Mona's occupies a rather hidden spot in Tarzana and I would call it a hidden gem due to the good quality, flavors, and because it is tucked in a small Ventura Blvd strip so it's definitely a neighborhood spot. It's a somewhat of a small space inside with 10 or so tables with a large mirror that makes the space seem larger; the addition of some seating in the front patio helps. Brick walls, a few portraits and some jazz music make up the little ambiance. The kitchen is easily visible as well. Overall it has a cozy friendly setting with a low key, comfortable, unpretentious vibe. There is a shared small parking lot besides any street parking. The menu features a nice selection with Lebanese classics included. I have yet to expand on my choices really but plan to. I've been continuously ordering the chicken and beef shawarmas which are both excellent in taste and portion; both are served with rice, hummus and salad. The house pickled items served on the table are a treat and add to the tastes. Prices on somethings seem a little high but otherwise are fine.

Mixed Grill plate, salad, and hummus come with it as well.

We were on the hunt for something new and healthy to order on DoorDash and came across Mona's Kitchen thanks to trusty Yelp and we're so glad we did! We ordered the Grill Mix Kabob and Beef Kabob plates, and we were absolutely blown away. The meat was perfectly cooked: juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The hummus is truly to die for, so creamy and delicious. It's a bit on the pricier side, but, the quality and flavor stand out. You can tell everything is homemade with care and fresh ingredients. Even my kids couldn't get enough. We'll definitely be ordering again. Highly recommend Mona's Kitchen if you're craving flavorful, high-quality Mediterranean food.

TLDR: Can't tell you much about Lebanese food, but I can tell you that Mona's Kitchen is not somewhere worth sleeping on. Give it a try ASAP, not just to support small businesses but to try the amazing tastes served here! - - - - - - Lebanese food... do I know what it is? Nope. Try it anyway? Heck yes! And being in a plaza with parking? Sign me up! I entered shyly and ordered and the Shish Tawook, not sure what to expect. First came a small dish of olive, pickles, and radish (?) appetizers - a mixture of salty and sour. I wasn't sure what to expect, but ate them - oh how I wish you could've seen the faces I made from all that sour. The Shush Tawook eventually came, and I have to admit it was better than I had expected. Between the thick rice grains, the tender chicken, or the pita and hummus / white garlic (?) mix, I really wasn't sure where to stop. My only dislike was how sour most of the food was. I can usually handle sour, but I think this was a bit more than I expected, almost as if many dishes were flavored by lemon. The staff working at the time (George?) seemed to be well known. Every customer knew him by name, and it wasn't busy when I visited. Breaking out of my shy boy moment, I asked if they frequented often since they knew George, and they mentioned how they come three times a week!

Beef kebab, marinated tenderloin, medium rare, and cooked to PERFECTION! (Entree) Labneh & Grape leaves. (Truly delicious!)

All I can tell you (without writing a book) is this little restaurant is the real deal and is a gem, tucked away in the corner, and the food is SO fresh, and SO delicious, I am really regretting not getting some baklava! LOL! (But I'll be back!) This was my first experience at Mona's Kitchen but it certainly won't be my last. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could. All these flavors!! YAY! So YUMMY! Thank you for such a beautiful, delightful, experience... and an unbeatable "breakfast", too!!

Wow. Top tier Lebanese food. The babaganooj was the best I've ever had. The rice was perfect, not dry, and everything felt so clean. I thought the chicken shawarma was excellent. I'll def be back and taking my parents next time!

The garlic paste? Best I've ever had. And the best part: you can order anything off the menu and it'll be fire. No misses. He stays open late for pick-up or delivery, which makes this place clutch. do yourself a favor and check out mona's kitchen! ordered a chicken shawarma plate to go, planned on saving half but it was so good, i finished it in one sitting. the chicken was perfectly seasoned, fresh hummus, perfect garlic sauce and delicious rice! every bite is so satisfying yet leaves you wanting more. their baklava was amazing, fresh and tasty! george was very friendly and helpful, as well as the other gentleman cooking. not sure why this place isn't busier; it is a hole in the wall spot but it's sooooo delicious! one of the best restaurants i've been to in cali. from a walk-in, my order was ready in 5 minutes. i'll definitely order from here on a regular basis. ambiance: 4.8/5 food: 5/5 service: 5/5 mona's kitchen: 5/5

*********Beware - Do not go here ********** I left my credit card at this restaurant and drove home without it. Within hours of my meal-either the owner or the guy working there went to VONS and charged over $500, then to Bed Bath and Beyond and charged $1800.00. We stopped at Mona's Kitchen in Tarzana for some Lebanese food, there were other choices for lunch but it was my bad luck I chose this place. We were the only ones there... food was just OK. Now you know, it's your call as to whether you want to deal with dishonest and perhaps desperate people. read more

Just ordered takeout last night from Mona's, we are repeat customers. My wife was born in Beirut, so she is very picky about her Lebanese cuisine. As always the chicken breast kebab was amazing, super tender, incredible spices and perfect char. Rice pilaf was perfect, super moist and buttery. Side of grape leaves was tender, perfectly cooked rice and a little bit spicy, so good. We think they make the best falafel in town, super crunchy outside, but light versus some places that make it really heavy and dense. My wife says it reminds her of her moms. Could not recommend the place more highly. If you live in Tarzana, or are passing through definitely check it out. read more

