Pros- Great selection of many vegetables and proteins, and everything appears to be fresh and crisp. The buffet bar was clean, but the restaurant was just moderately busy.. Great taste on everything I ordered and service was fast. Packaging was well done, and no sauce dripped out of the bag on my drive home. Cons- This should have been a5-starr review, but I need to deduct one star for the sad expression on all the employees' faces. I even said hello to the cook as he was preparing my order, but he never made eye contact and never said a word. There is a sign up front at the cash register that says all meals come with rice and soup. When I asked about the soup, they told me that it was only for dine-in orders. Then why isn't that listed on their sign? So, I had to deduct another star for that. I would go back, but I'm just worried that I will get the same lack of customer service, especially if they happen to be more busy than today.

my bowl with rice and egg drop soup!

I have to say, this place is very hidden in the back of this strip mall and you might drive right by it if you aren't looking. I have been here twice now and both times have been really fantastic. the food is extremely fresh. the place is clean. the servers and the chefs are all nothing but kind and accommodating. I could honestly eat here every single day, i'm not kidding! I got the medium bowl ($10) with chicken, beef, broccoli, mushrooms, scallions, red bell peppers, snap peas, and teriyaki sauce, and a splash of sesame oil. they have a ton of sauces and veggies and a few different meats. you pick your bowl up as high as you can and then they cook it right in front of you. they also bring rice and egg drop soup to the table which is unlimited. I look forward to coming back!

a box of noodles with meat and vegetables

Had a bowl delivered via DoorDash. It arrived in perfect condition. It was "blow on it" hot. It was huge! Meats were tender, veggies were crisp. I loved every bite.

a plate of noodles and chopsticks

Very good food. Everything is fresh and organized. They also have good recommendations for sauces. It is quick and a good vibe from the place. But they don't have the best customer service.

Typical Mongolian BBQ joint. Lots of fresh veggies. For lunch they have pork, beef and chicken for protein options. I got a little of all three and my favorite was the pork. The beef was super lean, meaning it turned rather dry when cooking. I used a LOT of the flavoring sauces available, but still had to add soy sauce and chili paste when it was cooked. It still ended up kind of bland. Getting their biggest size resulted in a good amount of leftovers for lunch the next day. This was probably the best part. This is a meal that definitely tastes better after it sits. The meal comes with a bowl of steamed rice and soup. I passed on both because the noodles would be more than enough carbs and the soup was egg drop, which I'm personally not a fan of. Service was friendly and quick with our sodas. Looked like they had beer in a cooler near the front, but I didn't see a menu offering anything else. This place looks a little run down, but seemed clean. The staff seemed to also keep the food options in the bar stocked. I've been to better Mongolian places in the Valley, but I wouldn't pass this one up if I was near it and wanted a big bowl of noodles.

Loved it food was amazing the atmosphere was awesome, the people were so warm and helpful definitely will be coming back in the future

I went to lunch here yesterday and it was quite good. The decor is a little run down but the service was great. This is your typical hole in the wall Mongolian BBQ place were you build your own bowl. The veggies and noddles were pretty fresh and the meat was good. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and for a medium bowl (which was huge) and a drink it was only $9 dollars. If your looking for a solid cheap Mongolian BBQ place give this place a try and you will not be disappointed.

Stir fry without shrimp or crab

I paid an up-charge for shrimp and crab in my meal. When the meal arrived it did not include any shrimp or crab. I called and complained but they wouldn't refund the up-charge or give me credit towards my next meal. Food is decent, but not for the price they're charging.

MONGO! Well, I was a bit nervous when I first arrived at the Mongolian BBQ that is kitty-corner to Winco off of Fairview. However, I was hungry and my boyfriend talked me into it. When we pulled up, guess what is right next-door, CITY BUFFET and well all know how I feel about that place. Mongo BBQ pleasantly surprised me! The veggies looked fresh and natural (hopefully!). There are more veggies at the end of the buffet, so don't forget to save room in your bowl. The meat confused me a little bit because it is frozen. I guess that is how it is suppose to be, but be ready to be in a little bit of shock when you see it. There were lots of sauce options, and boy, do I love sauce! I had no idea what to put in the sauce, so thankfully mongo-expert boyfriend came to the rescue! Looks like he went heavy on the Mongo, Soy, Something Spicy, and Garlic. If you love sauce, I suggest grabbing another bowl and filling it up! All the veggies and meat makes this a great place for some clean eating. Seriously, you can skip the noodles my fellow low-carb dieters. I'll be back. Stayed tuned for my next mongo experience, it's going to be even better!

