I can't get out of this place fast enough. Maybe it's just me. But maybe isn't. After a long awaited visit it disappointed. The noise level was ridiculously excessive to a point it drove me away. If you are looking for quiet place or a place you can talk to your date. Think again. I can't imagine a busy weekend night. The food was delicious, fresh made pasta, sauce, and generous portions. However please don't make me pay $3.50 for bread - delicious as it was it really should be part of the meal. The server was missing. I saw him to welcome me, take my order, drop the order and then to drop the bill. One of the worst experiences I've ever had. When we were greeted at the door by the staff, Lisa, the owner asked us if we were vaccinated. After telling her we prefer not to answer I heard her tell her serving staff "seat these two in a corner". I reminded her that we had a reservation with our family. When our family showed up she proceeded to ask them if they were vaccinated as well, which they replied that they prefer not to answer. Everyone else coming in the restaurant was being seated and not being asked about their vaccination status. They told us our table was ready and when we sat down the servers continued to walk around us without greeting us or taking our order. We set a timer and it reached 15 minutes until we got up and left without any service. I understand a private business can make their own rules regarding the guests they would like to serve, but there was nothing posted on the door saying if you're unvaccinated that you are not welcome, which was clearly implied by the owner. This was along the lines of discrimination. We were intentionally not served because we refused to tell this owner our vaccination status. I will never return to a facility owned by Lisa. Please remember it is ILLEGAL to require proof of vaccination as a condition for entry or service to any business, public or private. Shame on this company. Reminder: Title III of the U.S. Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination based on medical condition (for example: unvaccinated in a private business such as grocery stores, banks, restaurants, hotels, retail stores and all public facilities including schools). She acts like you are a complete burden when you walk in for a reservation made days ago. Her snide comments definitely do not make you feel welcome. Two nights in Eau Claire on business trip, tried this the second night with a group and couldn't have been happier with our choice. A great old store-front restaurant downtown, pleasantly decorated in an eclectic manner with some local art. The chandeliers with wine bottles were my favorite! But the real reason to visit is the drinks and food. I only had one cocktail, the limoncello martini, and I'm still thinking about returning just for that martini... I think it was the splash of cream. We shared several appetizers, my favorite was Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes and pear, and other things I can't remember but they all blended so well. The meatballs were also very good, and several shared a wild game board that was interesting and seemed to have rave reviews. Dinner was an excellently prepared halibut and risotto. Dinner night here with a group of 14 people. The atmosphere was great. The waitresses always made sure everybody had their water glasses full as well as drinks. I ordered the grilled chicken with grains. The chicken was perfect and the dish was appealing. My date had the pork chop. I had a bite and it was the best tasting pork chop I have had. Though the waitress got a few things mixed up when placing the order from our large group. They apologized and compensated for the mix up. On Friday (5/12) my girlfriend and I came to the restaurant and had one of the worst experiences I have ever had at any restaurant. We have been to your restaurant three times in the last two months spending between $75-$100 every time. Yet it still amazes me that every time we enter the business we get an automatic bias from the wait staff because we are college students. This is reflects on the poor quality we have had the last several times we have visited the restaurant. It seems strange to me that these biases are place apon us because we are paying with the same currency and giving the wait staff the same 20% tip that any "adult" would give. Not to mention the wait staff messed up our order twice in one meal. Bring the completely wrong entree to my girlfriend and giving me a "chicken ceaser salad pizza" with no chicken. Yet the bais plays back in and not a sorry was said by the waitress. Management should teach the staff universal respect seeing as they have no way of telling who I am and they end up judging a book by its cover. I have mixed feelings giving such a low rating, because the food was excellent and the waitstaff friendly. But the rude, snippy, nasty owner, Lisa, leaves me no choice! She was nasty from the minute we checked in(with a reservation) and acted as though we were an intrusion on her evening! I have had veal, short ribs and several pasta dishes over the last few years and always am pleased with the flavor, portions and service. The bourbon scallops and salmon were perfect! I have been here many times and tonight, I was sad that the beet salad is no longer served with the amazing goat cheese. We have been long time Mona Lisa fans - which is why our experience yesterday was so disappointing. We had a reservation at 6:15, and arrived early at 6:05. No problem being seated, ordered apps and food by 6:15. Waited an exceptionally long time for bread and olives (our apps). At 7pm our waiter came out and told us it would be another 30-45 minutes for our meal. Everyone around us, including people sat after us had their meals, and we had already been there for almost an hour. We chose to leave hungry as we had a limited time. I don't understand why it would have taken an hour and a half to make 2 pasta dishes. It felt very personal, or as if our waiter had forgotten to put our food in as we were the outlier. We were given no explanation and no apology. Pretty uncharacteristic, and I would have emailed this commentary but there is no contact information (aside from a phone number) on the website. read more

Very nice modern Italian restaurant. For an appetizer we split the goat cheese dish. Excellent, the sauce made it a level above what you usually get. For entrees we had a cheese pizza, carbonara, spicy shrimp and a vegetable pasta. All were good, even the plain cheese pizza stood out. Serving sizes were filling but not over the top. Very nice selection of wine and spirits. Deserts were good, but a little heavy on the liquor for my Italian grasshopper. Prices were moderate, not cheap or expensive. Great decor, good vibe and top notch service. Definite repeat in the future. read more

