We had the best date night here at Monkey 68 last night. It started out a bit rough with a car accident delaying us making it to our initial reservation. The hostess was so kind in her communications over the phone and in person, and we were able to get a spot at the sushi bar (which was ideal for us sushi lovers anyway). We both ordered cocktails that we enjoyed thoroughly (the laughing horse and 160 rabbit). I was a little bit disappointed that they were seemingly unable to switch out any of the ingredients or liquors in the cocktails, especially since I don't like whiskey but some of the yummy cocktails had that as the listed liquor. Regardless, the cocktails we got were delicious. We got the sesame asparagus fries with white truffle aioli, the yellowtail jalapeño carpaccio, and the smoked toro. They were all literally out of this world and delivered with a smile. We then ordered the picante roll and she-sho fresh roll. They were both amazing including the sauces that came with each roll. All the fish we had was fresh. Our waitress was SPECTACTULAR. She was helpful, kind, funny, everything we could've asked for. We will be returning to Monkey 68 probably way too soon and often. We left Monkey 68 without ever getting so much as a glass of water. We arrived without a reservation. The restaurant appeared only 20-30% occupied, with at least 6-8 empty tables in plain sight. The hostess seemed clearly annoyed that we hadn't booked, quoted a 20-30 minute wait, and suggested the sushi bar might be faster. After sitting at the sushi bar for 8-10 minutes without menus or water, I went back to the hostess stand to ask for menus. She handed them to me and suggested we might get faster service at the main bar instead. We moved there and waited another 5-10 minutes. There was no bartender behind the bar, and none ever appeared. Meanwhile, the hostess and manager stood at the hostess stand looking over at us without offering any help. We finally got up and left. Neither seemed concerned or made any effort to address the situation. Being directed from one seating area to another and then ignored is incredibly frustrating. We never got to try the food, but the rude, indifferent treatment from both the hostess and manager gave us no reason to return. read more

The Twilight roll was the standout for me, with enough going on to feel more interesting than a basic sushi order. The dumplings were also tasty, and the cocktail list has some fun choices without feeling too over the top. My only caveat is that the seating/service setup can be a little uneven, especially if you start at the bar expecting to eat there. read more

My new favorite sushi restaurant. There's an outdoor patio and the inside is beautiful. Very tall ceilings and the bar is really nice. We arrived exactly at 5 pm on a Thursday so we got the best seat in the house. They have an amazing happy hour from 5-7 pm. Most rolls were half off and we tried a reisling which was great. The rolls were very high quality fish and the portions were decent. My favorite roll was the spider roll because it came with seared salmon which was a very nice surprise. We also stumbled here during restaurant week so my husband tried it and ordered the toro ceviche, nigiri special, and black cod. Everything was amazing. What really shined was the service and how attentive the servers were the entire time. They always came around to check how our meal was going. I felt welcomed and it was great dining experience. One of our favorite all time spots! Its small quaint, great location off of Canton St downtown Roswell. If you don't have a reservation, you might not get a seat. Parking is limited so be sure to park close by. Cocktails are "oh yes" emulating Megan Ryan in Sleepless and Settle LOL. and the food is right up there with it. Kimchi fried rice oh my!!! We had a 5:30 reservation specifically for the patio, and when we arrived there were at least 10-15 empty tables available. Despite that, the manager insisted on seating us at a table with a terrible view, right next to a construction site and a trash dumpster. We politely asked if we could sit at one of the many open tables, but were told it "wasn't possible." After going back and forth and getting nowhere, we decided to leave. Located in Roswell, it's in what I would call an up and coming spot. The patio outside looks like a great spot to dine when the weather is nicer. Inside is an eclectic mix of modern meets rustic but it's nice. Gives off casual vibes with upscale notes. We ordered the bang bang shrimp and Brussels sprouts as our appetizer. My sister got the LOL roll and I got the Rolls Royce roll. Absolutely loved both appetizers. The shrimp were nicely sized without being drowned in a mayo-based sauce like some places do. They had real flavor and were seasoned subtly. The Brussel sprouts were also very good. Both were easily sharable as the portion size was nice. I was not a fan of my roll. I initially thought I was given the wrong roll, but I was able to find a small piece of lobster in one. I'm still not 100% sure I had the correct roll though. My sister's roll was not that great either and she wasn't a fan of it either. She usually gets the Spicy toro roll and regretted trying a different one. Overall, I think the hype my sister gave me about this place may have been a reason I was let down. The food and service is always consistent. We tried the Kimchi Fried Rice, Brussels sprouts, tuna crunch, bulgogi cheesesteak, yellowtail jalapeño shots, twilight roll and picante roll. Updating this review many years later as this place is top notch. Price is a little high (not atrocious, in-line for the area) but food is good and fresh. Good sushi chefs and polite staff. Sushi plus downtown Roswell equals increased prices, so just be ready to spend about 20% more than you think you typically would, but it will be worth it and their in-house special drinks are one of a kind and truly amazing. I attended a business dinner at Monkey 68 on Green St in Old Town Roswell, Ga. Parking is steps away in the public lot at the end of the street just shy of Alpharetta Hwy. We had a drink while waiting. Tried the original cocktails. I had a sort of old-fashioned topped with applewood smoke. Pretty good but different. We had the specials which was a king salmon sashimi topped with salmon roe and more. Very, very good. We had a couple of rolls that were dynamite. Plus following the instructions from my daughter, I got the Sweet Chili Brussels sprouts which were amazing. Monkey 68 is definitely worth a try and likely a repeat visit. read more

