Had lunch here on a week day. The variety and selection was amazing. Everything I had was wonderful. Look forward to coming back.

With a family member in the Boise hospital, I had been almost living in the ICU area of the hospital. I needed a change from the cafeteria, which was very good, but it wasn't a Chinese buffet and that is what I needed at the time. Honestly, the place looked a little iffy; I like to call this "adventure dining". Is it good, is it bad. who knows? But you have to go with your gut. Literally. I walked in and was greeting by a nice man immediately. Told him it was first time there and he gave me a brief run down on the place, which was larger than I thought it would be. That was a nice surprise. I grabbed a clean plate and headed into the fray to gather my meal. The green beans were brightly colored and well sauced, so I grabbed those first. General Tsao followed by some shrimp dishes and egg roll. I spied some lo mein noodle as well and added it. Well, I was on plate #3 when I decided that I had enough. I was full and quite satisfied. The price was fair for the quality of food I was presented with. I would be interested in returning for a dinner so the hibachi grill would be open. Beautiful main dining area filled with vases and carved wood. Can't argue with the price either, and the variety of Asian food is amazing. Some of the dishes were quite good. I really enjoyed the sauteed green beans, the Char siu, the bok choy, won tons, and sautéed prawns with shell and head on. I'm sure i would've loved the duck if they had ever refilled it in the 90 minutes our party dined there. Other dishes stood a lot to be desired. Many dishes were soaked in buttery, greasy sauces so thick I couldn't pull out one piece of healthy broccoli. Sushi was old. Battered fried prawns were dry and cold. Oysters were cold. Clams were good but rarely refilled. Service was good. They checked on us regularly. I'd go back but I'd be much more discerning with what I chose to eat. read more

The buffet was pretty messy and things weren't being refilled so for our $40 bucks for 2 people ended up being a bust, additionally the food we were able to eat was not good at all. Everything i touched felt sticky and most of the staff weren't friendly and didn't understand English so asking for anything was frustrating. Look, it's a Chinese buffet, lower your expectations and dive in. My teenage son loves it, I tolerate it for him. Most of the food has extreme sodium. I can't drink enough water after eating here. The chicken dishes are pretty tasty but the noddles and fried rice are not, very dry. I have a simple rule, never... ever eat sushi from a buffet, this has served me well. My son ate the sushi despite my fatherly advice, he lived to Sushi another day. I didn't get ill after eating there BUT, my tummy didn't feel that great. All-in-all not horrible, but I went in not expecting much. It's a buffet, it's gobs of salty food. The 4 stars is really just because they are consistent! Is it the best? No..but it's decent for a Chinese buffet in Boise. Good selection. We've found it's best to go when they will be busy so food is getting replaced often. Staff is always friendly. Good selection...dim sum, sushi, Mongolian bbq on the weekends. The food was endless....the hibachi grill was not open when we went on a Friday sat/sun) which was a bummer but that's okay. Plenty of options to choose from. Service was quick and attentive. The kids loved it. Space was large but felt a little crammed. All you can eat ice cream was a hit with like 8 flavors to choose from. Kids under 3 eat for free. I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is AMAZING!! Its a very cheap buffet too! It was like 20 bucks-ish for me and a friend. The service was INCREDIBLE! The staff are friendly. You get service immediately. I have never waited for a table, always at a table within a minute of walking in. The restaurants decor is amazing. We had the buffet, the food was cold to lukewarm at best. Some of the entrees seemed as though they were made hours ahead and just sitting for hours. Mind you we went in the evening at dinner time, not 2;30 in the afternoon. The service was good, the staff friendly but not worth the expense. Dirty and Disgusting. Walked into the bathroom to wash my hands -- toilet paper all over the floor, no soap in the dispenser, and it smelled horrible. What do you expect from a buffet? You know people are using the bathroom, not washing their hands, and then going right back to touching the shared food handles. The food area was no better -- greasy handles, sticky floors, and crumbs or dropped food in every corner. If you have even a little sense of hygiene, you won't want to eat here. This place is my guilty pleasure. It's the one spot I've found in Boise that has the Asian food I want. I go right for the shumai and chicken feet. If there's roasted duck, I go for that too. My kids love the glutinous sesame balls, the fresh fruit, ice cream, and cotton candy in addition to lo mein and pizza. The staff are super friendly and recognize me and the kids when we're in. They have a soup and Mongolian-style grill section too but I've never tried it. My recommendation is to go at busy times (Lunch 11:30-1:00, Dinner probably 4:30-6:00). Went with family, grandpa, grandma, son, daughter in law, 4 yr old and birthday girl 11. The bill was $95. I gave the waitress a $20 bill for tip. The amount of bill was more than the listed price in Yelp. I didn't know the price of the buffet and didn't see it posted anywhere. My mistake. The food was mediocre and fairly tasteless. The girls love their sushi as it's all very basic and the only fish was marathon crab. It was ok and I didnt expect more. They have clams, mussels (not debearded, ick). Crayfish were frozen. I cannot recall when I have seen a larger buffet with the diversity of food that is available at the China Grand Buffet. Dinner was $13.25 per person. Great value since there has got to be some item you like in this vast selection. All the staff is engaging, welcoming and polite, which is frankly unusual for places like these. We have been to a number of buffets where describing the employees as "gruff" would be the most polite term I can use. Take a look at the photos of other reviews and you will see what we saw. The takeout service is based on weight of the food you serve into your takeout styrofoam box. Pretty and nicely decorated interior. Everything was super clean and the staff was always checking on the food supply in the steam tables and wiping things down. Where else can someone get crawdads, french fries and pizza with dim sum? When you don't want to leave a review because you don't want people to start crowding the place. For a buffet place, the quality is top-notch. The facility could use a remodel, but the food is excellent. We have been here several times and love it. The lunch is only $9,75 and dinner $13.25. There is a huge assortment of food. Kids bar, soups, salad bar, sushi, lots of entrées, dessert bar, and soft serve ice cream. Hands down, my favorite thing is the Peanut Butter Chicken. My wife loves the Spring Rolls. read more