This is big city dining in a small town. The restaurant has a hipster vibe. The bar offered a nice selection of wines, but I opted for the mojito, prickly pear flavored. ...so good! The outdoor patio is adorable and inviting from the flying cow to the fireplace. We had the stuffed figs as our appetizer. These were outstanding! The presentation alone was beautiful, but the combination of the figs and cheese was brilliant. They melted in your mouth. For my entree, I had the wild mushroom ravioli with grilled chicken. I did substitute the goat cheese with feta cheese. The amount and assortment of mushrooms was amazing. The sauce used complimented the ravioli, chicken, and mushrooms. The tiramisu was a great way to cap off a spectacular meal. read more

An amazing restaurant the atmosphere had the feel of a soho shotgun restaurant. We took a group of thirteen and they accommodated us very well. My lamb shank was fall off the bone and the Brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection. I will say the calamari was chewy and a little bland for my taste. The Meatballs parmesan a smidgen dry. The signature Sangria was praised by our sangria snob. The olive appetizer and the Bree and tomato chutney was a pleasure in every bite. I've been here twice and will continue to return. Can't wait to bring visitors with us! Service is top notch and the food is always, always amazing! We always start with a bread basket and either artichokes or the meatballs (yummmm) and then get pasta for the mains. The pasta is so good I haven't been able to order pizza...maybe I'll get both next time. When they're busy just come in with a relaxed attitude. It went from a great addition to the Eau Claire dining scene to a mediocre place to get a marginally ok meal with a heavy dose of attitude and poor service. I would also like to mention that if you are going to charge top dollar for entrees, don't ask people to pay for your bread. It's not that great. The cocktail prices are also a little high for what you get and I would also venture to say that the wine list could use some professional curation. Wow, was this a disappointment. So many locals rave about this place, but I found it to be way over priced for the product they deliver. The food is fine. However if the true Foodie in you wants to go out and play, this is not the place to go. It is typical chain restaurant food taken out of the freezer and served on a plate with a little pizzazz to make you feel better about paying so much for it. Mona Lisa's totally missed the boat on taking advantage of great local ingredients. My server said that none of their chicken, beef, lamb, or fish comes from local sources. I love Mona Lisa's, but let me preface my review by saying this: 1. This is one of the only fine dining restaurants Eau Claire. 2. Okay with the disclaimers out of the way, here is why I love Mona 's: The food is good, and different than anything else offered in the area. I would recommend the Tortellini Rockefeller, or pretty much any of the pasta dishes. Delicious. I have tried something different almost every time I've eaten here and never had an issue with inconsistent food. Their lamb is also recommended. The atmosphere is cool. Wine bottle chandeliers, art work, dim lighting. Romantic and very "chill". The staff is professional and attentive. They know the menu and can recommend a dish or wine, if you need it. Celebrated our Wedding Anniversary this evening, very disappointed. Venue is extremely noisy. I had the salmon, it was way overdone and served lukewarm. I hate writing this review as this is a favorite place of mine, but I was terribly disappointed with my experience there last night. While we were there, there were only 2 other tables occupied & 3 servers on. Our server was great to start, but when we got our soup, it was at best, room temperature. Our server did not come to check on us for 20+ min. When she did, she did take our soup back & came back with a barely steaming soup. 2 bites into that, our dinner came. One plate the noodles were ice cold & the other was room temp. Server did take plates back & warmed them up. They obviously weren't busy but the server did not apologize for what happened nor did they do anything for us (not that I was looking for that, but since we didn't get an apology, I thought at the least, our dessert would get taken off our bill). Manager went to every table asking how things were, but neglected to come to ours. I'm extremely disappointed & not sure I will come back. read more

The food here is generally good for Eau Claire, but let's not get carried away here. In the Twin Cities or Chicago or even Madison, Mona's would be pretty average. Many of the menu items are, at this point, a bit dated and they seem unwilling to change much over time. I'm not sure if the menu is actually supposed to be Italian or just Italian-inspired, but it is certainly heavy on fish that has clearly been frozen and then thawed for service. This is a wonderful treasure in downtown Eau Claire! It's a treat for family dinners, date nights, or work-related meals. They constantly change their menu so don't expect to see your favorite dish next month, however, it's a great way to try new things and change up your pallet. Very fresh ingredients (in fact, they grow their own herbs and some vegetables out back) and you always know that you will get a high quality meal. Service has always been great...servers are attentive and friendly, we never had an empty water glass! You used to get served bread complimentary but now it is $3, and worth every penny. I could fill up on an order or two and be completely satisfied...it comes with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and a couple butters (garlic and cilantro). It's a nice atmosphere, I like being able to see outside in the dining room, but the bar area is also very relaxing and yet lively. The prices are as expected, it's not your cheapest avenue in the area but you are getting your money's worth with the excellent service, atmosphere, and quality of food. read more

This is a mixed review for ML. We had a reservation for the past Friday night for 5 of us at 7 PM. It was a busy night (the Venician Ball I believe). When we arrived we had to wait about 20 minutes to actually be sat. This was disappointing given that we had a reservation. That said, once we did get to the table, the service was very nice. The server could speak intelligently about the wine and was even able to get us a taste of one of the wines so we could pick a glass that would work with our meal. The food itself was a little mixed as well. We had the goat cheese fondue appetizer and it was delicious. I highly recommend this item. The entrees had some highs and lows. I ordered the eggplant manicotti and the flavor was generally okay but parts of it were burned which made the dish a little sub-par. Also one of the dishes (chicken) came undercooked. Given that you can get rather sick from undercooked chicken, this was very unappetizing. Otherwise, the pasta dishes were a hit. The drinks (cocktails and wine) were also a hit. All that said, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at Mona Lisa's for dinner. However, it might be a good spot for drinks and appetizers. read more