We were looking for a quick bite and drink in the downtown Roswell area and settled on Monkey 68 based on their cocktails and sushi menu. I had been previously to the Alpharetta location so I was curious to see what the Roswell location was all about. We started with cocktails - I convinced one of my friends to try the smoky Hidden Dragon while I ordered the Rooster in the Clouds. Both cocktails are super instaworthy but they didn't taste as mind blowing as they looked or as I had hoped they would. The Rooster in the Clouds was a bit too sweet for me after the cotton candy melted into the cocktail. The Hidden Dragon cocktail pours out in a cloud of smoke but the cocktail itself didn't seem super smoky. The 160 Rabbit is also pretty sweet but a pretty cocktail to sip on. We tried some apps to snack on while sipping our cocktails. We shared the kimchi fried rice which really hit the spot. The Yellowtail Jalapeño shots are the perfect tasty palate refresher and great for sharing. The Tuna Crunch was just ok - paled in comparison to the other two bites we tried. Overall, I would love to come back and try other cocktails and sushi options. But will definitely ask for a less sweet cocktail next time... read more

We've been to Monkey 68 several times since March. We moved to the area a year ago and it took us a while to find a good sushi place. We have alway had good service and food has been delicious... We've always had a solid meal , i can't deny that. We've had two hour meals , more food than we could finish & often have left thrilled to have such a meal - HOWEVER tonight I must say I will not be coming back any time soon. The food was good , not exceptional but when the bill came to our surprise we were charged $56 dollars for 4 pieces of sushi ( blue fin ) and $40 for a red snapper Carpaccio which consisted of 5 small pieces on a cucumber slice. I consider myself a foodie and having lived in Los Angeles for 20 years , I ate sushi 3x a month at a Michelin star restaurant I may add and NEVER did I pay that much EVER. Monkey 68 isn't life changing sushi, what we ate this evening I can assure you wasn't award winning & I feel like we were totally ripped off. Like I said , we've been here a handful of times and had checks way over $200 bucks but $420 lol is outrageous! I really enjoyed this place. I agree that they are more like a designer sushi place. I went with a friend who recommended the place and had a roll with shrimp and crab. We started off with the Korean beef rib appetizer and it was very tasty. It was spicy + saucy! I've had better sushi at the same price point, but this wasn't terrible. I found the rolls to have a ton of rice and little protein. We both ordered the strawberry basil vodka cocktail and it had a nice flavor but not much alcohol. It is overpriced at $13. I had no buzz and should have stuck to wine. The ambiance is nice, which explains the price point. Service was super friendly and accommodating. This place has great food but they are complete assholes (I've had plenty of good waiters management was dicks). We had a reservation made that somehow got cancelled NOT by us. After arriving to the restaurant we were told there's nothing they can do. They found the reservation and told us they're not sure why THEY canceled it. After dining at monkey 10+ times spending over thousands of dollars I will not be returning. They could care less about the customers all they want is money. The least they could've done was comp us an appetizer and seat us within 15 minutes. Learn how to run a restaurant with actually customer service. The only reason I'm giving 3 Stars is because the quality of food was, and always has been, exceptional. As one of the best sushi restaurants in the Alpharetta/Roswell area you would expect the rest of the dining experience to equal the efforts from the kitchen, but it was very disappointing. It started with cramped seating, for the five of us, at a four top, when 15 minutes after we arrived a party of 4 got the six top in the window. The waiter took our meal order, at which time we explained that someone in the party didn't eat fish so they ordered three non-fish dishes, two of which were served hot, while the rest of us ordered 4 sushi rolls and a couple of orders of nigiri. All three dishes for the non-fish eater arrived at once and were placed in front of them, it was a further 10 minutes before any sushi arrived, leading to the one guest awkwardly eating alone. We ordered a premium bottle of sake. The waiter brought 4 'wine' gasses and said "I'm just going to pour this out equally between you four!" (no response expected from us). When we ordered a 2nd bottle of sake we asked if shot glasses were an option, he said "if you want, I just thought you would want the sake to breath...which is why I gave you the wine glasses!". Finally he pressured the individual, whose Birthday it was, to choose the most popular item for dessert, which had peanut butter in it. They explained twice they did not care for peanut butter. Outside of the wait service, and not the restaurants fault, the noise level was extremely loud. If I return I will hopefully get a different waiter experience and likely sit outside. read more

