This was only my second time at the Chop House (my first being about year ago for my wife's…read morebirthday) even though my wife's family are what you could call regulars. My wife again chose The Chop House for her birthday dinner celebration and for great reason! We came on her birthday, a Tuesday evening, for drinks and appetizers in the bar area. The gentleman working valet was very respectful and professional and while I can take or leave valet in most cases, he definitely added to the upscale experience of the entire night. Upon seating ourselves at a high-top, both bartenders on shift greeted us with huge smiles and very warm hello's. They are familiar faces to my wife's family and were genuinely happy to see us. Unfortunately, we learned my wife's family's favorite server, Debbie, recently retired but great for her! The bartenders were fabulous themselves. Service, personability, mixology skills were all top-notch. They fit the sophisticated vibe of the restaurant perfectly. We started with drinks of course! A Stoli Elit Martini with a twist, a Dirty Martini, an Apple Butter Old Fashioned, and a Tito's and Club. The drinks came out beautifully. Smooth, chilled. I ordered the Apple Butter Old Fashioned as I was intrigued, but skeptical. While I thought it was good, I'd prefer a regular or Smoked Old Fashioned to the Apple Butter. My wife loved it though. We ordered lots of food to split and each appetizer we picked was as good if not better than the next. The Tuna Nachos fresh and had a tropical, savory flavor with pineapple mixed in. The Kona Tips were tender, full of flavor coming from the Kona crust and sautéed mushrooms/onions, and were served in a skillet full of sauce perfect for soaking up with bread. I actually liked the Kona Tips appetizer more than I liked the Kona Crust I got on my NY Strip I ordered last year (the Strip was great I'd just prefer no Kona crust on the entree). The Flatbread De Jour was a Kona Tip flatbread, which you may call us crazy for ordering two Kona Tip inspired appetizers, but the Kona Tips are just that good. The Oysters we had were small (just how I like them) and were up there with the best Oysters I've had. We finished up with Fried Calamari. They were lightly battered, fried nicely, tender, and served over a bed of different hot peppers (when I say hot, I mean it!). Everything was delicious and there wasn't one appetizer we chose that I wouldn't order again or recommend to others. We did order a few more drinks throughout the night -- another Elit Martini and a Hendrix Martini with the appetizers and then Bailey's on the rocks and Frangelico on the rocks as after dinner, dessert drinks. We ordered a Brownie Sundae for the table for my wife's birthday while she was excused from the table and the bartender brought it out with a lit candle. The bartender also brought out a complementary miniature Crème Brûlée for my wife as she acknowledged The Chop House's Crème Brûlée as one of her favorites earlier in the night when we were talking about the menu. I thought the entire night went as good as you could have hoped. Valet, bar service, food, drinks, desserts, atmosphere. Everything was amazing and most importantly my wife had a great birthday. This is two years in a row we celebrated her birthday at The Chop House and I wouldn't mind seeing this turn into her birthday tradition.

He checked on us through out our meal to ensure we were enjoying our meal. We had the calamari and dozen raw oysters which were both fresh and delicious. We had the Chophouse steak experience which worked out perfectly for our table of four and actually could've feed 5 easily. It consisted of 4 cuts of steaks and my favorites were the filet and ribeye. They were seasoned perfectly and grilled medium rare. Our sides were mashed potatoes, CH hash browns, and grilled asparagus. The weakest link was the asparagus which were small in size but still tasty. I will definitely be back based on service, food and value. This is a perfect restaurant for celebrations, dates and casual dining. Definitely a gem of a restaurant. Will be back sooner than later.

I believe her name was Kate or Katie (sorry a few weeks late writing this). She made sure we received white glove service while here. The restaurant is dark, but it really sets a nice tone for the fine dining experience that will occur. I loved the service from the bartenders while I was waiting for my group as well. I'd certainly go back here to try even more dishes, but it is a good spot to stop and one where the food is actually worth the price.