The rental company didn't give them an option to renew their lease. After 17 years, they are closing their doors without a choice. With closure comes choas. I remember when my family gave notice of our closure. We were chaotic from the time we announced it till the doors closed. Everyone is getting in their last hooray in. I anticipated that kind of madness when we stopped in for lunch today. And I was right, the place was a madhouse. When I have eaten here in the past, there was hardly anyone. It was just another table along with mine. It's always chill. Today on the other hand was pure madness. Tables were full of customers and dirty plates. I went ahead and sat myself and waited for my server. It took a minute for my server to get to me. She was the only one working so I just hung out till she got to me. Tea and menus were finally dropped off and I kicked it till my daughter showed up to have lunch with me. My daughter and I looked over the menu. Knowing it's our last meal at this joint, we decided to go ham. We both ordered soup, a lunch and I also snagged a tofu chow fun for later. My soup order was hot and sour. For lunch I went with your typical order of mandarin chicken, chow mein and pork fried rice. My daughter got won ton soup and beef with broccoli, fried rice and an egg roll. We waited for a hot minute for our food to be prepared. You can tell they were not staffed properly. Only one server with a whole dining room full of guests. I'm sure there were only a couple people working the kitchen trying to push out all of the orders coming in. Our soup did finally make it out. We both ordered small bowls but the bowl size was gracious. They were both hot and steamy. My hot and sour soup was ok. It wasn't really spicy but it did have a nice sour element to it. There were pieces of tofu, bamboo and carrots. It was thick and hearty but overall it was ok. My daughter's won ton soup was average. The broth was nice but there was not a lot of filling in the won ton. It was mainly won ton wrapper. And I found it odd that they put lettuce in the won ton soup. Lunch was dropped off shortly after we started working on our soup. When I placed my order, I had asked for fried rice with my meal. Server said it would be an extra charge and I figured it would be. My plate didn't have the fried rice. It only came with my chicken and chow mien. After I addressed my server about it, she looked completely lost. I got an "ok" and never saw her again. So, I just worked on what I had. The chicken was good. It was fresh this time around. I love the saltiness of the chicken with the sweet and sour sauce. The chow mien will always be one of my favorite dishes. It reminds me of my childhood, growing up at my uncle's Chinese restaurant and eating it all the time. I love when the crunchy noodles get all soft from the sauce. The bean sprouts are my favorite. The chow fun was really good. It was savory, the noodles were chewy and the tofu was perfectly fried. They will always have some of the best chow fun in town. I'm giving today's visit a 5 star but in reality it's truly a 3. I didn't get my rice, our server didn't really tend to our table and I had to get my bill adjusted for extra charges. I know the end of the road is coming soon for them but hopefully they will be able to prepare themselves for the next couple days because the choas will only get worse and clearly they need the extra hands. I wish these folks the best of luck with their future endeavors, whatever they may be. I'm happy I got one last meal in before doors are finally closed at the end of this month. Truly sad that another local joint will be just a fond memory for us now.

Most places have remodeled and taken out the charm and ambiance of restaurants making them stale. Lucky Palace still has that charm and evokes that feeling of being a kid, with your family, on a Friday night family date. I will say the food seems to be on the saltier side here, pretty consistently. And I am on the search for the best sweet and sour chicken in the valley, the chicken was overcooked on the sweet and sour and the sauce on the extreme sweet side. The one time I ordered generals chicken, it was a bit unmanageable to eat because of the salt. I never waste leftovers, I did not eat these leftovers because of the salt content. With that said, I think you can find some good things on the menu. We did enjoy the egg rolls (on the super greasy side), and my parents manage to find great options such as the Lo Mein. Give this a few tries and I do believe you can find a dish you will keep coming back for. Hidden in a strip mall type setup, you would never know it is there unless you are looking for it. I kind of like that. It feels hidden. Like a secret restaurant.