Atmosphere/parking: they offer valet (from what I read it was for a small price) but we were lucky enough to find the last spot in a free parking lot close by! The restaurant looks like a house renovated into a restaurant. A very cute patio space in the front with garden lights, and close seating inside. The light is a little dim, but makes the place feel cozy. Feels a little bit more high end as well. Food: they have tapas style korea and Japanese inspired food. My husband and I shared: - Chirashi ($29): 12 pieces of assorted daily fish over sushi rice. I'm used to chirasi coming in a bowl but it was nice how they laid it out. We had five different types of sashimi, all very great quality and sooo delicious. All the pieces melted in my mouth! - Amberjack Carpaccio ($19): amberjack, sweet cucumber, pickled jalapeno, radish, cilantro. This is usually red snapper but they had to sub it for another white fish. Comes with about five pieces, all bite sized. All the flavors went well together, it was refreshing. - Smoked Toro ($29): hickory smoke, smoked soy sauce, pickled wasabi. My FAVORITE of everything we got! The presentation is beautiful. The toro comes covered with a glass filled with smoke and they reveal it at the table. You can really smell the hickory, it's very nice. The pickled wasabi was delicious, a little goes a long way! And the smoked soy sauce, *chefs kiss*. We ended up using it for the chirashi. You can ask for this smoked soy sauce on the side with any of your other dishes! Will definitely have to do that for next time. The toro was so velvety and beautiful, 100% recommend. - Twilight ($16): spicy tuna, albacore, fried onions, micro greens, garlic, ponzu, sriracha. For me, the sriracha flavor really overpowered everything. The fried onions added a nice texture to the sushi but I don't think I would come back here for the rolls and would rather stick to their fresh sashimi. Drinks: we were definitely most excited for the cocktails. We had: - Charming snake ($12): mezcal, luxardo cherry, sangue morlacco, blackberry peppercorn shrub, lime. The smokiness of the mescal is sooo good. They asked to bite the blackberry peppercorn shrub prior to taking your first sip. - Dancing goat ($11): lapsan souchong tea infused tequila, Dubliner honeycomb, thai chili agave, line. My favorite of the three we had. It was so easy to drink and so unique. - Rooster that rocks ($12): titos, italicus, absinthe rinse, grapefruit jasmine shrub, lemon, chamomile bitter. Another presentation, comes with house made cotton candy and they pour the cocktail over it so that it melts. Very beautiful pink color and it tasted great. Overall, expect to drop a pretty penny here. The fish is fresh, would highly recommend their appetizers or the chirashi. The drinks are amazing, can't wait to come back. read more