I was torn between here, Alpen Rose, and Butcher and Singer. This one was also close to the Hyatt Centric so I made a reservation for here. We got seated in the very corner of the dining room which was perfect. Otherwise, the tables here are way too close together. Dropping $300+ on dinner and being 3 feet from the table next to you is crazy. Now, the best item of the night was... **The FREE POPOVERS** I guess that can't be all that great if the best item on the menu is free. I'd come back here and keep getting more and more rounds of popovers and maybe skip a bunch of the other items we had. I must say the restaurant is beautiful inside. Up first, I had a $20 Smoke gets in your rye. Sadly, there is basically zero mezcal in the drink. There is absolutely no smoky or burnt taste. Pass on this drink. Up next, I tried a $23 Bombay Sapphire (Dirty Martini), and it was standard as it should be. Great blue cheese olives here. To start we split the $18 Caesar salad. We both really liked the salad. For the main entree, I ordered the $89 Ribeye. I thought it was just alright. The tricky thing at steakhouses is if a ribeye is done right it's the best thing on the menu. Here it's pretty bland. No seasoning, no salt, just a straight up slab of meat. It was fine, but not what you'd expect for a fancy steakhouse. My mom ordered the $72 8 oz filet mignon. And per usual, her filet was better than my ribeye. But it too was also very plain with little to no seasoning. For sides, we got the $18 mushrooms, and the $15 creamed spinach. I'd totally skip the spinach next time. The server insisted they were great, but it wasn't. Whoops. The mushrooms are totally worth ordering and was the 2nd best item of the night, after the popovers. We had a $16 deep dish cookie for dessert. Both of us really liked this. Would totally get this again. We spent over $300 and I thought the food was slightly above average. Once again, the popovers were the star of the night. If I'm back in Philly, I'll try Alpen Rose or Butcher and Singer next time.

Group event, went as part of a holiday party and the food, service and wine were all on point. This was a long happy hour not sit down so I cannot attest to a large group sit down dinner. Lastly dining in the main dining room, 6 people, Saturday night. Service was thin, read, our server was busy with a large group in the back and the neglect was evident. Now this doesn't mean the rest of the restaurant crew couldn't step in but really didn't. We were graced with a water refill once over the course of the dinner, although the friendly server who did pour the water said she walks around to fill water, she was never seen again. Our entrees were brought by a group of servers who disappeared after placement of the plates. So it would appear people were working they just seemed to ignore our table. Food was great, I wouldn't have gone if I didn't think the food was on par, but spending this kind of money you want a balance of service and food. You can see the accumulation of glasses that went on removed between wines. Now happy hour is discounted and you are at the bar so you get front and center service. Standing in the group room you are able to flag a server, sitting in the middle of the dining area and being largely ignored just rubs you the wrong way. I had two people ask why are you going to Flemings when I told them our plans. A competing steak house at the Cherry Hill Mall, we have attended many, many times without fail. You don't know how good you have it until you go someplace else and realize service is a lost art at some places. I am posting more for public service announcement, i would hope management reviews and tries to address this rather large service gap. I have never had this issue at the capital Grill, so it is disappointing to encounter it here, particularly when the food was on point.

