This is the place where you stuff your stir fry with ingredients and where quantity takes precedence over quality. This branch isn't in a good location. It's inside a complicated power centre with an obscure entrance and a maze of parking lots. It definitely took me a good 10 minutes to find it at the end. Since I came here for my birthday, my meal was free. To make great use of it, I stuffed my stir fry bowl beyond capacity and added a plate under it to fill even more items...hahahaha. The food is about what you expect for a fill-you-up meal. Not the best quality, but passable for sure. Mongolian grills are usually not my go-to for a dinner spot, but I can't complain at all about free food on my birthday! Reserved a table and it was surprisingly quiet at 6pm on a Sunday. It remained quiet throughout the night, in which the server said was extremely unusual. I definitely wouldn't mind coming here every birthday or if my friends decide to celebrate birthdays here. The diversity of foods here is amazing! It really will satisfy all of the people in your group of friends. No matter if they are Vegan, vegetarian or fish lovers, or carnivores...Mongo's Grill has it all! I had a mostly seafood noodle dish and it was delicious paired with Alfredo sauce. I almost decided on cheese sauce but though Alfredo would taste better with fish. You can really get creative here with all the combinations of food you can make. The place is nice and wide. The build-your-own-stir-fry sounds like a good idea, but after several attempts at this place, I am not a fan. For $11.99 (lunch)/$15.99 (dinner), you grab a good size bowl and fill it with veggies, meat, sauces and seasonings in a buffet style. You then choose noodles, rice or tortillas to compliment your stir-fry creation. I like that they have a very wide selection of veggies. There were 3 different onions, Chinese mushrooms, tofu and even bok choy, just to name a few. The meat selection was pretty average with frozen chicken, pork, marinated beef. I wish they marinated all of the frozen meats, so that they added flavor to the dish. They also had a selection of deli meats such as ham, pepperoni and sausage. I don't usually eat stir-fry noodles with deli meats, so this is kind of out-of-the-box. There were about 10 sauces and about 8 dry seasonings to finish off your creation. They have everything from garlic sauce to teriyaki to chili. There were just vats of sauces to douce your bowl with. They do recommend at least 5-6 laddles of sauce to give it flavor. I usually put more than that, and my creation still turns out tasteless. They do have cards of recipe ideas, but they don't specify how much of each item should go in your bowl. This place leaves me with a dissatisfying meal every time. For the price, I'd rather go to a Chinese restaurant and pay for a noodle and side dish! read more

This place is the subway of stir-fry and that is definitely not a good thing. The selection of items you can choose is pretty good but the overall cleanliness and flavor of the sauces is just disappointing especially considering the hefty price tag. I had a stir-fry with numerous veges, tofu, and chow mein noodles with satay sauce. The sauce was spicy but not at all flavorful. I also had fried rice which tasted like the only "flavor" was soya sauce (which is NOT a flavour, it is a seasoning, like salt not like say...teriyaki). The people cooking my food were very intense and unhappy, one poor kid had a huge burn on his arm covered in a bandage. Overall I will never return or recommend this place to anyone. The food definitely isn't authentic, it is not worth the price, and the place was not at all clean. The only good thing was the guy who "served" us (brought us water and explained what to do) was very nice and appeared to love his job which makes for a better experience. Like I said earlier, this is the subway of stir-fry. It is an americanized version of stir-fry and it is not delicious. read more

Not a great start when they messed up the time of our reservation for 10 (3 young children) this past weekend. We waited for nearly 25 minutes but they were very apologetic and offered us drinks and other options. Manager came over and apologized again and offered to reduce our bill. Servers were very friendly. Food was good, nothing overly special but you generally know what you get when you walk into these types of bbq places. Good variety and you can choose how healthy or unhealthy you want your stir fry to be. What started as a two star review ended on a very positive note because of the genuine and friendly nature of the staff. This is our place of choice for birthday celebrations and location works really well for us. I quite like Mongo's. Being as it's like Subway, you can end up with every meal tasting the same, so you really have to switch up the sauces and seasonings to get a really different tasting meal each time. The atmosphere is usually good, although it gets crazy busy at dinner time and you should avoid it from about 6-8. They will give you a free meal on your birthday if you bring ID, which is a cool idea. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it tends to get a bit messy with so many people grabbing ingredients, but they try to stay on top of that. Also, the bowls for gathering your food are quite small and most people end up with mountains of stuff falling out of their bowls (and adding to the general mess). read more

