were in the mood for a different sushi place then our stand by. We will definitely be back again and soon. Don't over thinks this place its great and the service during COVID is very good. You only need a few rolls and maybe an appetizer like Bang Bang shrimp. Relative cost too. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed the concept of this restaurant. With various entree selections and sushi, Monkey 68 is one of the best sushi restaurants in the state we've been to. For the entrees, we had their angry ribs and dumplings, which were flavorful and delicious. For sushi we tried the Gangnam Style and Doudble decker, both of them were amazing. We've been here twice. We'll most likely go back when weather permits outdoor seating, but it's a once or twice a year kind of place for us and here's why... The good: the rolls and sushi are very high quality. The beers are surprisingly inexpensive. The cocktails are well regarded, but we haven't had them, but they looked impressive. The not-so-good: Overall pricey for what you get. We just got home and I'm hungry enough to fix a sandwich, which doesn't happen after sushi at most places. And beware of the specials. They won't say what they cost without asking, and you might get a surprise. Like the tuna flight, for instance. It sounded good, but at $100 (a $200 value we were told, haha) it might put the buyer in an awkward position when the check comes. They were out of ikura, which happens, but it took two or three visits from our server after ordering it before they fessed up. Not a big deal, but communication was clearly a problem. Also when they brought something we didn't order, it added to the disappointment. Most sushi places give you more than enough wasabe and ginger. Not so at Monkey 68. I've never had to ask for more ginger before. But they brought it, so not complaining. Believe it or not the worst part about Monkey 68 is the acoustics. It's rare to go to a place that's this high-end and have it suffer so much from sound issues. So if you're hoping for some intimate conversation with your date, well, keep hoping because people's chatter bounces around and off all the hard surfaces like a Red Rider carbine action BB gun. "You'll shoot your ear out!" Seriously, you're more likely to feel a part of your neighbor's gossip than your own. I think this is fixable, but I management is neglecting the sense of hearing over the sense of vision. It is a nice looking place, but you may be too busy trying to tune out the noise to notice. read more

Had heard a lot of great things about this place, so was excited to give it a whirl. I wanted to LOVE LOVE LOVE it, but walked away thinking it was good, but was it really worth I was impressed by the cool, mellow vibe and very sweet staff. For the moment you walk in you feel welcomed. We ordered a bunch of items --from Edamame, to the Bang Bang Shrimp, Kimchi Fried Rice, and PokE. Everything was good according to all in my party -- I wasn't able to try a few of thing things. Anyway, the only thing I wasn't impressed with was the lack of concern for food allergies and well the prices were kinda high. I have a tomato allergy and made it clear that I did as soon as we sat down. I was told what to avoid, which I did --- so I thought. The Kimchi Fried Rice came out for example with tomatoes right on top. When I said something to my server he was just like, oh man, sorry I didn't know. Come on dude it is your job to know OR at least ask. All in all it was good. Slightly overpriced -- aka I would probably go to Umi before I went back to Monkey68 for that reason alone. But who knows, I might venture back to Roswell and check it out again. read more

Short review: Chic Japanese/Korean spot with cool sushi and good drink offerings. Prices need to come down and menu needs improvement. There's not much high quality Asian food in this area, so Monkey 68 is a welcome addition. The restaurant advertises itself as panasian fusion, but it's really Japanese/Korean. There are a bunch of small plates and a sushi menu that skews toward cooked ingredients and unusual sauces. The atmosphere is really nice, and the cocktail menu is cool. The biggest problems with the place are that the prices are significantly higher than they ought to be and the non-sushi menu is a little narrow. Neither one of those will likely be an issue for the clientele that tends to frequent downtown Roswell, but they may end up needing to shift their flavors away from some of the more authentically Korean items. I was hoping this would be a more foodie-friendly spot, but at these prices, I'll be looking for better options closer to Buford Highway and Gwinnett. read more