We celebrated my birthday there and I was a bit shocked when they didn't offer to comp a dessert, since most steakhouses usually do, but I didn't mind as it's not expected. Our second visit didn't live up to our first time experience. The steak we ordered was so raw that it was inedible. Luckily, we got 2 big entrees so we were able to enjoy one and take the steak to go and cook it a bit more to enjoy for dinner the day after. This third visit REALLY threw us off. First, we waited over 30 minutes to be seated. When we were finally seated, we were seated in what is likely the most uncomfortable seat in the restaurant. You would think if you just made someone wait 30 minutes past their reservation, you'd maybe give them the bigger table that's available to get them back in your good graces. I will say most of the food was very good. We ordered the crab and artichoke appetizer which was good but not great, and for dinner we ordered the duck which was cooked perfectly and the ribeye which was also cooked well. I had mentioned it was my birthday at the beginning of the meal. Since I didn't receive anything with my last birthday experience, I had no expectations of a comped dessert. That was until the young lady at the table next to us received a comped baked Alaska for her birthday. When it was my turn for the waiter to offer a dessert we were asked if we wanted to order anything. We said no and asked for the check. When they brought us the check, they finally remembered we had been delayed half an hour and that's when they offered a comped dessert. Why is it that someone else got a free dessert for their birthday and not me? If you're going to offer that to one you should offer to all. Other than that, the service overall was very lacking. We were checked in on 3 times during the night whereas the table next to us received constant check ins. Not sure what that was about since we had the same waiter. We were also seated and ordered before the table next to us and they received everything before us. Appetizer, dinner, dessert and check. Not sure why this happened but after tonight's disappointing experience and overall food inconsistency I have decided not to dine here anymore. More for tonight's service than anything else. Disappointing and overhyped.

They also were very kind in offering us a comp dessert for our anniversary which we got to pick. Typically restaurants just bring out whatever dessert they want so I appreciated that we got to choose. We chose a vanilla Carmel cake. It was good but we were also so stuffed! Minus 2 stars - as the end of the night, our server disappeared & when he did reappear, I could never get his attention to get the bill. I flagged someone else down but they just shrugged. It took me putting my jacket on (& 20 extra mins) to get Lawrence's attention. Also, it was close to the end of the night as we were wrapping up - maybe 9:30ish. There were still PLENTY of guests eating dinner, and the workers started breaking down tables in our section, moving things around, replacing large tables for smaller ones, etc. We're trying to have a nice (expensive!) dinner & workers are cleaning up around us. What a buzz kill. Remember I was the one trying to GET my servers attention - trust me we didn't overstay. Honestly, eh - I wouldn't recommend.

Instead I got layers of gray looking eggplant that had no coating, scant ricotta cheese if you can find it, just weirdest looking stuff I've ever seen. It was so below my expectations I mentioned I didnt care for it. 27 dollars, I was asked if I wanted something else but since I ordered a side of fettuccine Alfredo which I hadn't touched yet I declined. Instead of taking the entree away and taking it off the bill, the mgr asked everyone at my table if anyone wanted to take it home. 2 people said they would out of politeness, thinking they were helping not waste it, instead I was charged for it and paid almost 30 dollars for an entree I didnt even get-to take home that I did not want because it was the grossest version of the dish I had ever seen but the option to take it off the bill was taken from me! I didnt eat the nasty salad that came with the meal because you dont get a choice of dressings, they tell you it comes with a homemade house dressing, i thought it would be an extra virgin olive oil and vinegar, but noooo, it was a sickeningly sweet orange looking stuff like that French dressing everyone knows on a bed of wilted salad greens that wasnt even the kind that crunches, it was, flaccid with a too thick piece of cucumber on it, and a little tomato. I heard the food was supposed to be so good here, and my expectations were pretty high! Not a gnocchi in site on the menu, my daughter had a special she didnt eat, some kind of chicken with peach that had a nasty favor that just didnt go together in azweird sauce, she took hers home. My side of fettuccine Alfredo wasnt tossed, it had a pre-made alfredo sauce that was ladled on top of the pasta but never coated on all the pasta! Im mad! I took that Alfredo home and when I took the container lid off it was, hard as a rock, congealed as,Alfredo leftover sometimes are but no butter in sight, and not sure it was cream, idk what it was, possibly a betchamel sauce that was made to appear like an alfredo? but it tasted like *?^&, im out 50 dollars towards the tip, 27 for the eggplant, 15 for the fake Alfredo and I feel ripped off. Ill never recommend this, place, ill never return, and I happen to know really good food but for my experience it was a waste ! The server was just ok, but didnt add anything to our dining experience! A better meal at a local diner could've been a lot better. This was a 50th birthday party,at least the server could've been more fun and personable. Sorry, not sorry. I still feel like I got ripped off.