Gonna grade this on the buffet curve. I think people know what 'par' is when going to buffets. On that, this place is above average for value, food offerings, and service. Under $20/adult nowadays is about as good as you'll get for a non-toxic buffet. So I'd say good value. The buffet is about average size and has a couple of extras which are 'premium' including seafood, duck, and hibachi. Those help switch things up. Also I went at a peak time so offering felt like they were fresh and turning well. Service at buffets are typically limited. That stated, drink service and plate bussing were very prompt. The biggest problem are the dining areas feel dated and slightly filmy/sticky. Also there is the normal issue that 'good' items can be low/out for a period of time. That was a lot of words to say this is a solid buffet. But it's not fine dining. Would recommend. read more

Very good selection of food and all the food was hot. The gentleman checking us out to pay was also friendly. The problem was the waiter, we were struggling to get refills. Also right when we sit down don't immediately bring the check, that doesn't send a good impression to the customer at least wait a little bit. read more

Way better than expected. Welcoming polite prompt service. Great tasting food for the price. I was amazed and excited when I seen peanut brittle, cotton candy and the ice cream is somewhat along the left side of the wall from the entrance of the VIP sections. I was thoroughly impressed with this buffet. We were seated within minutes of arrival, with our drink order following a minute later, despite the lunch hour rush on a Saturday. The food was fresh, delicious, with a good variety, including sushi! That last one is important to me, as I've come to be disappointed with buffet sushi, but this was tasty, fresh, with the chef replacing rolls as fast as I and other patrons were grabbing them. Our drinks were refreshed when they reached the half full mark without fail, and each server we passed, while busy, were extremely helpful with any questions we had (where's this type of food, chopsticks, etc.). Horrible. Every single thing I tried was cold. I thought maybe soup so I got a bowl of hot and sour soup and it was cold and smelled exactly like stepping in dog shit. I told the waitress that it was all.cold even the soup. She just said sorry as she took the plates away. Whe I left I said that it was all cold and almost every meat I tried I could barely chew. I don't think I should pat since I couldn't eat any of it I thought he said OK so I started to walk away and he yelled at me that I needed to pay. I said oh OK I'll pay but I can't believe you wouldn't apologize for how terrible it was. I can't believe they are in business. How many people are getting sick from this place. We've been to China Grand Buffet many many many times over the years. And we like it well enough. They have a significant assortment of Chinese food, some American things like French fries and tator tots, fresh fruit, desserts like almond cookies and little pieces of layered cakes and ice cream, and sushi. They'll have protein like chicken, and you can get pineapple chicken, mandarin chicken, chicken and broccoli, peanut butter chicken .... there's probably more, but like I said - an assortment of items and an assortment within the categories of food. Only a couple of things that bother me - that don't stop me from returning - is that the tables don't seem to get clean. I have watched them wash the tables down after people leave and it doesn't appear to get a good washing. And then when I have sat down at a table it has a stickiness to it. Sometimes I wonder if there is a cleaning agent in the towel they are using or is it just water? The other thing is that they have signs that say kids under 10 must be accompanied by an adult to the buffet. And I have never seen it enforced and almost always see little kids there making a mess ... or taking something and putting it back! Yikes. It's a good value though because they have shrimp and crab and it's all you can eat. I paid $23 for lunch for my son and I and that included sodas (not included in the price, and you do get free refills). read more

DONT GO HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just went there tonight and I am absolutely disgusted five minutes after being there I see a mouse just walking around like it's part of the staff, The seafood smelled so rancid . their chicken wasn't even cooked all the way through it's still had feathers cooked into it. their beef products were either tough or slimy I went to go complain and and the dude only wanted to take my $50 ticket down to 31$ I'm definitely calling the health inspector as soon as they open in the morning save yourself the trouble from camping on the toilet from having diarrhea or needing to throw up. read more

This buffet isn't anything special. The food was subpar but the server was nice and attentive. We were surprised at the lack of offerings; pretty standard Chinese fare. For comparison, we ate at another Chinese buffet in Nampa where they have a huge spread. We found the desserts sorely lacking so we stuck with the soft serve ice cream machine. Their fruit offerings are pretty good. The chow mein was bland and the egg rolls were greasy. Lack of beef dishes as well. We were extremely surprised when we walked in that the prices were not advertised. We did our homework before we chose the restaurant and saw that on their website a weekday lunch is listed at $9.75. As soon as the server brought us or drinks she also left the check. To our dismay we were being charged $13.25 each which is the dinner price. We called the server over and asked her about the price and she said because it's a holiday. We didn't go on Thanksgiving or Easter; we went on MLK day. Totally ridiculous and price gouging! Every dish was cold. Barely luke warm. I tried 20+ dishes and they were all one level above cold. You should be able to keep food hot. It's hard to screw up Chinese in my book but this wasn't great.