I'm still in the hunt for some good Chinese food. So I have been making my way through the valley…read moreto find it! This joint is real close to my Brother in law's job and had commented that they push out some pretty darn good fried rice. Word of mouth is the best kind of advertising so I'm taking his word and trying it out today. I'm going off of his fried rice recommendation so I'm hoping it's going to be good. I work downtown so it's a close drive to get to this joint. I have passed this place for many years and never tried it out. I know there's a cute panda sign up front but I honestly didn't know what to expect. The building is older which is fine. Hella good food is pushed out of janky spots all the time. Walking in, this venue is tiny. It holds a good amount of tables. It could use some upkeeping and a little updating. It looks very run down, dirty. Janky is fine but it's a turn off when it's dirty looking. Unfortunately I came too late for their lunch menu. I always find it the best way to be able to try a little of everything with lunch combo plates. After checking out the menu, I was excited to see that I could get a small bowl of hot and sour soup. I don't have to commit to a large bowl. I also wanted mu shu tofu. I asked about the tofu and my server seemed confused about it. So, I went with the chicken to prevent any communication issues. I feel like tofu is a standard item in Chinese restaurants so it threw me off that she was confused that I wanted it as an option. While I was waiting for my food, I worked on my hot tea. The pot could use a wipe down. It wasn't the cleanest looking tea pot. My soup came out pretty quick. I had a feeling the soup was pre made since they offer it by the bowl. To be honest, I can tell I was going to be disappointed by the soup cause of the color. It was light, no chili flakes, no bamboo shoots. After taking a couple bites, I figured it was egg flower soup with extra soy for color. They added tofu which is normally in hot and sour. Man, what a disappointing bowl of soup. It was decent for what it was, egg flower but there was no heat and no acidity. They should not be calling that soup hot and sour. The mu shu was dropped off and it looked promising. It was rich in color. There were nice pieces of chicken throughout the dish. The pancakes didn't look like the normal pancakes that normally come with mu shu. They were thick, powdery and looked uncooked. But I was willing to give it a chance. I rolled up a fat roll with the pancake and mu shu. Added a nice amount of plum sauce and dove right in! Ya.... that pancake was not it. It tasted thick, raw and doughy. I removed everything in the middle and decided to eat the mu shu like a stir fry. I asked for a side of fried rice and ate a much as I could. The chicken in the dish was tender. There was a good amount of veggies. The flavor was good. I would have liked more cabbage to the dish. The cabbage adds a nice crunchy element to the dish. Eating it with the rice was good but it would have been nice to have the full experience with the right pancakes. I don't see myself coming back. Service was not even basic, food was dropped off and never was checked up on. The soup was disappointing and misleading. The pancakes were criminal. And you're charged 3.25 for half pot of tea. Mind blowing that you're charged that much for tea and a half pot at that. Most Chinese joints use generic green tea, 50 bags to a box. I know, I served it for years. I can't imagine how much you're charged for soda. The mu shu was decent which gives this visit a 2 star but overall, this visit was not worth the 20 bucks I spent.

The bags arrived promptly, steaming like they had just been hustled out of the wok and into our lives with purpose. Credit where it's due: delivery was fast, everything was hot, and the sheer volume of food bordered on heroic. This is the kind of place that feeds not just your table, but possibly your entire week. Visually? No notes. Golden egg roll, glossy sauces, that comforting, familiar American-Chinese glow that promises indulgence and maybe a nap afterward. And yes, it delivered on the nap. This is heavy food--the kind that makes you loosen a belt and reconsider your evening plans. But then... the flavor. The hot and sour soup leaned a little too enthusiastically into the "sweet" side of its personality, like it had somewhere else to be and rushed the "sour" part. The egg roll came in bold--very bold--with a five-spice presence that kicked the door in, rearranged the furniture, and didn't really ask if you wanted that kind of energy. Across the board, things landed in that curious middle ground: low mein, fried rice not bad, not offensive, just... there. Like a cover band that knows all the notes but hasn't quite found the groove. To be fair, this is American Chinese comfort food in Boise, not a culinary pilgrimage. And in that lane, New Garden absolutely delivers on value, portion size, and speed. You will not go hungry. You may, however, find yourself wishing the flavors hit with the same confidence as the portions. So: shoutout to the delivery game. Shoutout to the sheer abundance. But flavor-wise? It's a polite shrug with potential. Would I order again? Maybe--on a day when quantity feels more important than nuance, and I'm ready to commit to leftovers as a lifestyle.
