A few years ago, I was unhappy with the company that I was dealing with for replacement supplies for my bipap plus they were not local so my friend Larry E. suggested Monitor Medical and only had songs of praises for the company and they were here in Austin, TX. When I gave them a call, I was told that I would have to do a sleep study before they could be of service to me. I was not interested in going to a sleep study center to do a sleep study so I put it on the back burner. Last year, my PCP strongly suggested that I do a sleep study because my sleep apnea was not getting any better. I learned that after Covid, a sleep study could be done from the comfort of my own home. Unfortunately, the sleep study outfit that I chose turned out to be a bit unsatisfactory but in the end, Monitor Medical was very useful in getting the approval for my new cpap. Why is owning a CPAP like owning a French car? You can't find anyone to sell you parts but the dealer you started with. I had a CPAP emergency and needed a new part. The thieves I got my CPAP from aren't getting another nickel from me. There's a place in Westlake, but they don't seem to like to pick up the phone or open the door. There's supposedly another place on 183, but the person I got on the phone was obviously at a call center and wasn't going to make it easy. Then there's Tobie at Monitor Medical. I called in the morning. She was expecting a shipment of what I needed today. She asked me to call back in the afternoon to make sure it showed up and she'd be happy to sell it to me. Later that afternoon she confirmed it was in house so I drove on over. A little system data she needed to collect, I paid my bill, and had what I needed to keep breathing at night. These people are not really in business, as far as I can tell. Usually they don't answer their phone and the promised call back their answering machine offers never happens. I did actually once speak to someone there and they told me that I had to have a referral from my doctor before they could do anything for me. After paying for a doctors visit and having an Rx sent to them, they still do not respond to my messages. I need CPAP supplies, not this BS. My Dad came to Austin to stay with us after his home flooded, and when he arrived his CPAP was DOA. Tobie at Monitor Medical worked with me and Dad to get him set back up. We had to make an emergency call with Dad's Dr in Houston who sent over his prescription. Tobie had us set up the next day with a new unit. If there was an option for 4.5, that is what I would give. I called multiple places and narrowed it down to 3 that carried the Resmed Airsense 10 autoset cpap. Monitor Medical was one of the 3. One of the others refused to take my doctor's prescription and a copy of my sleep study because they wanted to run a titration study on me as well. The second, which was rated higher than Monitor, were very nice on the phone but rapidly became difficult when I explained that I had checked with my insurance and the insurance had confirmed that I didn't need to 'rent' the machine for a period of months. They also quoted a much higher price (100+ more) for the same machine than Monitor even after I argued them into not going the rent method. Basically they wanted a fee for me to see the tech over and above my copay. A fee for what? I told them I had been using a cpap for 20+ years and that they wouldn't be spending that much time on me. Monitor did take about a week longer to confirm my price. They also have a phone rep that can be both nice and sort of snappy, depending on when you call and what questions you ask. I do not know if this was a corporate person or someone at the local Manchaca office. This person is the primary reason this isn't a 5* review. I might be nitpicky, but after years in customer service and tech support I expect a phone rep to be nice even if they feel they are being asked stupid questions. She wasn't rude, per se, but she gave the impression that my questions were kind of wasting her time. That annoyed me. However, she was also very nice when I had to reschedule my appt due to my IBS acting up. So, half a star lost. On the day of my new appt, I went in early, was seen early, and was treated EXTREMELY nicely by Tobie. She accommodated all of my requests, such as making sure I got a sim card, understood that I was a long time user and therefore didn't need to spend a ton of time on 'the basics', and even gave me a discount on some extra supplies that I bought outside of insurance while I was there. She was top notch! It can be hard to suss out which of these places are good based off reviews. Like I said, the place that gave me a hard time even though they were professional on the phone, is pushing around 4 stars depending on where you look. Monitor was rated lower, but they exceeded all my expectations. They blew my previous DME, American Homepatient, out of the water. Maybe that will change or maybe I will have a bad experience when it is time to get more supplies. If it does, I'll update, but for now they are the bomb as far as I am concerned. read more