Nicely decorated.. The menu looked interesting. However, we were not at all impressed with the bartender, guessing manager/owner.. He was cold, rude and made it very obvious for us that we did not want to celebrate our anniversary at this establishment. Went to have a nice dinner and ended up finding a decently sized piece of Saran Wrap in my roll (about 2 inches wide). Luckily I saw it before it was consumed. Somehow was completely wedged in the middle of my roll. Waitress was nice about it but manager did not bother to even come over and apologize let alone take it off the bill or give a discount. I have been coming to this establishment for a long time. The Sushi has always been pretty good and the Service has always been great. We have a 9:30p reservation. We arrived early and we were sat right away. Once our waitress arrived we were already being rushed out and told that the Kitchen would be closed soon. The appetizers (Bang Bang Shrimp and Edamame) were very good. The Pokitini small play was very good as well. We ordered two cocktails at about $18 per. My wife's was good, but after one sip of mine, I was not happy with the drink. I notified my waitress, and she let me know that since I had taken a sip, it could not be returned. Weird. The Irish Pub would have at least offered me some sort of replacement. She asked if I still wanted to return it. I said "yes" considering that it was undrinkable. Mind you, I have never returned a single thing at this restaurant before. We move on. The Sushi rolls (one being a new roll) were not great. The Sushi did not seem uo to their normal standard. No biggy. We asked for a check. After waiting a very long time, I gave the waitress mostly cash and a card to cover the difference. She left for about 15 min. When she returned, she gave me my card back with all of the cash I originally gave her. She said that she never counted the cash a d assumed it was part of the tip. There was $100 in cash. Odd. I asked her to correct this and she seemed confused. I then asked her to just refund it and rerun it. Another 15 min go by with no communication. I go up to the bar and I am told the manager is trying to run it, and he apparently is struggling with this as well. He then finally walks over to me and laughs about what is going on which was very annoying. I pointed this out and he became agitated. I told him that I could get better service at McDonald's and that I was disappointed that the Customer Experience had fallen to this low bar. He asked me to leave. The funny thing is? I was trying to, but still didn't have the receipt I needed. He then provided it and I left. The front of house manager was a kid in his 20s that is way out of his depth. He got so pissed off and looked like he wanted to fight me in the restaurant. I pointed that out as well. Overall, I am disappointed in what this place has become. For the price I pay to patronize this restaurant, the Customer Experience should match. Perhaps the drinks should as well. The entire time it felt as though I was being punished for merely sending a drink back. Never yelled, but I did voice my displeasure. They clearly don't care about the customer experience and with the way they have died the drink thing, times must be tough. read more

First off, make this place a stop in your sushi circles. Don't let my 4 stars fool you, as it would be 5 if it wasn't for the price and size of the place. It's submerged in the booming strip of Canton Street in Roswell, off a dirt road that is very easy to miss. It looks like a former house, and it certainly has a cozy, romantic, intimate vibe inside. They do have Valet parking, so I'd recommend that to save you from the walk. I dropped in here, very impromptu, after coming back from a business trip and also stopped in with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day. I was told it was really good but seeing & tasting is believing. I sat at the bar and waited for my girlfriend the first visit, and LOVED the vibe from the bar. Really cool bar area and only a few seats. We sat at a high-top table on Vday the next visit. I had no idea they had a downstairs area here. It is small but they somehow are able to fit lots of seating options. So, I will say to make sure to get the yellowtail jalapeño shots! Got those both times and they are my favorite. The spicy miso soup is also a hit, and the mushrooms in it are very tiny and not mushroomy at all. It's not as spicy as they say either. My girlfriend ordered the red snapper carpaccio and that was really good, but certainly not filling for the price. We also had the OMG and LOL rolls, which were pretty good. Our vday visit, we had a plate of sashimi and nigiri, and that just wasn't good. I don't know if they just overstocked sushi for vday but it wasn't as fresh as the first visit. I also wasn't a fan of our seating, as they crammed us in a high-top that felt too close to others. I'd request the bar or one of their bench seats. Service was great on both trips. I did pay an arm and a leg on vday (almost $150), so be weary of cost here. I'd certainly stick with the yellowtail jalapeño shots! Great experience at Monkey 68! This is the type of place where you only need to order a few sushi rolls and maybe an appetizer, which I recommend the Bang Bang Shrimp. We ordered 3 different sushi rolls, to split among 3 people. The sushi is kind of like "designer sushi." It's not necessarily better than other sushi restaurants, it just looks super fancy and is very well decorated. The sushi is overpriced, though. I understand the fancy appearance, but the prices are high at around $17 per roll. The best rolls were the Roll Royce and the Mt. Ebi. I was not a very big fan of the Gangnam Style roll. I really enjoyed our sushi, and look forward to coming again in the future. read more
