This is a good place to eat quite a bit on a budget. The price is right for unlimited trips. Food options were limited but that makes sense in a smaller town and during the week. We pulled up at 6:20pm and there were no other cars in the parking lot or on the street so we were a little worried to try this place out. We had to find a wait person to help answer questions on how many trips etc as nothing was explained when we sat down. We also ordered the crab Rangoon and it was "ok". Make sure to use quite a bit of sauces to add flavor to your meal. Just a handful of poured "scoops" is not enough.

It's been many years since I've been back, and I was so sad to see that they really haven't kept the restaurant up very well. While traveling on business, I thought I would grab some lunch and work on a project. A hostess offered to seat me, but became quickly confused about exactly where to put me and we ended up walking to several areas of the restaurant that had empty tables before she was able to get some assistance and find the right booth for me to sit in. Unfortunately, they do not have Wi-Fi so I wasn't able to stay. I would have ordered their classic "French Cheesy" sandwich which sells for only $4.50 (it is sold a la carte, as all of the sandwiches are). Much of the menu is fried, although they do offer a salad. I choose to keep my nice memories of the granary as a fun, family-friendly place to eat. I was really sad to see that it had aged so much. I hope that it's current owners, or anyone who takes it over in the future will opt to redo the interior & give it the love that it needs. It's meant to feel warm and homey. This has definitely been a treasured restaurant in Norfolk for many years and it deserves to be taken care of.

My first thoughts were ugh, bar food. But it's better than that! It's delicious. I had the chicken taco salad. It was made with a homemade chipotle tortilla shell. It cooked up just like a regular tortilla and was yummy. I really enjoyed the salad as well. It was HUGE. Sometimes taco salads have like no lettuce and they are a soggy mess, other times they have lots of lettuce but no goodies. This was a nice balance. In addition to fresh lettuce, it had spinach, onions, lots of yummy veggies. I didn't really care for the guac and the salsa is Pace. A homemade salsa would text this up a notch or two! My friend also had a taco salad but she had the beef. Both equally full and delicious. The third person in our party stole the show with his meal. He got a philly and probably the best sweet potato waffle fries I've had. They were large and full of soft mash but with a little crunch on the outside. Sometimes sweet potato fries are small and overdone but these weren't. They were sweet like a funnel cake. They were hot and crispy and you get a ton in your order! Literally perfection. We all shared them. Kim was an awesome server!

By far the best Chinese restaraunt in the entire area. In fact, I haven't been to any Chinese…read morerestaraunts in Lincoln or Omaha that impressed me as much as this one, with the exception of the China Buffet/Mongolian Grill. Empire Express is not a chain but a local joint run by a Chinese family with good taste in food. The food is cooked fast and fresh, so you could say this place is fast food without a drive through. The food is dramatically better than your average Chinese fast food . Oddly enough, it's the only Chinese fast food in the entire town. So not only is the food exceptionally good, they don't even have any competition either. A pleasant surprise from a town that hates competition and delights in serving their pig slop to the locals. There are 50+ meals on the menu so there's a pretty big variety of choices, whether you like the simple meat, sauce and rice combination or lots of vegetables and meats. Most people that frequent there are pretty "choosey" about what to order, and that's because certain menu items are excellent and others are sub-par. I usually order breaded/fried chicken or pork with white rice. You have to specially request white rice because most of their meals serve a different kind of rice that isn't as good. The sauces vary quite a bit but are mostly good. They have the best sesame chicken out of any restaraunt I've ever ate at. If you like sweet sauces the orange and lemon chicken are good choices as well. The menu features quite a few spicey options as well. Stay away from stuff like "chicken-fried rice" because it's a bit on the bland side. Their new teriyaki chicken is a grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce and rice and is fantastic choice on the menu. They also have the best hot and sour soup I've ever had, and I'm not even that big of a soup fan. It's full of good flavors and quality incredients. Their crab rangoon is decent but could be better. The egg rolls are very nasty but then again I'm not a huge egg roll fan to begin with. Atmosphere - The place is really clean and pleasant to look at. I enjoy going in there in the evenings because there's usually not too many people in there. I don't know if that's a good thing because they should get more business at nights. They seem to be packed out during lunch time. Service - Very friendly and good at their jobs. A big plus in a town lacking good service. Overall, I give this restaraunt 5 stars. There's some hit and miss stuff on the menu, but you gotta find something you like.

It's over priced for the quality. It's just a lot of filler food drowning in sauce. Would not go…read moreback.
