On good days their sandwiches are delicious. They like locals and other Canadians, I would say they are good for friend groups but I don't think this is a place for tourists. I loved their Corned Beef Sandwich and they approved the request for cheese to be added. Their Philly Cheesesteak was pretty good but not the best I've had. Overall I kind of like this place but it's seen better days. I hope more business and success helps.

One day I went into this place and ordered a sandwich. The person preparing it washed her hands and…read moreput plastic gloves on. So far so good. Next, after handling the bread and other ingredients with her gloved hands, she began to handle the uncooked bacon that was ultimately going to go on my sandwich, also using the same gloves. She was preparing to quickly microwave the bacon before placing it on the sandwich. I pointed out to her that she should not be handling the bacon right out of its package with the same gloves that she was using to touch all the other ingredients. Instead of correcting course, by apologizing, switching gloves, or doing something else reasonable, this food handler began to strongly argue with me that the bacon was "already cooked." Why the use of the microwave then? Was it just to warm up the bacon? I did my research online. Packaged bacon is "cured", which means that it is prepared with salt and nitrates to inhibit the growth of bacteria. However, uncooked bacon, especially if it has been left open and unthawed for sometime, can still harbour bacteria and cause food poisoning. So no, I do not want someone handling uncooked bacon with the same gloves that they use to handle all the other ingredients. I especially do not want someone arguing with me about this!

For $8 you can get a hot pastrami sandwich served with hot mustard and city bread rye with a pickle and coleslaw. My fave is their red star reuben ($11) pastrami, russian dressing, sauerkraut, swiss cheese on city bread rye; this sandwich is done panini style so a little different from the classic reuben but very good. They have lots of side/full orders of salads and soups for $2.5/$4. The house salad - mixed greens, apple, feta and cheese - even a side order felt fairly generous for the price. This was a great light salad to balance off the heavier meat sandwich. The salt potatoes - baby potatoes, kosher salt, garlic butter and parmesan was served whole and probably would have tasted better if the baby potatoes were cut up more so the garlic butter and parmesan can coat more of the potato. Nice breakfast/lunch place on the corner of smith and broadway in a newly renovated location. The space is very angular and doesn't offer a ton of seating; it's not the most comfortable space but it's really a place for a quick breakfast/lunch. You order and pay first and then pick up your order so no table service. Everything is served in disposable boxes so it has a bit of a food court feel. It's open Mon-Sat 8:00AM-3:30PM.

They claim their sandwiches are served on fresh house-baked bread, and the pictures on their social media pages look great. The food was excellent. I also like the fact that with their burger menu, they don't specify the patty. You are free to choose between beef, chicken and veggie, which I really appreciate. The price was also really good. The only sticking point was the speed of the service. They clearly needed one more server on duty, as the two servers working were struggling to keep up with cleaning tables, seating people, taking orders and delivering food. We and everyone else who came in after us had to stand awkwardly in the doorway for several minutes waiting for the servers to get caught up with their duties and clear off a table. The food also took a while to get out to us. Having said that, we will be going back, though. The menu has some unique items, the food is excellent and it has overall good ambience.

This past Tuesday, a friend and I went there for dinner before the Dasha concert down the street at the Park Theatre. The lone waitress shared that it was her second shift. The place was packed and we waited an eternity for our drinks, and what should have been an enjoyable dining experience ended up being a tense, unpleasant few hours. The waitress was not to be faulted at all. The management should have known to have another server given that a packed to the rafters concert was going on a block away. The food was great, but I will be hard pressed to go back there again.

We walked in with accessibility needs, and they happily sat us down in the lower level at our convenience, at a large table (two tables together) so that we could get our group arranged with ease. They happily provided as much water as we needed throughout our time. Service was prompt and attentive. The ambiance was only okay, especially being in a side room; the main room is 3 steps up but felt more like the body of a restaurant vs. the trailer of a classic NJ diner. We also all had to walk up in the end and pay separate checks instead of getting 1 or more checks delivered to our table. Diner style, sure, but not what we were expecting coming in. So I would say, between the food (we all really went breakfast-oriented), the service, and the atmosphere, it's somewhere around 4 stars on average. Not a bad place for breakfast or lunch if you can find it (it's not in the most walkable neighborhood).