This is the best sushi I've had in Atlanta. Chef David is amazingly talented. The cocktails, themed around the Chinese zodiac, are all great. I know because we brought a group of friends here for a birthday celebration and we tried them all..The service is refined, the restaurant is modern and hip with a creative vibe but not pretentious, the staff knows the menu well and the food is amazing. Of the handful of times I've been here (with a group of friends for a birthday dinner, at the bar for a cocktail, on the patio for a casual dinner, omakase for a celebration), I've had a 5 star experience every time. I was impressed by this restaurant. The place is very rustic chic, but gorgeous and inviting. We were seated right away because we had a reservation. We started with cocktails, I had the Laughing Horse, which was awesome and my friend had the Dancing Goat. The waitress recommended us to pick a cocktail based on the animal of our Chinese zodiac. They do a very good job on Cocktails I highly recommend trying at least one. To share appetizer we ordered the Bang Bang shrimps, they were amazingly big, crunchy and flavorful. I ordered the LOL roll, I absolutely loved it. My friend had the Toro on Fire roll, which was delicious. We skipped dessert. The service was spot on. I would recommend this place for an intimate dinner or small group. Additionally, they have a small party room that would be great for a higher end work or personal function. This is now truly one of my favorite places in Atlanta and I plan on coming back, soon. read more

The sushi is wonderful, but the experience was not. I went with 4 other people. 3 of the 4 either own, manage and bartend in the industry. So this review comes with caveat that I don't believe the customer is always right. And I don't believe my friends feel that way either. But I believe there is an air here that because it's located in the expensive area of Roswell that there is a sentiment of fleecing their customers. The server isn't in allegiance with your experience, but instead, with the restaurants. So buyer beware. read more

What an amazing way to end my Saturday with my boyfriend! We have been here once before with friends and have been dreaming about this place ever since. We returned this evening and it was just as good as we remembered! I hate to have to give a bad review. The ambiance, food, and service were wonderful. It was my husband & my 11th anniversary & we made a reservation for 8:00 Saturday, August 12th. I received my entree @ 8:30 & he didn't receive his until 9:30. To me that is unacceptable. Our server was gracious & I felt bad for her. So glad that my husband and I discovered this hidden gem close to our house. We walked in an hour before close, on a busy Saturday night, with no reservation and they happily accommodated us. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. We started with the tuna Poké. It was some of the freshest tuna I've ever had. Absolutely delicious. The laughing horse drink AMAZING. Highly recommend it. For dinner, we shared the 68 and Rolls Royce rolls and, while the 68 was delicious, the clear winner was the Rolls Royce. Best. Roll. Ever. This place is such a cozy cute spot with killer food! My best friend took me here while visiting Roswell. We actually got a reservation for 4 on Valentines day which was such a surprise. It's a smaller spot, so if you have a big party I would definitely recommend making a reservation. We were a little early for our res, so we grabbed a drink at the bar. There was a decent list of cocktails, wine, sake, and beer. There is no way someone couldn't find something they liked. This is a tapas style restaurant, so we shared a ton of things. I ate at Monkey 68 for my 24th birthday, and I was so happy with the entire experience that I can't wait to come back! The restaurant is tapas style, so my boyfriend and I chose 6 different plates to share: Cucumber Lollipop, Sesame Asparagus Fries, Sex & the City roll, Picante roll, She Sho Fresh roll and, my absolute favorite, Red Snapper Carpaccio. It's not a good idea to come here expecting not to share as plates come out as soon as they're ready. Monkey 68 has a great selection of craft cocktails. Monkey 68 is a delicious sushi place wrapped up in a Brooklyn-style hipster bar situated in a beautifully redone home located off a side street in Old Town Roswell. Add to the food menu a super creative drink list, top-notch service, and Asian-flared decor that didn't feel overdone or like it was trying too hard, and this place has all the makings for a great date night. My jalapeño infused whiskey cocktail (the Charming Snake) definitely makes the shortlist for interesting brown water concoctions, and it paired supremely well with the Bulgogi Cheesesteak appetizer (a must try). The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is sushi ranks toward the middle to bottom half of my food preferences. All in all, a great find. read more