I have used MM for 6 years. I also took my mom there. In person assistance with set up, fittings, review use, etc are always very helpful. They are very prompt and courteous when I reorder supplies or have general questions. The last time I got a new CPAP machine, my sleep doctor acted as my Durable Medical Equipment (DME) supplier for machine, mask--everything. He didn't make much money off doing so, but it was a way of encouraging patient compliance and providing one-stop shopping. Medicare changed the rules a few years ago when it came to limiting DME suppliers in a competitive bid region. Private insurance companies followed Medicare's lead in limiting your choice in DME providers. That effectively cut your sleep doctor out of the CPAP supplies business because they didn't have the volume to bid Medicare competitively. Companies like Monitor Medical took over the driver's seat to fill the service gap. If you're new to positive airway pressure therapy, you have to understand the insurance rules. In many cases, you have to pay a co-pay for the machine. If you don't use it, you lose it--meaning insurance won't pay their share. Like Sting, today's PAP machines monitor, record, and transmit by cellular modem every breath you take. There's no lying to the doctor that you're using the machine when you're not. With the latest APAP machines, it's also more difficult to run the machine "deadheaded" to falsify hours of use. So, if you want to blame Monitor Medical for your machine not being paid for by insurance because you're not wearing your mask for 4 hours each night, I strongly suggest you look at those three fingers pointing back at you. I worked with Maddie to get my new Respironics machine. I'll have to admit I was steered toward the ResMed machine by Monitor. It seems ResMed product are 80% of their business. I had bad experiences with not being able to easily clean my humidifier reservoir and flimsy parts breaking on my last ResMed well before their replacement lifecycle expired. That was never was a problem with my even older Respironics machine. So far, so good with my new DreamStation. Very easy to clean and maintain. And so very quiet to boot. In terms of customer service for the initial visit, Monitor generally met or exceeded my expectations. I scheduled appointments easily with them, calls were returned promptly, and their required paperwork was easily available either by email or online. The only hitch I encountered was when someone else bought the last DreamStation earlier in the day I was scheduled to get mine. True to their word, they had another one in a couple of days later, and I was able to reschedule the moment it came in. The only thing that didn't go well initially was that the cellular modem registration didn't happen. It took two weeks and three calls to get the modem registered and online. That's significant, because that modem is how compliance is measured by the insurance company and the doctor. The first time I called, I spoke with Lauren and she asked me to be patient and wait until the next week because the "Encore" system was down for upgrades over the weekend, which seemed suspicious because I called on a Thursday. After I called Respironics, they told me to call Monitor again because Monitor had failed to register the modem. Tobie got the situation straightened out for me immediately the first time we spoke, and she's been super to deal with on supplies as well. I take a star off for this item, only because it could have had serious financial consequences for me. If I had not been persistent, I could have been faced with a non-compliance verdict simply because a critical task was missed. In case you're wondering, oh yes, I've had experience with other DME providers in town. If for some crazed reason you think Monitor Medical is death-wish horrible, I'll be more than happy to introduce you to the folks at American Hell Patient. I'm sorry, that's actually American Home Patient; I get easily confused about that middle word in their name, just because it so aptly describes the non-symbiotic nature of their patient-provider relationship. read more

I had two very different experiences at this vendor. My insurance company had OK'd a replacement apnea machine. I spoke with Mandy first - she was curt and rude and told me I could have a machine if the insurance company agreed. I told her I had the insurance company authorization in my hands. She continued to warn me I might have to pay for it. I heard they had another counselor named Lauren. I called back the next day and made an appt with her. When I went in and met with Lauren, she was polite, professional, told me right off the bat my insurance had agreed to pay 100%. Couldn't have been more helpful. This is an excellent vendor as long as you choose Lauren. Now that I need supplies, these folks are really bad. I called the Austin office on Monday, left clear call back instructions, and never got a call back. I then tried their toll free number, called twice six hours apart, and never got a call back. So I guess when you need to order the actual, expensive, machine, they are very eager to help. When you come back to refresh supplies (much less expensive than the machine), they simply don't care. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way for me to change my overall rating - it would now be less than one star read more

Things were SO MUCH better when Jesus worked there. He was always on top of things, returning calls the same day and had fantastic customer service. I had started going to Monitor Medical for CPAP supplies. They were the one company that did not overcharge me for supplies. Many other companies would charge so much, I could literally pay in cash and it was way cheaper. After Jesus left, my new point of contact has dropped the ball on a few occasions. I figured i would chalk it up to her being new. I get calls every few months from this girl to order supplies. The last time I emailed her back to send me whatever my insurance would cover. When I had not gotten anything after a few weeks, I called her. It took her almost a week to finally return my call and she claims she had never gotten my email. I still had the email in my Sent folder on my computer, which I almost forwarded her to show she did get it. My biggest complaint is the lack of customer service at this place. If you call the main number, it goes to some corporate call center. You can try to contact whoever your point of contact is. You are lucky to get a phone call within a timely manner. I understand this person may have other clients they are working with, but waiting almost a week to call me back after I call you almost daily to try to reach you is not acceptable. If things to not improve with Monitor Medical, I am planning on taking my business elsewhere. I have wasted too much time trying to get answers. read more