AMAZING food! We got this spicy cheese appetizer and the foul appetizer (mostly because of the name). I wasn't sure about the cheese, but it is one of the tastiest things I've eaten! And the foul is so warm and comforting. The chicken and beef shawarma are to die for, and you get salad and hummus too. I can't believe how good it is!! read more

LISTEN UP GUYS this place is the real deal. First off, our server Roy was great, and brought out home made pickled cucumbers, olives, and turnips which were all excellent, and I don't even like olives! We had a falafel plate and a beef kabob plate. Beef was very tender and tasty, rice was great, hummus was delicious because it wasn't inundated in garlic. Salad had a wonderful lemon dressing that was not over powering. Falafel was one of the best I've ever had. Again, because it did not fall prey to the usual pitfall of over garlicking. Perfectly crunchy and flavorful. Pita bread was hot, thin, and fresh. Tahini was perfect. Owner George came out and checked on us toward the end of the meal. Real classy gesture. And of course, you can't go wrong with Julio Iglesias on the speakers, reminding me of the romance of a by gone era. Thanks Mona's kitchen! read more

The food was fresh and delicious with a friendly staff and a great location in the corner of a nice little strip mall on Ventura Blvd. I could tell that the people making the food actually cared about the product they were putting out. My only issue was the price/portion. I felt it was a little overpriced for what you got. If the price were lower or the portion bigger then it would have been 5 stars for me. The falafel were great too, but $8 for four? I've never seen falafel cost that much. Still it's good and worth a stop by to judge for yourself. read more

Mona's kitchen is a charming restaurant with delicious food and great service. I was surprised by the authenticity and quality they delivered their food with. There aren't many places that can do middle eastern/Mediterranean well. But Mona's Kitchen is able to do so exceptionally well! I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone (middle eastern or not) who's looking for an awesome Lebanese cuisine experience. Some of my favs were the: shawarma, kibbeh niyyeh, hummus obviously, and fattoush. Ps. You can't go wrong giving this place a try. read more

Amazing food. Juicy meat, Fattoush is just like home but even better, grape leaves with the perfect amount of tang, very fulfilling felafel.. everything is just perfect. Delivery app drivers are careless and could ruin the experience by letting the food get cold or soggy. Experience the food in person at the restaraunt and say hi to chef George! Interesting Lebanese restaurant. Food quite good, service not so much. Wasn't greeted on arrival, so just took seats and waited quite awhile before being approached -- when finished had to wait excessively to get check. Tried several dishes and were pleased with most although I wouldn't call the spinach pie a pie but a spinach turnover. Tried a dish called foul that was quite good -- various beans in a sauce. A sausage dish with tomato was a bit over cooked but still enjoyable. Decor ok, parking can be iffy. Food is good enough to warrant further visits. read more

Delicious Mediterranean food. Owner was very nice. Everything was great. Not spectacular ambience but it was fine. And they let us sit and didn't rush. I got the grilled chicken. It was excellent. Best humus ever (sorry mom). Loved the quails with lots of garlic & cilantro. Couldn't get enough of baba ghanouj. In a minute, stuffed grape leaves disappeared. Tender, with just the right amount of spices, the shawerma was spot on. I was so nostalgic eating the fried sardines, just like my grandma would make. We don't usually care for tongue, but it was tender, albeit a bit too sour for my taste- none left over as my lunch mates devoured it. Tabouleh was fresh & crisp. Coffee & dessert to top it off. Found this place by accident today and WOW the food was outstanding, we ordered like 10 dishes and shared them. I loved it since everything was made FRESH they didn't just put stuff on a plate from yesterday and serve it up... so YUM!!! I'd give these people 10 stars if I could. My wife yelped this place so we thought we would check it out. BEST LEBANESE FOOD IVE EVER HAD AND IM NOT EVEN LEBANESE. Everything was delicious. There were 6 of us tonight and each of us is super picky with sophisticated palates. We were so amazed and pleasantly surprised by the deliciously authentic and fresh meals prepared right in front of us in the open kitchen. Everything from the hummus, baba ganoush, kabobs, kibbehs, salads, crispy cawliflour and spicy fries tasted incredible. We spoke with the chef and he explained how he prepares everything fresh on the spot. This place is a hidden gem!!! Will definitely go back there. :) read more

It was dry and just not good at all. On the way out we spoke to the owner and mentioned how salty it was, to which he said he knows about it and people complain about it often. On 12/15/20 I ordered $95.00 dollars worth of food through postmates and they canceled My order after picking it up due to Driver emergency. I was told I needed to place my order again, minutes after placing my order again before This George Guy called me from Monas kitchen asking what kind of game are we playing, and asked me if I already placed the order, I said yes! but I never received it, before I can tell him what happened he started yelling at me and cursing me out he then stated he will not place another order. mind you he's getting paid twice once from postmates canceled order, and from me again for the second order ... this George guy is crazy, super rude, And disrespectful .