As a fat guy, I can appreciate the selection of veggies, meats, sauces and seasonings. What I can't appreciate is waiting anywhere from 10-15 mins between the time I've built my stirfry to the time it hits the grill. Outside of dinner (between about 4-8) and lunch (between 11-2) its great. But during those peak hours, be prepared to be standing around, spilling half the contents of your bowl on the floor, waiting to have your food cooked. Also. Those bowls are tiny. I am not. Well, it's simple. I LOVE Mongos Grill. I have been here so many times that I cannot even begin to count. I enjoy being able to pick what I want in my own stir fry and watching them grill it in front of you is so much fun. Sometimes I do wish it wasn't so difficult to keep everything stacked nicely but that is ok. It takes a bit of practice before you are able to truly get the hang of it. Unless they come up with a easier way for us clumsy folk.. It would be nice if they had real crab instead of the fake genre as well. We came here the other day and it was okay but I wasn't overly impressed. The whole experience had its ups and downs. Good: an impressive selection of meat, seafood, veggies, carbs and sauces to choose from. Bad: tiny bowls for collecting your ingredients - my noodles were spilling over the edge of my bowl while I was standing in line to get it all cooked. Good: ingredients looked fresh and were well stocked. And I can't complain about having as much shrimp, scallops and calamari as I could jam into one stir-fry. Bad: lack of clear suggestions for combining sauces and what goes well with what. I did okay with the meat, veggies & noodles. I hit the sauces table and got totally overwhelmed. I ended up with a combination of sauces that was kind of bland. Good: lots of entertaining showmanship at the cooking station. They're very coordinated and the group at the grill puts on a good show. Bad: long wait to get my food cooked. Good: several sides to choose from, including white & brown rice, wraps and some other stuff I don't recall off hand. Bad: I asked for my rice on the side; they threw it in with the rest of the ingredients. Good: I mentioned that I'd asked for the rice on the side, but I told them it was okay (I wasn't that fussy and I wasn't about to start all over.) The manager was near by and pro-actively offered me a card for a free dessert for my understanding and the inconvenience. I really appreciate places that acknowledge their mistakes and put in some extra effort to make it right. All in all the food was decent, and the experience was fun but I wasn't totally blown away by the whole thing. The stuff I picked out was cooked nicely, but I could have used a little more guidance in making good selections. The dessert was good (some kind of chocolate cake - Chocolate Explosion or something?). Service was generally good. A shorter wait on getting my food cooked would have been nice. I'd try it again, but it's not super high on my list of places to eat at. It seems like a fun family place, something that kids would probably enjoy. I had heard such great things, and honestly I was a little disappointed in the experience. The selection of food was excellent, lots of different toppings and sauces. The food was pretty Meh. And the price was expensive for what I got! $20 after taxes and tip, and that does not even include a beverage! For food quality barely above a standard shopping mall food court. My boyfriend and I like to try different asian/chinese/mongolian restaurants in search for some SPICE! So far we have not found a place we LOVE, til we found this place. (Can you really call it that?) First they seat you, take drink orders and leave you to fend for yourself!!! No, they ask you if you have been there before (and I really don't know what they tell you if you say "No"). You take a tiny bowl and choose from over 25 vegetables and spices - like fresh red peppers, ginger, garlic and curry. Combine them with beef, pork, sausage, tofu, noodles, steamed rice, brown rice or make it a wrap. If you are unsure of what will go together, they have little pamphlets near the bowls with suggestions (Chicken Teriyaki being one of them). Then stand back and watch them stir fry your selection on a 650 degree grill. I love it because you can choose what spice level you want and not end up with something you don't like (IE. CABBAGE!! Yuck) Tip: Go before 4:30pm, it is a lot cheaper. After that, prices are hiked up!! Opt for the unlimited bowl for a few more $$$. The pamphlet suggests 2 ladles of oils but 1 is enough (or none if you're using a lot of sauces) My personal fave - start off with vegetables (Broccoli, celery, tomatoes, green onions, red onions, jalapenos). My choice of meat is chicken and trust me, put a lot. The chicken reduces when cooked. Then I put the sauces - I use 1 ladle of sweet & sour, 2 ladles of teriyaki, and 1 ladle of garlic oil. For my spices, I use a teaspoon of mixed herbs and 1 (2 if you want it really spicy) of Cayenne pepper. If you haven't used Cayenne pepper before maybe it's best to try 1 and see if you like it. And finally, I top it off with steamed noodles. Again, use a lot because it reduces when cooked. I seen people with MOUNTAINS of noodles (Like literally. You'd think they were in a circus balancing all those noodles on that tiny bowl) Well hope you enjoy! read more

Didn't take long at all! I do however wish the bowls were bigger. Everyone just stacks up their ingredients anyway! And some of it ends up on the floor which is just a waste. I absolutely love Mongo's! I have gone 3 times and will continue to go many more. If you love stir fry then you will love this place. The atmosphere or the restaurant was great. It is really fun and exciting, great for groups. Although if you want a quiet night out Mongo's would not be the choice for you. The server has always been very friendly and help full especially if you have never been there before and don't really know what is going on. I have always received drinks very fast and was told the instructions very clearly. They are also happy to answer any questions you may have. When it comes to the food it is fresh and there is a large selection of all sorts of meats, veggies, sauces, and spices. The bowls are small, but if you take a look at other people you will find a bowl or two stacked to an almost impossible level. There is a trick to this. Put the meat first (if you choose any) and place it along the sides of the bowl. You can even let it stick off the sides. Next comes the veggies, then the noodles last. The noodles are much easier to stack and won't fall out as easy as the meat and veggies if on top. Sauces and spice then are last. The amount of selection may be a bit over whelming and you may not know what to put on. There is little cards that give instructions on some basic stirfrys or simply make your favorite! You could also look at some stirfry ideas before going. Although I don't get to adventures with my stirfry, my friends have. They put all sorts of things together and it worked out for them despite my doubts. The wait to get your food cooked can be a long since it tends to be very busy (it seems packed at all times!) It really isn't something that bothered me though. If I didn't want to wait in line while my food was to be cooked then I would go to a restaurant that cooks everything in the kitchen while I wait at my table. It is to be expected. I also always had a good experience with the chiefs. They are polite, fast, and seems to have fun with what they do. I saw them talking, laughing and joking around with each other while still getting everything done right. I have not had any experiences where my food was messed up. All and all I love the place. It is a bit more expensive than I normally go out for but I would say it is worth it. I always enjoy the food, definitely get my fill (and then some), I love the fun environment, and think it's a great place to go out in a group and have a good time together. read more

Went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Good thing I had a friend with me to show me the ropes, newbies may be confused. I got the 'one bowl' option and was told to pile as much as humanly possible in the bowl because you only get one shot. I admit it was kind of fun trying to pick what I wanted and making it fit.