Picked up my mother in law at the airport today for a three week visit. Found she had forgotten part of the power cord for her CPAP machine. Found Monitor Medical online and gave them a call hoping we would be able to purchase a cord on short notice. Well, we ended up talking to Tobie who turned out to not only be very knowledgeable, but gave us the best customer service. We were able to get a new cord and then she answered all of our questions, went above and beyond to explain my MIL's machine and some of the settings. When we left, my MIL said that she learned more from Tobie than from the company that supplies her equipment at home. There was also a nice young man that helped get all the account computer work set up for us but if I try to spell his name, I will get it wrong. Getting in touch with someone at monitor medical is like trying to track down a fucking lowlife who owes you a lot of money. An answered phone call with promises of calls back with more information just lead to you being disappointed and sitting by the phone all while your need of replacement supplies sits by the wayside. I have called them so many times over the last few weeks (I now know the entire recorded message which greets you) and have been forced to leave messages every time I navigate my way through the automated system. Now they are holding my prescription hostage so I can't take my business elsewhere! Awesome! Look, if you ABSOLUTELY HAVE to get your supplies through them, do so. But if you have the option of going elsewhere... RUN THE OTHER WAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!! read more

I am happy to write this review. I feel compelled to give due credit to the Patient Care Specialist, Tobie Galban of Monitor Medical Inc. She deserves and has earned a good recommendation from me. I had a very nice experience regarding obtaining a new CPAP machine. I have been using CPAP machine for almost 30 years. My CPAP machine broke down recently. My son referred to me Tobie Galban. My son had worked with her regarding obtaining the CPAP machine. He spoke highly of her. Now after working with her I fully agree with my Son's opinion. Tobie referred me to a good Pulmonologist, Ashwin Gowda, M. D. It worked out well. Dr. Gowda's office set me for a home sleep study. Dr. Gowda provided the prescription for a CPAP machine. Tobie handled the paperwork and logistics for getting it approved by my Insurance company. She was very thorough in explaining the features of the machine and answered all my questions to my satisfaction during the face to face meeting for providing me the machine. She showed me the three different models of the sample machines including the travelling model. She discussed the different types of masks, took the measurement of my face with a special tool, and selected the appropriate size of the mask. She explained me the different accessories including the mask, tubing, and filter and how often I would need to order the refills in the future on ongoing basis. She demonstrated the different parts, how to read the "sleep report", explained me about the SD card. She explained me to enter my name on the SD card so that it doesn't get mixed up at Doctor's office in case you end up giving the SD card to download the data. She also provided the info regarding the app on the mobile phone to read the sleep report. She set up the options available about the actual operation of the machine, per my preferences Tobie is not only knowledgeable, pleasant to work with and diligent but also very compassionate about her job. NO NOT use this company unless you have no other choice. I have been working with them for c-pap supplies for four months now and I still haven't gotten approval after moving here from out of state. I've lived in two major cities and never had this problem. They don't answer the phone at the office. They asked me to fax documents, but the fax machine just rings and rings. My guess is that Monitor has made some changes, as the lower rated reviews are from a few years back. I headed to Monitor after they were referred by my ENT. Needed to try a full face mask instead of a nasal. I was seen before my appointment time, and Tobie was excellent! Got me in and out in about 10 minutes. The really great aspect was(other companies may do this too, dont know) that I had a seven day trial period on the new mask. Turned out the mask didn't work for me, so I was able to bring it back, and exchange it. Was also in and out in 10 minutes that day as well. The other company I worked for took forever in billing and shipping, and didn't send everything I needed. Sitting down with Tobie to go over everything is really awesome, I look forward to being with Monitor for a long time. read more

I have been out of supplies for 3 months and have had no luck get new supplies. I have been given the run around and lied to so many times. Trying to do business with this company is a dead end road. They do not return calls, they never follow-up on any process that has been started. The only thing they do is promise the moon when you go to their office. But then nothing happens. We made the HUGE mistake of switching our supplier from Apria to Monitor because Monitor is closer to where we live. We have yet to hear back from them on an order that is over 2 months old. We leave messages (they rarely answer their phone) that are never returned. This is only the latest in a series of incidents that suggest these folks don't know how to do business... or don't want to. read more

We have a client who needed a new mask for his CPAP machine. We have been having trouble with other providers trying to get him a new one quickly. I used Monitor in the past and was pleased with the service I received. Then I quit using my CPAP until recently. I submitted prescription and got a prompt reply that my order was ready to finalize once I called them. Well, 10 unreturned phone calls, 2 emails and 2 weeks later I still haven't been able to get in touch with anyone. About 3 phone calls back I did get someone to answer the phone and said my supplies had shipped. I told her I never received anything, and she told me she would investigate and someone would call me soon. No one has. read more

This company supplied us with a replacement machine when mine was damaged. It didn't work properly. For 3 months we asked for a replacement. Still don't have one that works properly. They apparently don't care if the Rx the doctors give require therapy or not...they simply charge for one machine and that's all that is given for 5 years. They said they would mail supplies, but nothing happened for two weeks. When called back, they again said they would mail them. Still nothing.
